A Rushen hustings meeting will be held this Thursday evening to give people an opportunity to raise in a public forum the issues they think should be a priority for the next government. In what is a fairly novel approach this meeting is not called by candidates and doesn't invite candidates to share their views with the public, but instead it invites the public to share their views on what really matters to them. This should be a refreshing change to the tried and tested formula of previous hustings, but will we learn anything new from the process. I certainly hope so!

Long serving political figure Eddie Lowey passed away recently and on Agenda long term friend and occasional political ally Peter Karran pays tribute to a towering Manx statesman. Mr Lowey was first elected to the House of Keys in the old Rushen constituency. He went on to serve in many position in both government and Tynwald stepping down from Legislative Council about ten years ago. But it was his dedication to the Manx people through the Labour Party which defines him as one of the most influential politicians in living memory.

There's much more to the fiercely intelligent, multitalented singer-songwriter-keyboardist Patrice Rushen than “Forget Me Nots,” though that song, with its get-up-and-dance groove and Rushen's sweet vocals, is undeniable. Not only was it a Grammy-nominated hit in 1982, but it served as the basis for Will Smith's “Men in Black” (amid a tense negotiation) and in 2021 became a viral TikTok dance sensation. Just what you'd expect from a formally trained jazz pianist who began studying music at age 3, was signed to the jazz label Prestige at age 17 and moved on to record funky, genre-defying music for Elektra. She also has scored films such as Hollywood Shuffle, served as music director for the Grammy and Emmy Awards, and chairs the University of Southern California's Popular Music Program. It's all of a piece, she explains, and straight from the heart.

Karl Rushen is an adventurer and endurance athlete, in 2011 his Brother was tragically killed in action as a Member of the SAS. Karl has created an amazing legacy for his brother and has not only challenged himself, but so many others to "Be a better Version of Themselves"     Karl created The 100 Peaks Challenge, a tribute to his brother   The team began the Challenge on 23rd May 2017 finishing on the summit of Pen Y Fan on the anniversary of his death. The 25 Day duration was the length of his brothers' last tour of duty. Karl say the thing he's most proud of as a Champion is the amount of people that decided to make a change in themselves as a result of what they were aiming to achieve with the Challenge.
