Now there's a sentence that would have astonished pretty much everyone only one year ago. But it doesn't end there. Joseph Parker failed a test for cocaine; Oleksandr Usyk has lost a belt; and, wait for it, Fabio Wardley is a world heavyweight champion. In an effort to stabilise our senses we go back in time to when Roy Jones Jnr was at his peak and James Toney, the fearsome super-middleweight king, was expected to beat him. Talk about a bumpy ride! Sebastian Juarez was dropped in the first round, lost a point, only to stop Demarcus Layton, in what pretty clearly was the 'Round of the Year'Other notables on this card: Unified women's middleweight champion Desley Robinson stopped Logan Holler in two rounds, and super middleweight Ronny Alvarez is a bad boy, as he looked like a 21-year-old Cuban fighter who can move up the ranks fast. In L.A., Albert Gonzalez defeated Leonardo Baez, as he continues to be my No.1 prospect in the sport. Other Top Rank fighters featured on the card were Andres Cortes and Elvis Rodriguez, who both got wins. Perla Bazaldua and Yazmin Martinez Jimenez fought to a draw. In the U.K., George Liddard became a major player as he stopped Kieron Conway in a fun fight, Shannon Ryan defeated Chloe Watson after Watson suffered an eye injury early in the fight The bout went to the cards. Tiah Mai Ayton and Jimmy Sains also got stoppage wins. This week...we have the WBC Grand Prix tournament taking place. One of the more fun events that we have seen in some time. Thursday, Salita Promotions returns in Puerto Rico with a great main event between unbeaten Joshua Pagan and Maliek Montgomery. Ashleyann Lozada vs. Melissa Oddessa Parker is a solid co-feature at women's middleweight. Then, the big fight on DAZN pay-per-view. Joseph Parker will face Fabio Wardley. The winner would face Oleksandr Usyk at some point if Usyk decides to continue boxing. The Kiwi faces big-hitting Brit Fabio Wardley in London in just over a fortnight, with a hopeful title fight against undisputed Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk sometime early next year.
