Project 2025's introduction makes it clear that the very existence of LGBTQ people is under threat, and that includes cutting off access to fiction that represents us. Because most queer fiction is published in the US, that means access could be dramatically restricted for everyone worldwide. And even if Project 2025 isn't rolled out, state-level challenges are unlikely to slow down anytime soon. Laura Green from the Sapphic Book Review podcast joins Kris and Tara for this important bonus episode to talk about the very real and current threats against the books we love, and share tangible steps that anyone can take, whether you live in the US or not. What if there was a place you could go in your grief and be both perfect and broken? That's the kind of place Laura Green dreamed up with her friend and co-founder, Sascha Demerjian. Together they created The Grief House, a community space for people to explore grief through movement, conversation, creativity, and care. Since she was very young, Laura can remember being afraid of death. Afraid of losing everyone and everything she cared about, especially her mother. Three years after starting The Grief House, Laura had to face that biggest fear when her mother, Grace, died in the summer of 2023. We discuss: Laura's current grief expression - clay Why she feels so lucky to be her mother's daughter The fear of death she's had as long as she can remember How her mother's death story has influenced Laura's grief story Why it was so important for Laura to spend time with her mother's body The physicality of death and grief The Grief House's origin story What Laura and her co-founder are dreaming up next for The Grief House Listen to Laura and co-founder Sascha on their podcast, Portals. PTs can work just about anywhere, including the exclusive niche market of running comedy content creation on Instagram. And that's exactly what Dr. Laura Green has done. She has traveled the world to work as a PT in some amazing (and not so amazing) places. She has also turned her lifelong love of running into a side hustle that became her main hustle: funny videos about running on social media. This path let her travel the world (again) while helping create a community in the running world that we didn't know we needed.
Laura is current one of the leading running personalities on social media, but backs up her fame and humor with some serious chops as a runner.
Andy and Dom trade pines for cactuses as they get an exclusive interview with UTMB whistleblower “Steepthroat” and try to convince everyone's favorite runner @lauramcgreen to finally run an ultra.
We talk a lot about decision making for birth- Where might you choose to birth your baby? Do you want an epidural? Should you have an induction? etc etc.. but the decision making (and the impact of those decisions) actually starts MUCH earlier on in pregnancy. This week I am exploring all of this with friend and community midwife Laura Green, whose approach to informed choice, birth education and advocacy makes my heart sing! She brings a brilliant insight and balance to this conversation through her experiences both working inside the maternity system and supporting families privately outside of the NHS- always centring women and families at the heart of her care. It is a conversation steeped in warmth, evidence, nuance and honesty- everything I love a 'bit of' here at birth-ed!In this week's episode we chat about:- What's going on in maternity services and how is this impacting rates of intervention?- What are the common things in pregnancy that might affect our birth experience? (Screening for Gestational Diabetes, Low PAPP A, Routine Scans, Growth Scans etc)- How to navigate these decisions in pregnancy and understand the longer possible impact of these decisions.- How to advocate for yourself once your decision has been made. This episode is worth listening AS EARLY ON in pregnancy as you can. Though even if you're due soon or have had your baby, it will hopefully give you some perspective on your experiences so far.So, set aside an hour, grab a pen and paper if you can, and enjoy!______________________________________Laura Green LinksLaura's WebsiteFollow Laura on InstagramBirth-ed LinksJoin free- BUMP CLUB- expert week by week support throughout your pregnancyJOIN the Online Course from £40/$49Group and Private Antenatal/Hypnobirthing Courses with podcast host and birth expert Megan Rossiter________________________________________This episode is sponsored by OR Collective. In Episode #53 of the More Than Miles Podcast, physical therapists Dr. Kate Mihevc Edwards and Dr. Kacy Seynders interview former collegiate runner turned running comedian, Laura Green. Laura started running in middle school and says that running has been interwoven into her life ever since then. She went on to compete in high school and collegiate track and cross country and since college has been involved in the running scene training for road races from 5k to marathon distances and trail races. She is trained as a physical therapist, and worked in this field for a while, but has more recently transitioned into a career as a social media influencer and comedian. You can now find Laura posting videos on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube and gaining sponsorships from various running brands and companies. During the interview, Laura talks about some of the factors she finds so funny (and easy to poke fun at) about running culture such as gear, race superstitions, running moms, and runner nutrition. Dr. Kate and Kacy talk to Laura about some of her transition from PT to professional joke teller and what a “typical day looks like” in the life of Laura Green (HINT: the recap of this line of questioning is HILARIOUS!). They also talk about some of her upcoming adventures including her preference for races that are NOT the marathon. She talks about some of the marathon destination races that she has been sponsored to participate in and the locations that she says she could be bribed into going to (HINT: it is NOT Chicago or New York). They also talk about the very real phenomenon of increasing shoe size after having children and Dr. Kate and Laura bond over their often hard to find running shoe sizes. As her YouTube channel description suggests, Laura is “Just here trying to get people to laugh at themselves more often.” Laura does not take herself too seriously and part of the draw of her humor is the often self-directed jokes and lighthearted look at running culture. Laura also talks about how she gets inspiration for her jokes and her brief foray into standup comedy. One of her popular skits is: “We're all just running around…” We could not stop laughing during the interview with Laura and we think you will LOVE this episode too!
If you like to laugh at smart humor, give a listen to this episode featuring Instagram and TikTok running funny gal Laura Green. Hosts Sarah and Molly try to keep up (Molly definitely does!) as Laura shares: -her start in content creation, based partly on post-partum reality; -brands' reactions to her poking fun at them; -the embarrassment she needs to overcome to film her Reels; -how mom-guilt influences her professional life; and, -the darker side of being so active on social media. Molly gives a knee-replacement update before Laura joins the jolly conversation around 8:30. When you shop our sponsors, you help AMR. We appreciate your—and their—support! She is a lifelong athlete who we hear was a stand-out in everything, including a unique artistic expression she coined, air-violin. She is an OG November Project coach, physical therapist, and runner. Laura is also the originator of Folk Tale Film, where she creates Family Films, Legacy Videos, and brand features. In addition, she's an east coaster, wife to Connor, and mom of two abnormally large young boys. And with that said, I think it's time to queue up this episode and listen for yourself. In this episode, we discuss: - the beginnings of her reel craze - loving the process of creation - capturing the beauty of running but in a funny way - staying grounded - the false illusion of time - living life with no regrets - adventure in Nepal - entry into sports - competitive and working to be the best - worth is not dependent on race results - surrounding yourself with good people - following your passion - creating boundaries - are her stories too risky? - current relationship with running - vision for the future Namaste- Jess
