Newly appointed captain Harry Kane scored twice against Tunisia in a stadium filled with buzzing midges, completed a hat-trick during England's huge victory over Panama and kept his cool during a dramatic penalty shootout against Colombia. There were last-minute goals, enormous pressure, inflatable unicorns and a famous night when England finally won a World Cup penalty shootout for the very first time. England's adventure ended with semi-final heartbreak against Croatia, but Kane finished the tournament with six goals and the Golden Boot. The captain had arrived on football's biggest stage. But his World Cup journey was only just beginning.

After helping England reach the knockout stages in 2022, Kane scored against Senegal and prepared to face reigning champions France in a huge quarter-final. Then came a moment every football fan remembers. A penalty. A chance to equalise. A shot over the crossbar. England were out, and Kane was left heartbroken beneath the floodlights. But the greatest footballers are not defined by the moments when they fall. They are defined by the way they stand up again. From his move to Bayern Munich to another chance to lead England on football's biggest stage, this is a story about goals, pressure, bravery and refusing to give up on a dream.

For decades, the striker had one job: stand in the box and score goals. Then Guardiola made them midfielders, Klopp made them defenders, and now Erling Haaland has arrived to destroy the system. Welcome back to FUT IN REVIEW | World Cup Daily. In Episode 5, host GPM is joined by Art (all the way from Poland) and John (live from Perth) to settle the ultimate football debate.Has the classic center-forward actually died, or is Haaland proving it was just waiting? More importantly, which tactical system will conquer the World Cup this summer? We dive deep into the evolution of the game's most iconic shirt:The Classic Hitmen: Remembering the era of Alan Shearer, Gabriel Batistuta, Didier Drogba, and El Fenómeno (R9).The Guardiola Revolution: How the False Nine system with Lionel Messi and Roberto Firmino changed football forever. The Haaland Paradox: Why Manchester City's tactical mastermind brought in a 35 km/h blonde Viking to win the treble—and why the False Nine might just be a workaround for when you don't have Haaland. The Ultimate World Cup Test: Fluid football vs. Brute force. We contrast tournament favorites Spain (building around Yamal and Nico Williams without a traditional striker) against dark horses Norway (completely built around feeding Haaland). The Complete Forward: Why Harry Kane is the ultimate modern template—and whether he will secure the Golden Boot for England. The Lewandowski Dilemma: Art breaks down why Robert Lewandowski thrives at Barcelona but struggles as a classic 9 for Poland.Listen Early & Win Prizes: Want to hear every episode the exact second we finish recording? From the chaos of Mexico's heat and altitude to England's stuttering start, Bryan Robson's injury, Ray Wilkins' red card, Gary Lineker's Golden Boot surge, and the tactical reshuffle that accidentally brought Peter Beardsley, Peter Reid and Steve Hodge into sharper focus, this is a deep dive into one of England's most fascinating World Cup campaigns. And then, of course, there is Argentina. The quarter-final at the Azteca gave football two of its most famous goals: The Hand of God and The Goal of the Century. For the Glory KC is back with the 180th episode of the show! Before we get to the podcast, the KC Soccer Journal is having a free event at the Indian Creek Library in Olathe. Tickets are free and you can get them here!Sporting Kansas City couldn't string together three wins in a row for the first time since 2022. Perhaps after MLS returns from the 2026 FIFA World Cup break. Sporting KC nearly pulled off the comeback after a slow start against Red Bull New York on Saturday night. It was Star Wars night at Sporting Park and Sheena and I talk our off the field escapades, in addition to what happened on the pitch. After New York's quick start, Sporting KC generated numerous opportunities and nearly doubled RBNY's expected goal (xG) output, according to Fotmob (1.69 to 0.88).Though they had the greater chances, they failed to finish too consistently. Additionally, their mistakes were punished more readily. That doesn't even account for all the chances that didn't lead to a shot when a player took one too many touches or made a poor pass to kill an attack. Despite that, Kansas City remained in the game until the dying minutes. A welcome change after 5-0 and 6-0 blowouts just a few weeks back.We talk through all the highs and lows, as well as time spent on Capita, Berg Johnsen, Manu Garcia, Taylor Calheira, Shapi, Jake Davis and others. Sheena even breaks out a top-ranking list for SKC and the Current. In addition to the game, we talk through Austin FC firing their coach and Sporting Director after losing to Sporting KC, Or Blorian leaving his last club on a high, Zorhan Bassong's shot at a World Cup roster and Zamir Loyo Reynaga scoring in his latest international endeavor. The KC Current were up and down this week. They ended the week on a high, beating the then first place Portland Thorns. But their midweek road loss to Angel City FC soured the week a bit. Temwa Chawinga continued her Golden Boot climb and the ongoing Ally Sentnor/Haley Hopkins debate gets another chapter. In the Digital Crawl, we hit on a few more topics, including:SKC II resultsMessi injured?USMNT roster for the World Cup!Here is a rundown of sections and start times:Intro - 0:00Sporting KC - 1:59KC Current - 54:18Digital Crawl - 1:14:41Upcoming GamesSKC II @ Real Monarchs, FRI, May 29th at 9:00PM CSTKC Current vs Boston Legacy, SAT, May 30th at 12:30PM As a special gift to For the Glory KC listeners and KC Soccer Journal readers, Backheeled.com is giving away 30 days of their amazing, independent American soccer coverage for free. We ask if Salford City can finally bridge the gap to the third tier, or if Notts County will spoil the party in what promises to be a classic encounter. From courtroom drama to tactical masterclasses, there's SO much to discuss in the latest episode of the talkSPORT Daily podcast!YouTube: @talkSPORTX: @talkSPORT & @talkSPORT2Instagram: @talkSPORTWebsite: Live Radio, Breaking Sports News, Opinion - talkSPORTProduced by: Daniel KaneEdited by: Daniel KanePhoto Credit: Getty Images Hosted on Acast. The Fire earned their second road win, sweeping the home-and-away series against CF Montréal. So obviously John and Tim spend the better part of half an hour talking about everything that they didn't like. In between finding nits to pick, though, they took time to shout out a great performance by Chris Brady and the quiet excellence of Philip Zinckernagel, all while wondering if Hugo Cuypers's Golden Boot-leading season is slowly getting overshadowed by the looming arrival of a certain recently unemployed Polish striker.Even if the performance on the pitch may not have been enough to inspire the hosts, at least John and Tim enjoyed it in style — Tim put on his reporter hat and went to Soccer House, the new soccer-only bar in Chicago, where talked to the owner and met up with John (IRL). The duo talked about what they thought of Chicago's new best place to catch World Cup matches.
For the Glory KC is back with the 179th episode of the show! Before we get to the podcast, the KC Soccer Journal is having a free event at the Indian Creek Library in Olathe. Tickets are free and you can get them here!Sporting Kansas City went from one of their worst performances ever to an incredible bounce-back week. After losing to the Portland Timbers last weekend by an abysmal 6-0 scoreline, Sporting KC put together back-to-back MLS wins for the first time since the summer of 2024! First, they hosted the LA Galaxy and beat them 3-1 in a relatively dominant performance. Sheena was in attendance for the first time this season, so clearly, she and her friends are good luck. Or was it the atrocious media game I played in? Either way, the Galaxy are, for one reason or another, terrible against SKC. That was the second time they've played and at the time SKC's 2nd win of the season. We talk through all the events around the game, the media game and of course, the main event of Sporting KC putting up three for the first time this year and winning at home for the first time this year. Then, KC did the unlikely and won again three days later on the road against Austin FC. They were the better team for most of the game. Despite going down late in the first half, they fought back to tie and eventually win the game and break Austin's verde hearts. Overall, four players scored their first goal of the season this week. Sporting KC had their first comeback win of the season. And things generally went really well over that jam-packed week.Sheena and I also had to discuss the Sporting KC salary release from this week, including all the new player wages and salary changes. I also had to knock down some of those rants from folks I respect around the team when it came to how low the payroll is. The KC Current had an amazing couple of weeks too, with two, 3-0 wins. First over a pretty awful Chicago Stars team that had somehow managed to beat KC once and then against a Houston Dash side that made a series of gaffs early to let KC run away with things. In the process Temwa Chawinga went from zero goals to five in two games and moved into second in the Golden Boot race. Watch out Barbara Banda! In the Digital Crawl, we hit on a few more topics, including:SKC II resultsMLS Next Pro schedule changesUS Soccer's new competition between NWSL, USL SL and WPSL ProHere is a rundown of sections and start times:Intro - 0:00Sporting KC - 1:24KC Current - 1:27:04Digital Crawl - 1:34:24Upcoming GamesKC Current @ Angel City FC - WED, May 20th at 9:00PM CSTSKC II vs. Austin FC II - FRI, May 22nd at 7:00PMSporting KC vs. NY Red Bulls - SAT, May 23rd at 7:30PM KC Current vs. Portland Thorns - SUN, May 24th at Noon As a special gift to For the Glory KC listeners and KC Soccer Journal readers, Backheeled.com is giving away 30 days of their amazing, independent American soccer coverage for free. In this episode, I am so excited to talk with Sporting Jacksonville and USWNT U-20 forward Ashlyn Puerta, who is currently leading the Gainbridge Super League golden boot race.A rising force in the professional game, Ashlyn's made an immediate impact in her first season at Sporting Jacksonville, quickly establishing herself as one of the most dangerous attacking players in the Gainbridge Super League. From a standout youth career that included top academy performances, early national team involvement, and exposure to elite training environments, her path to the professional level has been defined by constant challenges and adaptation at every stage.Ashlyn reflects on her earliest soccer memories, the moments that shaped her development, and how she built the mindset needed to transition from youth standout to professional goalscorer. Ashlyn also breaks down her decision to forgo the traditional college route in favor of joining an expansion project, walking through what ultimately made Sporting Jacksonville the right fit at a pivotal moment in her career. Now a key figure in the club's early success, she discusses her adjustment to the professional game, playing in front of growing home crowds, and what it means to be part of a team building its identity from the ground up.The conversation closes with reflections on her goals for the future, both short-term and long-term, as she continues her breakout season and looks ahead to what's next in her career.Thank you for listening! The Fire's rematch against Cincinnati had everything you could ask for — goals, penalties, red cards and shots galore — as long as you didn't ask for a win for the Fire. John and Tim hash out what went wrong and call out a couple young players for especially rough performances before asking how long it'd be before Berhalter remembered that he make substitutes. They also find a minute between shameless plugs for the "5 Things We Learned" piece they cowrote to praise Hugo Cuypers for his performances in a season where he's now got a share of the Golden Boot lead, all while Tim tries to make "xG farming" a thing.
For the first time since 2012 FC Dallas wins at Sports Illustrated Stadium, 2-nil over the New York Red Bulls. Sam, Ryan, and Steve break down a decisive win for the Burn on the road including a defensive masterclass by one player, Petar Musa re-taking the Golden Boot lead, and who succeeded as a starter once again despite taking on a new role. This program originally aired on the FC Dallas Radio Network on May 2nd, 2026.
The Orlando Pride just suffered a stinging 3-2 loss on the road against Racing Louisville, and we are not holding back. Despite a massive performance from Barbra Banda, who bagged a brace to bring her season total to 5 goals, defensive lapses in the second half cost them dearly. We're breaking down the film: Was it a lack of focus after the half, or was the backline under too much pressure?
Gary Lineker needs no introduction. Golden Boot winner at the 1986 World Cup. Sixty-eight goals for England and one of only four players in history never to receive a yellow card. And for thirty years, the most recognisable face in British football broadcasting. And through almost all of it, a quiet persistent voice telling him he didn't quite belong — that sooner or later, someone was going to find him out. What's fascinating about this conversation is how honest Gary is about that feeling, and how completely he refuses to pretend it wasn't there. He talks about the terrifying manager who pinned him against a dressing room wall after he'd scored two goals in a half, and the life lesson that was buried somewhere inside that moment. He opens up about what it was really like at Barcelona — playing at the absolute peak of his powers and still running back to the halfway line thinking he'd just got lucky again. He tells the story of his dad, who said "I love you" for the first and only time as he lay dying, and what that did to Gary standing alone in a hospital lift. And he shares the lesson from Des Lynam that quietly shaped the way he approached thirty years of live television. You'll hear Gary talk on why luck matters more than most people admit. On what it means to go two marriages deep and still consider yourself blessed. On kindness as a non-negotiable. And on why his greatest asset was never his right foot... it was his mind. Dean Holdsworth joins us this week, taking us inside the madness of the Crazy Gang and the sheer brilliance (and chaos) of eccentric owner Sam Hammam, who once famously “kidnapped” him to get a deal over the line. Starting out at Watford alongside his brother David, Dean recalls their early days winding up the formidable youth team boss Tom Walley. But after struggling to break into the first team, his journey took an unexpected turn including the bizarre moment he ended up in another club's team photo… without ever signing for them. Fast forward to the peak Crazy Gang years, and Holdsworth was flying, going toe-to-toe with the likes of Shearer, Ian Wright and Teddy Sheringham in the race for the Golden Boot. Add in stories of chaotic pre-seasons, a team bus being burned down, a terrifying knife incident at Goodison Park, and plenty of classic Vinnie Jones antics, and Holdsworth brings to life what it truly meant to be part of Wimbledon's most infamous era. After it all, he reflects on his time at Bolton and his later role as chief executive, where he helped save the club from the brink of administration, only for things to turn sour in dramatic fashion. Alan Shearer goes head-to-head with Micah Richards in our latest quiz challenge, putting their football knowledge to the test with a round on World Cup Golden Boot winners. Will Alan's wealth of experience on the biggest stage give him the edge, or can Micah snatch another victory and get back to winning ways. Beyond the quiz, the conversation turns to the international break. Are Thomas Tuchel's side becoming too dependent on Harry Kane for goals? Do the last two matches raise any real concerns, or are they just part of the bigger picture as the tournament approaches? Cristiano Ronaldo Biography Flash a weekly Biography.Hey, what's up, everyone. Tyler Morgan here, your host for Biography Flash. Quick heads up—I'm an AI, which honestly is pretty cool for what we're doing. I get to dive into the archives, pull verified info from reliable sources, and deliver it to you without the bias. Think of me as your research assistant with a sports heart, you know?So let's talk about Cristiano Ronaldo, because this guy just keeps the world spinning.According to Fox Sports, CR7 recently made some serious headlines after coming back from a strike. The man sat out three games because he was frustrated with how transfer funds get distributed in Saudi Arabia. But here's the thing—he's back to doing what he does best, and he's not going anywhere. After netting a brace in a crushing four-nothing victory over Al-Hazem, Ronaldo sat down with reporters and basically put all the exit rumors to bed. He said, and I'm quoting here, "I belong to Saudi Arabia. It's a country that welcomed me and my family very well."Now, there was serious speculation floating around about him potentially heading back to Europe or even joining Lionel Messi in MLS. His contract apparently has exit clauses that can be triggered in the summer window, so people were connecting dots everywhere. But Ronaldo extended his deal through twenty twenty-seven and made it clear he's locked in on Al-Nassr's title race. The guy is chasing his third consecutive Golden Boot in Saudi Arabia and working his way toward a thousand career goals. At forty-one years old, most guys would be retired. This dude is still competing at elite levels. On the business side, World Soccer Talk reports that Ronaldo acquired a twenty-five percent stake in UD Almeria through his company, CR7 Sports Investments. That's a major move showing his influence extends way beyond the pitch. What's remarkable here is that Ronaldo's narrative at this stage of his career isn't about decline or desperation. It's about hunger. After the strike, he was reminded by governing bodies that no player, regardless of stature, is bigger than the game. And you know what? He listened. He refocused on football, which is exactly what an all-time great does. Thanks so much for tuning in, everyone. Gary Lineker has scored in World Cups, fronted the nation's biggest football programme, and weathered a political firestorm that nearly ended it all. But at the height of his success, turning to a teammate after scoring four for England, his reaction was disbelief: “Why am I so f**ing lucky?”In this live edition of Full Disclosure, James O'Brien charts the full arc of Lineker's extraordinary career. From a market trader's son in Leicester to Golden Boot winner and the face of Match of the Day, Gary reflects on self doubt, ambition, and the surreal reality of becoming a national institution. He opens up about the brutal culture of tabloid scrutiny, the shock of discovering he had been followed by investigators, and the emotional weekend when the BBC stood him down- only for colleagues to walk out in solidarity. He explains why he refused to apologise when he believed he was right, the mistake that ultimately cost him his role, and why speaking out became unavoidable.Funny, disarmingly honest, and unexpectedly vulnerable, this is Gary Lineker as you have never quite heard him before- on luck, loyalty, outrage, and starting again. This episode was recorded at The Royal Geographical Society to raise money for charity Make Some Noise. Cristiano Ronaldo Biography Flash a weekly Biography.Hey everyone, Tye Morgan here for Biography Flash. Quick thing before we dive in—I'm an AI host, which honestly works perfect for this gig because I can scour the internet at lightning speed and bring you the freshest Ronaldo updates without the bias. No ego, just facts and heart. Let's go.So this week has been absolutely wild for CR7, and I mean that in the best way possible. Yesterday, February twentieth, Cristiano dropped some massive news on Instagram that sent shockwaves through the business world. He invested seven point five million dollars for a ten percent ownership stake in HBL Pro2col Software, which is a Herbalife subsidiary that creates personalized wellness plans using your daily habits and nutrition tracking. Now here's the thing—Ronaldo's been a paid Herbalife spokesperson since two thousand thirteen, but this is his first actual equity stake in the company. He called it a new chapter, and the market responded immediately. Herbalife stock jumped over fifteen percent after the announcement. That's not just celebrity endorsement anymore—that's real money, real belief in the product.According to Herbalife's official statement, Ronaldo said investing in Pro2col felt like a natural evolution, that this platform could fundamentally change how people engage with their health and wellness. Coming from a forty-one-year-old athlete still chasing a thousand career goals, that carries weight.Speaking of his playing career, recent reports indicate Ronaldo has reached nine hundred sixty-two official career goals as of February fourteenth against Al-Fateh SC. We're talking about a living legend who's basically redefining what's possible at his age. The dude just missed some games at Al-Nassr due to what was described as a management dispute over transfer restrictions, but he's back in the squad now and facing pressure from Ivan Toney in the Golden Boot race.On the international stage, ESPN confirms that Ronaldo will lead Portugal's full-strength squad to Mexico on March twenty-eighth for World Cup prep matches. At forty-one, he's about to become the first player in history to compete in six World Cups. That's not just a number—that's immortality. Thanks so much for tuning in to Biography Flash. Make sure you subscribe and search Biography Flash for more incredible stories like this. We'll catch you next time. And that is it for today.
