Weston, Caleb and Jared made the 15 hour drive from central Florida to join Dan on his hunting properties to experience what midwestern whitetail hunting is all about. After several close encounters and first time experiences for each of the guys, the four of them discuss the differences in hunting Missouri vs. Florida. Between stories of glassing sessions, all day sits and even naps in the field this episode is one for the books. The three out of staters came in pursuit of a 120+ inch buck and left with memories they will never forget. After some serious first day action they knew this would be a trip that would happen year after year and the crew sits down to make plans for years to come. The guys also discuss the value of learning deer patterns and movement on a new chunk of property and in terrain they have never hunted before. November 7 was off the chain with deer movement. Lots of small bucks chasing does all over the place. All day sit 11.5 hours no shooters but its getting better.
Todays morning movement was good 4 does and 3 bucks. The afternoon was very slow and only seen 1 doe. Sitting at 48 hours on stand now. The morning temp is gonna be good. so hopefull for a good hunt in the morning.
Day 8 started out with 50mph winds in the morning. I took the morning off and got out about 2pm. Didnt see any movement till last light when nice 8 point came out. Not a target buck but still a cool to get the encounter. The night ended with 3 does.
Ep. 7 November 4th I almost killed. a public land buck. Went in on public this morning and had a close call with a real solid buck. i ended up hunting booner town in the evening after having the wrong wind at the urban piece.
Today, November 4 2022, was actually not a bad day. I did not see a ton of deer, but I did see deer. I got away from my cameras and set up where I suspected the travel to be, and I was right for the most part. Bad winds forced me from the tree early this morning, after a 1.5 year old spike busted me at 30 yards. I figured if he did it, the big one would also. I scouted for a bit with my setup on my back ready to go, and found a few more active scrapes, but also found a treestand and cell camera. I hunted a small ridge for about an hour before the sky looked like it was getting angry, but I didn't see any cruisers in that location. I figure, the other guys can have that spot for now but I will continue my scouting until I find THE spot. Tonight's setup was playing off of camera data from this morning, a late morning cruiser headed towards a bedding area I suspect he may be using. I was debating on staying home, but the radar showed the rain would clear up around 5 and it would just be a little breezy after. I packed up and headed out around 3, headed upwind of the bedding area. At 5:15 I turned and saw a deer moving down a small path, honestly the same one I walked in on an hour earlier. I instantly saw a rack even at 75 yards, and I could see it definitely wasn't small. But that buck left my life just as soon as he walked into it, not having a care in the world about my grunts OR rattling antlers. Tomorrow doesn't look like a safe day in the woods but the alarm is set anyways. If I wake up to good weather I will be headed out again, otherwise Sunday morning looks like it could be the best day, my LAST day of rutcation.. so I plan to get in the woods early and sit as long as I can. Thank you all for listening and best of luck if you make it out this weekend! Predator Hunter Outdoors HuntWise ORC Archery SiOnyx
Today is Day 6 November 3rd. Slow movement all day morning and evening. We still spent 9 hours on stand today and enjoyng the moment. Still can kill but with this weather its hard.

Thursday, November 3 2022...day 7 of my 2022 Rutcation. I cant help but feel like I wasted time this whole week. Not that the hunting was a waste, I love it too much out there. But the back and forth, skip around a few miles at a time and try to find deer..when I've seen deer in certain areas, multiple times. Why can't I talk myself into hunting SIGN like I always did before. Instead my mind is always saying "Well yesterday there was a buck on that ridge so go sit there". So like an idiot I go chasing information that is already DONE. It happened. I was not there when it happened but had I have been there, that buck would be in my freezer. This morning, Mike and I were sitting the edge of the small grass field where just yesterday I watched 4 different bucks chasing a doe, or cruising the edge. That was YESTERDAY. But we went chasing it again this morning. The outcome? 0 deer seen. Mike unfortunately found out that he had a split in his bow limb, and decided to go back home so he could get it to the shop. Tonight I decided to scout with my setup on my back, just like I always have. Find the sign, hunt the sign and give that fresh sign 2 hunts. Although tonight did not work out, I found the sign. And my setup is already in the tree for me to sneak back into nice and early on the morning of November 4. Thank you all so much for listening, I hope you all are having good luck while out hunting! In this episode Cody and Adam are in deer camp. (An unsuccessful one). We talk all things equipment, new hires, things that are moving and things that are slowing us down. Tune in to another great episode
Todays I didnt hunt I decided to take a mental day and get some stuff done around house. My oldest kid had a fever so I stayed with him all day. Ended up shootig my bow, pulling some cams on the edge and the cams are slow with the heat. Im going back hard tommorrow hunting all day. I also have Ryan glitsky on to talk about how his ruts going.
Mike Luttrull joins me tonight to talk about tomorrows plans. Wednesday November 2 was a much better day in the woods. The deer were active and the bucks were out looking, however I was mainly on a mission to SEE a shooter buck so I could move in on the next attempt. It worked, as I was able to lay eyes on one I would gladly bring home to the family at around 10:45, cruising the edge of a small field 3 other bucks had been in earlier in the morning. We laid eyes on a giant on the way home at 12:30, however we need a day of scouting to figure out the piece of property before we just blow in and ruin our chances before the day even begins. Mike will be joining me for the morning hunt and he is looking to fill the freezer, so we are hopeful that the deer will be moving again tomorrow. Temps are extremely high for typical November weather, but I don't think the deer care about the temps that much right now. Thank you all so much for listening and check back again tomorrow for the next update! Predator Hunter Outdoors HuntWise ORC Archery SiOnyx
This episode I talk about Nov 1st. This morning I encountered a target buck I call Joe Joe. He worked back and I had a good idea where he was bedding. I decided to go back in on him and I misses him at 42 yards. I hit a tree branch and sent that arrow way over him. Im devistated to say the least but thats hunting. Just gonna keep hunting and hope I have another encounter.
I was able to be in a tree 3 times the last 36 hours. Halloween morning as well as the entire day of November 1st. I find myself struggling chasing trail cameras and scouting less, but I need to make a change to that system. I know where some doe have been using every morning, and I have tried to use that to my advantage, but a mistake in my setup in the morning of Nov 1 may have ruined my chance at a solid buck, but we will never know. Scrape activity the last 2 days has appeared to drop, deer are still crossing by them but not re opening them. Did hear some chasing tonight right at last light, and had one come in as I was packing up my gear after the hunt, but I don't know what it was. Tomorrow I think will be the coldest morning all week, so I may be packing a lunch and sitting later depending on movement I have seen. I plan to go hunt another section where I do have cameras, but won't be near them so I can break my bad habit. I know there are deer in this section but I haven't narrowed them down yet. I guess that is the story of all the spots I hunt though. I will check in again tomorrow night, unless something keeps me out extra late! Thank you all for listening! Predator Hunter Outdoors HuntWise ORC Archery SiOnyx
November is finally here!!! This episode I cover my morning Halloween hunt and trick or treating tonight. I also cover my plans for tommorrow morning. im going to hunt a pinch point working back into doe bedding in the morning. Going after the bent G2 buck or the Great 8. I called my good friend Tony from 33Oh Archery to see how his hunting has been in Ohio.
Ep.2 of the rutcation podcast. In this episode I cover where I hunted this morning and my plans for the tomorrow morning. Gonna be trick or treating tommorow evening so no hunting. I also call Matt Bartlett to see what he thinks the bucks are doing and how the hunting has been for him.
Todays rutcation report shows a little better movement, but not from the bigger bucks. Scrapes showed less activity today but the little bucks were chasing pretty decent in the evening. Still seeing a few doe out feeding without being harassed. Still hearing reports around the state of good bucks being taken while chasing doe, but I believe we are still a few days from the really good stuff. Thank you all so much for taking the time to listen! Please make sure to check out Predator Hunter Outdoors, HuntWise, ORC Archery and SiOnyx
Rutcation report 10-29-22 Very little activity for us today, we did see a small buck chasing 2 doe around at 10:45 am and I saw 1 doe by herself at 7:55. Scrapes were active overnight, but none were active today in daylight. Multiple reports of bucks chasing hard around the state and some very nice deer being taken. Finished the day butchering and canning Thursday nights doe. Thank you all for listening! I hope you enjoy your time in the outdoors! Predator Hunter Outdoors HuntWise ORC Archery SiOnyx
Today is the first episode of the rutcation podcast series. I talk to you about the plans for the series, my hunt this morning and plans for tommorows hunt. Thank you for tuning in to the Southern Ground Hunting Podcast. This week Parker and his buddy Cody Phillips are recapping one of the best “Rutcation” hunting trips that Parker has had the opportunity to take. Parker and his dad loaded up the kayaks, the bass tracker, and their camping gear last week, in hopes of getting on two respectable Alabama public land bucks. Everything fell perfectly into place, the stars aligned, and they completed their goals. Parker goes into detail about the tactics that were used, and how he believes that using “beast” tactics is what killed these bucks. These two bucks are a great testament to the phrase “Hard Work Pays Off”. Pre Season scouting, cyber scouting with OnX, & knowing the right time to be in the woods is imperative to being successful on high pressured public land. You can get lucky every once in a while, but to consistently kill good bucks is truly something that takes a lot of dedication. Hopefully this podcast inspires and motivates you to get out there and make it happen in your own neck of the woods. Topics Discussed: Hunting Beast tactics 223 not being a great caliber for deer High Pressure public land First Time sits Hunting with your dad Water access Saddle Hunting Applications: If you want to kill mature bucks, hunt like a beast. www.thehuntingbeast.com To kill mature bucks you will likely not see a lot of deer, but the ones you see will be the ones you want to kill.
