Daniel 3 isn't just a familiar story, it's about pressure to conform and the cost of staying faithful. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego face a culture that demands compromise, and their response is simple: God can deliver, but even if He doesn't, they won't bow.Brody and JB talk about what that kind of faith looks like today, how cultural pressure shows up, and why God's presence matters more than an easy way out. Joseph. Daniel. Noah. Moses. Even Jesus himself! Many of us learned of these heroes of the faith as cute, cartoonish characters—sort of a biblical Sesame Street. But few of us really learned the broader arc of the Bible's stories, and without this, we will struggle to apply these mysterious ancient texts to our modern lives. Speaker: Pastor Scott Austin Part of the series “Sunday School 2.0”
In this episode, Brody unpacks the importance of remembering God's faithfulness by looking at the story in 1 Samuel—when he raised a stone of remembrance after God delivered Israel. That moment, and the phrase “Here I raise my Ebenezer,” challenges us to mark the moments God shows up in our lives. Brody shares personal examples, including how Snowbird's North Campus became a reminder of God's provision, and reads a heartfelt letter to the SWO summer staff as they wrap up a powerful summer of ministry. He also shares encouraging feedback from readers of his new book No Sanity Required. In this episode, Brody and JB unpack the story of Ruth and Boaz—not just a romance, but a stunning display of God's redemptive work through unlikely people and difficult circumstances. Set in a time of chaos, Ruth's bold loyalty and outsider status become the backdrop for a greater story of grace, restoration, and purpose. This powerful narrative points forward to Christ and offers deep hope for anyone navigating seasons of uncertainty.Rahab: Jesus and His Crazy GrandmasTamar: Jesus and His Crazy GrandmasRuth: Jesus and His Crazy GrandmasSend us a textPlease leave a review on Apple or Spotify to help improve No Sanity Required and help others grow in their faith. A powerless and desperate widow reaches out to connect with the prophet Elisha. Together, they offer what they have and do what they can, and with God's blessing there is a miraculous outcome. Their story provides a compelling lesson as to how God participates with His people to provide justice and restore dignity to the most marginalized.Discussion QuestionsSunday, December March 2nd, 2025Consider/share some ways you might connect and become an ally to those in need. What are some things or reasons that may hold you back ?If you were asked “what do you have to offer?” how might you answer? Consider the resources, areas of influence, skills, talents, personal attributes that may be uniquely yours. (Don't be modest!) Open Relational Theology posits that we have real choice with real consequences and the outcomes are “open” or undetermined to both us and God. A more traditional view would say that “God is in control” and will bring about the desired outcome. Discuss the implications of both views:Open view: outcome is at risk. What we observe may not be what God desires, but he gives true free choice to people and experiences the outcomes with us.Traditional view: God is in full control of everything; therefore what we observe must reflect what God desires. Everything happens for a purpose.Discuss the following quote from The Divine Conspiracy (Dallas Willard) may apply to the modern context and current political climate: “Our union with Jesus allows us now to be a part of His conspiracy to undermine the structures of evil, which continue to dominate human history, with the forces of truth, freedom and love. We can quietly and relentlessly align with these forces because we know what is cosmically afoot. To “overcome evil with good” is not just something for an individual effort here and there , it will actually come to pass on this earth”.

As Lutherans young and old head back to Sunday school this fall, Rachel wants to know: How much do you really know about the history of Sunday school? It's a Trivia Challenge for the back-to-school season, full of eye-opening factoids about the roots of Christian education in the church. Where and when did the first “Sunday school” begin? What did pastors originally think about this ecclesial innovation? Why were Lutherans late — but enthusiastic — adopters of Sunday school for young people? And what on earth is a FLANNELGRAPH? Preaching: Mike RothIf you grew up in the church, chances are that you attended Vacation Bible School (VBS) during summer break. For one warm week you sat on green grass, drank apple juice, and ate graham crackers while an adult used the Flannelgraph to teach you stories from the Bible. “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1In this episode, Brody walks through Mark 9 and discusses the reality of sin and hell. For those of us who are in Christ, we don't have to fear hell. But, the reality of hell should motivate us to share the Gospel with unbelievers. Brody walks through 3 key things Jesus teaches us about hell in the Bible. Hell is a place of punishment and destruction, and it separates people from God.Because of Christ and what he's done for us on the cross, we are free from the punishment our sin has earned. Let's fix our eyes on Christ and share this good news with those around us. The day-to-day Christian life is not a mountaintop experience. Life is messy and circumstances can cause us to doubt God. When doubt attacks our faith we need to keep pressing into the Lord.In this episode Brody walks through the transfiguration of Jesus, the chaos that meets them when they get off the mountain, and how we should fight doubt. Listen as we consider 5 facets of God's revelation that confirm Jesus' glory. Let's submit our doubt to the Lord and let it grow us closer to Christ.Resources:Respond Women's RetreatLuke 9Mark 92 Peter 1:16-18Please leave a review on Apple or Spotify to help improve No Sanity Required and help others grow in their faith. Sin is deceptive and deceitful. It can cause us to turn away from the Lord.In this episode, Brody continues his conversation about Demas and walks through 7 things we must guard against to remain faithful to the end. How do we live faithfully for the Lord and prevent drifting away?In this episode, Brody discusses the life of Demas, why people tend to drift away, and how we can stay faithful. Demas was once a co-laborer with Paul on the mission field, but abandoned Paul when he was needed most. Scripture tells us Demas thought the world offered him something greater than what the Lord provided. People are often influenced by the latest movement or ideology, but these movements don't last. However, the Gospel is unchanging. It is eternal and outlasts cultural movements. Let's hold fast to Jesus and pursue him faithfully.View the SWO StaffJude 2Colossians 4:142 Timothy 4:91 John 2:15Please leave a review on Apple or Spotify to help improve No Sanity Required and help others grow in their faith. Have you ever lived in shame and guilt over a mistake you made?Scripture tells us that those who are in Christ are no longer condemned but set free from our sins. In this episode, Brody walks through 8 truths we can learn from Isaac and Rebecca's mistake-filled lives. God chose to preserve and protect this family regardless of Isaac's mistakes. You are going to make mistakes throughout your life. But the trajectory of our lives should be one of faithfulness and obedience to the Lord. God is greater than our ability to mess things up. The testing of your faith will produce steadfastness. In this episode, Brody shares some thoughts from Genesis 22 and describes how Abraham responded to the Lord in obedience. Let's look at this story and have a better understanding of what it is for the Lord to take us through trials to grow our faith. Abraham believed the Lord was going to deliver Isaac. Who is the Devil? Does he have power over us? In this episode, Brody walks through 1 Peter 5 and discusses misconceptions we tend to have about the Devil. The Devil is an enemy to the believer, but he does have limitations. Just because you get important people to approve what you're doing doesn't make it right. We see this in 1 Kings 1:1-2, where Adonijah sets himself up as king and has support from those around him. He does not seek the Lord in this decision but instead exalts himself to this position. In this episode, Brody walks through this story of Solomon becoming king. Solomon becomes king because of the plan and purpose of the Lord. God's people will always work together to advance his plans and his kingdom. Let's live with conviction and only worry about what the Lord says. 1:1-2 KingsProverbs 16:18Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters exists to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the exposition of Scripture and personal relationships in order to equip the Church to impact this generation.Learn more about our student and adult conferences at https://www.swoutfitters.com/Please leave a review on Apple or Spotify to help improve No Sanity Required and help others grow in their faith. The beauty of the Gospel exists even in the midst of broken situations. Today, Brody walks through Genesis 34, where Dinah, the daughter of Jacob is defiled and her brothers have to rescue her. This story has no happy ending except for the hope the Gospel offers. There is no redeeming quality in humanity. We need a rescuer. Jesus is that rescuer. Jesus entered into the darkness of humanity to save people who can't save themselves. Listen to be reminded of God's plan of redemption for us. Abigail is an example of Christ. In 1 Samuel 25, she confronted David and 400 of his men to spare the lives of the men in her town. In this episode, Brody walks through what we can learn from her act of bravery and how she points us to the Lord. Abigail approaches David in humility and boldness as she asks to let all the guilt of her husband fall onto her. She displays deep faith that mirrors Christ to us.What can we learn from her boldness? We need to be a people of faith and action. Abigail's faith was not passive. Everything she did was aggressive but driven by humility. She was faithful right where she was serving. She shows us what humility looks like. Let's learn from her example. Let's be people of action, bravery, and humility. Resources:1 Samuel 252 Samuel 7P.S. A lot of things that happen in David's life are consequences from his actions. While God forgives us from our sins, there may be consequences that linger. Don't live in shame and guilt over these things, but walk in freedom.Let's think before we speak and post. Ask yourself, “How do I become an asset in advancing the kingdom, guarding my holiness, and pursuing the Lord?” We can look at David's life and learn principles that push us towards repentance and dependency on the Lord. There were patterns in David's life that didn't get dealt with and ultimately led him to turn away from the Lord. He needed to address those patterns that lead to sinful and destructive behavior. The problem is, we get too comfortable. We need to surround ourselves with men and women who love us enough to hold us accountable and speak truth in our lives. Let's be good friends, faithful followers to the Lord, and make much of Jesus with our lives. Resources:Summer Staff ApplicationLittle Pilgrim's Progress by Helen TaylorP.S.
