Hail Yes! A Detroit Free Press Podcast About University of Michigan Sports
Michigan football's game against USC was the "pendulum swing" game of the year, but unfortunately for U-M fans, the season swung in the wrong way. Michigan was clobbered by USC in the second half, losing the game 31-13 and putting the Wolverines back into must-win mode. If Michigan wants to get back into the College Football Playoff conversation, it'll probably have to be perfect from here. That starts this week with a big matchup against a Washington team that'll provide a lot of matchup problems for the Wolverines. Tony and Andrew open the show by discussing what went wrong for Michigan on the road at USC and what Sherrone Moore's team must fix before Washington. Then after the break, the guys make predictions for the Washington game and share their picks for a fun slate of college football games this weekend. Read all about the Michigan Wolverines by heading to our website at freep.com/sports.
Another getting fired.

Michigan football faces a talented Washington Huskies offense at the Big House this Saturday (12 p.m., FOX). UW's offense is led by a trio that has been as good as advertised this season: QB Demond Williams Jr., RB Jonah Coleman and WR Denzel Boston. Is that enough to overcome multiple injuries on the offensive line? Chris Fetters of DawgMan/247Sports gives us the inside scoop on the Huskies on this episode of Behind Enemy Lines. Being part of Michigan Football means more than game-day wins. It means pressure, purpose, and lifelong brotherhood. In Season 6 Episode 4 of What Dewey Do?, Hudson Hollenbeck opens up about his life as a Michigan Wolverine, from the grind of daily training and locker room culture to big game moments, academic balance, and staying present amid NIL pressure and social media noise. He also shares the core values of Michigan Brotherhood, what he's learned from the veterans, and how competition shaped him into the man he's becoming. You'll hear honest reflections on the cost of success, financial discipline as a student-athlete, and the mindset needed to thrive on and off the field. Tune in and learn what it takes to compete with grit, lead with humility, and stay focused when the stakes are high. Hudson's story might be about football but the wisdom applies far beyond the field. Quotes: - Dewey Steffen: "Sometimes you're the hammer, sometimes the nail. You'll get hit with unexpected expenses. That's why it's smart to upgrade what you can while you can." - Hudson Hollenbeck: "Some people don't get it right away, but once you walk into a place where everyone supports each other, you want to give your all." - Hudson Hollenbeck: "Control the controllables. You can't predict when things will go wrong, but you can prepare and that applies to life and football." Hudson Hollenbeck is the starting punter and holder for the University of Michigan football team and a 2023 College Football National Champion. A former Mississippi State athlete, Hudson's story is one of grit, growth, and an unwavering belief in team culture over entitlement. After experiencing the challenges of being cut and personal loss, he found purpose at Michigan, where camaraderie, discipline, and the Michigan Brotherhood fuel his performance on and off the field. Beyond football, Hudson is the founder of "Punting Cancer Away," a campaign that honors his late mother and supports lung cancer research.
