BMUC member Peter Lammiman's research has uncovered a true story of the lost Palestinian Film Archive. The Film Archive contained over 100 films, including documentaries, made from before 1948 to the 1980's, and was lost during the Israeli bombardment of Beirut in 1982. It remains lost to this day. Peter shares a research article with presenter Merran McLaren and Rights, Rorts and Rants listeners at this time of more catastrophic loss for the Palestinian people. The paper is by Hend Alawadhi titled On what was, and what remains: Palestinian cinema and the Film Archive. Published in the International Academic Forum (IAFOR) Journal of Media, Communication & Film Vol 1 Issue 1 Summer 2013. The interview was first broadcast on Rights, Rorts and Rants on Radio Blue Mountains 89.1 FM on 7 June 2024 by Blue Mountains Unions & Community presented by Merran McLaren. The podcast was produced by Ann-Maree McEwan. If you'd like to add to the discussion, you can leave an audio comment about our show, which may be added to one of our podcasts. Vi tar for oss The 400 Blows, Playtime, Last Year At Marienbad, My Night At Maud`s og Daguerreotypes. Det blir gøy! Voulez-vous?
Hello. We continue our discussion about sounds in films, by talking about musicals. Also some Gaspar's Breaking News, and other good stuff. We have an instagram and twitter, @filmkrew7 and @krewfilm respectively. Also we have our own youtube channels, Dueri Kwon and gaspar_the_creature. Thank you for the support.
Pop music has had its share of bands with siblings: Gallaghers, Finns, Carpenters, Davies, Wilsons (some with heart and some with surf), Isleys, Warhursts….. Then there's the Mael men!!!!! Welcome to episode 135 of Love That Album podcast. Sparks, (ostensibly, Ron and Russell Mael) are that rare beast that are hugely identifiable despite having changed styles (and record companies) several times. By the time they released album number 11, “Angst In My Pants” in 1982, they'd experimented with rock, prog, euro-disco, pop….and they still had many albums and styles to go. Yet, when you hear a Sparks song, there's that "something" that makes you sure it's them. I am honoured to be joined by music and film writers, Heather Drain and Mike McPadden to discuss “Angst” as well as related peripheral topics. The album is loaded with jerky new-wave era pop. Like its title, much of the album sounds musically nervous and this is reflected in many of the record's songs. Join us as we talk about cigarettes with human traits, Stars on 45, humour in music without being comedic, fragile masculinity, taking the Mickey, anxiety, and (of course) hiding public erections….amongst several other tasteful topics. I also make a production comparison that I hope Heather will forgive me for…….. Having Heather and Mike on the show was a joy. They brought so much insight, and I look forward to further shows with them. The B&E Podcast #108 Why We Love Film Vol.2: Wax On, Wax Off Soundcloud Link: soundcloud.com/thebandepodcast SUMMARY OF THE PODCAST: We return to discuss the finer points of some beloved films by ourselves and audiences worldwide. The pictures in review today are Pixar's wonderful "Inside Out", and John G. Avildsen's "The Karate Kid". We break them down on a technical storytelling level and also take time wandering and exploring the deeper thematic elements and ideas these stories were telling. POINT #1: "INSIDE OUT" -This modern Pixar classic has depth out the wazoo. There are so many messages and ideas being communicated it will blow your mind. With all the complexity to it, it all comes out of a very simple story concept which is key. POINT #2: "THE KARATE KID" -Re-examining a childhood favourite reveals many lessons about humility and the value of struggle in our lives. This is way more than just a story about a bunch of guys who want to punch each other. POINT #3: "WE DON'T KNOW SOMETIMES" -Both of these films illustrate this point. We don't often know why certain things happen the way that they do, but it's often exactly what we need.
