As a child, you probably heard a few times: ‘I want doesn't get' or ‘I want never gets', especially if you were raised in Great Britain. You were probably also explained that the reason for this was that ‘you have to ask for things in a more polite way and say I would like, may I please have etc. It's often used with children when they ask for things in, what is interpreted as, a rude way. And the chances are your 5-year-old self took this as ‘I mustn't ask for what I want'. Unfortunately, as you grow older this deep-seated belief shows up in many aspects of your life without you even realising it. I want this, but I can't ask for it. This little phrase ‘I want never gets' used to really trigger me and I used to tell people ‘If you don't ask you don't get'! But most recently I had a whole new perspective on this. As I understand more and more about our brain, our thoughts and how they create our reality I realised something really ground-breaking! The truth is ‘I want' does NOT get you what you want, because you don't believe in it. You don't believe you deserve the thing you want. This is one of the main reasons you hide behind ‘I don't know what I want'. What you are really saying is that ‘I don't believe I deserve it, what I want is impossible, I am afraid I won't get it, I am afraid I might lose it!' And here is the bombshell: I want doesn't get you want, because in your mind I want = I don't have it. Which means you are still focused on NOT HAVING it! As you already know, what you focus on, grows within you. So how do you get what you want in life? The simple answer is: Focus on ‘already having it'. You might be thinking: ‘How can I focus on something I don't have? How can I pretend I have it?'… Well, you do this all day long, without even realising. Think about all the ‘unwanted' scenarios that you create in your mind when you fear something or when you are uncertain about the outcome. They are not true, have not yet happened, but you create/go through every detail in your mind as if it were true. If you can do that about something negative/unwanted, you sure can do that about something you want. It is like daydreaming, something you have the innate ability to do so and, yes something you believe you must stop doing because it is not good for you (told the teachers when you were 5, 6, 7, etc.) How do you get what you want in life? Knowing what you want and being who/what you want before you even have it. If you want to find out more exactly how to do that, just book a clarity call with me now using the link below: https://www.tulaymasseycoaching.com/CALL

“A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” — Proverbs 10:4At Faith and Finance, we believe the Bible offers timeless financial wisdom—and sometimes, that wisdom shows up in the form of gentle correction. Let's face it: we all make financial missteps—some intentional, others unintentional. But every mistake is an opportunity to grow in wisdom and stewardship. If you've made some poor decisions with your money, don't let Proverbs 10:4 discourage you. Instead, take heart in Proverbs 19:20:“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.”Let's walk through six money mistakes that can quietly erode your wealth—and how to avoid or correct them with diligence and wisdom.1. Living Paycheck to PaycheckOne of the most common financial traps is spending everything you earn. When there's nothing left over at the end of the month, you're missing an essential part of wise stewardship: saving. The solution? Pay yourself first.Start by setting up an automatic transfer from your checking account to your savings. Even if it's a small amount, consistency is key. Adjust your monthly spending to fit what remains. Yes, it might mean cutting back on things you've grown used to, but almost everyone can trim something from their budget.Aim to save at least 10% of your income. Over time, this will build your financial margin and peace of mind.2. Not Having an Emergency FundWithout savings, every unexpected expense becomes a crisis. And that leads to our next mistake—debt.Once you've begun setting money aside, build your emergency fund. Start with a goal of three months' worth of living expenses and work your way up to six. This financial cushion protects you from having to rely on credit when life throws a curveball.3. Paying Interest on Consumer DebtWithout savings, many people make the costly mistake of using credit cards to cover emergencies. If you carry credit card debt, the biggest mistake you can make is only paying the minimum. Take a close look at your statement—it may show how long it'll take to pay off your balance at the minimum payment. The number might shock you: 15 years or more.Reframe your spending by asking, "What is this really costing me?"A $30 dinner paid with a credit card could cost $60 or more by the time it's paid off. That's not good stewardship.4. Buying a New Car (When You Can't Afford It)There's nothing wrong with buying a new car—if you can pay cash for it. That's the key.Instead of taking on car loans, aim to pay cash for your vehicles, new or used. After you pay off your current car loan, keep making those same “payments”—but to yourself. Put them in a savings account and use that money to purchase your next car.It may take a few vehicles to get there, but eventually, you'll be able to pay cash—and that will be a glorious day.5. Not Opening a Roth IRAEspecially if you're young, not opening a Roth IRA is a missed opportunity for long-term, tax-free growth.Once your emergency fund is in place, consider contributing to a Roth IRA, even if you're already contributing to a 401(k) at work.In 2025, you can contribute up to $7,000 annually to a Roth IRA—or $8,000 if you're age 50 or older. Because you're contributing after-tax dollars, your qualified withdrawals in retirement will be tax-free.That's a powerful way to build lasting wealth.6. Buying Too Much HouseHomeownership can be a blessing, but only if approached wisely. Spending too much on a house can strain your budget, robbing you of financial flexibility and peace.A manageable mortgage, combined with consistent savings, puts you on a path toward financial stability and positions you to honor God with greater freedom and generosity. We all make mistakes with money, but we don't have to stay stuck in them. God's Word is full of grace and wisdom. When we humbly receive correction and take steps toward diligence, we grow not only in financial strength but also in spiritual maturity. So, whether you're just beginning your financial journey or recalibrating after a few missteps, remember that wisdom is always available to those who seek it.“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.” — Proverbs 19:20Let's walk in wisdom and let our money reflect our trust in the One who provides everything. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I have a disabled son, and I would like to leave him some money without attorneys or the government taking it away from him. Is there a way to do that?I'm retired but still working a few days a week, and my Social Security is deducted from my paycheck. What happened to that Social Security? Do I get it later? How does it work?I have a 401(k), and I'd like to know how I can invest according to my values with the options available in it. The only options are big companies that I'd rather not invest in. Do you have any suggestions? We recently sold our house for a good profit, and I'd like to know how we tithe on it. Do we tithe on the full amount we received or only on what goes above the initial price and the interest we paid on it?I left a job and rolled my 401(k) over to my current employer's account. I also have another 401(k). Should I combine them or keep them separate? I'm also getting a car accident settlement. Should I use it to pay off my car loans and credit cards or invest it and continue making payments?I'm 58 and still working, with my house and car paid off. When is it appropriate to redo my will? Is it time to do a trust? Or when is that the wise thing to do?Resources Mentioned:Faithful Steward: FaithFi's New Quarterly MagazineList of Faith-Based Investment FundsWisdom Over Wealth: 12 Lessons from Ecclesiastes on Money (Pre-Order)Look At The Sparrows: A 21-Day Devotional on Financial Fear and AnxietyRich Toward God: A Study on the Parable of the Rich FoolFind a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) or Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC)FaithFi App Remember, you can call in to ask your questions most days at (800) 525-7000. Welcome to episode 71 of the One for the Money podcast. I am both glad and grateful you have taken the time to listen. In this episode, I'll share about an estate plan checkup, for those that have one and for those that don't. In this episode...Importance of Estate Planning [1:03]Review and Update of Estate Plan [2:34]Consequences of Not Having an Estate Plan [4:38]An estate plan is an absolutely crucial part of one's financial plan. Over a lifetime you accumulate assets—real estate, investment accounts, a classic VW van, etc. When you pass away, there needs to be an orderly way for these assets to be distributed to those people you want to receive them. An estate plan is the way to carry out your wishes. Otherwise, the state of your residence, i.e. California, Hawaii, Texas, etc, will decide how it is divided up amongst your family. And if your estate is of significant value, you'll have a lot of people claiming to be your family. Because estate planning is a critical piece of better planning it is one of the five financial planning domains I focus on with my clients. These five domains are investments, income (aka cash flow), Insurance, taxes, and Estate planning. Of those five domains, estate planning is the one most often ignored and that makes sense for a few reasons. We usually have a long time before we have to worry about it so it's easy to put it off and the second reason is that no one wants to consider their own death. It's rather depressing. But despite these facts, it's incredibly important that any adult who owns real estate and or has children must have an estate plan. For those who already have an estate plan in place, I say well done! You should commend yourself for doing what far too many do not. But even if you already have one it's important to complete a periodic check-up of your plan. Here is when to consider a checkup:First, When was the last time your estate plan was reviewed? If it has been ten years or more you will want to review it to ensure it reflects your current desires and circumstances and that the people who are assigned as the decision-makers are the people you still want. The second reason to consider a check-up is if there have been substantive changes in your life or the life of your beneficiaries. For example: marriages, divorce, births, adoptions, or even challenges faced by your beneficiaries (such as health events or substance abuse) all of which can change how you might wish to distribute your assets. Additionally, moving to a new state can affect your estate plan due to differing laws, so a review is advisable when relocating. Now if you have reviewed your estate plan and everything reflects your current desires and circumstances the next thing you need to do is ensure your loved ones know about it. Do they know where to locate the documents in the event they are needed? Do the people who will make the financial and medical decisions on your behalf, know they have that responsibility? It would be helpful to rehearse such a scenario to see how it plays out. The military practices scenarios to ensure they have made the necessary preparations as do firemen, policemen, lifeguards, and other professionals. It would be wise to consider what would happen if you and your spouse were incapacitated and couldn't make a decision-what would happen then. Would the person named in your durable power of attorney documents know they are making the decisions and what you wanted them to decide? This is especially relevant for those of you in the later stages of life (70s and above). An older family member of ours recently had a health event, that put our preparations to the test. For a year before we had expressed the need to get the estate planning documents in the hands of the decision makers only until this recent scare had this been remedied. It's wise to...

Procrastination on Retirement Savings: Start saving early to leverage compound interest and develop strong financial habits. 2. Underestimating Retirement Expenses: Plan for all potential costs, including healthcare, inflation, and unexpected lifestyle expenses. 3. Ignoring Asset Allocation: Adjust your investment strategy as retirement approaches to balance risk and ensure financial stability. 4. Overlooking Tax Implications: Understand how taxes impact your retirement income and implement strategies to minimize your tax burden. 5. Not Having a Withdrawal Strategy: Develop a sustainable plan for withdrawing funds from your retirement accounts to ensure long-term financial health. This is the 3rd episode of a five-part series on The Daily Coffee Pro by Map It Forward Podcast, hosted by Map It Forward founder, Lee Safar. Our guest for this series is US-based industry veteran, Madeleine Longoria Garcia. Having returned from the SCA Expo in Chicago, this series is focused on exploring 'The Conversations We're Not Having in Coffee That We Should Be Having". In this episode of the series, Madeleine and Lee discuss the importance of coffee growers gaining confidence in dictating their pricing and choosing their customers for sustainability and profit.
