Today I'm joined by Zach Horvath, founder of Live A Great Story. I found this brand a few years ago and the message really resonated with me. It's all about writing a life story that feels good to you; living a full and meaningful life. I wanted to leave a LAGS sticker in each place that I traveled. Cut to three years later I'm sitting in a cafe in Thailand and I meet the founder because he spotted the sticker on my water bottle. I got to sit down with him and ask all about it. Every great story, movie, or book contains elements of what's been called the ‘Hero's Journey' — a series of events and experiences that makes the story meaningful and transformational. It's the process by which the hero-to-be becomes the hero of the story. The interesting thing is that the same elements which make a great story also make a great life. YOU can become the hero of your own life by living and following the ‘Hero's Journey'. When you do, you finally get out of the bleachers and into the arena of truly living. This starts by stepping from the ‘Ordinary World' into the ‘Unknown'. But HOW do you do that? And HOW do you do it if you have children and a family? Doesn't that prevent you from becoming the ‘hero' of your life story simply because you have other people to be responsible for? That's what we dive into in this episode. Listen now for specific strategies for living and creating a ‘great life story' by becoming the hero of your own life as you live and grow and ‘level up' in each area of importance -- mental, emotional, spiritual, social, physical, and financial. If you've ever felt a ‘call' to do something different or bigger than what you're doing now then don't miss this inspiring episode and learn how to accept the call, leave the ‘Ordinary World' and step into the ‘Unknown'.

Have you ever wished could just pack up all your stuff and start over somewhere new?  Well, what's actually stopping you? I bet your brain comes up with all types of reasons that sound good. But if you got super honest, it's more likely that what's kept you where you are, even when you didn't want to be there, is you're just plain comfortable.People often stay where they don't want to be, even when it's not good for them, because the thought of leaving, of making that enormous of a CHANGE, is damn right terrifying. Today's guest decided it was worth it.  Amber Hamilton is a native Texan turned Michigander who decided that in order to live a great story,  she'd have to let go of the one that was assumed for her. It took rock bottoms, boundaries, and bouncing back. If have ever wondered how the hell people do it, well I guess listen and find out.  For today's Show Notes, Mentions, and Transcript click below.https://amylinsmeyer.com/71Get to Know Today's Special Guest, Amber Hamilton

LIVE A GREAT STORY • Simple words. Such diversity in what these words mean from person to person. Zach Horvath joined me in Episode 20 live from Eazy's Listening Room & Studio. Zach developed his brand, Live a Great Story, after going out one night with a can of red spray paint, and spraying the words on a pillar over Town Lake underneath Mopac Bridge. People began taking pictures and sharing these simple words. Zach decided to roll with it, and create a logo that can now be spotted all over the world. • In this podcast we dove right into Zach's story, and talked about how good it is for our minds to travel. What traveling gave us, opening our minds, and the insights we gained from being exposed to different people's perspectives around the world. What happened next exceeded all of Zach and I's expectations of what would transpire. We asked several individuals to share what they had written, but everyone shared in such an authentic capacity that we couldn't stop. Everyone that joined us that night got the opportunity to share, and we selected a few of the best to feature on this podcast. • As usual the microphone was passed around the room, and 40-50 people all shared the moment they were most proud of in their lives. It was beautiful that a bunch of strangers could interact in this way, and feel safe enough to be as vulnerable as every one was. It is a moment I will never forget, and showed us the possibility of what we had created. Listen to people share from their hearts, listen to the diversity in what they are proud of, and think about how it differs from what you yourself are proud of. I felt something shift inside of me when this was happening, and is a feeling I will seek time and time again. Thank you to everyone that made it out for this episode. It was truly special to share. • We decided to hand out cards as people walked in to the studio, and gave them the opportunity to fill out the following: “Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” - Howard Thurman Before you jump into the evening, take a second to reflect on what accomplishment has made you feel truly alive. Big or small, internal or external. A part of your journey you'll remember for your whole life. Write it here: _________________________________________________________________________ Now grab a drink, meet some new people and instead of the usual questions you ask strangers, dive a little deeper into the important parts of life... theirs and yourself. Ask meaningful questions, listen, tune in. Thank you, Anonymous P.S. Be prepared, we might pass you the mic to expand more on your aliveness. • Guest: @commonvandal Businesses: @liveagreatstory • Bringing the conversation of community & culture to Austin, TX. Zach’s guiding principles are to think about whether his relatives who have passed away would be proud of what he’s doing and whether his future children and grandchildren would be proud of him. For Zach, the pursuit of being an entrepreneur is about the continuing journey of overcoming adversity. Sachit asks Zach when he wanted to quit the most, but Zach doesn’t remember a specific moment anymore. He just remembers the overall challenges. Right now, Zach is facing serious struggles with cash flow for the company but he knows he’s going to overcome the challenge and not quit. Zach believes in finding what fuels you to keep going. For him, it’s sweating a little bit each day from running or other exercise. Even Elon Musk’s company came close to running out of money. Sachit asks Zach about his evolution as a founder, and Zach says he sees himself partly as a creative and partly as an entrepreneur. Zach found the inspiration for his brand after backpacking through Europe for 7 months, and put up some spray painted messages around Austin without knowing what it would become. Zach describes how he balances envisioning what his company could be with allowing it to evolve organically, and says as you and your business change, it’s important to regularly check in with yourself about your values and impact. Recently, Zach realized that the values of Live a Great Story and their messaging have been disconnected for a while, so he’s reconnecting with his core audience and top customers to realign. Doing a deep dive into his customers allowed Zach to see that there are common feelings and experiences throughout his broad customer base, who at first glance seem entirely different from one another. Zach shares a story about learning to ask for help. He suggests that you come up with the ten people you would reach out to for help and advice. Zach talks about how and why he started the Live a Great Story conference. It was designed to encourage genuine connection with other people. His advice for conferences is to keep it simple, because it always requires far more planning than you expect. Seeing people with Live a Great Story tattoos is surreal to Zach. He feels like he’s just a small part of a wave. Zach has seen people post stickers or the brand in some crazy and impressive places, including a coffee shop in a small town in Nicaragua. To see people adapt his idea and make it their own is one of the most thrilling parts of this for Zach. The next challenge for Live a Great Story is to find ways to go deeper with the community and bring these people together to make an even bigger impact. To get in touch with Zach, send him a video DM on Instagram. Anyone who does this and says they heard it on this podcast with Sachit will get a free sticker!   3 Key Takeaways: Entrepreneurship is more about the ongoing journey than reaching an endpoint. Check in with yourself and your business to make sure your values align with your practices. Building a community requires a lot of deep listening.   Tweetable Quotes: “I think it’s about figuring out what you need to stay the course. What are those elements that fuel you?” – Zach   “Once you leave Austin, Texas you realize there are a bunch of people that don’t talk like you, don’t look like you, don’t believe what you believe, and having really cool conversations like that really inspired me.” – Zach   “We’re not aiming for a star when we’re launching. It’s more like a constellation or a cluster of stars. It’s pretty far away, so we don’t know what it’ll look like until we get there, but heading in that direction is taking us the right way.” – Zach   “In the deepest moments of I don’t know what I’m doing, I don’t know why I’m doing this, I’d hop on Instagram & there would be someone’s photo with this insane emotional response caption about how it had such an impact on them & that would boost me back up & keep me going.” – Zach   Resources Mentioned: https://liveagreatstory.com/ Zach: Instagram, Twitter   Actions: Subscribe to the show on Apple Podcasts or on your favorite podcast app and let us know what you think by leaving a rating and a review. How do you become the hero of your own life? Our childhood has an impact on our lives that can open the door to fly or shut down your creativity and confidence. Knowing who we are is the key to living a great story. Yet how do you start that journey of getting to know who you are? We all have a different path and while they may not look the same, there is a consistent core truth: love heals. When we can open to the love and support around us, we can make the world a greater place. What is your story? How will you choose to be a force for good? In this episode, I talk about vision, habits and community with Zach Horvath, Founder of Live a Great Story. LIVE A GREAT STORY is a diverse and authentic community focused on inspiring each other to craft our own journey, be true to ourselves and make a unique and meaningful impact. You will learn: * How being your authentic self opens the door to being the hero of your story * What 7 months of traveling the world can inspire in your heart * How not having a grand vision can allow an authentic vision * Why you want to fall in love with the journey * What creates that magnetic force that brings people closer together Some of the questions I asked: * What is your advice for an entrepreneur who has a mission without a clear vision? * How do you connect a large, online brand at a local level? * Why is it now more important than ever to collaborate and work together rather than working alone? * How do you create an environment for collaboration over competition? * What gives you the stamina and energy to create what you are here to do?

I was waiting for coffee here in Santa Cruz when I saw a young woman sitting in the corner reading former guest Patrick Lencioni's book, The Advantage. I had to know more about her – because this isn't something you see that often around here – and she told me that she's on a journey with an organization called LIVE A GREAT STORY.   I share that little story (which ended up being a magical moment of serendipity) with all of you because that's how I ended up meeting today's guest and the organization's founder, Zach Horvath, someone I had been wanting to talk to for quite a while. LIVE A GREAT STORY is a diverse and authentic community focused on inspiring each other to craft their own journey, be true to themselves, and make a unique and meaningful impact.   This powerful community was born out of Zach's desire to connect with people from all around the world. Someone who speaks a different language, comes from a different place, or looks different than you may seem, well, different. However, once you get past the outer layer and start learning about their life story, you start to realize that we are all more similar than we are different.   “At the core, we're all people. No matter the variables that we tend to stack on top of that foundation of being a person – like a worldview, experience, situation, and geography – we're all just people underneath it all.”   Be the Author of Your Own Story   Zach tells us that “the daily decisions that we make are what make up our story.” So when we live each day with intention and don't let life just happen to us, we become the authors of our stories.   I hope this episode and the LIVE community inspire you to take the proverbial pen and live as the author of your story, pushing yourself forward to become a hub of inspiration in your community. Because this is a way we can all make a profound impact on our families, our friends, our communities, and the world – and all it takes to get started is positive intention and a few kind words.   --     Resources: Learn more at https://liveagreatstory.com/ (https://liveagreatstory.com/) Join the FB Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/LIVEAGREATSTORY/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/liveagreatstory/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/liveagreatstory Twitter: https://twitter.com/liveagr8story LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/zoomhorvath/ Watch: "Somm: Into the Bottle"   --   We are brought to you by the Lawton Marketing Group, a full-service advertising and design agency serving companies and entrepreneurs at all levels. The expert on everything Disney, Jeff Barnes from TheWisdomOfWalt.com and author of "The Wisdom of Walt: Leadership Lessons from the Happiest Place on Earth" tells us how to live a great story. He shares how Walt Disney succeeded despite all odds, previous failures and existing competitors to create a superior product and experience. Display TranscriptRobert Plank: We have Jeff Barnes who is an author, professional keynote speaker, university professor, and leadership and success coach. His book is called The Wisdom of Walt. It's an Amazon number 1 bestseller in multiple categories, including personal success in business. We're going to be talking about a lot of fun, Disney kind of stuff today. How are things, Jeff? Jeff Barnes: Hey, Robert. Things are great. How are you? Robert Plank: Super fantastic. I feel like I should say it's magical or wonderful or whatever the proper Disney term is, but I have to admit I know almost nothing about Disney despite living in California. Jeff Barnes: We're doing the interview on a Monday, so let's just go with "happy, magical Monday." Robert Plank: Perfect. Happy, magical Monday. I'm going to start using that one every Monday. Jeff Barnes: Exactly. Robert Plank: Is there one of those for like every day of the week or am I just stuck with the one day of the week? Jeff Barnes: "Magical Monday" is pretty popular. "Have a terrific Tigger Tuesday" is another one that you'll hear every now and then. I like "wonderful Wednesday," which sort of goes back to the Wonderful World of Disney. Yeah, I mean, if you're really, really deep, you've got one for every single day of the week. I typically stick with "magical Monday" and then trust the rest of the days to take care of themselves. Robert Plank: Okay. Yeah, they'll all fall line after that. Jeff Barnes: Exactly. Robert Plank: Cool. It seems like there is this whole crazy, like subculture that's really cool, brands called ... this Walt Disney stuff that you happen to be in the middle of, so can you tell us about that and about yourself and all that good stuff? Jeff Barnes: Sure. 33 million people a year in the United States alone, Robert, go to Walt Disney or Disneyland and, within that pocket of 33 million, there are people who are just fanatics and obsessed and cannot get enough of it. Within Southern California, there is a love and a passion for Disneyland as a local park that beats almost anything I've ever seen to include love for a sports team, love for one's city, town, community, you name it, and part of that is the 61-year history of the park here in Southern California. I think a lot of it has to do with, in Southern California, everybody's from everywhere and there isn't any central place in Southern California, to include downtown Los Angeles, and so, over the years, Disneyland has sort of evolved into the public square for Southern California, and it really is the one place that all of us share together and, sort of like a narrative thread, it becomes the 1 place that sort of holds us all together as well. Robert Plank: What's pretty crazy about all this Disney stuff, because it's seems like there's no dark side to it, there's no one, anyone like saying anything bad about Disney the same way that like a sports team or any kind of usual theme park like your Great America or your Magic Mountain or something like that? Jeff Barnes: Disney is not perfect and they certainly have made their mistakes over the years, but, by and large, people are in because they love it and it is something very special and very magical and it really echoes back to I think a connection that starts in childhood. As I have gone around Southern California and really around the country in the past year promoting the wisdom of Walt, I meet people. Their family moved to Southern California in 1956 and all they could think about was, "Wow, we're going to get to go to Disneyland," or you meet someone else and their dad worked on the construction crew th...

Zach is the Founder of Live A Great Story - a brand that creates and shares stories, hosts events, and inspires people to make life a little more interesting. After dropping out of college in Texas, Zach explored various business ideas, traveled, and eventually moved to San Diego. After many failed attempts to land a job at marketing firms, he spray painted the phrase, "Live A Great Story" on a wall in San Diego as a fun idea, and it quickly became a local obsession. Eventually, he decided to run with the idea, turning it into the business that it is today.
