Williams Esports carries the distinction of being Wiliams Racing's only form of motorsport outside of Formula 1. The team competes in the pinnacle of single-seaters and racing esports. That's it.It shows just how intrinsically important virtual racing is to the Grove company, originally founded by Frank Williams in 1977.Now under Dorilton Capital stewardship, its esports squad is pushing the limits of what's achievable in sim racing – both in terms of the sheer quantity of events participated, but also driver training, education and media assistance. It's these three aspects we wanted to dive deeper into. Yes, the team has found success across platforms such as iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione and even Rocket League, but it's also investigating new ways of nurturing talent that pushes the whole environment forward.Joining us for this episode of the Traxion.GG Podcast are: Seb Hawkins - Team Manager, Williams Esports Steven English - Director of Esports, Williams Racing Ewan Lury - Esports Press Officer, Williams Esports Don't forget you can email podcast@traxion.gg if you have any questions about sim racing cockpits you'd like us to answer. If you'd like to hear more episodes like this one, please follow, like and subscribe on your podcast app of choice. Phil and Josh return for Episode 141 of the GSP and open with football news since Josh's Jacksonville Jaguars traded running back James Robinson prior to the show.  Josh goes off and that opens up a football discussion for both regarding their actual and fantasy teams.  NASCAR had a tripleheader at Homestead which saw Kyle Larson dominate and win but he sent Martin Truex, Jr. on pit road late in the race to assist in his victory.  With one race left before Phoenix, the likes of Chris Bell and Chase Briscoe are in must win situations while Ryan Blaney and Hamlin are in the mix points wise.  William Clyde Elliott II, William Byron and Ross Chastain currently hold the other three spots behind Joey Logano.  Issues for 23XI after showing great speed along with other big drivers but AJ Allmendinger continues to have success with six consecutive top 10's. Gagson won his 8th XFinity race of 2022 to lock himself into the XFinity championship race at Phoenix while Keebler Gibbs is in good shape points wise.  Allmendinger, Justin Allgaier and Austin Hill have a chance via points but Sam Mayer and Brandon Jones need a win.  Ty Majeski won his second race in the Round of 8 while teammate Ben Rhodes got an assist from the remainder of ThorSport to advance into the Final 4 with Zane and Chandler Smith. Formula 1 ran at Circuit of the Americas in front of a massive crowd and Lewis Hamilton led late into the US Grand Prix...but the usual result took place in the end.  Verstappen helped to win Red Bull their first Constructor's Title since 2013 on the weekend that Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz passed away.  The crew covers the race and all the movers heading into a doubleheader with Mexico.  The GSP Roundup gets into MotoGP/Moto2 at Phillip Island, WRC Rally Spain, WSBK in Argentina and previews of Supercars at Surfers Paradise and NHRA at Las Vegas which will see the debut of Tony Stewart in a Top Alcohol Dragster.  Phil and Josh preview and make picks for the F1 Grand Prix of Mexico along with NASCAR Cup and XFinity at Martinsville plus who advances.  Josh gives us all the news on the iRacing and gaming area with the Sim Segment before Show Close.

Back in September, the stock car racing world was turned upside down when the announcement was made that the 2023 NASCAR All-Star race would be held at the recently revived North Wilkesboro Speedway. On this week's episode of The Dale Jr. Download, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and co-host Mike Davis sit down with the man who helped make the decision, CEO and President of Speedway Motorsports Incorporated Marcus Smith. Devotees of The Download will recognize that this marks Smith's fifth appearance on the show, and his yearly check-in usually provides great insight into some of the upcoming projects in the NASCAR world. Much has changed since Marcus' last visit in May 2021, most notably the passing of his father Bruton, who was a major contributor to the racing world and founder of SMI. Marcus reflects on the difficult process of coming to terms with his father's declining health but is thankful that he lived a long life of 95 years. He also explains how his father got his start in car sales by running a used car lot on his mother's front lawn. Though he was eventually shut down by city officials, his knack for the industry eventually led to him forming Sonic Automotive, the fifth-largest automotive retailer in the country. The interview addresses the rumors surrounding the reconfiguration of Texas Motor Speedway. Dale and Marcus unpack the September Cup race held at the Fort Worth-based track and discuss what can be done to help boost attendance while keeping competitors and teams happy. Marcus explains that with the current grandstand set-up, there are limited changes that can be made to the track's actual configuration. However, alterations can be made to the speedway's profile, much like the recent reshaping of Atlanta Motor Speedway. In fact, with the help of iRacing, they've been able to model potential changes and test through simulation to see what effect they'd have on the racing product. The process was essential to the work done in Atlanta, and the results found in the trial runs were comparable to the actual Cup races held this season. In addition to the changes made to the racing surface at Atlanta, there have been talks of bringing a casino resort to the grounds in an effort to build up the area similar to that of Kansas Speedway. Marcus explains that in order for the plans to go through, there needs to be an amendment made to the Georgia state constitution that would allow for sports gambling, and encourages listeners and supporters of the speedway to be vocal to their local representatives. Another huge topic of discussion was the status of the Nashville Fairgrounds project. Those following along will remember that Dale and Marcus have been huge proponents in bringing NASCAR Cup racing back to the famed oval. Marcus makes clear that while they have been seemingly stuck in place for a while, progress is being made on the initiative.  A glimmer of hope in bringing relics of NASCAR's past back to life has been the return of North Wilkesboro Speedway. Dale and Marcus reflect on the huge success of the recent CARS Late Model Stock Car race at the track and fill listeners in on the changes and upgrades being made to the facility in anticipation of next year's All-Star event. Aside from additional seating being brought in, improvements are being made to the facilities, scoring system, retaining walls, and traffic flow.  The conversation also touches on NASCAR's ongoing television contract discussions and what it means for the tracks and the Race Team Alliance. Tune in for insight from one of the great minds and innovators in the motorsports industry regarding what it takes to run a speedway and what all parties can do to help the sport grow as a whole.  Check out northwilkesborospeedway.com for updates/details. Danica Patrick Pretty Intense Podcast

Denny Hamlin enters his 17th full season driving the #11 FedEx Toyota in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2022 with Joe Gibbs Racing and fourth-year crew chief Chris Gabehart. Hamlin has won 46 races in 578 career starts at stock-car racing's highest level since bursting onto the scene with two victories and “Rookie of the Year” honors in 2006. The 41-year-old Chesterfield, Va., native has scored 198 top-five and 305 top-10 finishes and contended in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs in 15 of 16 years behind the wheel of the #11 car. The FedEx Racing driver enjoyed a record-setting year in 2021, earning a career-high 25 top-10 finishes and leading a career-best 1,502 laps. He also tied his career high for top-five finishes with 19. Hamlin completed all but four of the season's 9,200 laps on the way to his first full season with no DNFs (Did Not Finish). He notched two wins on the way to making his third straight trip to the Championship 4 race, where he finished third in the standings. Hamlin kicked off the 2020 season with a Daytona 500 win, becoming only the fifth driver in NASCAR history to claim three victories in the “Great American Race.” He went on to score a total of seven wins on the season, advancing to the Championship 4 for the second consecutive year. He finished the year ranked fourth in the standings, compiling 18 top-five and 21 top-10 finishes. And, in an unusual season featuring a 10-week shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hamlin also excelled in an iRacing season from his at-home racing simulator, scoring two televised wins against his Cup Series competitors at virtual racetracks. 2019 was a statement season for Hamlin and rookie crew chief Gabehart. After registering no wins in 2018, the veteran driver rebounded in forceful fashion to score six wins on the year, including his second Daytona 500 victory. Hamlin's successful 2019 season also included 19 top-five and 24 top-10 finishes – both career season-highs – and three Busch Pole Awards. He capped off the year with a Championship 4 berth in the season-finale race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, where he drove to a fourth-place finish in the point standings. Hamlin boasts an impressive 33 career poles, the second-highest record among active Cup Series drivers. Hamlin collected 10 top-five and 17 top-10 finishes during the 2018 season that earned him an 11th-place finish in the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series standings. He added four Coors Light Pole Awards to his résumé, including a first-place starting spot for the Series' finale race at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the second-consecutive year. Hamlin jumpstarted his 2017 campaign by collecting his third career Duel victory (2008, 2014) during Daytona “Speedweeks,” eventually scoring two more regular season wins after dominating performances at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and Darlington Raceway. He also added two Coors Light Pole Awards to his season accomplishments – one at Charlotte Motor Speedway during the Playoffs and one during the season-finale race weekend at Homestead-Miami. Overall, Hamlin tied career-bests with 15 top-five and 22 top-10 finishes en route to finishing sixth in the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series standings. His 2016 season began triumphantly when he claimed the prestigious Daytona 500 win – his first-ever Daytona victory – in a historic finish, edging out Martin Truex Jr. by .01 seconds. Hamlin went on to score two more wins.

As NASCAR gets ready to celebrate its 75th year of existence in 2023, its premiere division the Cup Series will set out on its most versatile schedule to date. On this week's episode of The Dale Jr. Download, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and co-host Mike Davis sit down with one of the visionaries responsible for the swift transformation the sport of stock car racing has seen over the last few seasons, NASCAR's Senior VP of Racing Development & Strategy Ben Kennedy. Born and raised in Daytona Beach, Ben is a fourth-generation member of NASCAR's founding France family, the son of Lesa France Kennedy and great-grandson of Bill France Sr. While he is only 30 years old, he has been around the sport his entire life in many capacities, from working odd jobs at Daytona International to being in the driver's seat and owning his own race team. His unique insight and experience have allowed him to rapidly rise through the NASCAR executive ranks, originally taking a position as the General Manager of the Trucks Series in 2018. With the incorporation of the Chicago street race and the Clash at the Coliseum, as well as returning to North Wilkesboro and the Bristol dirt race, the stock car racing mainstay has gone leaps and bounds from its original vision in 1948, while keeping its fundamentals in place. Ben explains that much of the decision to hold events like the street race or the Coliseum was based on wanting to connect to city centers where NASCAR has a large fan base while doing something out of the box, original to the sanctioning body itself. During his time with the NASCAR Operations team, Ben learned a lot about NASCAR's international fanbase and what efforts are being made to help grow it. While the majority of racing circuits overseas are road course configurations, the team began looking into building temporary oval tracks in stadiums or arenas to help display stock car racing in its original form. He explains that this is what put the L.A. Coliseum on their radar as a potential venue to house such a production. He also goes on to talk about the conception of the Chicago street course and how the team settled on Grant Park as a location. The team originally visited Soldier Field as a possible setting for the Clash event. But due to the current configuration of the field, the potential racing surface would be far too small, thus leading to the event being moved to Los Angeles. However, thanks to Grant Park's ability to facilitate a large number of spectators, as seen with Lollapalooza every year, the focus turned to creating a street course. With the help of iRacing's scanning system, they were able to bring a realistic render to life and test it with a cast of NASCAR Cup stars last year. Earlier in the interview, the trio discusses what Ben's life was like growing up in Daytona and his interests before entering the motorsports world. In 2007, Ben tragically lost his father Dr. Bruce Kennedy in a plane crash, and he and Dale were able to bond over the shock of losing a loved one suddenly. Ben first got behind the wheel of a race car at age 14 when a family friend signed him up for a go-kart course held at New Smyrna Speedway. Ben fell in love with the sport immediately and in the years that followed he quickly progressed through the local Central Florida short track divisions into the regional NASCAR ranks, before finally arriving in the Trucks Series. After having a breakout season in 2014 and making his Xfinity Series debut a couple of seasons later, Ben retired from racing at the end of the 2017 season to begin his journey through the business side of the organization. A link to the episode is: https://tinyurl.com/DJAlessandrini If you would like to help grow our sport and this podcast: You can subscribe to our podcast on the podcast provider of your choice, including the Apple podcast app, Google music, Amazon, and YouTube etc. Also, if you could give our podcast a (5-star?) rating, that we would appreciate that very much.  Even better, a podcast review, would help us to grow the passion and sport of high performance driving and we would appreciate it. Tonight on Trackside, Kevin Lee and Curt Cavin open the show talking about possible scenarios next weekend at Laguna Seca and where Portland left the championship standings. They discuss Scott McLaughlin's performance and his quick rise into contention in IndyCar. Kevin and Curt also discuss the level of driving and how it led to a clean race at a place that usually sees a lot of cars off the track. To round out the Portland conversation, they discuss the rest of the grid including Scott Dixon's third place finish. Our News of the Day, brought to you by the Indianapolis Speedrome and Circle City Raceway, is a Road to Indy recap from this weekend's action in USF2000, Indy Pro 2000 and Indy Lights. In the second hour, Kevin starts the second half of the show with Twitter questions from the audience. Then, Silly Season is the topic of conversation headlined by Colton Herta and the possibility of him having a seat in the Formula 1 grid in 2023. Kevin goes deeper into why American drivers are valuable in F1 and why a successful IndyCar driver in F1 might not be the best thing. Then, we discuss who might get the third seat for Arrow McLaren SP next year and more 2023 lineup possibilities. To round out the show, sports car driver Jon Morley joins the program to discuss Race for RP, a charity focused on autoimmune disease, and an iRacing event to raise money for the foundation. Kevin and Jon talk about how he got involved with the foundation and the journey to an event as big as this eRace. The conversation concludes with the drivers Jon raced against in the early stages of his career.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
