So, there's been some blowback from an admittedly vocal minority to looking ahead, past Northwestern, to Michigan football's Oct. 30 matchup vs. Michigan State. If you're upset about this, stop it! We explain why before getting into the other weird argument -- this time coming from State fans -- about our strength of schedule argument (ignoring the fact that we were talking about offense vs. defense and such, not team record vs. team record). 1. Lions fall to 0-5; lose rags for seasonThis morning on Stony and Jansen Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell was done crying, but he went on to elaborate on the Lions only good receiver. Tyrell Williams was concussed in week 1 and its been almost a full month. But it is unknown when he will be able to return to the field.Per The Detroit News-Lions coach Dan Campbell said in his weekly interview Tuesday on 97.1 WXYT-FM that Williams is not close to returning from the brain injury that has sidelined him the past four games.“That doesn't look good right now,” Campbell said when asked about Williams' availability for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. “I would say that's off in the distance for sure.”https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2021/10/12/detroit-lions-wr-tyrell-williams-still-dealing-concussion/6101219001/?utm_campaign=snd-autopilotDan Campbell is genuine. It's one of his most endearing qualities as head coach. There is no pretense about Campbell, no charade. What you see is who he is, and if you've followed the NFL long enough, you know for people in positions of power that isn't always the case. Campbell isn't the first NFL coach to get emotional at a postgame news conference, like he did after Sunday's heartbreaking 19-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. But the fact that he did, that he hurt so publicly for his players and a Detroit Lions organization that had a win wrenched from its grasp for the second time in three weeks, resonated in the locker room and with the fan base.2. Jon Gruden out as Raiders coachThe NFL Players Association said Tuesday that it plans to request that the NFL release the remainder of the 650,000 emails reviewed as part of the investigation into workplace misconduct with the Washington Football Team.Leaked emails from that investigation that showed Jon Gruden used racist, misogynistic and anti-gay language led to the Las Vegas Raiders coach's resignation Monday night."We have had communications with the league, and the NFLPA plans to request that the NFL release the rest of the emails," NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith told USA Today Sports in a phone interview.NFLPA spokesperson George Atallah confirmed to ESPN's Dan Graziano that the union planned to request the emails. An NFL spokesperson told USA Today that it had no plans to release those emails for confidentiality reasons.

I think we have several needs that we need to tackle in the offseason.Avila talked about pursuing a proven, veteran starting pitcher and catcher in free agency, as well as trying to upgrade at shortstop.“Pitching is very important,” Avila said. “We've established three young starters (Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal and Matt Manning), but because of injuries, it's set us back a little bit. The injury to Spencer Turnbull is devastating, really.“And the injury to Matt Boyd, there's a decision looming there now going into the offseason.”“The resources will be there,” Avila said. “But I will caution you, this is not going to be spending like a drunken sailor. This is going to be a very measured process. We're going to make sure whatever decisions we make free agent-wise don't sink the organization for years to come. We want it to help the organization for years to come.” Avila, from 2015 through 2020, shred some $200 million off the payroll. Miguel Cabrera, who is owed $32 million each of the next two seasons, is the last remaining oversized contract on the books. They have salary commitments to just two other players for next season — $7.5 million to Jonathan Schoop and $5 million to Robbie Grossman. If want to pick one player who was emblematic of the Tigers' turnaround in 2021, pick Grossman. He signed a two-year, $10 million contract last winter and produced a career-year at age 31.On a team that had ranked at or near the bottom of the league in walks and chasing pitches out of the strike zone, Grossman was a season-long object lesson in taking professional at-bats.He walked 98 times, second-most in the American League. On a team that was trying to establish a culture of aggressive play, Grossman produced just the seventh 20-20 season in club history — 20 homers, 20 stolen bases.

On today's episode of Bucky's 5th Podcast we turn the page to the Michigan Wolverines who bring a 4-0 record into Camp Randall on Saturday. To start, we discuss how the offense will look to rebound after a colossal failure last weekend. After that, we break down how we expect the Badger defense to fair against the strongest rushing attack they've faced so far this season. Later on, we discuss who we think we'll be talking about come Sunday morning and give a score prediction for Saturday's contest. In the back half of the show we are joined by Anthony Broome of Maize N Brew to get an insider look at the Michigan Wolverines. In our conversation, we discuss the cautious optimism surrounding the Wolverines, and how they expect to fair in this huge Big Ten battle. At the end, Anthony gives a prediction that just might give Badger fans a slimmer of hope? Enjoy! We'll be back with you next week to recap Saturday's contest. Learn more about your ad choices. The Michigan Wolverines moved to 4-0 on the season on Saturday with a 20-13 win over Rutgers, but it wasn't supposed to be that comfortable and certainly didn't feel like it would happen after the first half of football. The Wolverines did not fold in the last two quarters of play and were able to do enough to secure a win, but it has fans on the edge heading into a showdown with Wisconsin next weekend. Anthony Broome discusses what happened in a quick reaction podcast and why questions are warranted, but why it's not quite time to hit the eject button yet. Also, some of your reactions and more. It's a battle of two undefeated teams as Big Ten play starts in earnest on Saturday. Rutgers comes to town with a lot of swagger after starting 3-0 and a year after taking Michigan football to triple overtime a year ago.
