Head Coach Todd McLellan addressed the media on September 28th
LA Kings Head Coach Todd McLellan Stops by the podcast today to give us an update on his squad. We talk to Todd about the teams recent trade deadline moves and what they have done to improve the team as we enter the dying days of the regular season. Todd also gives us a look into what he and his team are doing to prepare for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Hear from Head Coach Todd McLellan, speaking about defenseman Jordan Spence from earlier this morning.
General Manager Rob Blake, Head Coach Todd McLellan, Assistant GM Nelson Emerson and Kings President Luc Robitaille spoke to LA Kings Season Ticket Members at the 2023 LA Kings State of the Franchise event at Microsoft Theater on February 15th, 2023.
For episode 195, we're going back into The Coaches Site vault to hear LA Kings Head Coach Todd McLellan's 2021 Virtual Hockey Summit presentation titled "Coaching: Today, Tomorrow & Beyond." The talk is a foundational piece of content for coaches of all levels and provides a practical framework, particularly at the youth level, on how to handle adversity and shape their approach to the season. Over the past 28 years, McLellan has been a coach in the SJHL, WHL, IHL, AHL & NHL, and in all but three of those seasons, he's been at the helm. He's in his eighth season as NHL Head Coach and third with the Los Angeles Kings. McLellan has a Stanley Cup under his belt from his time with the Detroit Red Wings in 2007-08, and on January 2, 2022, he won his 500th NHL game, becoming the 27th coach in league history to accomplish the feat. Listen as McLellan shares his thoughts about why there certainly is an I in team, a player's mindset versus a coach's mindset, and how to develop a player support system that promotes individualism.
The LA Kings closed out their first road trip of the season with a loss in the standings and multiple losses on the ice. Forward Andreas Athanasiou was ruled ineligible to play before the game and defensemen Matt Roy and Sean Walker were lost to injury during the game. Roy was driven head first into the boards by Kevin Fiala, while Sean Walker was struck in the face by a rising slap shot fired by Matt Dumba. Despite the injuries, the team seemed to rally late in the game before ultimately losing 5-3. Following the game, Head Coach Todd McLellan and Drew Doughty were made available to the media and offered up rare insight and sincerity when talking about the difficult circumstances the game presented. Carrlyn Bathe and host Jesse Cohen were both on the post game media calls and spoke about the some of the more shocking moments on this episode of All The Kings Men. The Oilers will look to improve to 2-0 tonight as they host the Los Angeles Kings from Rogers Place. There are no shortage of storylines heading into this one. Recently, the Oilers have dominated the Kings on home ice, winning five of their last six matchups from Rogers Place but there are some interesting factors heading into tonight's game. The Oilers begin life without Adam Larsson, who will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks with a broken foot, and will be looking for big contributions from the likes of Ethan Bear, Matt Benning, and Joel Persson, who is set to make his NHL debut tonight. This will also be the return of former Head Coach Todd McLellan who was hired by the LA Kings this summer. Apart from the coaching change, it was a quiet summer for the Kings organization which was surprising considering the fact that they finished dead last in the Pacific Division last season. The Kings are also one of just two NHL teams who haven't played a game yet this season. I covered all of that and more in the second edition of the 'Oilersnation Pre Game Podcast'. It's 20 minutes of pure Oilers talk from line combos, locker room audio, and stats to get you set for tonight's game. Download it with the link below or find it on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud, or Google Podcasts!
