“Six months down the line, I had a meeting with my agent and they said ‘Noone really wants to pursue you guys anymore, I think they want to wait for the next year's to come along.' And that hurt.” After winning the second series of Love Island in 2016, where he met his partner Cara, Nathan Massey was catapulted into a life of fame and fortune, but he quickly realised that it wasn't going to last. Nathan and Scott both express their appreciation for the opportunities the show provided them, but address the challenge of processing their fleeting moment in the spotlight and the lack of support they received after leaving the villa. Nathan talks about how his wife and son have kept him on the right path and why family life has taught him the dangers of continually comparing yourself to others. The boys are joined by Cara who highlights the adjustments in their mentality and behaviour that they have both made in order to live healthier, happier lives. “Everything is mindset. It doesn't matter what you thought before. Let it go. Believe that you are the person you think you are, and go with that.” James O'Keefe founded the therapeutic retreat organisation, Unguarded Warrior, where he helps groups of men process their past and let go of the judgement and expectations that weigh them down. After beginning his own journey of processing the emotional baggage he had been clinging onto throughout his life, he has gained a better understanding of his identity and strives to help other men to do the same. He speaks to Scott about how, as a young teenager, he became caught up with his older brother's friends, leading him down a dangerous path of antisocial behaviour and criminal activity. You'll hear how he teaches people to adopt an abundance mindset by placing them in difficult and often uncomfortable situations in which they have to connect more deeply with themselves and others and how James himself practices what he preaches in order to live a more peaceful and fulfilling life. “There's so much more out there that I'm exploring now that I didn't really care about before. When I go on my walks now, the bird song and trees rustling, it's just like love to me and brings me so much pleasure I can't describe it.” Scott is joined by his mum, Gail Waring, to discuss their shared journey to sobriety and the challenges they have both faced with regards to their relationship to alcohol. Working as a hospital nurse, Gail developed a daily habit of using alcohol in the evenings to relax and wind down, leading to increased social anxiety and additional unhealthy choices. You'll hear how after many years of using alcohol to escape the pain of confronting childhood trauma, she was inspired by Scott's decision to go sober and saw it as an opportunity to create a better life for herself. Gail talks about how mindfulness, therapy and journaling has helped her through her sobriety, and how she has discovered a new zest for life, now she is excited for each day and feels she can be more present with the people she loves. “Don't give up. Even when everyone is doubting you, don't give up. Resilience is the one thing that'll get you to where you need to be, just don't give up.” “Look at what you've been through and ask yourself, are you living a life less than the one you deserve? Are you happy? And if you're not, believe me right now, you have so much power inside you to change that for the better.” In this week's episode of Learning As I Go, Scott talks to childhood friend and business partner Eden Thomas, with whom he co-founded lifestyle brand Food4Thoughts which focuses on a holistic approach to people's self-development/wellbeing. Eden shares how his traumatic three and half year journey to recovery from leukaemia taught him that he could achieve whatever goal he set his mind to. You'll hear him discuss how he felt his life lose all meaning in the early stages of his chemotherapy and the stages he went through to rediscover what life meant to him, culminating in a long and tiresome battle to earn a pilot's license with British Airways. Eden and Scott talk about the importance of self-belief and determination, and how overcoming their own struggles led them to build a company that could help people achieve their own goals and give them the tools to chase their dreams. “Talk to a loved one, talk to a friend, because if you don't talk to anyone how are they supposed to know what's going on in here? If you're struggling with a mental health issue, how are people going to know unless you talk?” In this week's episode Scott is joined by Cormac Murphy, who became a close friend after meeting in 2018 at PHD nightclub in New York City. Cormac began working in bars and nightclubs across the city and eventually built up a successful event business as one of the only Irish promoters in town. However, the social pressure and exuberant lifestyle of the nightlife scene led him down a path of substance misuse and addiction, specifically alcohol and cocaine. You'll hear them discuss how developing suicidal tendencies during the height of his cocaine use motivated him to move back to Ireland where his parents helped him get into rehab, how working as a personal trainer and helping other's get in shape has helped him to stay disciplined and the importance of speaking out about mental health issues in order to kick start your journey to recovery. Krysis Mikhaal. I knew him when he was just Krysis. Before he'd written for the likes of Mic Lowry and was 3 projects into an incredible soulful sound. We talk about his last few projects looking at the nuances that make his music his, his journey into singing and approaching it from the perspective of a Sound Engineer and what it's like to write for other artists. One of the things I've always enjoyed about his music is how much soul is put in and throughout the episode Krysis explains how puts together music, his creation process and what he thinks about his own sound. Enjoy!

Wriinkle Podcast #015! Quick bit of housekeeping; Wriinkle Podcasts will be coming out every other Monday from now on but we’ll be bringing you more stuff with different types of podcasts being released in between WPs (also keep your eye on our Youtube channel). More details very soon. In this one we’re speaking to Ben Sharples from MiC LOWRY – they’re a vocal harmony boy band from Liverpool. Ben talks to us about the lads getting signed by a major record label before they’d had a chance to properly start making music of their own. He’s very candid about the amazing experiences they’ve had from that point to now but also about the less positive aspects of being picked up by a commercial entity at such an early stage. Some funny stories in this about the situations they’ve found themselves in and some great insight in to the kind of stuff that goes on at the upper echelons of the entertainment industry. Instagram: miclowry / ben_sharples Twitter: @wearemiclowry Let us know what you think – also anyone who you’d like to see us speak to Twitter/Insta: @wriinkle Email: community@wriinkle.com Nice one!
