There are no Edmonton Oilers games until Friday, which meant today's episode of Oilersnation Radio was spent looking at what's to come and what's been happening over the first quarter of the 2024-25 NHL season. This week, the boys discussed the Oilers' scoring woes, what's happening with Hyman and Arvidsson, and a whole lot more. The guys started the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the scoring issues and whether we should be concerned about any of the struggling players. Whether it's Viktor Arvidsson's mysterious injury, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' struggles or Jeff Skinner's being in the coach's doghouse, there are a few players who need to pick it up, whether we're worried about them or not. Changing gears, we looked at some of the other news that's happened over the last few days, including Vasily Podkolzin's first goal as an Oilers, the injuries to Hyman and Arvidsson, and we also looked at Darnell Nurse's first game back after the hit by Ryan Reaves last week in Toronto. Despite no games until Friday, we still got a lot of Oilers news over the last few days, and we took the time to cover it all. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a flurry of random topics, including another rant about the Oilers not needing John Gibson, who will play in net for Canada at the 4 Nations Face Off, some betting talk, and when we think Stuart Skinner will get his save percentage back above .900. Even without playing since Saturday, that didn't mean the boys didn't have plenty to talk about to fill an hour.

On today's episode… it's a FRIDAY FACEOFF! We're bringing you a new segment where we pick a controversial topic in the hockey world and debate both sides. Today's hot topic: Hit by Toronto Maple Leafs' Ryan Reaves on Edmonton Oilers' Darnell Nurse. Was it dirty or clean? Was it suspension worthy or not? TEN MINUTES ON THE CLOCK STARTING NOW! We appreciate every listen, download, comment, rating and share on your social sites! The Edmonton Oilers are back home after a mediocre eastern Canadian road trip, and their first game back at Rogers Place wasn't much better, which meant there was plenty to talk about on the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio. This week, we recapped Thursday's loss to the Minnesota Wild, looked at the Oilers' injury issues, and a whole lot more. The guys kicked off the Friday episode of the podcast with a delicious debate about the Oilers' goaltending and how concerned we are about the current situation and tandem. Given that Stuart Skinner was the second best goalie again last night even though the game started with a mind blowing mistake on Marc-Andre Fleury that came only 27 seconds into the first period. Yet, at the same time, is it fair to blame everything on Stuart Skinner given the mistakes that are happening in front of him?Changing gears, we then looked at the injuries that the Oilers are running up against all of a sudden. With Viktor Arvidsson still on the shelf despite being listed as day-to-day for the last week, Zach Hyman getting banged up, and Darnell Nurse still an unknown after the Ryan Reaves hit in Toronto, Edmonton now finds themselves with some pretty key players off the roster for the short term. We then looked at the rumour mill after a handful of names have been tied to the Oilers over the last couple of weeks and whether any of those players could be realistic trade targets. As much as it's fun to imagine another Ekholm-like trade, is it realistic to expect movement this early in the season when we still don't have clarity on Edmonton's cap situation?
Riley and Derek start the show by discussing their previous weekends including the Flyers Warriors Gala and their men's league game. Jumping over to some Flyers talk, the boys discuss Matvei Michkov's overtime goal in Ottawa, Ivan Fedotov and Aleksei Kolosov playing well, and the last 3 games against Ottawa, Buffalo, and Colorado. They mention a couple big milestones including Helge Grans' impressive NHL debut, Erik Johnson reaching 1000 career NHL games and his ceremony, and Ovechkin coming closer and closer to Gretzky's goal record. Moving along they discuss Auston Matthews' mysterious injury, referee Mitch Dunning going down, Ryan Reaves' illegal check to Darnell Nurse's head, and JT Miller leaving the Vancouver Canucks. Before we get to the interview Riles and Nasty discuss the Boston Bruins firing head coach Jim Montgomery. All time legendary Philadelphia Flyers enforcer, and current Flyers scout Dave Brown joined us for an interview! Brown Dog gives us his insights on the current Flyers team, the prospects, and the rebuild. He talks to us about what he looks for when he's scouting for the Flyers, how many games he attends a month and also gives his thoughts on analytics. Moving along to his playing career he tells us about the start of his hockey career, shares some funny stories from his junior career, fighting in pro hockey and playing in Maine. We go on to talk about his playing career starting with the Flyers, the anxiety before fighting, fighting in training camps. Going back to his Flyers days he tells us about the historic pregame brawl against the Canadiens, the 1987 playoff run and Cup loss to Edmonton, and playing for Mike Keenan. Wrapping up the interview Brownie goes in depth on being traded to the Oilers and winning the Stanley Cup with Edmonton. Finishing up the show Derek and Riley answer fan submitted questions presented by Klyr Rum. Nasty Knuckles is an original show created by co-hosts, Riley Cote and Derek "Nasty" Settlemyre. The show will feature a mix of interviews, never before heard story-telling, hockey-talk, and maybe some pranks... On Episode 526 of Spittin' Chiclets, the season has finally begun. This is it. What better time than the start of hockey season than with the new release of Amazon's “Faceoff” NHL Documentary series detailing last years playoff runs and the key stars involved. With that, we are pleased to have the show runner Daniel Amigone, join us to talk about what went into telling these stories, what might have been cut from the show, and potential plans for a second season. Later on, we have the reigning MVP, and the originator of the Sandbagger, Nathan Mackinnon, on the show to talk about his off-season regiment, and how the Avalanche look going into the season. We might even see Nate Dawg on the Big Deal Selects next year competing for a Chiclets Cup Championship. After watching all about Nylander's playoff experience last year, we throw it over to an all-time guest, Ryan Reaves, and there's no lack of chirps. Could we see Biz Vs. Reavo at Rough and Rowdy? Does Whit have to be a leafs fan now? Is Pasha on to something with the Devils this year? All this and more on this weeks episode. You won't want to miss it. 00:00:00 - Start 00:05:09 - Jeremy Swayman 00:19:45 - Amazon Series 00:23:16 - Daniel Amigone Interview 00:57:05 - Global Series Games 01:19:10 - Nathan Mackinnon Interview 02:18:37 - NCAA CHL Rule Changes 02:26:36 - Ryan Reaves Interview 02:58:10 - Season Picks Support the Show: PINK WHITNEY: Take Your Shot with Pink Whitney Enter the sweepstake at https://pinkwhitney.com/nashville GAMETIME: Download the Gametime app today and use code CHICLETS to easily score great deals with the new Gametime Picks!
