TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the August 3rd episode of the Daily Radio Bible. Today's conversation focused on day 215 in the Journey Through the Scriptures, inviting listeners from around the world to gather around the Word in search of Jesus, the true source of life. The discussion explored readings from Nahum chapters 1–3 and John 5, delving into themes of justice, restoration, and the love of God. One concept discussed was how Scripture points not just to law or judgment but directly to Jesus, who was present with love and healing even when unrecognized. A key theme that emerged was the invitation to let God's love reshape hearts and minds, setting aside the burdens of control and rule-keeping for a living relationship with Christ. The episode concluded with communal prayers, encouragement, and an affirmation that no matter where you are on your journey, you are deeply loved by God. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ.  Amen.  OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation.   Leave us a voicemail HERE: https://www.speakpipe.com/dailyradiobible Subscribe to us at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Dailyradiobible/featured OTHER PODCASTS: Listen with Apple Podcast DAILY BIBLE FOR KIDS DAILY PSALMS DAILY PROVERBS DAILY LECTIONARY DAILY CHRONOLOGICAL

Voices in My Head (The Rick Lee James Podcast) Episode 628: Truth, Justice, and the Way - Episode 11: Supergirl - Redemption or Revenge?     This week on Voices in My Head, i'm sharing an episode of my other podcast that I host with David Dault, Truth, Justice and the Way. What happens when a superhero story trades redemption for revenge? In this episode of Truth, Justice, and the Way: Superman & Spirituality, Rick Lee James and David Dault explore one of the most surprising changes in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and ask what it reveals about heroism, justice, mercy, and the moral imagination. Comparing the film to Tom King's original graphic novel, they wrestle with questions of violence, forgiveness, redemption, and whether we still believe people can truly change. Along the way, they reflect on Superman's enduring example of hope, the power of storytelling to shape our moral lives, and why the best heroes call us not simply to defeat evil—but to become better people. In This Episode Rick shares the story behind his new single, “Heaven Is Full of Criminals,” featuring Phil Keaggy, and the surprising conversations it has sparked about grace, worthiness, and hope. The theological inspiration behind the song includes the Good Thief, the possibility of redemption, and the question of whether God's welcome extends farther than we imagine. A spoiler-filled discussion of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowand how its ending differs dramatically from Tom King's acclaimed graphic novel. Why the graphic novel's ending offers a vision of redemption, while the film chooses an act of lethal justice. The idea of redemptive violenceand why so many modern stories assume evil can only be defeated through killing. Superman's refusal to kill and why restraint—not power—has always been one of his defining virtues. Whether James Gunn may be setting up a larger redemption arc for Supergirl as his new DC Universe unfolds. Why stories shape our moral imagination, influencing what we believe is possible for heroes, villains, and ourselves. Mark Waid's famous criticism of Superman killing General Zod in Man of Steel, and why he insists, “That's not Superman.” Comparisons to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Odyssey, Avengers: Infinity War, and the Gospels as examples of stories that wrestle with hope, loss, and redemption. Reflections on Pope Francis, Karl Barth, and the Christian hope that no one is beyond the reach of grace. Why Superman continues to matter—not because he is the strongest hero, but because he refuses to let violence have the final word. A closing reflection inviting listeners to consider how the stories we tell shape the people we become—and whether hope may be the bravest choice of all.   “Heaven Is Full of Criminals” Hear Now       Connect with Rick Lee James Website: RickLeeJames.com Email: Rick@RickLeeJames.com Listen / Subscribe Subscribe, rate, and review Voices in My Head wherever you listen to podcasts. The Gospel of Matthew was written by an eye-witness of Jesus the Christ - what He did, what He taught, the miracles He performed, the lives He transformed, and how people responded to Him. It was originally written to Jews who were eagerly looking forward to the arrival of their promised anointed Messiah. This audio podcast of the Gospel of Matthew complements the additional teaching I am providing on my YouTube channel as I build the video commentary series of Matthew. Drawing from her experience as a former public school teacher, a single mom, and someone whose own family story has been deeply shaped by these issues, Amber offers practical wisdom for Christian parents who want to approach these conversations with both biblical conviction and deep compassion. In our conversation, we discuss why these talks often need to begin earlier than parents expect, how to create a safe environment where children can ask honest questions, why sexuality should be viewed as an ongoing discipleship conversation rather than a one-time “talk,” and how our treatment of others can have a profound impact on the way people experience the gospel.Whether you're parenting young children, raising teenagers, or simply trying to understand how to engage these topics with greater grace and wisdom, I think you'll find this conversation both challenging and encouraging.Learn more about Amber and her work at ambergarrettcarroll.com.Pre-order or purchase Ready to Talk: A Christian Parent's Guide to Gender and Sexuality at ambergarrettcarroll.com/shop.Download Amber's free Parent Prep Pack at ambergarrettcarroll.com/parent.“Heaven Is Full of Criminals”Spotify Pre-Save · https://show.co/sOrc2zbConnect with Rick Lee JamesWebsite: RickLeeJames.comEmail: Rick@RickLeeJames.comListen / SubscribeSubscribe, rate, and review Voices in My Head wherever you listen to podcasts.Music & MerchBandcamp (music + merch): RickLeeJames.Bandcamp.comStreaming: Search “Rick Lee James” on your favorite music platform or on Spotify https://t.co/S7nCRl0xqaAudiobookOut of the Depths: A Songwriter's Journey Through the Psalms (Audible):Audiobook LinkSpecial Offer10% off at Bandcamp: use code 10off at checkoutRickLeeJames.Bandcamp.comHosted byRick Lee James — Voices in My Head Podcast This is a public episode. Voices in My Head (The Rick Lee James Podcast) Episode 626: A Chapel Reflection on John 3:16 and the Invitation of Jesus   This week on Voices in My Head (The Rick Lee James Podcast), I share one of the most unexpected chapel services I've ever led. Our scheduled speaker didn't arrive. I had no sermon prepared, no notes, and not even a Bible in front of me. As I played the opening worship song, I found myself praying, listening, and trusting that somehow God would provide a message. Out of that moment came an impromptu reflection on the friends who brought the paralyzed man to Jesus and a fresh hearing of the words of John 3:16-17. What if, instead of hearing, "For God so loved the world," we imagined the name of someone we love in that verse? And then, what if we put our own name there? Recorded live in our hospital chapel, this episode is a reminder that God's love is deeply personal, Jesus' invitation is still open, and sometimes the messages that touch us most are the ones we never planned to preach at all. Sometimes all we can do is show up, trust the Spirit, and begin with a song. Sometimes all we can do is show up, trust the Spirit, and begin with a song.Connect with Rick Lee JamesWebsite: RickLeeJames.comEmail: Rick@RickLeeJames.comListen / SubscribeSubscribe, rate, and review Voices in My Head wherever you listen to podcasts.Music & MerchBandcamp (music + merch): RickLeeJames.Bandcamp.comStreaming: Search “Rick Lee James” on your favorite music platform or on Spotify https://t.co/S7nCRl0xqaAudiobookOut of the Depths: A Songwriter's Journey Through the Psalms (Audible):Audiobook LinkSpecial Offer10% off at Bandcamp: use code 10off at checkoutRickLeeJames.Bandcamp.comHosted byRick Lee James — Voices in My Head Podcast This is a public episode. Voices in My Head (The Rick Lee James Podcast) Episode 625: Lectio Divina and the Compassion of Christ   This week on Voices in My Head, I'm sharing a chapel service I recently led at Springfield Regional Medical Center. Using the spiritual practice of Lectio Divina and reflecting on Romans 12:9–21, I explore what it means to offer the gift of presence to those who are suffering, drawing inspiration from Henri Nouwen's A Spirituality of Caregiving. Along with prayer, scripture, and music—including a closing rendition of “Trust in God”—I invite you to join me in considering how God calls us to rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn, and walk alongside one another with compassion and grace. Gentlemen Please - Part 5 - The Apostolic Instructions to all Men

Messages that matter by Dr. Andrew Corbett

In this concluding chapter I am proceeding to discuss the final biblical instructions to men to be men. GOD has created and designed men to be strong, appropriately aggressive, protective, socially organised, romantic, godly, spiritual, courageous, and to problem-solve. Lately, these very traits have been categorised as “toxic masculinity.” I am arguing that these are the traits of positive-masculinity. But they only warrant being positive if they are harnessed according to the wisdom of God's Word. I have shown in our previous chapter that Christ was the preeminent example of such positive-masculinity. I now outline how the apostolic teaching of the earliest Church articulated how these traits were to be developed and celebrated by men. In my conclusion to this short book, I will appeal to all men to heed the example set by those I have referred to in the Old Testament, the preeminent example of Christ, and this apostolic teaching. I do this in the light of the current global crisis we must confront. This week brings one of the most powerful astrology alignments of the year: Venus conjunct Jupiter, Hecate on the North Node, Uranus square the Nodes of Fate, and a Gemini New Moon that opens the door to an entirely new chapter. The question is: Will you choose the safe path… or your highest timeline? In this astrology forecast for June 8–14, Sabrina Lynn explores the profound crossroads energy moving through the collective. We dive into how Hecate, the Queen of the Crossroads, is activating destiny pathways, why Venus conjunct Jupiter is amplifying joy, abundance, and soul-aligned opportunities, and how the Warrior for Truth (Eris) is demanding radical authenticity before the blessings can fully land. Voices in My Head (The Rick Lee James Podcast) Episode 623: Hank and Henry Spaulding On this episode of Voices in My Head, I'm joined by theologian Hank Spaulding and his father for a conversation that spans three powerful and deeply connected books: The Gospel of the Incarcerated Christ, The Rhythm of Grace, and Between Two Gileads. Together, these works explore some of the most pressing questions facing the church today. What does it mean that Jesus was executed as a criminal? What if holiness is less about performance and more about grace? And how should we respond when Scripture is used not to heal, but to justify power and control? From reflections on incarceration and justice… to a reimagining of holiness through beauty and grace… to a thoughtful critique of Christian nationalism and the misuse of passages like Romans 13, this conversation invites us to take a deeper look at the kind of faith we're living and the kind of people we're becoming. It's honest, challenging, and ultimately hopeful.   Find the book they wrote together here: https://wipfandstock.com/9798385242016/the-rhythm-of-grace/ Bonus: See Hank speak at the 2025 Karl Barth Conference Here: https://youtu.be/SMSaNp1Zd-o?si=DrCozfXxBN9td0YX Connect with Rick Lee James Website: RickLeeJames.com Email: RickLeeJames.Bandcamp.com Streaming: Search “Rick Lee James” on your favorite music platform or on Spotify https://t.co/S7nCRl0xqa Audiobook Out of the Depths: A Songwriter's Journey Through the Psalms (Audible): Audiobook Link Special Offer 10% off at Bandcamp: use code 10off at checkout RickLeeJames.Bandcamp.com Hosted by Rick Lee James — Voices in My Head Podcast

Danielle Crittenden joins Margaret Hoover to discuss her new book, “Dispatches from Grief: A Mother's Journey Through the Unthinkable,” which details the aftermath of her daughter's unexpected death.Miranda Frum, who once worked for “Firing Line,” died suddenly in 2024 at age 32 as she was preparing to celebrate the five-year anniversary of a successful surgery to remove a rare nonmalignant brain tumor. Crittenden and her husband, writer David Frum, navigated frustrating levels of bureaucracy as they dealt with legal and logistical challenges following Miranda's death, and she continues to experience “digital haunting” as her devices provide sometimes unwelcome reminders of her daughter. While “Dispatches from Grief” is decidedly not a self-help book, Crittenden offers advice both for mourners and for those who find themselves interacting with parents who have suffered the loss of a child. She also reflects on what she has learned from suffering and how her grief has evolved over time, as well as what Miranda might have thought of her writing the book.WARNING: This episode contains discussions of suicide. Some losses divide a life into before and after. In this conversation, writer and journalist Danielle Crittenden sits down with Katie to discuss her new memoir, Dispatches from Grief: A Mother's Journey Through the Unthinkable, which chronicles the days and months following the sudden death of her 32-year-old daughter, Miranda, in February 2024. Crittenden reflects on the physical reality of grief, the maddening bureaucracy that follows death, and the difficulty finding professional support, even with significant resources. She also opens up about navigating loss alongside her husband, journalist David Frum, the challenge of continuing to parent her two other children while managing her grief, and the unexpected community of bereaved parents she never wanted to join but has come to cherish. Usually, an assassination attempt outside a dinner with the president would be a HUGE news event. Instead, the voters in our focus groups weren't talking much about it, and when we brought it up, we heard a LOT of conspiracy theories. We also talked to some Republican voters about whether '86' is really a violent threat, as this week's indictment against James Comey alleges. Atlantic staff writer David Frum joins Sarah for a wide-ranging conversation on the week's events, voters' reactions, and keeping American democracy strong for the long haul.By David's wife, Danielle Crittenden: Dispatches from Grief: A Mother's Journey Through the UnthinkableBy David Frum:The David Frum ShowMAGA's Strange Quiet After the ShootingGet tickets to The Bulwark's May live shows in San Diego and Los Angeles!
