Across most of the whitetail's range, a November rut is the norm. This is because historical climate conditions dictate that fawns must be born during a specific window in order to survive. But across much of the south, this isn't so. In fact, depending on where you are, you might see whitetails breeding during any month of the year! What has created such strange rut timing in the southern US? In this episode of the Southern Way Hunting Podcast, host Josh Raley talks with Lindsay Thomas Jr. of the National Deer Association about why the rut time is so varied in the Deep South. The guys cover it all, from photoperiod, to stocking deer, to buck/doe ratios. They even get into a conversation about CWD and what hunters in the south should learn from states like Wisconsin that are on the brink of a major deer herd disaster. Enjoy! On this episode of the SG+T podcast, Rick is joined by Josh Raley of Whitetail Partners and the Sportsmen's Empire Podcast network. Josh is a jack of all trades when it comes to the whitetail world and brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. As a Wildlife Habitat Consultant for Whitetail Partners, Josh understands what deer like and why they do what they do. Through his work with Sportsmen's Empire, he hosts multiple podcasts including the How to Hunt Deer, Wisconsin Sportsman and The Southern Way shows and brings perspective not only from his own hunting experiences, but also from the numerous guests he's shared a microphone with. If you listen to hunting podcasts, it's a pretty safe bet that you've heard him along the way.He and Rick have a similar background, both growing up in Alabama and then moving away, having to adjust their approach to hunting. Josh now lives in Georgia, and while he hunts some close to home, like Rick he takes an annual trip to the midwest during the November rut, and then spends the rest of the year making short trips to Bama. The guys cover a lot on this episode, but focus on the balancing act that comes with a busy hunting schedule, the mental gymnastics that take place after their trips to the midwest, and the perspective that they believe most hunters should share. This one was a lot of fun and Josh brings several tips that could set any southern hunter up for success on an out of state trip...you don't want to miss this one!As always, a big thanks to all of the listeners for your support. When emotional attachment is present with a hunting property, it can become difficult to implement the correct habitat improvements without some guidance. Trying to learn on your own is possible, but can also be costly. It's not uncommon to install food plots, road systems, or implement logging, only to realize later the practice was placed in the wrong section of the property, or even implemented wrong. It's overwhelming compiling habitat improvement recommendations, especially if you take into account multiple professional opinions. If you're considering having a habitat specialist consult your property, it's important that you work with someone you trust and has strong communication skills to reach your desired goals. . On this week's episode of the Pennsylvania Woodsman Podcast, we chat with Josh Raley. Josh is the host of the How to Hunt Deer Podcast, Wisconsin Sportsman Podcast, and also a property consultant with Whitetail Partners in Georgia. Josh has a wide range of deer hunting experience throughout the country and understands how to manipulate property in an advantageous manner. We discuss setting goals and objectives for a property, assessing where the highest priorities lie for improvements, and dive into a host of habitat project topics. Josh explains the misunderstood aspects of hinge cutting, hunting access, invasive species management, and other private land habitat strategy. We wrap up discussing what we as landowners and managers can be doing right now to improve the landscape. It's time for some sweat equity! Hey everyone, welcome to episode 159 of the Antler Up Podcast! On this week's episode Dimitri and I were joined by Josh Raley from the How to Hunt Deer Podcast and the Wisconsin Sportsman Podcast. Both of these podcasts air on the Sportsmen's Empire on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Josh was a great guest to have on our show and we really enjoyed this chat! We dove down some gear rabbit holes in this one. So, if you are into that type of stuff, I believe you will enjoy this one! Josh was able to attend his first ATA show this past January and he shared with us some of the items that he really liked from the show and then some gear that he really enjoyed using this past hunting season. We then discuss how things are really evolving when it comes to hunting gear. Really pushing the limits for maximizing how efficient our bows are, the mobile gear we use and everything else. This was a fun topic to chat about because everyone is going to use different gear for all aspects I just mentioned. So, it was great to hear what Josh's and Dimitri's take was on the trends of hunting gear and where it is heading. We wrap up the episode having Josh talk about his success during this past hunting season and what all went into that. From there we get into some postseason strategy as well. I hope you enjoyed this episode and if you are heading to the GAOS make sure to stop by the Tethrd booth on the weekend to say hi! On this episode of the Hunting Gear Podcast, Dan is once again joined by Josh Raley to discuss a hand full of hunting accessories that are often overlooked but are very important. Dan and Josh share their thoughts about hunting accessories like screw-in hooks, bow holders, and bow ropes. The guys talk about their opinions on quality and how products made from junk material don't last long. Later in the episode the two talk about their experience with headlamps and hand warmers, and the different varieties that they come in. Although these products are not sexy or often talked about, take them out of your pack and try hunting without them. Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

When this episode drops, there are only 71 days remaining before Pennsylvania's statewide archery season opens. Season preparation is in full swing for many diehards and the anticipation is creeping up. That also means the time of year is approaching when sportsmen and women are spending less time at home with family. How do you handle the balance between your outdoor passion and family time? On this week's episode we chat with Josh Raley, a fellow Sportsmen's Empire contributor for the Wisconsin Sportsman and How to Hunt Deer Podcasts. Josh faces the same dilemma's as anyone. He is a husband, a father, and a faithful follower of the Lord, but also crazy about chasing whitetail deer and turkeys whenever humanly possible. Josh shares with us some of his journey which led him to where he is now and how those learning experiences have molded him into the hunter, father, husband, and believer that he is today. There is a lot left to be said from Josh, as he is no stranger to chasing whitetails across the country and we look forward to having him back for more deer hunting conversations!
