Matt Parker plays bass like a guy who read the manual and then set it on fire for warmth. We talk the strange magic of the Bass VI: why the new Squier Classic Vibe fixes the old headaches, and which mods turn wobble into weapon. Matt rolls through rigs like a responsible maniac: Ashdown heads into a 6x10 for moving air, the LB-30 with built-in load for civilised neighbors, and a Valeton GP-200 LT fly rig that costs less than a boutique patch cable yet somehow slaps. We rant about in-ears and keeping your hearing, praise vintage instruments for having the good kind of problems, reminisce about the Metal Zone, and argue whether the Hofner looks classy or like a violin cosplaying as a lunchbox. There is also pizza. Of course there is pizza. Bass VI as desert island instrument, studio Swiss Army knife, and riff enabler. Come for the bass. Stay for the sustain. You are gonna love this one! What the heck is Keith Richards doing on the Rolling Stones' "Empty Heart"? If you know him, ask him. The tune is a down n dirty bluesy number from the band's early days and even Ian Stewart gets in on the action. Thee Midniters did a groovy rendition in '65 - but are the happy horns too much? Later that same year The First Four covered the tune and hoo-boy! is it garagey!! Totally rockin' - and we rename the whole band to fit their sound ... Prepare for FUZZ! when Florida's The Mods get their clean hands on the song. The lead singer has some lung power! The Wallflower Complexion had three guitarists and two of 'em are noodlin' all over their version, but all you need is that string-slingin' rhythm guitarist ... The Laughing Kind put out a weird take on the song that kinda sounds like The Hombres and features FUZZ Organ!! No stick!!

This week on Rennthusiast Radio, Derek flies solo while Will recovers from minor shoulder surgery. To keep the momentum going, we're pulling one of our most popular episodes from the archives — all about the essential Porsche modifications that truly make a difference in performance, drivability, and even resale value. Before jumping in, Derek shares updates from both YouTube channels:Will's latest video on upgrading the exhaust of his Guards Red 997.2 with a Darren Pfister system from FD Motorsports, transforming the car's famously muted sound into something far more exciting.Derek's deep dive into the incredible Deman GT4 build, where Rick Deman takes a Cayman GT4 to the next level with a 4.5L engine upgrade, shorter gearing, and a visceral, almost air-cooled muscle-car feel.Plus, Derek teases what's coming soon: Will's two (!) new Porsches, more GT4 talk, and Derek's impressions after driving a 992.1 Carrera T — a car Will once sold quickly, but Derek found surprisingly enjoyable.Whether you're a new listener or a long-time Porsche enthusiast, this episode revisits one of our most practical and fan-favorite discussions: the best mods to unlock the true soul of your Porsche. There's so much going on this week so we packed it all into one episode. First up, Neal and Stumpy John took an adventure ride up to the Lost Coast in N. Cali. Everything up there is either ocean, redwoods, pot farms or vineyards, so you know the ride was epic. Next up, we spent the weekend down at Laguna Seca for the MotoAmerica races. For some of us, we've been going for years, so we focus on test riding bikes and all the things the races have to offer. For Jake 2.0, it being his first time to the races AND Laguna Seca, it was all amazing. We share our test ride stories on the CF Moto 450 Ibex, 800 Ibex and the Papeo. And Jake talks about seeing the corkscrew up close, and then what it's like to experience on the track. Liza introduces a new game called Wrong Answers Only, and pretty much regrets it immediately. Steph just got back from the Mods and Rockers rally, where scooterists and bikers all get along. Chris shares has stories on returning from the Scooter Cannonball. As a long distance IBR rider, did he have what it takes to do it on a scooter? And lastly, we read listener emails and answer some questions. with Liza, Stumpy John, Neal, Jake 2.0, Naked Jim, Bagel, Chris Comly and Steph Yue. www.motorcyclesandmisfits.com motorcyclesandmisfits@gmail.com www.patreon.com/motorcyclesandmisfits www.zazzle.com/store/recyclegarage www.youtube.com/channel/UC3wKZSP0J9FBGB79169ciew https://womenridersworldrelay.com/ adifferentagenda.com/products/the-lost-tribe-25 motorcyclesandmisfits.com/shop Join our Discord at discord.gg/hpRZcucHCT

We're almost at the end of our 1977 series, but in true LITM fashion why have just one show on a topic when you could have two? Across this and the next episode we'll be filling in a few gaps we haven't touched on so far, and providing some broad economic and political scene-setting for this seminal year in both Britain and the States. In this episode we hear about the emergent neoliberal order, the oil crisis, austerity then and now, and OPEC. Jeremy and Tim consider escapism in music and film, Punk, Mods, the Silver Jubilee and the decline of the British Empire. They discuss the mighty Paul Weller, the Sex Pistols, Alice in Wonderland, and dig deep into the crates for the James Bond theme as you've never heard it before...Next time we'll be looking to America for our final show of this run.Do check out the podcasts Jem shouts out in end notes of this show. Welcome to episode #22 featuring an exceptional track list. I've got a new feature I'm trying out, tracing the roots of current mod bands and bands obviously heavily influenced by mod music. So for this episode I've got The Who, The Jam & Green Day. [Originally aired August 2007 on Mistersuave.com] To set the scene here's a passage from Mr. Suave's First Epistle to the Mods.Chapter 1 Verse 1: In the beginning was The Who and the mods knew it was good. It was loud and brash and full of danceable rhythm. Verse 2: The Who begat the Jam and the punks and mods knew it was good. It was fast and it was soulful. Verse 3: The Jam begat Green Day. And the punks and the mods and the masses finally all opened their ears and knew it was good. It was loud, and brash, and fast. And ultimately they showered it with silver and gold. Welcome to Spitting Nonsense—where two self-proclaimed amateurs, Jasmine and Zach, chat about all things nerdy (and plenty that's not). None of this is fact, but it's definitely our brand of nonsense! We're still recording regularly—no promises on hitting exact days anymore—but you can always count on us for plenty of off-the-wall commentary. And now, you can leave comments on Spotify! Tell us what's on your mind; we see every comment and might even respond on the show. Thanks for listening, and enjoy the nonsense!
