Movie Session – “The World Will End in Laughter” ✨In this session, with commentary from David, Marina, and Urpi, we watched a comedy to explore the central theme of how we perceive the world and what purpose we serve. We were reminded that, as Jesus says in *A Course in Miracles*, the world will end in laughter, and this film helped us approach that idea in a lighthearted yet deeply meaningful way.David invited us to consider that the world is a stage, a scripted play in which we all perform different roles. Suffering arises only from our interpretations, and we have two choices: to see with the ego—producing fear and guilt—or to see with the Holy Spirit, who reveals innocence and a happy world.Together we explored how, by recognizing that everything is part of a dream, we can stop judging, release the ego's roles, and open to One Voice: the Holy Spirit, our Guide toward the healing of the mind. When we join with His purpose, we attract witnesses of love, time reorganizes for our benefit, and we begin to experience a joyful dream. The session concluded with a Q&A, integrating the insights and carrying the message into our hearts. For more information about The Way of the Mystic, David Hoffmeister, and Living Miracles events, visit https://www.the-christ.net/eventsRecorded live online on November 17, 2025, in Mexico.Follow us on:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/DavidHoffmeister Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ACIM.ACourseInMiracles Learn more about David & Living Miracles: https://livingmiraclescenter.orgLearn more about A Course in Miracles: https://ACIM.bizDavid's Spanish Youtube Channel is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP9Gw00CldPUmiu43y7fdWw

To hear the entire interview, please consider joining my Patreon and becoming a member; alternately, this episode can be purchased for a one-time fee. More information at www.patreon.com/RejectedReligion.My guest this month is Dr. Bastiaan van Rijn.Bastiaan is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. During his PhD, he has investigated how practitioners of different movements in the nineteenth century tried to scientifically prove life after death exists. The outcome of this project is the book Afterlife Research (forthcoming), as well as several open-access articles. Beside this, he is also interested in playful approaches to religion and divination in the contemporary West. His newest project centers on spiritual tourism. This interview takes us into the fascinating world of Mesmerism—also known as animal magnetism—and its enduring influence on the boundaries between science, mysticism, and spiritual inquiry. Bastiaan gives a brief bio of Franz Anton Mesmer, who in the late 18th century proposed that an invisible fluid flowed through all living beings, capable of healing and revealing hidden truths. Though controversial and dismissed by many, Mesmer's ideas sparked a lineage of thought that continues to shape contemporary conversations about consciousness, healing, and the legitimacy of scientific inquiry. We discuss how Mesmerism blended science and mysticism, influenced public perception, and laid the groundwork for practices ranging from hypnotism and New Thought to modern-day energetic healing. Bastiaan's own research picks up this thread, tracing how the experimental impulse to make the invisible visible evolved into afterlife studies, somnambulism, and psychical research. From there, we dive into Bastiaan's dissertation, which examines the emergence of a “scientific culture” in afterlife research—one grappling with empirical inaccessibility, unreliable intermediaries, and skeptical resistance. Through case studies of three spiritual animal magnetizers, Bastiaan uncovers how different strategies were used to stabilize claims and navigate the tension between belief and method.Ultimately, this conversation invites us to rethink what counts as scientific, Bastiaan invites us to consider not just what these researchers claimed to find, but how they tried to find it, as well as how experimental practices in esoteric and spiritual domains contribute to broader dialogues about religion, and the unseen dimensions of human experience. What emerges is a rich, transhistorical culture of inquiry—one that challenges our assumptions about science, religion, and the boundaries of legitimate knowledge.PROGRAM NOTESFind Bastiaan:Bastiaan Benjamin Van Rijn - University of FribourgBastiaan van Rijn | LinkedInInstagramResearchGate – all research[PhD Diss.] The Experimental Culture of Afterlife Research: Attempts by Spiritual Animal Magnetizers to Prove Life after Death | Request PDF(PDF) Chapter 9 Building a Typology for Intentional Transformative Experiences: Louis- Alphonse Cahagnet's Experiments with Magnetic Somnambulism and HashishBastiaan van Rijn (0000-0003-4247-9198) - ORCIDOther Resources:1784: The Marquis de Puységur and the psychological turn in the west - PubMedThe seeress of Prevorst; being revelations concerning the inner-life of man, and the inter-diffusion of a world of spirits in the one we inhabit : Kerner, Justinus Andreas Christian, 1786-1862 : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet ArchiveInvestigations of psychic/spiritual phenomena in the nineteenth century: somnambulism and spiritualism, 1811-1860A Republic of Mind and Spirit – Wonderful history of Metaphysics in the USA

Victoria "Lana" Generao - Aloha Ke Akua! Mahalo nui loa for visiting The Halau! We established our Sanctuary for the exploration and awakening of consciousness, the unfolding of our collective creative and healing potential and realisation of our essential Unity. Embracing a forest and freshwater lakes, our grounds provide a perfect atmosphere for the enrichment of body, mind and spirit. Our teachings arise out of direct experience of awakened awareness and emanates the untamable fragrance of freedom whilst radically embracing the mystery and mess of human existence. Our invitation is for you to open to the fullness of life, to say YES to the totality of your experience and to meet reality with radical compassion. Our doors are open invitation to all who seek authentic freedom and are willing to meet heart to heart in honest and open inquiry. We were taught that the goal of life is to move through life walking up the mountain of experiences with your Aloha, your Bowl of Light. Life is filled with lessons to learn and teaching moments along the way. When you become angry or jealous, you drop those stones into your bowl of light and those rocks cause leaks in your Mana-sacred power. When your bowl becomes filled with stones, you become a stone that cannot grow. No Aloha! The solution is that at any moment, you can turn your bowl upside down emptying these stones out of your bowl to naturally refill it with YOUR golden light -- your natural Aware and Awakened state of Aloha, your natural state of Divinity.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. Today we will be talking to Yehudah Halper about his new book, Averroes on Pathways to Divine Knowledge (Academic Studies Press, 2025). The twelfth-century Andalusian philosopher Averroes sought to understand the divine in a way independent of religious theology, by turning to the philosophical works of Aristotle and, to a lesser extent, Plato. In doing so, he established standards of scientific inquiry into God that were and remain highly influential on Jewish and Christian thought. Averroes, however, does not provide much in the way of demonstrative knowledge of God, and most of his arguments remain dialectical, rhetorical, or political. This volume explores the various pathways towards attaining divine knowledge that we find in Averroes' commentaries on Aristotle's De Anima, Metaphysics, and Nicomachean Ethics, and on Plato's Republic, along with Averroes' Epistle on Divine Knowledge, Decisive Treatise, and more. Yehuda Halper is Professor in the Department of Jewish Philosophy at Bar Ilan University. He is currently a aisiting professor at University of Chicago Divinity School. His first monograph, Jewish Socratic Questions in an Age without Plato (Brill, 2021) won the Goldstein-Goren Book Award for the best book in Jewish Thought in 2019-2021. He is currently directing the ISF grant (#622/22) "Samuel Ibn Tibbon's Explanation of Foreign Terms and the Foundations of Philosophy in Hebrew." Rabbi Marc Katz is the Senior Rabbi at Temple Ner Tamid. His latest book is Yochanan's Gamble: Judaism's Pragmatic Approach to Life. Learn more about your ad choices. Daniel sits down with returning guest Dana Marie for an episode that dives into everything from Greek philosophy to the death penalty, metaphysics, faith, and the uncomfortable gray areas in between. Drawing on her background as a lawyer, philosopher, and lifelong question-asker, Dana unpacks justice, vengeance, free will, and what it really means to take a life — legally, spiritually, and metaphysically.Together, they examine the difference between justice and revenge, the weight carried by jurors and judges, and the unseen consequences that ripple across lifetimes. By the end, the episode becomes less about punishment and more about the human condition — why we believe what we believe, how we grow, and how God or the universe nudges us toward what we actually need.Check out THE EXPANSE METHOD. It's been almost exactly a year since we had Brien Foerster on the show, and we welcome him back to talk about his research in Egypt, attempts to date Puma Punku, and updates on his work on Elongated Skulls. Brien was born in Rochester, Minnesota, U.S.A. but grew up on the west coast of Canada. At age 11, he became fascinated with the Native art of the Haida native people, and began carving totem poles, and other related art forms, learning from Native teachers. After completing an Honours Bachelor Of Science degree, Brien decided to take up carving and sculpture full time, at the age of 25. In 1995 he moved to Maui, Hawaii, and was hired as assistant project manager for the building of the 62 foot double hull sailing canoe ( ancestor of the modern day catamaran ) Mo'okiha O Pi'ilani ( Sacred Lizard That Pierces The Heavens ) and the restoration of the famous Mo'olele sailing canoe. This project lasted 2 years. There, having learned how to make Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddles from master carver Keola Sequiera, he started an online outrigger paddle business, which flourished internationally. Peru became his next major area of interest. The study of the Inca culture led to his writing a book, A Brief History Of The Incas which is available on this site, and is now the assistant director of the Paracas History Museum in Paracas, south of Lima. He is also assisting the municipality of Paracas to improve the number of foreign tourists that visit, as well as is fundamental in expanding tourism in general, especially as regards showing all visitors the 10,000 years of human occupation of this area, through tours of major and minor archaeological sites. Other projects, which will result in published books, include one about the ancient history of Hawaii, the mysterious stone monuments of Peru that predate the Inca, and the search for the lost continent of Mu. This will require combining all that he has learned so far, with trips to New Zealand (Aotearoa), Hawaii, and Easter island (Rapanui.) He is the author of 8 books, appearances on Ancient Aliens, numerous radio interviews, and resides in Peru with his wife. Brien's webpage: www.hiddenincatours.com Hosted on Acast. Born in the gritty Navy town of Bremerton, Washington and raised in the south Seattle suburbs, John Michael Greer began writing about as soon as he could hold a pencil. SF editor George Scithers' dictum that all would-be writers have a million words of so of bad prose in them, and have to write it out, pretty much sums up the couple of decades between his first serious attempt to write a book and his first published book, Paths of Wisdom, which appeared in 1996. These days he lives in Cumberland, MD with his spouse Sara; serve as presiding officer -- Grand Archdruid is the official title -- of the Ancient Order of Druids in America (AODA), a Druid order founded in 1912; and writes in half a dozen nonfiction fields, nearly all of them focused on the revival of forgotten ideas, insights, and traditions of practice from the rubbish heap of history. - www.redroom.com/author/john-michael-greerBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. In this episode, Dr. Jacobs explores the metaphysical foundations of Nicene and Constantinopolitan theology, including hyalomorphism, moderate realism, the doctrine of the hypostasis, and the distinction between creation and eternal generation. He'll walk through how the early church fathers developed sophisticated philosophical positions on the nature of God, creatures, causation, and the individual that were integral to Christian theology rather than later Greek additions. All the links: Substack: https://nathanajacobs.substack.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thenathanjacobspodcastWebsite: https://www.nathanajacobs.com/X: https://x.com/NathanJacobsPodSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0hSskUtCwDT40uFbqTk3QSApple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-nathan-jacobs-podcastFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/nathanandrewjacobsAcademia: https://vanderbilt.academia.edu/NathanAJacobs00:00:00 Intro 00:02:15 The Seven Ecumenical Councils wverview 00:04:42 No ancient divide 00:21:42 Ancient Christians saw Christianity as philosophy 00:29:39 Dispelling the progress narrative 00:38:21 The Arian disput & metaphysical commitments 00:39:16 What it means to be "created" 00:43:12 Hylomorphism: form & matter 00:52:24 Metaphysical realism and the law of contradiction 01:03:07 Are creatures material? 01:04:38 Biblical foundations for these commitments 01:09:20 From Nicaea to Constantinople 01:11:51 The doctrine of the hypostasis 01:14:00 Moderate realism: Aristotle vs Plato 01:23:10 The individual as its own reality 01:32:15 On "Not Three Gods" 01:42:32 The distinction of causes: begotten, not made 01:51:27 Efficient vs formal cause 02:00:05 Per se vs per accidens causality 02:02:39 Eternal generation & procession

Ted Gioia warned this would be a tough week—and he wasn't kidding. Week 33 of the Immersive Humanities Project had me wrestling with three giants of philosophy: Descartes, Kant, and Spinoza. I started with Descartes' Discourse on the Method, where his famous “I think, therefore I am” felt surprisingly direct and human. His four rules for reasoning—question, divide, simplify, and review—made him seem less like an abstract philosopher and more like a kind, curious friend.Kant's Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals was another story. Dense and demanding, it centers on the “Categorical Imperative”: act only according to principles you'd accept as universal law. It's a moral system built purely on duty, not emotion. Then came Spinoza's Ethics, written like a geometry proof. His radical idea—that God and Nature are one—left little room for the supernatural or free will. When reading failed, I turned to the 1987 Great Philosophers series with Brian Magee, which unlocked everything. These thinkers—Continental Rationalists all—believed reason alone could uncover truth, unlike the British Empiricists who demanded evidence. It was a mentally exhausting but fascinating stretch, and next week I'm relieved to return to fiction with Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther.LINKTed Gioia/The Honest Broker's 12-Month Immersive Humanities Course (paywalled!)My Amazon Book List (NOT an affiliate link)CONNECTThe complete list of Crack the Book Episodes: https://cheryldrury.substack.com/p/crack-the-book-start-here?r=u3t2rTo read more of my writing, visit my Substack - https://www.cheryldrury.substack.com.Follow me on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/cldrury/ LISTENSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/5GpySInw1e8IqNQvXow7Lv?si=9ebd5508daa245bdApple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/crack-the-book/id1749793321 Captivate - https://crackthebook.captivate.fm

We explore how space and time form a single fabric, testing our daily beliefs through questions about free-fall, black holes, speed, and momentum to reveal what models get right and where they break. To help us, we're excited to have our friend David Theriault, a science and sci-fi afficionado; and our resident astrophysicist, Rachel Losacco, to talk about practical exploration in space and time. They'll even unpack a few concerns they have about how space and time were depicted in the movie Interstellar (2014).Highlights:• Introduction: Why fundamentals beat shortcuts in science and AI• Time as experience versus physical parameter• Plato's ideals versus Aristotle's change as framing tools• Free-fall, G-forces, and what we actually feel• Gravity wells, curvature, and moving through space-time• Black holes, tidal forces, and spaghettification• Momentum and speed: Laser probe, photon momentum, and braking limits• Doppler shifts, time dilation, and length contraction• Why light's speed stays constant across frames• Modeling causality and preparing for the next paradigmThis episode about space and time is the second in our series about metaphysics and modern AI. Each topic in the series is leading to the fundamental question, "Should AI try to think?" Step away from your keyboard and enjoy this journey with us. The word “metaphysics” conjures up thoughts of very hard questions about reality and deep, perhaps unresolvable, metaphysical mysteries. But is that the right way to think about the subject matter of metaphysics? According to Amie Thomasson, very clearly no. In her new book, Rethinking Metaphysics (Oxford University Press, 2025), Thomasson argues that traditional views of metaphysics make the mistake of assuming that our concepts all function the same way – for example, that the job of metaphysics is to provide truthmakers for statements about necessity and possibility, about morality, about numbers, when each of these discourses have different aims. Thomasson, who is Daniel P. Stone Professor of Intellectual and Moral Philosophy at Dartmouth College, instead offers a deflationary view of metaphysics in which the job of metaphysicians is conceptual engineering – of figuring out how our concepts and terms work in a discourse, what their various functions are, and what conceptual schemes we should adopt, particularly if our current ones are leading us into metaphysical pseudo-problems. Albert Taylor Ph. D is an aeronautical engineer and scientist who spent almost two decades evaluating satellite system designs and many confidential government programs. Currently a metaphysical researcher, Taylor is an active member of the International Association of Near Death Studies, and a participant in the Monroe Institute's Voyagers program. He lives in Los Angeles. Albert's book Soul Traveler talks of his own out-of-body experiences and much more. Beyond that, he is a robotics expert, and has been creating robots to hunt for ghosts and other paranormal phenomena. We talk about all of this during this show. Albert Taylor performed development engineering on a top secret program which has since become known as the F-117A Stealth Fighter. He evaluated satellite system designs in support of former President Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) or Star Wars. During the late 1980's Taylor taught Logistics Engineering at Cerritos College, California. He has also served as a volunteer art instructor at St. Paul's Elementary School in West Los Angeles. Taylor's art work has been exhibited in Southern California galleries. In 1992 he developed two prototype computers, and started a company called Phoenix Computers Systems, which he still owns today. In this flipped episode, Brendan Graham Dempsey interviews Jim about the ideas in his recent Substack essays "A Minimum Viable Metaphysics" and "What I Mean by 'Metaphysics'." They discuss metaphysics as assumptions for learning and reasoning, the difference between deduction, induction, & abduction, Jim's belief that there are no paradoxes in the real world, the reality principle, the asymmetry principle, the lawfulness principle, the potential stochastic nature of reality, why determinism and lawfulness aren't the same, consciousness in the tree of emergence, why emergence is important, causal time, downward causality as the main claim of emergence, temporal reciprocal emergence, Jim's reputation for drawing a firearm when the word metaphysics is used, the weak & strong anthropic principles, and much more. He is the author of Metamodernism: Or, The Cultural Logic of Cultural Logics and host of the Metamodern Spirituality Podcast. His primary interests include theorizing developments in culture after postmodernism, productively bridging the divide between science and spirituality, and developing sustainable systems for life to flourish. All of these lead through the paradigms of emergence and complexity, which inform all of his work.
