Está tudo à beira de um ataque de nervos. Adolescentes, pais, professores. Já repararam que quase ninguém anda feliz com a vida que leva? Pode ser uma mera perceção minha. Mas há já múltiplos estudos que evidenciam sintomas de que o nosso bem-estar está abalado. E ninguém parece saber a receita para reequilibrar isto. Decidi assim ir em busca de respostas, com Tania Gaspar, psicóloga clínica, autora e coordenadora de múltiplos estudos sobre a saúde mental dos jovens ou o bem-estar dos pais, enquanto trabalhadores. E os resultados não são nada animadores. A saúde mental dos jovens em Portugal está sob uma pressão silenciosa, mas cada vez mais evidente. Apesar de viverem numa era de oportunidades aparentemente infinitas, muitos jovens sentem-se perdidos, sobrecarregados e emocionalmente fragilizados. Na nossa conversa Um dos temas que mais destacou foi o sistema educativo e a sua incapacidade de apoiar os alunos mais vulneráveis. Para Tânia Gaspar, a escola tornou-se um ambiente que, em vez de promover crescimento, muitas vezes contribui para o aumento da ansiedade e do insucesso. Este ciclo de exclusão começa cedo e afeta, sobretudo, os jovens de contextos socioeconómicos mais frágeis. Sem suporte emocional e estratégias de recuperação, muitos acabam por abandonar os estudos. A pandemia veio agravar estas dificuldades. As crianças que estavam no 1.º e 2.º anos durante o confinamento sofreram um corte drástico no desenvolvimento das suas competências básicas. Um estudo piloto conduzido pela equipa de Tânia Gaspar em escolas públicas demonstrou que, com intervenção personalizada e apoio emocional, grande parte dos alunos conseguiu recuperar a literacia e as competências sociais. Será que estamos a perceber os sinais? Os jovens estão emocionalmente mais frágeis. Tânia Gaspar descreve um cenário preocupante, onde as expressões emocionais muitas vezes se manifestam através de comportamentos disruptivos — agitação, agressividade ou, no extremo oposto, retração silenciosa. Estes comportamentos são frequentemente interpretados como problemas de disciplina, mas podem esconder questões emocionais profundas. O ambiente escolar, em vez de integrar essas crianças, tende a isolá-las, criando um ciclo de exclusão e retração emocional. E depois há a família. A família é um dos pilares fundamentais para o equilíbrio emocional dos jovens. No entanto, Tânia Gaspar reconhece que nem sempre existe um acompanhamento adequado. Cito uma frase que podem ouvir a seguir: “Os pais estão exaustos, sobrecarregados com o trabalho, e isso reflete-se na capacidade de ouvir e apoiar os filhos” Para a psicóloga, é urgente investir em literacia parental, para os pais compreenderem melhor os ciclos de desenvolvimento e os desafios específicos de cada idade. Ser jovem acabadinho de entrar no mercado é uma carga de trabalhos. A transição para o mercado de trabalho tem sido marcada por um misto de incerteza económica e falta de propósito. Muitos jovens sentem-se pressionados a encontrar um rumo rápido, sem espaço para experimentar ou errar. Vale aprender um conceito que se está a tornar comum entre os jovens trabalhadores: o "boreout" — o tédio crónico associado à falta de estímulo no trabalho. Além disso, muitos jovens rejeitam o modelo tradicional de carreira. Para esta geração, a ideia de escola-universidade-emprego desaparece, dando lugar a trajetórias mais fluidas, onde o propósito e o equilíbrio emocional ganham destaque. Obviamente é essencial preparar melhor os jovens para os desafios da vida adulta, promovendo resiliência emocional e literacia em saúde mental. Tania Gaspar é psicóloga e mãe de adolescentes. Mañana, 19 de abril, se conmemora el bicentenario del primer hito de los hechos históricos de 1825: el Desembarco de los 33 Orientales. 1825 marcó un punto de inflexión y sentó las bases para el nacimiento de un país nuevo. Podríamos armar una lista con las fechas clave que cumplen 200 años en este 2025: el abrazo del Monzón entre Juan Antonio Lavalleja y Fructuoso Rivera; las grandes batallas en Rincón y Sarandí; y, por supuesto, la Declaratoria de Independencia, en agosto. Pero todo ese camino comenzó aquel 19 de abril, cuando 33 hombres -que eran más que 33 y no eran todos orientales- arribaron a la playa de la Agraciada, en lo que hoy es el departamento de Soriano. Habían partido desde Buenos Aires y llevaban varios días surcando las aguas donde se mezclan los ríos de La Plata, Uruguay y Paraná, esquivando entre las islas a la vigilancia del Imperio del Brasil. Con el liderazgo de Lavalleja y Manuel Oribe, más Rivera luego, esos hombres juntarían un ejército y volverían a encender en el pueblo oriental la mecha de la libertad, que se había apagado con la derrota artiguista. El imperio opresor era otro: el brasileño en lugar del español; el barón Carlos Federico Lecor en lugar del gobernador Gaspar de Vigodet. Pero la opresión era la misma. Aquel 19 de abril de 1925 se iniciaba la historia de un pequeño David contra un Goliat imperial. The story of the Three Wise Men has been reinterpreted since it was first written down. The gift-bearing visitors to the newborn Jesus were initially described as “Magi”, meaning Persians of a priestly caste, but by the 4th century they were given the individual names of Gaspar, Melchior and Balthazar. And in Medieval Europe they were described not as Three Wise Men, but as Three Kings. Yet there's more to the evolution of the Magi than Western ideas, in Syriac Christian traditions there are up to 24 Magi, and in the Ethiopian church they are named Hor, Karsudan, and Basanater. So how have these ideas developed over time?
