Ep 089: In our meetings with retirees, they sometimes express to us that they feel lost. What previously gave them purpose in their career was no longer there and they sometimes lack motivation to get up, get out of the house, and embrace life. Questions such as “who am I?”, “What should I do with my time?” and “What next?” occupy their thoughts. So how do we go about answering these questions and finding ourselves in this next chapter? How do we reinvent ourselves now that we have time to do so? That's what this episode helps answer! Our next guest had a 37-year career as a probation officer. Since retiring, she has become an actress, author, public speaker, and blogger. She has appeared in television, film, commercials, theater, and print jobs. Her transition to becoming an actress in her senior years has been written about in Time Magazine, the Los Angeles Times newspaper, AARP, and in Marlo Thomas' 2014 book, It Ain't Over…Till It's Over, which profiles different women who have reinvented themselves. Please welcome Lee Gale Gruen to The Retirement Success in Maine Podcast! Chapters: Welcome, Lee Gale Gruen! [1:51] How did it feel (for Lee Gale) that day when she was forever done with her job? [12:38] What do retirees struggle with around their own personal happiness? [18:27] What was the journey like going through acting classes with her father? [20:45] What is the secret to retirement? [31:16] What's next for Lee Gale? [42:50] Episode conclusion. [45:05]
Today on Feminine Roadmap we are talking about finding joy and purpose after retirement. When Lee Gale Gruen retired after a 37 year career as a probation officer, she felt adrift. Without any guide she began to forge a path for herself and by accident ended up in an acting class that she admits she wouldn't have joined had she known. What started as an accident lead to a fulfilling reinvention as an actress, finally unlocking her fear of standing in front of an audience. Not only did it change her life but after her mother died it changed her 85 year old grieving father's life. Lee Gale wrote a memoir recounting that unexpected journey and turned her mission toward helping others find joy and purpose in retirement. She realized that she could offer others what she had needed, a compass to navigate this new, uncharted season of life. Her refreshing take on the shift from being driven and competitive to being purpose driven brings a sense of ease and joy to daily living. Lee Gale encourages listeners to be curious, try new things, experiment and stay curious. Allow yourself to try many different things until you find what lights you up. She wants listeners to know that is just a shift, you still have worth, value and you still have a lot to contribute. Grab a cuppa something wonderful and be inspired to find joy and purpose after retirement.
This week Adam and Pete welcome Lee Gale from The Longcut on the podcast. Lee is also from Kippax and having been in bands growing up, also formed a band that went on to make quite an Impact. Hitting heights such as going out to Japan to play Fuji rock, enjoying critical acclaim and also playing alongside The Music at the Astoria in London. It was fascinating to discuss parallels with our own personal experiences of being In bands. Hope you all enjoy it.
This short form podcast is a few snippets from an episode I did with one of my best mates earlier this year (episode 12). Jesse has transitioned from a party boy to dedicating his life to fitness and is about to take on the biggest challenge of his life This weekend he is riding 1 million metres to raise funds for mental health. Check his Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/jessegd87) for event details and there's even options for you to take part in the ride If you could subscribe, rate, review and whatever else the kids do these days It would mean the world to me, and can also check out @_matt_grant_ for updates, information and to learn a bit more about me MG
If you told me 10 years ago that I'd be interviewing this guest on my podcast, I'd probably laugh in your face. We used to party (extremely hard) together and to say his life has changed is an understatement. From gambling, drugs and alcohol to attempting to break world records (cycling 1 million metres), Jesse is the perfect example of someone who has completely turned his life around. This is a very genuine conversation with a dude who has no regrets and shows what happens to your life when you "have a f*cking go". Check out the episode, make sure you subscribe, and follow @_matt_grant_ on Instagram for updates, release dates and guest info. MG
