Confira no Morning Show desta quinta-feira (25): O lobista Antônio Carlos Camilo Antunes, conhecido como Careca do INSS, tumultuou a CPI ao se recusar a responder perguntas do relator, deputado Alfredo Gaspar (União-AL). Gaspar o acusou de ser “o autor do maior roubo dos aposentados e pensionistas da história do Brasil”, o que gerou reação da defesa e suspensão temporária da sessão. A Comissão de Constituição e Justiça (CCJ) do Senado rejeitou por unanimidade a PEC da Blindagem, que buscava ampliar a proteção de parlamentares contra investigações e processos. Com a decisão, a proposta foi oficialmente barrada no Congresso. O Ministério Público de São Paulo, em parceria com a Receita Federal, Polícia Militar e Secretaria da Fazenda, deflagrou a Operação Spare contra um esquema de jogos de azar e combustíveis adulterados. It seems there are news stories every week about the accelerating pace of innovation in gene therapy, but only about 50 therapies have been approved so far by the US Food and Drug Administration. Our guest today, Dr. Bobby Gaspar, leads a UK-based biotech company, Orchard Therapeutics, that developed one of those treatments using gene-modified stem cells in your blood that self-renew, so a single administration can give you potentially a lifelong effect. “Our approach is about correcting those hematopoietic stem cells and allowing them to give rise to cells that can then correct the disease,” explains Dr. Gaspar.  The therapy in focus is lenmeldy, the first approved treatment for metachromatic leukodystrophy, also known as MLD, a devastating inherited disorder that affects roughly 600 children worldwide. But Dr. Gaspar is optimistic that learnings from Orchard's work on MLD could be useful in treating much more common disorders including frontotemporal dementia, Crohn's disease and others. Tendons adapt to training, but the mechanisms are complex. The Berlin Method emphasizes high loads for tendon adaptation. Muscle strength is important, but technique and application matter more. Calf muscles are notoriously difficult to grow in strength. Tendons require time to recover and adapt to training loads. Creep studies on tendons are often conducted in mechanical settings, not in vivo. Tendon strain measurements can vary significantly based on methodology. Individual differences in tendon response necessitate personalized training. Females may experience different tendon adaptations compared to males.
