Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell have collaborated on some blockbuster series, including Game of Thrones and Westworld . They say Amazon's Game Studios gave them an incredible oppportunity to create the music for the huge, mysterious setting of Aeturnum in the just-released MMO, New World. For Ramin and Brandon, the fantasy of the world of the game, and the diverse landscape and factions gave them almost too many ideas for the instrumention and sound of the music. They kept the soundtrack cohesive by creating an instantly identifiable theme that weaves through all the areas the player can explore. There are lots of ways a player can spend time in the game: exploring, battling enemies, and setting up a home base for crafting and resting. Brandon says writing music to reinforce the safe nature of the homebase was kind of a challenge, because they're not called on to do that in their other scores. He says they wanted to remind players to take a moment and enjoy their journey through

Composer John Robert Matz has created a pitch-perfect 18th Century soundtrack to accompany all the intrigue and tension of this remarkable era. John Robert approached writing this ambitious soundtrack by composing it in a traditional way, using an actual manuscript-based program so he could make sure all the parts were correct and the instrumention was period-perfect. He relied on his background as a classical musician, and all those years in the brass section of various orchestras. John Robert wrote the parts for many of his long-time friends, including the Videri String Quartet, oboist Kristin Naigus, Peter Bobinski, double bass, and
Eldest Souls , the first release from Fallen Flag Studio, is a brutally difficult challenge, as the last in a long line of would-be heroes tries to conquer a seemingly never-ending stream of enemies in order to restore balance to the world. Composer Sergio Ronchetti's first-ever game score is up to the challenge, with an artful blend of strings and percussion that perfectly matches each boss. Sergio says he's pretty sure he got the job because he was able to beat one of the impossible bosses at an early demo of the game. Sergio's Main Theme for Eldest Souls is unique to the soundtrack; it's contemplative and encapsulates the loneliness and faint hope that the last warrior experiences on this epic journey. Sergio says he wanted to give it more exposure than just at the beginning of the game, so he created a stunning music video: Because the game music and audio community has been so welcoming and supportive to him, Sergio is eager to do his part, and he's made himself available for one
As part of this summer's Game Developers Conference, composers and audio designers Gina Zdanowicz and Spencer Bambrick of Serial Lab Sound presented a session on how they created a terrifying soundtrack and audio for the cult hit game Evil Nun on a microscopic budget. In our conversation, they also offer some really helpful suggestions for would-be composers and sound designers who want to move their careers further along.
