On today's Western Conference Tuesday edition of Locked on NHL, Seth Toupal and Nick Morgan discuss the ongoing extension dilemma for Elias Pettersson and the Vancouver Canucks. We discuss the latest rumblings that Pettersson still isn't sure about signing a long term extension to stay in Vancouver. We look at the options the Canucks still have, including taking Pettersson to arbitration like the Wild did with Kevin Fiala. It is unfortunate that this is all making waves with the Canucks leading the Western Conference in points. We move to Patrick Kane's return to Chicago on Chris Chelios night. Seth and Nick discuss Kane still looking weird in a Red Wings jersey, but also note how good it was to see a rousing ovation for Kane even as he scored the overtime winner to beat the Blackhawks. Seth and Nick finish by discussing the impending return of Valeri Nichushkin from the Player's Assistance Program. Seth states that this may be the most impactful move made in the West before the trade deadline.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Ibotta - Indeed Right now, Ibotta is offering our listeners $5 just for trying Ibotta by using the code LOCKEDONNHL when you register. On today's episode of Locked on Wild, we look back on some of Bill Guerin's biggest trade wins since he took over as Wild GM. We start with arguably his biggest trade which sent Kevin Fiala to Los Angeles for Brock Faber and a first round pick that ended up being Liam Ohgren. We look at the position Guerin was in after going to arbitration with Fiala, and how he was still able to get a significant haul for Fiala even though every other team knew he was going to be traded. We look at what Faber has done at just 21 years old, and why Fiala's production has mirrored the struggles of the Kings over the last few weeks. We move to the Kaapo Kahkonen trade for Jake Middleton. We discuss Guerin realizing that Kahkonen wasn't going to be "the guy" in net for the Wild and acquiring a player in Middleton who has been a top 4 defenseman ever since for the Wild. We look at Kahkonen's struggles and the fact that he is now a backup for a Sharks team that is still trying to find their way. We finish by discussing the Cam Talbot for Filip Gustavsson trade. We look back on the infamous Draft Day quote by Guerin in response to Talbot's camp saying they wanted the 50/50 split with Marc-Andre Fleury rectified, and how quickly Guerin made the decision to make a move after that. We look at Talbot's numbers with the Senators and the fact that the Wild acquired a young goaltender who had a Vezina caliber season last year and is still just 25 years old for a guy who wasn't likely to re-sign with the Wild after the season anyway. All in all, Bill Guerin has had no shortage of good trades since he took over!
