This week we welcome Jamie Skella to the iRacing podcast to discuss his new venture in iRacing. Trax Racing. We talk to Jamie all about Trax racing that pits drivers against a rival for the season that they are tasked in beating each week and over the 4 week season. Trax Racing has so far seen an invitational series with some pro drivers and some of the best sim racers and content creators joining in to beat their rival. It is a great concept and a fascinating discussion on how it all came about. We then get to chat to Jamie all about the Melbourne and Australian eSports scene and where iRacing fits into that, and what the future may hold for eSports and racing sims in the future in Australia. We look into the difference between real-life sports and eSports and how they should be working together but don't seem to be. Finally, we chat about what it is like opening the eSports gaming bar, GG EZ, and where that may head into the future. After our chat with Jamie, we discuss all the latest results in the iRacing world from the Australian perspective and chat about leagues such as Ozicar, Anzcar, ODSE, in2sim switch up series and of course, all the action from the latest V8 Scops round. We also look at the latest patch notes and a little problem appearing in a few drivers over the previous weeks regarding stutter while racing. Over the last 15 years, I have been blessed to work with globally renowned futurists learning about disruptive innovations; however, I am only beginning to realise the power these technologies are having in shifting what it means to be human. This is the exact reason why I was so curious to interview Jamie Skella about what it means to be a purposeful human in an age being redefined by emerging technologies. The exciting thing is that it's not technology that has the influence but the chain reactions to those technologies.Todays Guest is Jamie Skella. Speaker Jamie Skella Type Live Conversation About Work Club Global Work Club Global is for people and organisations who want to break free from the rigid, conventions of traditional working. Those who have freedom of movement, curiosity of mind, diversity of thought and courage of spirit to transition effortlessly between work, life and leisure. Work Club provides collaborative working spaces to stimulate and energise its members and encourages conversations to spark creativity. About this conversation Technologist and entrepreneur Jamie Skella has spent two decades designing, building and advising of businesses across blockchain, IoT, and even future food. Formerly Executive Director at MiVote, a not-for-profit democratic movement, Jamie has since gone on to co-found one of Australia’s first blockchain projects, Horizon State. A company focused on redesigning how societies collaboratively make decisions using emerging technology – and how to arrive at high-quality decisions – Horizon State has built a community empowerment and secure voting platform that delivers unprecedented trust through the integrity and post-unforgeable attributes of distributed ledger technology. More About The Speaker Jamie Skella joins Florence Guild to explain Blockchain in simple terms, walk us through the Horizon State story, and gets us to think big picture about the opportunity that blockchain enabled disruption presents – as well as the risks and opportunities that come along with it. Decentralisation and disintermediation is on the horizon, whether you’re ready for it or not. Conversation Notes - Blockchain can be framed as a digitised and synchronized notebook, designed to replace how society organises itself. - It provides for an equitable and disintermediated society where we can redistribute wealth and potentially even save the environment. - In the long-term, the banks will need to make way for the rapid influx of change. - At this stage, developer tools are young and a lot more quality design work needs to be in place. - The accountability and transparency present in the system will always counteract the criminal element. Quote “It’s not the technology we need to stop, or slow, or fix – it’s the people. Technology is agnostic, all technology can be used for good and for bad.” Jamie's Linkedin: Jamie Skella Jamie's Twitter: Jamie Skella Join Us Did you enjoy the conversation? Meet Jamie Futurist and entrepreneur Jamie Skella talks with me about why we should be optimistic about technology like AI and blockchain. As well as the future of democracy and the media. I resonate so much with Jamie who talks about something I absolutely believe in, and is one of the driving factors of why I started this podcast and Futures Collective as a whole. Technology like AI is automating and replacing jobs, there's no doubt about that, but there is also incredible opportunities that can come out of all this innovation if we foster what makes us unique as humans. The best part is he also makes this podcast actionable and relevant to young people growing up today. Jamie has spent 20 years in the design, building and advising of businesses across blockchain, eSports, machine learning, and even future food. He has formerly been the Executive Director at MiVote, and is now the Co-Founder of Horizon State, who are redesigning how societies collectively make decisions using distributed ledger technology. Collective Campus hosted Disrupt the Public Sector, its annual conference on innovation in Government, for the third time this year as part of the Australian Government’s Innovation Month 2017. I had the pleasure of facilitating a panel discussion on the topic of how to ‘make things happen’ in Government - which loosely translates to how to we transform Government to one that attracts top talents, is adaptable in the face of rapid change and uses its position to create more impact in society, rather than hide behind the veil of using taxpayer dollars as an excuses not to innovate which is incorrectly perceived as being risky (it is if you take few large bets instead of many small ones) and outsourcing accountability. Public sector spending in the Australian state of Victoria has almost doubled in the past 10 years, whereas in the private sector we see organisations like Netflix (entertainment), Khan Academy (education) and Minute Clinic (healthcare) achieving much more with much less in this time thanks to their ability to spot trends and opportunities and use emerging technologies to enable creating impact with less capital investment. Imagine a Government, with its wealth of resources, that moved just a little bit more like a Netflix? About our panelists: Jamie Skella Entrepreneur, futurist & strategist Jamie Skella is considered a thought leader in technology design, building and advising businesses across AI, blockchain, exports, and even future food.
