Author of "Drugs As Weapons Against Us" John Potash joins again to share his research for his newest documentary "CIA Drugs R Us", a dive into how the CIA has used illicit substances against the masses for decades all while framing it as "sticking it to The Man". We talk about how the hippie movement was essentially baked in a lab and used as dedicated MKULTRA test subjects, as well as avenues the MKULTRA may still be operating today through government sanctioned programs such as MAPS (The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) and cultural arenas such as Burning Man. John's research reveals that many "alternative" subcultures are not as the appear at first glance. Dr. Sylver Quevedo and Raghu jam on psychedelic preparation and integration, the MAPS MDMA studies, a Ram Dass ketamine story in India, and how 'love, serve, remember' connects to Indigenous wisdom.“One of the cardinal features that's been learned in the second psychedelic renaissance in the clinical trials has been the importance of two things that were not really understood that well in the 1960s—that is, preparation and integration. By contrast, one of the things that really was discovered early on and articulated very well by Ram Dass and Timothy Leary, was the importance of 'set and setting.' That has survived. It was figured out early on, never went away, and has been rediscovered over and over again.” – Dr. Sylver Quevedo Raghu and Sylver dive into:Taos, New Mexico; the Pueblo people; and the Neem Karoli Baba Ashram in Taos which houses the radiant and emotive Hanuman murti who jumped the ocean from India with Ram Dass and friends back in the day Working with MAPS (The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) on their monumental MDMA for PTSD trials Psychedelics and love in the 1960s compared to psychedelics and science in the 2020s Ram Dass giving the "yogi medicine" LSD to his Guru, Neem Karoli Baba (Maharaj-ji) How Ram Dass and Maharaj-ji's lessons of "love, serve, remember" applies to Indigenous wisdom The transformational neural-plasticity and heart-opening properties of tryptamines and phenethylamines A fascinating Ram Dass on ketamine in India story, and Sylver's out-of-body revelation on ketamine"In the 1960s, we were mostly young and naive kids. But on the other hand, the ideals that came through there were real, even if we were misguided and naive about a lot of things like psychedelics. Now that science is part of the reality, in terms of the truth: the love and unity that we were pursing in the 1960s was a worthy cause." – Raghu MarkusAbout Dr. Sylver Quevedo:Dr. Sylver Quevedo is a psychedelic researcher who has practiced medicine for over 40 years and played major roles in world health projects. Ibiza is no stranger to the use of MDMA. It's regularly used as the party drug of choice on the island, but when we noticed clinical trials happening stateside to treat social anxiety and PTSD, we jumped on a call to New York to find out more with leading psychotherapist, Will Siu. Will works with MAPS - The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies which researches the medicinal utility of psychedelic substances. Trials with MDMA have been on going for quite some time and in todays episode our presenter Jo Youle chats to Will about his experiences with patients using the 'heart opening' drug to aid his practice. But first we catch up with the Around the island walker, Laura Green from ireland, who landed on the island this week to take on the 253 km challenge after she won her free space on the walk through this podcast. Join us this week as we celebrate Laura's landing and learn about how the trials will potentially be approved in the long term and also how Ketamine explorations are also underway by MAPS. www.theresetrebel.com https://maps.org/
We're on the cusp of a profound cultural shift. Amidst a depression epidemic and huge numbers of veterans and others suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, psychedelic-assisted therapy offers a powerful new – and scientifically-proven – hope for the future. For decades, Rick Doblin, the founder and Executive Director of MAPS – The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies – has worked to bring psychedelic medicines into the mainstream. And now his hard work is paying off. We spoke to Rick at Breaking Convention 2017, one of dozens of major psychedelics research conferences now taking place around the globe. The USA is both at the forefront of prohibition and clinical research in these areas. We dig into the upcoming FDA rulings on Phase 3 clinical trials for MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for people suffering from PTSD, and what the Trump administration means for the future of this groundbreaking work. Rick explains why he's so optimistic about the future of non-profit drug development, despite Big Pharma's love of patents and profits above the health and wellbeing of the population. If today we're experiencing a Psychedelic Renaissance, we ask Rick to reflect on the lessons we have to learn from the '60s so that it doesn't all go up in flames once again. A key strategy which Rick strongly advocates is a worldwide Psychedelic 'Coming Out'; he reveals that MAPS has been assembling a list of high-profile people ready to come out of the psychedelic closet en masse – and we encourage you to join their ranks. But beyond the policies and cultural trends, there are deeply personal stories to tell. Rick opens up about his ow history and what's driven him to pursue this mission despite decades of opposition. He talks about his relationship with fear, growing up in the shadows of the Holocaust and the Cold War, as well as sharing a beautiful story of how taking MDMA and speaking with his grandmother opened up a whole side of family history that she'd never been able to share before. Jon and Dre share their own stories of using psychedelics for mental and social health, and we reflect on how to cultivate the best life we can live, together. Host Dr. Richard Louis Miller interviews Dr. Rick Doblin, Historic Founder, and Executive Director, of MAPS: The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, now celebrating its 25th year as the world 's foremost pharmaceutical organization specializing in psychedelic medicine research.
MAPS (The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) is a non-profit research and educational organization dedicated to developing legal medical applications for psychedelics. Knee-deep in the FDA approval process for several substances, their research has begun to bear fruit, perhaps most notably in their staggeringly successful use of MDMA to treat PTSD. Brad and I discuss these studies, as well as the undeniable societal, spiritual and philosophical shifts that would occur, in a world where psychedelics are accepted as valuable, powerful personal medicines that are to be respected, rather than chemical boogiemen that are meant to be avoided at all costs.
