In this second part of our two-part special on football hooliganism, co-hosts Jonathan Wilson and Rob Draper trace the roots of football violence from the 1890s through to its transformation into organised ‘firms' in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. They discuss the origins of the word ‘hooligan', early crowd disorder and FA crackdowns, and how post-war prosperity, youth subcultures, away travel and ‘taking ends' helped create a new kind of fan conflict. Show Notes Huge, Immersive World We want to discuss how Cyberpunk feels oddly familiar…like, even with all the over-the-top-ness of the ads, the violence, etc, the concepts are familiar because we are sort of living in it right now. I have THOUGHTS on this.  ( we were raised on Star Wars, or Trek, Or Harry Potter, and Cyberpunk. Which of those actually gives you a blueprint for today?) Exploration of the sights, sounds, and in world storytelling is deep. I have played several times and still discover something new when I have another playthrough. Ignore the main quest, focus on the small stuff THe main quest is pretty great, but there is SO MUCH small stuff that it is a lot of fun on replayed to focus on different small sidequests and details.  One criticism: you can max out your level and such fairly early by doing this. I'd love a mod that lets you keep levelling up.  Multiple starts Latest editions of the game added some RPG lines specific for each start, which was good. I'm not sure they made a difference in the overall story plot, but it was good from an immersive RPG standpoint.  Great being able to play the game for the 4th? 5th? time and still get a new experience when going the Corpo route. Multiple endings Yep, and even the ones for Phantom Liberty are noteworthy.  And can be very noir – endings that are not tidy. Or even truly happy.  So Many Toys… So Much Lore The texts you find, the documents you read in the side quests, they often reference other sidequests or jobs.  There is a ton of lore you can learn if that's your thing.  The old just won't leave us. It tells a good story. It brings into question what we are here for and how we leave this life. When I think about this game, I think a lot of the joyful/rageful defiance that informs Punk.  The question “How does one live when all signs point to being trod upon and powerless?” comes up, and Cyberpunk (fiction in general) often answers this with that defiance, usually in the scenery or side characters.  Usually it means breaking the law, but in this situation where the law is corrupt and unjust, it is easy to see why that decision is made.  I believe this dovetails into my earlier thoughts about CP being familiar on a level.  Mods: Dark Future mod for Cyberpunk 2077 DayDream Gaming Night City Videos 36 Streets Featured Image Meta Edgerunner artwork from Cyberpunk 2077.

Ceux qui ont assisté à la première apparition de Chrissie Hynde à la télé dans le clip de Brass in Pocket fin 1979 - début 80, savent de quoi je parle : on a été charmé, à défaut d'avoir été vachement ému. Mais ce qu'on ignore bien sûr à cette époque, c'est que la serveuse qu'elle incarne pour illustrer cette magnifique chanson qui nous tombe dessus comme une révélation, c'est que ce n'est pas un rôle de composition.Car Chrissie a bien travaillé dans l'horeca. Vous voyez ces rades, restos routiers, genre Breakfast in America, avec ces femmes en tablier blanc sur une robe rouge avec un filet dans les cheveux, donnant du “vous le voulez à la fraise ou à la banane votre milk shake ? Grand, moyen ou petit ?” Oh et bien sûr, au fil des jobs dans la ville universitaire de Kent dans l'Ohio dont elle a aussi fréquenté les bancs, elle a aussi connu la “jupe noire et chemise blanche” où là, c'était : “votre steak, à point ou saignant ?”.Chrissie était étudiante en art, enfin un peu, mais elle rêvait surtout d'une chose : l'Angleterre. Ça peut paraître fou pour une Américaine, la terre d'Elvis Presley et Bill Haley mais depuis les années 60, la capitale du rock, c'est Londres. Et c'est surtout les filles qui en rêvent pour une bonne raison. Chrissie a ainsi au milieu des années 60 possédé tout le brol de produits dérivés que les Amerloques ont créés autour des Beatles. Elle a tout jeté à la poubelle lors de ses 16 ans comme d'autres générations l'ont fait avec les Spice Girls ou les Pokemon. Et même si elle le regrette aujourd'hui, elle n'a par contre pas raté son rendez-vous avec ses rêves d'adolescente. A l'âge de 21 ans, elle est partie.Arriver à Londres en 1973, pour une Américaine, c'est un choc. Premièrement, il faut apprendre à être poli avec les commerçants, on dit d'abord bonjour comment ça va, et puis s'il vous plaît aussi. On ne demande pas la salle de bains pour aller aux toilettes, le métro, c'est un tube. Et puis aussi, les gens sont tous minces, les parents écoutent la même musique pop que les mômes dans les pubs, on n'y vend pas de vin ni de Tequila mais de la bière crèmeuse ou du whisky. Et puis c'est là qu'on va commencer à l'appeler Chrissie au lieu de Christine ou Chris.Par contre, où sont passées toutes les filles en mini jupes couleurs flashy et les mecs en costards hyper chics, les Mods, les psychédéliques ? Chrissie est arrivée trop tard pour voir l'Angleterre qu'elle avait rêvée étant ado en regardant les photos dans les magazines. Les Beatles ne sont plus là, les filles sont amoureuses de chanteurs glam rock comme Gary Glitter et Slade mais attention, pas de garçons dans les colocs après 22 heures ! Mais bon, malgré le décalage avec l'Amérique, Chrissie adore la ville qu'elle découvre. Les gens surtout. On peut devenir ami avec quelqu'un en parlant à un arrêt de bus, comme ça ! Et attention, c'est une vraie conversation, pas un étalage de phrases convenues, comme dans son pays d'origine. Non, vraiment, si un Américain à Paris, c'est fait depuis longtemps, une Américaine à Londres, ça commence aujourd'hui. Chrissie va entrer partout, fréquenter et jouer avec les membres des Kinks, des Clash ou futurs Culture Club, bref, elle va être la petite fiancée des punks, autant dire qu'elle ne verra pas souvent son lit.

This episode kicks off on a personal note as I pay tribute to Adam the Woo — sharing with Ron and the chat how his videos inspired my own journey into content creation and what his work still means to me today. We dive into some powerful moments from Adam's travels, including his visits to Randy Rhoads' grave and the Randy Rhoads plane crash site — must-see spots for any rock fan. From there, it's music news, breaking down a story about KISS, Kiss may be finished with touring, but guitarist Tommy Thayer says the band's story isn't over yet. Following their recent appearances at the Kiss Kruise event in Las Vegas, Thayer told MusicRadar that the shows were a success and hinted at more to come. “Fan events like this are great, and we'll probably do more,” Thayer said, adding that it felt natural playing together again after nearly two years. While full tours are off the table, he teased that “there's a lot in the works” behind the scenes. Thayer also didn't rule out new music, saying the band still has “a lot of great ideas and a desire to keep creating.” He pointed to Kiss's avatar project as an example of how the band is embracing new technology and future possibilities. Thayer joined Kiss full-time in 2002 after Ace Frehley's departure and remained with the band through their final tour, which ended at Madison Square Garden in 2023. Although Frehley and drummer Peter Criss were originally expected to appear at the farewell show, those plans ultimately fell through. Then straight to the workbench

On this episode of Straturday Night, we kicked things off by diving deep into the music business, sharing real-world experiences from playing in bands, touring, and working inside the recording studio. From there, we took it straight to the workbenches. Ron got hands-on with his Charvel, installing a Lollar Pickup in the neck position—after already dropping one into the bridge on a previous show. Meanwhile, I gave one of my Stratocasters a subtle but classy upgrade, swapping the white single-coil pickup covers for parchment. And yeah… I'm officially hooked on the parchment look. Once the mods were done, it was time to plug in and play. I demoed a handful of pedals, starting with the ZVEX Instant Lo-Fi Junky, delivering those beautifully warbly, lo-fi textures—almost chorus-like, but with its own quirky vibe. Next up was my favorite fuzz of all time, the ZVEX Fuzz Factory, bringing the chaos, sustain, and raw attitude. I also spent some time getting weird—in the best way—with my BOSS PC-2 Percussion Synthesizer, and wow, this pedal is a trip. It's a seriously interesting early '80s unit that delivers a wide range of highly adjustable, synth-like percussion sounds that instantly bring to mind classic Atari video games and old-school arcade vibes. Super retro, super quirky, and unlike just about anything else on a pedalboard today. It added a totally unexpected, nostalgic twist to the jams and showed just how far ahead of its time this pedal really was.
