It has not been a good month is the sports world when it comes to racism. Last weel Bronny James, Lebron's son, got lambasted by many for taking a white girl to the prom. The comments on social media were disgusting both towards he and his date. Then two weeks ago Draymond Green accused sports talk show icon Cristopher Russo of being racist. Draymond know considers himself as " The New Media". Let's all pray that doesn't become reality. This past weekend Josh Donaldson called White Sox Shortstop Tim Anderson Jackie. Donaldson claims it was a joke from a SI article in which Anderson referred to himself as 'today's Jackie Robinson". Yesterday Donaldson was suspended for one game by MLB. Also, over the weekend Nazem Kadri of the Colorado Avalanche ran into St. Louis goalie Jordan Binnington. Binnington injured his knee and is out for the rest of the series. Kadri who has a history of dirty plays is a Muslim of Lebanese descent. No penalty was called on the play and after reviewing the play the NHL said no discipline would be forthcoming. Over the past few days Kadri has received numerous threats and racial attacks. The St Louis Police Department has had to put officers in from of the team hotel. Learn more about your ad choices. Bryan Rust signs a 5 year extension with Pittsburgh and we ask, what does that mean for Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang moving forward with the Penguins? The guys also take a look at what of the six vacant NHL coaching positions, from Vegas, to Chicago, Dallas, Winnipeg, Detroit and Philadelphia is most appealing for coaches looking for work next season. Jeremy Rutherford joins the boys to breakdown the first three games of the St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche series, the collision between Nazem Kadri and Jordan Binnington, Ville Husso stepping back in between the pipes and the Selke Trophy performance from Ryan O'Reilly as he continues to shutdown Nathan MacKinnon. Here to deliver all that the sports world has to offer, you've come to the right place to get my opinions and analysis as we kick off the week with a loaded podcast. On deck: (4:15) The NBA postseason has been anything but great, even good, for that matter. As evidenced by two Conference Finals that has one on the brink of conclusion (the Warriors taking a 3-0 series lead) and the ugliness of Games 2 & 3 between Miami & Boston. Game 3 did get interesting in the final few minutes, but I'll tell you why that game was tough to take if you're a Celtic fan? With both series potentially over by Wednesday night, there may be a case where you'll have EIGHT days between then and the start of the NBA Finals on June 2nd, which the league is privately holding their collective breaths. (19:45) What happened to the Florida Panthers? The President's Trophy winner of the regular season could be out of the playoffs as early as tonight, as the Lightning have a commanding 3-0 lead in their best of seven series. Will they have any fight, or show some pride to avoid a sweep? The Battle of Alberta has the Edmonton Oilers in favor with a 2-1 series advantage. Are they in the driver's seat to win over their hated rival Flames? The Avalanche have a leg up on the Blues as they won Game 3 in St. Louis, which has led to a little controversy regarding Avs center, Nazem Kadri. He ran into Blues goaltender, Jordan Binnington, who is now lost for the remainder of the series. Kadri has received death threats from people out in social media because of this incident. How will this impact the Avalanche remains to be seen? And the Rangers have gotten themselves back in the series as the scene shifts to Madison Square Garden with a win over the Hurricanes. (32:33) The White Sox and Yankees went at it over the weekend, where sparks flew between Yankees 3B Josh Donaldson and White Sox SS Tim Anderson. Donaldson's remark toward Anderson caused an uproar on the field and in the postgame of alleged racist undertones toward the shortstop, where Donaldson was pleading his case. Did Donaldson cross the line? Was it offensive? Should Donaldson be suspended for his actions? Albert Pujols hit two home runs yesterday to bring his all time number to 683. Will he catch or surpass Alex Rodriguez for fourth place in his quest to hit 700 for his career? I'll revisit the Max Scherzer injury as the Mets try to hold down the fort until his return, which could also coincide the return of Jacob deGrom in late June/early July. The Padres have played very well without Fernando Tatis Jr. and Blake Snell. They come off of a sweep of the Giants in San Francisco as they're just a half game back in the NL West behind the Dodgers. I'll take a trip throughout the major leagues and assess what's happening as we're starting to see some separation between the haves and have nots. (47:41) The second golf major (PGA Championship) of 2022 was completed over the weekend. In dramatic fashion, Justin Thomas wins in a playoff vs. Will Zalatoris. The toughest loss of all was Mito Pereira who had the competition won, but double bogeyed on the 18th hole nullifying him of winning the PGA. Combine that with a furious comeback by Thomas. It was a not so great tournament but it did deliver a thrilling end as he wins his second PGA in his career. (51:54) There's already been an upset at the French Open as Naomi Osaka was ousted in the first round. I'll preview both the men's and women's side as to who has a run in them to make it to a final. Although the men's bracket is puzzling as you have Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and young upstart, Carlos Alcaraz all on the same side to where one of those three could potentially not make it to a semifinal match, let alone a final. (56:21) In closing, my Hero and Zero of the Week. We should start by saying the Avalanche did the most important thing in Game 3 against the St. Louis Blues and that was win the game, giving them a 2-1 lead in the series and taking back home ice. Now that we have that out of the way Game 3 in all likelihood will be a tipping point in the series. Up until now both teams have been pretty much on their best behavior. But two plays in Game 3 speak to a different tone. The first was Samuel Girard getting checked hard into the boards by Ivan Barbashev. Girard immediately went down, did not return and we later found out he will be out the remainder of the year with a broken sternum. A little later, Nazem Kadri, going for a loose puck right in front of the net, collided with Blues defenseman Calle Rosen who was also trying to play the puck. The momentum of both players carried them into goalie Jordan Binnington who also left the game and did not return. We found out later Binnington will not be back for the remainder of this series. The talk on social media, because it's Nazem Kadri, is that the play on Binnington was deliberate and dirty. Why? Simply because he wears the name Kadri on his back. Inside today's Locked on Canadiens: Scott and Laura peak back into the insanity of the NHL playoffs and offer up some takes on the ongoing series. The Battle of Alberta is tied up heading into Game 3, Mike Smith managed to redeem himself, but Scott still doesn't know if he can keep it up in a seven game series. Nazem Kadri had a water bottle thrown at him by Jordan Binnington after Kadri had accidentally collided with the Blues goalie and knocked him out of the game. Was the Kadri hit intentional, or was it a pure accident and his history of discipline is clouding people's judgement? Arpon Basu of the Athletic wrote a detailed breakdown on Shane Wright, and both hosts agreeing that even with a potential lack of flash, Shane Wright appears to be a slam dunk fit for head coach Martin St. Louis. The hosts breakdown the article, and all the reasons why the team shouldn't galaxy brain this first overall pick, and just go with the Wright choice. Then, to flip gears in the final segment the hosts galaxy brain *EVERYTHING* about the upcoming Canadiens' off-season thanks to a listener suggestion. Can the team acquire Filip Forsberg, while also shedding a ton of a cap space to make the contract work? Can Kent Hughes sweeten Shea Weber's contract enough to get a huge return from the Arizona Coyotes? Scott and Laura give their thoughts on a wildly fun hypothetical question. The Avalanche bounced back in an outstanding way on the road in Game 3, beating the St. Louis Blues 5-2 on the back of one of their best third period performances of the season and contributions from up and down the lineup. However, the game did not come without controversy. Nazem Kadri had a collision with Jordan Binnington, forcing Binnington out of the game and potentially the series. Looking at the replay, was there anything Kadri could've done to avoid contact? Also, Sam Girard will miss the remainder of the playoff with a broken sternum after taking a brutal hit 45 seconds into the game. So yeah, it was definitely one hell of a night . We have talked on several occasions over the course of the season on how Nazem Kadri has been on his best behavior throughout the season. Sure he has his fair share of penalty minutes, but the vast majority of those minutes are due to the hard style of hockey he plays. You aren't seeing the overly aggressive, looking for a fight Kardi. And just look at what it has done for him this season. Amassing a career high in points. Kadri wrote a letter in the Players Tribune yesterday and it covered a lot of bases. His time in Toronto, not wanting to be traded but when he eventually was his appreciation in how quickly the community of Denver was towards him and his family. He also talks about this team specifically and how special they are. You read him gushing about all of this and you have to wonder if he will sign anywhere other than Colorado when he is an unrestricted free agent after the season is over. Plus, Kadri was the Colorado Avalanche nominee for the King Clancy Award, which is presented "to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.". We know what Kadri has done off the ice for his community, but it's that ON the ice part that is quite the turnaround. Chris and Kyle also watch a new Pepsi commercial that features Cale Makar and Gabriel Landeskog in hilarious fashion. It' gives funny commercials hope again. Tune in and subscribe! Peter Baugh of The Athletic wrote a very good article on Nazem Kadri and if gives us a look behind the curtain on how he handled being traded from Toronto to Colorado. Kadri has given his best effort to not be looked at as the guy who takes cheap shots since the trade, but his hit in the playoffs last year that turned out to be a season ending suspension didn't help the narrative. The difference was while Kyle Dubas of the Maple Leafs moved on from Kadri after his postseason transgressions, Joe Sakic and the Colorado Avalanche stood by him. Will this come into play in the offseason when Kadri becomes a free agent? Will there be some appreciation from Kadri to the Avs? The Colorado Avalanche played like we all knew they could. We've seen it for the majority of the season. But a four game losing streak at this point in the season had fans with so many questions. But they also had answers. Players like Devon Toews had been out for a while nursing minor injuries. He was back Tuesday night against the St. Louis Blues and boy did it show. From the opening puck drop the Avalanche looked like the team we have come to know this year. Maybe it was getting Toews back, maybe it was the home cooking, maybe it was just the annoyance of losing four in a row. Whatever it was, the Avalanche got back on track with a 5-3 win over St. Louis. That isn't to say it was all sunshine. The Avs allowed the Blues to creep back in to the game as their 4-1 lead shrunk to 4-3. But an empty net goal by Nazem Kadri put the game out of reach. Chris and Kyle break it all down! Nazem Kadri and Gabriel Landeskog are all that remain from keeping the Avalanche being 100% healthy. Ok, Ryan Murray too but you know what we mean. Naz and Landy are obviously returning to their rightful place in the lineup when they are healthy enough to do so, and with the Avalanche playing well with the players they have now, who will be the two men out when the Captain and Kadri eventually come back? We also take a look at the four teams that could potentially face off against the Avalanche in the first round of the playoffs. Between the Los Angeles Kings, the Vegas Golden Knights, the Dallas Stars and the Nashville Predators, one team has the clear easy schedule while one has the clear roughest road ahead. Chris and Kyle break it all down and predict who that first opponent will be. Tune in and subscribe! The NHL season is a long one and teams are going to go through so rough patches. Right now is one of those moments for the Colorado Avalanche. If moral victories counted the Avs would add to their already league leading points total. But, they do not. The Avs played well and took every punch Carolina threw at them. Once the Avalanche settled in, they took control of the game for large parts. But nothing would go in. It was a no call against a held Nazem Kadri that would lead to the first and only goal Carolina would need. Add an empty net goal and there is our final score.
