Composers Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson always felt that Cobra Kai , now on Netflix, would make a great game, and they got their wish when developer Flux tapped them to create a soundrack for a game inspired by the series. Cobra Kai is set 34 years after the beloved film The Karate Kid, complete with many of the original actors. For the soundtrack for Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues , Leo and Zach referenced some of the games they loved growing up in the '80's and '90's to give the music a fun, period sound. Leo and Zach say working on the soundtrack was a fun project because it gave them a chance to describe in music some of the places they know very well, like Encino and Reseda. In fact, Zach says one of the settings is a street right near where he grew up! For Zach and Leo it was a thrill to work on their first game soundtrack, and especially fun to finally write music for a boss battle after all those years playing games. They're looking forward to writing another game
It's Part 2 of ChooseFI's end-of-year wins where we hear directly from our community members. During this live event, listeners shared the actions they've taken during the past year that have helped them to spend less, earn more, and enjoy the journey. This year, the year-end-win episode took place in a three hour live Facebook and YouTube event featuring around 20 members of the community. After listening to the podcast for months or years, how did individual members of the community take in information and take action leading to success in a very challenging year? Success isn't just the nuts and bolts of money. Ultimately, it's a life optimization strategy. In response to Brad sharing in an earlier episode that he was joining Alan Donegan in his burpee challenge, Christine wrote in to share that she was inspired to step up her run by throwing in burpees along the way even if she couldn't complete the pushups. Being perfect isn't realistic. Challenge and struggling are important, as is trying to get to the point of mastery. You grow during times of discomfort and failure. The first end-of-year win comes from Eric. Introduced to FI by his best friends over a year ago, Eric binged listened to the podcast. In January of 2020, Eric and his wife re-scripted their financial life. Eric is an architect and started creating YouTube content as a side hustle on his channel 30X40 Design Workshop. Re-scripting their financial life started with paying down all their debt, including mortgage, with the cash they had saved that wasn't doing very much for them and built a six-month emergency fund. Having that headspace allowed them to take more risks during the year. They don't have a specific monthly budget, but as long as his wife keeps her job as a research scientist, they are good. Everything he makes is going toward FI, including a post-tax brokerage account and 529s. The FI literacy they've picked up from the podcast has shown they are a lot closer to their FI number than they thought. The friend who introduced Eric to FI was Jason, who also had end-of-year wins to share. Jason figured out early in his career that he didn't want to persist working for other people until retirement age. Five years ago, Jason learned about the FIRE community and began to buckle down, working toward a strategy. Jason says they've always been good savers and put salary increases and bonuses toward retirement savings. In 2019, he realized 2020 was the year they could hit FI. He actually achieved it in May 2019 and stayed at his job until June 2020 because he had some things he wanted to see through. In June, they moved from a high-cost-of-living area to a more moderately priced location. He began blogging on his website, The Next Phase is Now, to help work through the tornado of feelings he was experiencing. Before retiring, they lived on their FI budget for a full year to give them confidence. Currently, Jason is drawing from his cash reserves, which he moves from a Fidelity account to his checking account once a month like a paycheck. Next up is a question from Rebecca, who wants to know how to calculate her FI number when both she and her husband have pensions. Jonathan says the difference between your monthly expenses and your pension is what your FI number will need to cover. The book by Grumpus Maximus, The Golden Albatross: How to Determine if Your Pension is Worth It, as well as episodes 057 and 227 with Grumpus are good to check out if you have a pension. The next listener sharing her wins is Sara. Sara sold her care and began investing in VTSAX this year after graduating in 2019. As a new investor, the market fluctuations this year were intimidating, but after reading The Simple Path to Wealth, she felt like she was getting in during a low period. Sara's only debt is $78,000 in student loans which she hopes to pay off by age 30. During this 0% interest period, she has deferred making payments and has saved $20,000. It's a safety net that she's trying to decide what to do with. Her employer offers a .5% match up to 6% in her retirement plan. Sara has increased her contribution since deferring her student loan payments and is looking to roll over an account from a previous employer. Sara is trying to keep her expenses low and estimates her savings rate to be 30-40%. Listener Jake has made a lot of big moves this year, which means undoing all of the American dream ideas that had been drilled into him, like the fancy apartment, car, and clothes. They weren't making him happy. After listening to the podcast, Jake took action and moved into a place that cost him half as much, traded in the fancy car for a used Prius he paid cash for, and slashed his spending. Another big move Jake made was to refinance his private student loans with a 10% interest rate to 4%. He's putting every extra dollar toward student loans and will 100% debt-free by the end of January. The Talent Stacker podcast has lit a fire under him and Jake's goal for the end of 2021 is to hit $100,000 net worth. Being able to work remotely, Jake has moved back in with his parents and reduced his rent to zero. Bradsays he credits living with his parents after graduation as the springboard for everything that came after. Zach says it's been a great year figuring out his why of FI and taking actionable steps. He thinks whether we realize it or not, we're all chasing time and health. He wants to travel the world in business class and loves his 2006 Hyundai Sonata. For Zach, finding happiness wherever he is at is the FI goal. It's all about what you personally value. His investments are set up to meet his passive income goal. At the beginning of COVID, Zach started two businesses. While a pandemic doesn't sound like a good time to start a business, Zach says any time of strife and change creates opportunity. Next up is Kosta who says despite the tough year, his path to FI has accelerated and COVID hammered home the need to do it. Three years ago, Kosta and his fiance thought they had made it with their lucrative careers. But when he learned about FI in 2018, he was hooked. They worked together as a team to pay down student loan debt and put a 20% downpayment on the house they bought at the beginning of this year. Health issues that may take both of them out of work motivated them to ensure their later years were easier. And a by-product of FI, Kosta has lost 84 funds this year! Zach Braff and Marc both dealt with a lot of loss in the past year. For Zach, keeping it all in perspective is helping him get through the daily stress of pandemic life, as he fires up his creative impulses. Zach and Marc talk about the struggle of saying goodbye to beloved pets, the trauma of losing someone close to you, and managing childhood anxiety later in life. On today's episode, we have Zach Benson. Zach is the founder of Assistagram, an Instagram authority marketing agency, where he helps and creates Instagram Influencers on a daily basis. Zach is absolutely brilliant and has a great story that I am excited to share with you. Zach Benson is a TEDx speaker, social-media trainer for international brands like The Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, and ViceRoy, and past participant on "So You Think You Can Dance." Benson doesn't just manage his own Instagram network of millions; he's also the founder of Assistagram, where he's guiding other influencers and Fortune 500 companies into social media success. Lastly, he is the founder of a 6 Figure Dancer Academy, where he teaches other dancers the exact step-by-step system that he used to create a profitable 6-figure dancing business while traveling the world. We are going to learn about some of his philosophies to connect with influencers, grow your influence through Instagram in general. We are going to learn about his upcoming book, Reach, and his somewhat unique approach to writing this book in a reverse engineering success kind of way. In Today's Episode: For Zach life is all about the people and the relationships. It is about your connections and network. With a bigger network, you have more influence and power to use for good that can help people. Make it all about the other person. When you are on a call with them, listen to them and make them feel understood. Make them really feel like you care about their mission and show them different ways you can help support them and bring them closer to their goals and dreams. Storytelling is the most powerful and effective way to get your message across and to sell people on your services. And so much more!
Zach Fragapane is the founder and head of product at Jolly, an online network for professional workers and freelancers. His 13-year freelancing career has been both a side hustle and his main career, so he has wide-ranging experiences we can learn from. For Zach (who has worked as a freelancer for most of his life) it was easy to pinpoint where help and support were needed in the freelance industry, which is how Jolly was born. Though now it's much more than a freelance management system, Zach was able to refine and update his product based on his many years of first-hand freelance experience. This year, the freelance industry, like most industries, took a hard hit from the Covid-19 pandemic. But when you get knocked down, the only thing to do is get back up — so we talk about the rise of freelancers in this era of technology and what you can do to get back on track. “If your customer is able to see your price and the results you're going to drive and just a little about the deliverables, which is usually upfront anyway, then maybe more time can be spent actually focusing on driving those results.” ~ @ZachFragapane Main Takeaways The most valuable feedback you can get is the feedback that comes from the actual users of your product or service. Even though there are a lot of people who lost their jobs and livelihood during the pandemic, there are more companies that are starting to consider hiring freelance workers because of the current situation. Make use of the time you have now to create something of value that you can offer either for free or for a fee. The biggest struggle for freelancers right now is getting their first clients and/or retainers during these times of struggle. The key is to still go above and beyond and get every last bit out of each project. Episode Highlights: Zach shares the story of the moment Reese Witherspoon reposted Live A Great Story while he was at his grandfather’s funeral, inspiring him to keep going. Zach’s guiding principles are to think about whether his relatives who have passed away would be proud of what he’s doing and whether his future children and grandchildren would be proud of him. For Zach, the pursuit of being an entrepreneur is about the continuing journey of overcoming adversity. Sachit asks Zach when he wanted to quit the most, but Zach doesn’t remember a specific moment anymore. He just remembers the overall challenges. Right now, Zach is facing serious struggles with cash flow for the company but he knows he’s going to overcome the challenge and not quit. Zach believes in finding what fuels you to keep going. For him, it’s sweating a little bit each day from running or other exercise. Even Elon Musk’s company came close to running out of money. Sachit asks Zach about his evolution as a founder, and Zach says he sees himself partly as a creative and partly as an entrepreneur. Zach found the inspiration for his brand after backpacking through Europe for 7 months, and put up some spray painted messages around Austin without knowing what it would become. Zach describes how he balances envisioning what his company could be with allowing it to evolve organically, and says as you and your business change, it’s important to regularly check in with yourself about your values and impact. Recently, Zach realized that the values of Live a Great Story and their messaging have been disconnected for a while, so he’s reconnecting with his core audience and top customers to realign. Doing a deep dive into his customers allowed Zach to see that there are common feelings and experiences throughout his broad customer base, who at first glance seem entirely different from one another. Zach shares a story about learning to ask for help. He suggests that you come up with the ten people you would reach out to for help and advice. Zach talks about how and why he started the Live a Great Story conference. It was designed to encourage genuine connection with other people. His advice for conferences is to keep it simple, because it always requires far more planning than you expect. Seeing people with Live a Great Story tattoos is surreal to Zach. He feels like he’s just a small part of a wave. Zach has seen people post stickers or the brand in some crazy and impressive places, including a coffee shop in a small town in Nicaragua. To see people adapt his idea and make it their own is one of the most thrilling parts of this for Zach. The next challenge for Live a Great Story is to find ways to go deeper with the community and bring these people together to make an even bigger impact. To get in touch with Zach, send him a video DM on Instagram. Anyone who does this and says they heard it on this podcast with Sachit will get a free sticker! 3 Key Takeaways: Entrepreneurship is more about the ongoing journey than reaching an endpoint. Check in with yourself and your business to make sure your values align with your practices. Building a community requires a lot of deep listening. Tweetable Quotes: “I think it’s about figuring out what you need to stay the course. What are those elements that fuel you?” – Zach “Once you leave Austin, Texas you realize there are a bunch of people that don’t talk like you, don’t look like you, don’t believe what you believe, and having really cool conversations like that really inspired me.” – Zach “We’re not aiming for a star when we’re launching. It’s more like a constellation or a cluster of stars. It’s pretty far away, so we don’t know what it’ll look like until we get there, but heading in that direction is taking us the right way.” – Zach “In the deepest moments of I don’t know what I’m doing, I don’t know why I’m doing this, I’d hop on Instagram & there would be someone’s photo with this insane emotional response caption about how it had such an impact on them & that would boost me back up & keep me going.” – Zach Resources Mentioned: https://liveagreatstory.com/ Zach: Instagram, Twitter Actions: Subscribe to the show on Apple Podcasts or on your favorite podcast app and let us know what you think by leaving a rating and a review. In this episode I was able to have a discussion with a friend that is working through some things I have gone through before. I met Zach Richman when I trained him at work. Since then he has become a great friend and part of what makes work fun and interesting. He went to a Christian school and now works at a Christian organization and seems like your average Christian young adult. But Zach is working through a struggle. He is striving to find his faith and to stay strong through the temptations of this life. He reached out to me to discuss and to try to find a way to get a solid footing in his spiritual life. I fear that Zach is more like the average young adult Christian than we realize. I fear that a lot of people out there are going through the exact same thing but are not being vocal about it. I am grateful Zach had the courage to come on this podcast and share his story so that he can better work through it and that someone else may better realize what they are going through. If you would like to reach out to Zach you can do so through my website chazmcpeake.com on the contact page. Please put "For Zach" in the subject line or at the top of your message and I will send it along. You can also read my blog, see other projects, or contact me if you visit chazmcpeake.com. You can hear more of this podcast on that site, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or pretty much anywhere else podcasts can be found. Today on the podcast, Sean speaks with Zach Matchett about the idea of changing up your normal. The idea of changing your normal routine in your ministry can bring about so many positive results. It is the idea of what can be done during our normal service that isn’t normal. For Zach it is his different special events like the “Pre-winter Party” or “Breksgiving” which are done during there normal service time. These are themed events that allow the preteens to invite their friends to a light-hearted fun event. These events are a great opportunity for your ministry to build community by simply changing up the routine a little. What is amazing is the amount of participation that you will get with these types of events, the preteens really enjoy having a chance to be something different. It is also a great opportunity to develop character. So how could you change up your routine slightly and add in a themed event to allow your preteens a chance to invite friends? Dave Lukas, The Misfit Entrepreneur_Breakthrough Entrepreneurship
This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Zach Benson. Zach is the CEO and founder of one of my favorite services and sponsor of the show, Assistagram. Assitagram creates campaigns that helps people get their message out to millions on a daily basis. I have to say, as a client, their teams are amazing. Zach is also a TEDX speaker and world renowned, award winning dancer. The thing that I absolutely love most about Zach is how he has designed his life. Zach travels the world living where he wants when he wants helping people grow their business and message with Assistagram and also teaching dance workshops. In today’s episode, I not only want him to share his best Instagram success hacks, but also teach how you can design the life you deserve. www.assistagram.com Benson.zach@gmail.com www.MisfitEtnrepreneur.com/Assitagram It all started with dance. In high school, Zach got a DVD on breakdancing and started practicing. He began to win competitions and made it on So You Think it Can Dance. Now, he teaches dance clinics all over the world. How did you design your life and make it possible? He saw other dancers that tried out multiple times for things So You Think You Can Dance and over time make it. He took a lesson to never give up from them. He also dreamed big as a kid and put together what he wanted his life to be. A producer for SYTYCD gave him the idea and advice on how to go teach dance clinics around the world and leverage his stardom that way. What did you have to do to make it happen? Zach is more impulsive He takes action on things he wants to do and doesn’t think too much about it But he also seeks and finds people who have been there and done that- and listened to them, taking their best advice and putting it to use. In the beginning, he got a lot of no’s before getting to his first yes on teaching a dance clinic. He changed his business model to start offering really cheap rates to get in the door at places. From there, he used his experience and relationships to build great relationships that could reference him and grew from there – upping his rates as he got more consistent. Playing the long game is important. You mentioned being more impulsive in your younger years. Are you still that way today? Things have changed. He still embraces taking initiative. “I’d rather burnout than restout and take advantage of opportunities when they come up…” What advice would give people to go out and create the life they deserve? You need to know what you need to be happy. Zach volunteered to live on $2 a day for food to help a cause and learn what really matters to be happy. Whatever it is that fulfills you – you need to know. If it is a lot of money, great. If not, ok too. But know what it is. Self-educate and keep going Play the long game and outlast People give up to close to their success What have you learned about life and success by traveling abroad and working throughout the world? That people matter most and to put them first. For Zach, traveling helps him grow. He gets to expand his network, see how others live, learn other cultures, and network with other entrepreneurs. Life is all about people and relationships. All it takes is a simple question or compliment to create a conversation that turn into a huge opportunity. Be curious How do you travel and get to stay at 5-Star hotel for free? Through the power of Instagram 5 years ago, he bought an Instagram account with 400,000 followers From there, he started to grow it and build up the empire Businesses don’t know that much about social media marketing on platforms such as Instagram. Instead of negotiating a free to stay by just posting about it to his following, Zach offers to teach them how to improve their Instagram accounts and their footprint. What is the process of how you do it? Do you need to have a massive following? Zach has a step by step process in his Tribe Influencer academy You don’t need a big personal brand You don’t need a huge network Think of something you have of value that a hotel can use such as a specific skill or process Use that as an offering and do a barter with them Make sure to have a clear offer of what you will do and what it will do for them You can do this with all hotels. It starts with an email to the reservations department Then follow up with phone call and ask to speak to the sales and marketing director for the property Then pitch them Usually the training last about 1 hour At the 23 min mark, Zach talks about why Instagram is such an important medium to use for business in today’s age. The attention shift from Facebook to Instagram is happening faster than ever. It is the fastest growing and most engaging platform in the world with almost 1 billion users Twitter and Snapchat are dead Instagram gives you more organic reach than Facebook Now is the time to get on the platform. Top 3 things people need to do to succeed on Instagram? If you are going to start – build a page/account around passions, something you are really into and interested in. By looking at what other accounts do in your focus, you can learn what they do to be successful and even reach out to them. You can also buy an Instagram account, a niche page. You can growth hack your business with it. What is the best way to grow a following on Instagram? Utilizing engagement groups is one of the best ways Engagement groups should be larger and have high quality Doing manual follow and unfollow is another, but can be damaging if you don’t know what you are doing. Post 4-6 times per day How do you get people to go from following and engaging to buying? First, you need to become a legit brand which is a minimum of 10k followers o This gives you credibility In looking legit, it will attract more followers and engagement This helps you rank higher and helps you to show more in key words and top posts Once you have a larger following – you can collaborate with other influencers Then you need to make sure you have your online and offline sales process in place and dialed in. At the 32 min mark, Zach gives some hacks for optimizing your profile and his free Growth Hacking Guide which you can get at www.MisfitEntrepreneur.com/Assistagram An easy SEO hack is putting key words in your short bio that when searched for will lead to your profile Research your hashtags very well. Look for hashtags that don’t have millions of posts. Instead focus on hashtags that have smaller amounts of posts. Look for ones with 10-20k posts which will allow you to get noticed more often What is your best advice for entrepreneurs to be successful in business today? You need to remember that it is all about timing Knowing and respecting people’s timing and make sure you are there when the timing is right. Best Quote: “I’d rather burn-out than rest-out and take advantage of opportunities when they come up….” Zach's Misfit 3: 1. Read books and find mentors. Grow yourself. 2. The ones who make the most mistakes grows the fastest 3. Stay consistent in every area of your life you can. The small things add up to big results.
So Controversy. Much Outrage. As usual, it's up to Rod and Zach to cut through the nonsense to deliver the cold, hard facts of what really went down on the streets of Monaco, only for the banter to dissolve into a completely different kind of nonsense. For Zach's birthday race, Rod delivers a quiz takes you back in time, and find out who won (or lost, most accurately) the Monaco wager.
When was the last time sports made you cry? For Zach, it was Saturday. Plus, the Falcons go for it on 4th and 1 on their own 45 yard line in overtime and Shultz and Klein are OK with it. Georgia/Florida and the importance of it for Kirby Smart
On the other hand, if you’re already somewhat familiar, then I can promise that you will learn a whole lot more and really benefit from this weeks guest – Zach Hurwitz… An independent equities trader, trading coach, systems developer, consultant to emerging hedge funds and proprietary trading firms, and VWAP mastermind. For Zach, VWAP forms the lifeline of his trading, and for good reason, this indicator is heavily relied on by many institutional and algorithmic traders. Over the next two hours (yes, two hours!) Zach delivers a thought-provoking introduction to VWAP. And shares many insights around his trading philosophies, psychology pointers, and what it takes to code a trading system. TAKE NOTE: Zach is offering a 30 minute one-on-one coaching session at no cost, exclusively to listeners of Chat With Traders. Listen to the full interview, for details on how to take him up on this generous offer.
