In hour 1 of the show Marcos lets us know that after tonight's NHL draft we are entering the dead period n sports before NFFL training camp starts. We go over the 2nd round of the NBA Draft and undrafted free agents who were signed yesterday with the Heat signing former FAU & Michigan center Vladislav Goldin. The Panthers are reported to having a chance to bring back their 3 top free agents Aaron Ekblad, Brad Marchand & Sam Bennett but can they? How bad is it for the Miami Dolphins when Tyreek Hill is "the voice of reason now"?
Michael F. Florio and LaQuan Jones open the show with the breaking news that Aaron Rodgers has confirmed that 2025 will be his final NFL season. Then, the guys break down the rest of the most fantasy-relevant headlines including the QB competition in Indianapolis and Deebo Samuel’s role in the Commanders' offense. (2:27) After the break, Florio and LQ break down the biggest ‘What Ifs’ at the tight end position. Could Brock Bowers and Trey McBride have enough upside to warrant a second-round pick? What is the leading reason that Florio hasn’t drafted George Kittle in any of his drafts this year? And how will a new offensive coordinator in Detroit impact Sam LaPorta’s fantasy value? (18:58) After the break, the guys examine the tight end ‘dead zone’ and which of the most talented players are also the scariest to draft. They share their favorite late-round tight ends and toss out a unique theory on Travis Kelce’s decline. This episode wraps up a trifecta of Stephen King adaptations, as we review 1983's THE DEAD ZONE, which has quite the pedigree, Cronenberg! Walken! King! The movie also features Martin Sheen as a corrupt, dangerously opportunistic politician who exploits populism to gain authoritarian power and could hold the fate of the world in his hands if he isn't stopped. Chilling stuff, thankfully we don't have anything like that going on. "THE ICE, IS GONNA BREAK!" It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 435! Join our Patreon to support the show! We're joined by writers Griffin Sheridan and Ethan S. Parker to talk about their two upcoming titles hitting shelves this summer. First up is Blink and You'll Miss It from BOOM! Studios, a mind bending story of cursed love and fractured timelines. Issue #1 hits comic shops on August 6, 2025. Then we dig into Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone, where Toho's first ever half human, half kaiju hybrid shakes up the post apocalyptic Deadzone. Issue #1 drops on August 21, 2025.

Marcas Grant and LaQuan Jones open the show detailing their expectations for the Steelers offense, second year WR Keon Coleman and the crowded running back room in Arizona. (2:46) Next, the guys share some advice for drafting the running back position and explain which rounds and players fall into the ‘dead zone.’ Which running back rooms are the scariest to draft from and how will journeymen RB’s impact their early-round counterparts? (19:11) After the break, Marcas and LQ take a look at the ‘dead zone’ for wide receivers. With plenty of value to be found elsewhere, who are their 'stay away' wide receivers at various points of the draft? Alright haomies...this episode we review Oz Perkins' film adaption of the Stephen King short story, THE MONKEY. And of course we get into it about a bunch of other films and non sequiturs. Pre-show which is available exclusively to our Patreon members has even more unedited and off the wall discussions, including our experience seeing a charming band called Chat Pile here in sunny San Diego. Up next we wrap up a little series of King adaptations with THE DEAD ZONE (1983). "Everybody dies. Some of us peacefully and in our sleep, and some of us... horribly. And that's life. Did you know that 27 percent of all English-speaking people will either say 'horseshit' or 'holy shit' before they die? Now, it's funny, because death is the one big thing that'll happen to all of us, and yet we still can't help but be somehow surprised by it." It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 433! Is naming her “Daisy” showing favoritism? How do you remember the “Dogs Playing Poker” painting? 150 - Your calls.
As we already established on our The Dead Zone podcast, 1983 was the Year of the King. That year, Stephen King fans were treated to not one, not two, but THREE adaptations of the author's work. The Dead Zone, Christine, and Cujo. Now common usage to explain a mean dog, Cujo had next to zero meaning to people who picked the book up ready to read King's first all out horror novel in years. Like Drew Barrymore in Firestarter, producers once again used ET as a stepping point, and plucked everyone's favorite mom Dee Wallace to star in a film about her and her son (Who's The Boss's Danny Pintauro) being terrorized by the film's title character. Listen in as Garrett, Matt, and Adam talk about the film many (King included) count as among their favorite adaptations of King's work. Will Adam think the same as, unsurprisingly, this is yet another first time viewing for him? And how did Garrett stumble upon the book, making it the first King novel he ever read? Find out by clicking below! And be sure to come back next week, as Matt finally gets to talk about Ah-nold Schwarzenegger when the co-hosts review the first Richard Bachman adaptation, The Running Man!

The chemical industry is big business in Louisiana. Companies here manufacture plastics, fuels, pesticides, and cleaning products. But one part of the chemical industry that's often overlooked is the fertilizer business. Today, you're going to hear the story of modern fertilizer, and how this powerful concoction of chemicals has radically reshaped how we farm and what we eat. In this episode, we follow the journey of fertilizer from Louisiana to the Midwest, then back down along the Mississippi River to a place it creates in the Gulf. What if Anthony Michael Hall wasn't the face of 1980s teen angst? What if instead of starring in The Breakfast Club, he was flipping omelets at a diner or selling insurance in suburban Chicago? This week on Celebrity Jobber with Jeff Zito, we dive into the alternate reality of one of the most recognizable faces from John Hughes’ iconic coming-of-age films. Anthony Michael Hall — the original “geek” who made awkward cool — joins Jeff to talk about what could have been if Hollywood hadn’t come calling. Hall shot to fame with a string of unforgettable roles in Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, and The Breakfast Club, becoming the go-to actor for every lovable outsider in 80s cinema. But he wasn’t just a teen dream. He broke molds again by becoming the youngest cast member ever on Saturday Night Live at just 17 years old — a bold move that showed his comedic range and fearless ambition. Over the years, Hall has shed the high school persona and proven his versatility in serious roles — from the gritty The Dead Zone to portraying Whitey Ford in 61 and even embodying a cold-hearted villain in The Dark Knight. But despite the evolution, one question remains: What job would Anthony Michael Hall be doing today if he never got that lucky break? Many stars have walked a thin line between fame and flipping burgers. Remember Kanye West’s stint at The Gap? Or Brad Pitt sweating it out in a chicken suit for El Pollo Loco? Hall might’ve ended up a music producer, a writer, or even a motivational speaker — but one thing’s for sure: he never saw himself as just a jobber.
1983 was quite the year for fans of author Stephen King. That was the year they didn't get one, or even two King adaptations for the screen. They got three. These consisted of The Dead Zone, Cujo, and Christine. The other two will get their just due on this podcast down the road. But today, we review The Dead Zone. A film touted as the teaming up of schlock director David Cronenberg (he wouldn't make The Fly until three years later) and horror writer Stephen King. To top it off, Cronenberg tapped recent Oscar winner Christopher Walken to be this story's lead Johnny Smith. Join the Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast as Garrett continues taking listeners, as well as Matt and Adam, along on his journey through all of King's cinematic adaptations with this review of The Dead Zone. Does Cronenberg's toned down style satisfy Matt, a long time fan of the director? Will Adam EVER come into a movie in this series after having actually seeing the film in question BEFORE having to watch and review it for this podcast? Listen below to find out! And come back next week, as the co-hosts once again get into plague territory with a long review of the CBS All Access 2020 adaptation of The Stand.

Why did we do this movie? Well, primarily because it was the only way to make Jorge watch it. Secondly because, to quote King Hans, "coffee cup smash face." Enjoy! King Pick selection for the 1997 Stephen King adaptation The Night Flier up next after this, followed by The Monkey, and yet another Stephen King adaptation after that with The Dead Zone (1983). Then, a very special selection after that before getting into Ryan Coogler's new genre mashup, SINNERS. "I'm sorry... but I don't think you know what a really bad day is! But you'll fucking learn. In this episode, Zach is joined by Melody Jones from Vantage Point MBA to discuss the often-overlooked period between MBA acceptance and the start of classes, sometimes referred to as the 'Dead Zone.' They explore various strategies for academic readiness, networking, and personal development, as well as the logistical considerations for incoming students. The discussion highlights the significance of using this time wisely to set the stage for a successful MBA experience. Melody also touches on the emotional journey of dealing with rejection and the importance of self-reflection. The conversation ends with common mistakes applicants make during the 'Dead Zone' before starting school. Takeaways: Start building momentum as soon as you're accepted. This can include networking, traveling, or working on personal projects. Understand the recruiting timeline for your industry and leverage your new school email address for networking. Reading can enhance self-awareness and leadership skills. On housing: It's important to understand housing application deadlines, and “Accepted Student Weekends” are a great place to find your roommate. MBA budgets often underestimate true costs; Melody suggests increasing yours by 20-40%. Weekend travel and social events can significantly impact your budget (traveling with classmates can enhance your MBA experience). International students should use this time to fully understand banking and health insurance. If you were rejected from your top choice school, use this time to strategize how to strengthen your profile if you want to reapply. Avoid comparing your pre-MBA journey to others; focus on your own path. Overall, business school is a transformational experience beyond just education.
On the Saturday April 19, 2025 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we meet Dr. Janet McMordie. She is a sports medicine physician who blends her medical expertise with a passion for the arts. During the pandemic, she embarked on a simultaneous journey into storytelling, discovering a revitalized connection to her creativity. She shifted from a tunnel-visioned medical career to explore improv, acting, and producing. We talk about medicine, acting, her award-winning Second Act Actors podcast and much more. Then, David Cronenberg. The Village Voice called him "the most audacious and challenging narrative director in the English-speaking world.” He has directed horror films, dramas, psychological thrillers and gangster films, like “Shivers,” “Scanners,” “Videodrome,” “The Fly,” “A History of Violence,” “Eastern Promises” and “The Dead Zone” among many others. Seven of his films were selected to compete for the Palme d'Or, the most recent being “The Shrouds,” which was screened at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. Starring Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger and Guy Pearce, “The Shrouds” explores the future of death. Casserl plays a “an innovative businessman and grieving widower, who builds a novel device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud. This burial tool installed at his own state-of-the-art though controversial cemetery allows him and his clients to watch their specific departed loved one decompose in real time.” It's an unsettling idea for a film, but it is a powerful and ultimately therapeutic look at grief in its many forms.

OK, “Gentle Listeners,” Dr. Walking Dead has shown up for work for us with this week's special double-feature show. In this 49th Edition of DEAD MAN STILL WALKING, your intrepid professor, Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop, graciously took at least one cinematic bullet for the listeners, metaphorically speaking… The two movies that Dr. Bishop examines during this episode include the 1970s odd couple of double features, I Drink Your Blood (1971) and I Eat Your Skin (1971) — the latter, a G-rated, black-and-white movie that was actually produced in 1964. Dr. Bishop brings his usual astute analysis to these proceedings, informing us of actual onscreen murder of an animal, and therefore, which instance(s) of blood in the film is real blood. And speaking of blood, we learn about meat pies being injected with infected, rabid dog blood, thereby constituting a very early example of “the infected zombie” narrative. And Kyle even goes so far as to tell us about a Horror movie where the evil characters “treat people poorly.” And that's only his notes on the first film! Hey Zombie fans! Here in the 48th Edition of DEAD MAN STILL WALKING, your intrepid professor, Dr. Walking Dead Kyle Bishop, reviews a new, zombie Horror whose title is often inexplicably styled as “MadS” (2024) around the internet, so we will perpetuate the arbitrary capitalization, as well — just like … zombies. “MadS” is written and directed by David Moreau that is ambitiously and meticulously depicted in Real Time because it was shot all in one take! Impressive! Dr. Bishop says it's “shot like an 89-minute play.” Join us to hear what he thinks! Note: To view ALL of Dr. Bishop's Dead Man Still Walking solocast episodes can USE THIS LINK. CW: This episode discusses cinematic sexual violence.Violet Lucca, the author of the new monograph David Cronenberg: Clinical Trials, returns to the podcast from Brooklyn to discuss the book and his controversial 1991 adaptation of William S. Burroughs' Naked Lunch starring Peter Weller and Judy Davis, filmed in Toronto standing in for 50s New York and Morocco, recreated by Cronenberg's longtime production designer Carol Spier in a former General Electric plant in Toronto's west end.We discuss Cronenberg's lifelong connection to Canadian cinema and the city of Toronto with digressions on Videodrome, The Dead Zone and The Fly before grappling with Naked Lunch, which is less of a literal film version of the novel and more a meditation about the life of Burroughs and what it is to be an artist in general. We also discuss Cronenberg's cinematic explorations of paranoia and conspiracy theories, and his relationship to the queer artistic community in Canada reflected across his career, even if he's always identified himself as a heterosexual man.And we (briefly) contrast Naked Lunch with the new Burroughs cinematic adaptation, Luca Guadagnino's Queer starring Daniel Craig, which we feel misses the boat on how to adapt Burroughs for the screen.Over 30% of all Junk Filter episodes are only available to patrons of the podcast.
