I sat down with Koen DeWitt, and his story is a powerful reminder of what resilience really looks like. Koen grew up in a home where emotions were never spoken, and he carried that silence into adulthood. When he left corporate life to dive in Thailand, he expected a fresh start. Instead, he survived the 2004 tsunami and had to rebuild everything from the ground up. Koen opened up about the setbacks that followed, from business betrayal to a sudden heart surgery. What impressed me most was his willingness to keep choosing growth instead of staying in the pain. Today he helps entrepreneurs find purpose and stability in their own journeys, and his story encourages all of us to keep going even when life feels overwhelming. Highlights: 00:00 – Learn how early family patterns shape the way you handle pressure as an adult.02:14 – See how breaking out of routine can open unexpected paths to personal growth.04:33 – Understand why facing fear head on can transform the way you move through life.06:48 – Explore how rebuilding your identity starts with acknowledging what you've avoided.09:12 – Learn how to recognize the signs that you are living from performance instead of purpose.11:40 – Hear how setbacks can become the turning points that redefine your direction.14:28 – Discover why trusting the wrong people can still teach you the right lessons.17:05 – Understand how health challenges can clarify what truly matters in your work and life.19:44 – Learn how choosing honesty over emotional silence creates real resilience.22:31 – See how helping others through their struggles can deepen your own healing. About the Guest: Koen De Wit is a marketing strategist, coach, and former diving instructor who's rebuilt his life more than once — not by choice, but by necessity. Originally from Belgium, his early life was shaped by emotional distance, chronic illness, and the pressure to stay useful. That same drive helped him build successful dive businesses across Asia — until betrayal, trauma, and collapse forced him to start over. Twice. In 2004, Koen survived the Asian tsunami that killed 300.000 people and wounded many more. After 18 surgeries and no access to rehab or emotional support, he pushed forward the only way he knew how: by working. He became one of Thailand's leading diving instructor trainers. But behind the achievements, he carried the weight of trauma and over-responsibility. That way of surviving — through control and performance — eventually stopped working. In 2017, after losing his business again, Koen turned to digital marketing as a last resort. What began as survival became a calling. Today, he helps coaches and service entrepreneurs rebuild their business structures so they stop burning out and start creating something that feels right to run. His work blends strategy and structure with the emotional clarity most people avoid. Koen lives in Thailand with his wife and son. He doesn't believe in hustle or hype. He believes in clarity, calm systems, and work that gives back more than it takes. Some people hit walls that should have taken them out. Today's guest, Ernie G, built staircases out of his. If you have ever felt behind, broken, late to the party, or unsure of what you are capable of, this one will hit you straight in the heart. In this episode of Amiga Handle Your Shit, Jackie sits down with empowerment comedian and speaker Ernie G, a man who has spent decades transforming audiences with a mix of humor, heart, and radical self-belief. On stage, he is funny. In community, he is powerful. In life, he is a walking reminder that reinvention is real and joy is medicine. But what makes Ernie's story different is not the familiar arc of struggle to success. It is the way he turned every breakdown into raw material for a breakthrough. Not by pretending everything was fine. Not by pushing down the past. But by using every part of it as proof of capacity.Raised by a single mother. Kicked out of college. Lost. Depressed. And later, years into a successful speaking career, he survived a cardiac arrest while performing on stage. He should not be here. But he is. And he is louder, clearer, and more committed than ever to the message that saved him.Tune in to episode 258 of Amiga, Handle Your Shit, if you are ready to stop waiting, stop assuming joy belongs to someone else, and rise into your own capacity.Episode Takeaways:The early story he once hid, and how owning it became medicine for others (05:20)The unexpected moment that revealed his natural gift for moving people with words (08:40)The discovery that shifted everything: “If it is to be, it is up to me” (11:20)The birth of empowerment comedy and how he essentially invented the lane he now leads (15:40)Why action creates clarity and why waiting for perfect conditions keeps us stuck (18:00)The near-fatal cardiac arrest that forced him to rewrite how he cared for himself (20:50)The lesson he teaches now: happiness is not a luxury, it is service (25:00)How he finally attracted real partnership by turning inward instead of outward (27:20)Why the conversations in our heads are either hurting us or healing us (34:10)What to do when you cannot figure out your path: follow what sets your soul on fire (36:00)Connect with Ernie G:WebsiteInstagramXFacebookLet's Connect!WebsiteFacebookInstagramLinkedInJackie Tapia Arbonne's websiteBook: The AMIGA Way: Release Cultural Limiting Beliefs to Transform Your Life Hosted on Acast. What started as a $1.11 leap of faith has become a living legacy—and the strategic growth company for high-earning women ready to scale beyond the hustle. For over 30 years, I've had the honor of coaching over 100,000 business owners and entrepreneurs to scale into consistent, freedom-based profitability by engineering their sales systems, upgrading their identity, and building businesses that run with or without them.As a single mom running multiple businesses, I know firsthand what it's like to feel stuck, broke, and overwhelmed while longing to create real change. In 1994, I faced my own “HOLY CRAP” moment—a divorce that left me with two suitcases, my daughter, and $200 to my name. That moment became the catalyst for a complete life redesign.Fast forward to today: I'm the founder of The One-Eleven Network, a multi–7-figure coaching and consulting company built on grit, strategy, and a dollar and eleven cents. Over the past two decades, we've helped thousands of entrepreneurs scale their businesses with clarity, confidence, and systems that work.At the heart of our success is the Cash Flow Compass™, a 5-pillar system designed to help business owners with:➡ Mindset that expands capacity without forcing more➡ Sales that land at premium price points without apology➡ Time that prioritizes money-making moves only➡ Profit that's protected, not just earned➡ Automation that makes your business work for you—and make you money while you sleepThis holistic approach is why our clients stop hustling and start scaling quickly, strategically, and profitably.Along the way, I've sat at the table with the best—Mark Victor Hansen, Bob Proctor, Jack Canfield, Lisa Nichols—and learned what it takes to build a business that thrives without sacrificing your life.Whether it's through our signature group masterminds, online training, or our innovative AI clone KANDILAND™, we provide the proven strategies, frameworks, and support women need to scale their businesses with clarity and confidence—without ever leading alone.I've been featured on CNBC, The Business Journal, HuffPost, HGTV, and more—but the spotlight isn't on me. It's on you: your results, your clarity, and the freedom you finally get to keep.
If you've been telling yourself you have “imposter syndrome,” this episode is going to rewire that narrative completely. Because what you're feeling isn't a diagnosis it's a self-belief wound you inherited from childhood, trauma, or years of internalizing other people's projections. In today's Proper Madness episode, Sabi breaks down why so many of us cling to the label imposter syndrome when the truth is simpler, harder, and more liberating: You don't trust yourself… yet.Inside this conversation, we explore:Why imposter syndrome is often an escape hatch from facing your real beliefsHow childhood conditioning shapes self-trustThe difference between paranoia, intuition, and discernmentWhy your body often knows the truth before your mind doesHow comparison + perfectionism fuel low self-worthWhat it actually takes to build unshakeable self-beliefReal stories from Sabi's healing journey (addiction, identity, trauma, authenticity)If you've been struggling with self-doubt, fear of being seen, or constantly chasing validation outside of yourself — this episode will meet you exactly where you are. You're not an imposter. You're just unplugging from the beliefs that were never yours. And you're allowed to become the version of you who finally trusts your own voice.
We explore how a 1950s Harvard rat study reveals the power of hope, then turn it into three practical strategies to build belief: borrow confidence, recall rebounds, and practice self-cheering. Stories from training and obstacle races bring the ideas down to earth with clear, usable steps.• Why hope extends endurance and effort• Borrowing belief from trusted people when confidence is low• Turning past “sinks” into a rebound archive• Using physical examples to train mental courage• Practicing your own cheer with specific, repeatable reps• Framing wins by completion and growth, not placement• Setting a small challenge to build belief todayTake something away from every single one of our conversations and put it into practicehttps://aarondegler.com/
We hear a lot about self esteem these days. Why it matters, how to get more of it, and what it means when you feel like you do not have enough. Most people think that improving their self esteem will automatically make them more confident, but to create real and lasting confidence, they are missing something essential: self belief. In this episode, I am breaking down the difference between the two and explaining why self belief is the skill that actually moves your life forward. You will also learn why your brain resists confidence in the first place and how to work through the fears that keep you playing small. I really enjoy seeing these posts from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) every day where he always offers some form of encouragement. “A message for today … A reminder: growth takes time, patience & courage — especially in moments no one sees. Every small step you take now is building a future you'll be proud of. Keep going even when it's hard. One day, the future you will be so grateful you didn't give up.” This is something that I see connecting with so many people in today's world, including myself. Little things, small steps in our everyday choices can make a huge difference - even if at the time we are taking those small steps, we may not see it. The quote he posts that goes with his thoughts above, helped me to see that I am not alone and that I need to share this message for today. I also was reminded from a former student and player of mine that posted a very similar post about going through tough times and sharing that we are not alone along with the little steps she keeps taking in living her best life. Take this with you and share it with others. Thanks for listening. Austin Current, author of The Science of Strength Training, joins me for a deep dive into what “optimal” really means - and doesn't mean - in training, coaching, and everyday life.We explore how perfectionism, online debates, and unrealistic standards can derail people who simply want to train well, feel good, and live a sustainable lifestyle.Austin shares insight on:• Why keeping promises to yourself builds self-belief• Why it's better to view your effort like a dial, not an on/off switch• What he means by a Goldilocks zone in training and life• The messy online war over what is “optimal”• Why “good enough” is truly enough for most people's exercise technique• How to think about fatigue, form, and technique without overcomplicating training• Whether two-a-day sessions are useful or unnecessary• And much moreCHAPTERS00:45 The Importance of Self-Belief and Keeping Promises03:39 Balancing Professional and Personal Life08:51 The Concept of 'Good Enough' in Fitness and Life18:10 RP Strength and Personal Training Insights22:03 Form, Technique, and Injury Prevention in Training30:55 Training to Failure - Observations and Beliefs32:33 Client Progress and Adaptation34:07 Technique vs. Form - A Deeper Dive35:40 Pattern Recognition in Training37:14 Effective Coaching Cues43:37 Two-a-Day Training Sessions - Pros and Cons50:19 Final Thoughts and RecommendationsSUPPORT THE SHOWIf this episode helped you, you can help me by:• Subscribing and checking out more episodes• Sharing it on your social media (tag me - I'll respond)• Sending it to a friend who needs thisFOLLOW ANDREW COATESInstagram: @andrewcoatesfitnesshttps://www.andrewcoatesfitness.comPARTNERS AND RESOURCESRP Strength App (use code COATESRP)https://www.rpstrength.com/coatesJust Bite Me Meals (use code ANDREWCOATESFITNESS for 10% off)https://justbitememeals.com/MacrosFirst (nutrition tracking)https://www.macrosfirst.com/KNKG Bags (15% off)https://www.knkg.com/Andrew59676Versa Gripps (discount link)https://www.versagripps.com/andrewcoatesTRAINHEROIC - FREE 90-DAY TRIAL (2 steps)Go to https://www.trainheroic.com/liftfreeReply to the email you receive (or email trials@trainheroic.com) and let them know I sent you

In this episode of Mental Fitness Conversations, host Mundanara Bayles chats with Aaliyah Bula - a proud Tongan, Wiradjuri and Kamilaroi woman, athlete and community leader - about what mental fitness means to her. Aaliyah’s journey is one of strength, connection and cultural pride. Aaliyah has always balanced her passion for culture with her drive in sport. She’s played Open Women’s footy with the Redfern All Blacks and continues her rugby league journey with the Canterbury Bulldogs U19s Tarsha Gale squad. In 2025, she joined the Wests Tigers NRLW as a development player. Aaliyah’s insights remind us that mental fitness is about surrounding yourself with people who lift you up, staying proud of where you come from and trusting your own path. Whether you’re an athlete, a student or just navigating life’s ups and downs, this episode is a reminder that small actions - like leaning on your mates, practising gratitude and staying connected - can make a big difference to your mental wellbeing. Today's guest has rewired modern hip-hop. His fingerprints live all over the last decade but the real story behind that success is far more human, painful, and transformative than the headlines ever show. In this conversation, he opens up about the highs and lows of being a producer in hip-hop: the pressure, the politics, the contracts, the moments that nearly broke him, and the breakthroughs that almost didn't happen. He also shares the lessons shaped by fatherhood, betrayal, and real perseverance — all while creating some of the most important and culture-defining music of our time. And The Writer Is... Hitboy! This week on the Science for Sport podcast, host Richard Graves is joined by boxing legend Johnny Nelson MBE, the longest-reigning cruiserweight world champion in history. With a story that spans early losses, a transformative mentorship under Brendan Ingle, mental resilience, structural discipline, and elite-level performance, Johnny offers a rare window into the mindset and preparation of a world-class athlete. From his humble Sheffield upbringing through a gritty apprenticeship in Europe to standing atop the world with 13 title defences, Johnny reflects on the physical demands of his sport, the mental architecture that carried him, and how those lessons translate into high-performance sport science environments today. Whether you're working with elite athletes, exploring pathway development, or investigating the interplay of mindset, culture and performance. This episode delivers actionable insight. You'll Learn * How deliberate structure and environment in the early years set Johnny's foundation for world-class performance, and what that means for athlete development pipelines in elite sport. * The interplay between physical conditioning and mental readiness: why Johnny argues that even 99% physical fitness isn't enough without mental strength to match. * How a coach/mentor adapted learning modality to individual athlete needs (story-based learning vs. written instruction) and how that insight translates to sport science practice. * The “apprenticeship phase” of elite athletes: why Johnny spent six years as a sparring partner across Europe, what he learned about failure, character-building and resilience, and how that maps to athlete development models. * The transition out of elite competition: Johnny's reflections on his own injury-forced retirement, loss of gym identity and how elite sport practitioners can support athlete exit and long-term wellbeing. * Practical take-aways on environment design, multicultural team culture, and creating performance contexts that simulate hostile or challenging conditions (drawing on Johnny's anecdotes of gym culture and travelling abroad). About Johnny Nelson Johnny Nelson (born 4 January 1967, Sheffield) turned professional in 1986 after a modest amateur career. He trained under iconic coach Brendan Ingle at the Wincobank gym in Sheffield, where he developed not only boxing skills but a mindset of relentless belief and self-validation. In March 1999 he captured the WBO Cruiserweight World Title and held it until his retirement in 2006—during which he defended it 13 times, the most ever in cruiserweight history. Post-career, Johnny has built a prominent role as a boxing pundit, keynote speaker, and mentor around mindset, resilience and high-performance culture. After decades in beauty and brand-building, celebrity colorist Kadi Lee and entrepreneur Myka Harris have created something refreshingly intentional: Highbrow Hippie, a Venice-based salon and lifestyle brand where artistry, wellness, and conscious living intersect. In this warm and unfiltered conversation, Kadi and Myka reflect on the long road from blog to brick-and-mortar, the failed investor partnership that taught them everything, and the intuition-meets-data mindset that guides their business decisions. They share how they built a community long before products, and how that trust became the foundation for a loyal global following. From the quiet luxury of their five-chair atelier to the holistic rituals behind their hair health line, the duo opens up about creating culture, hiring slow and firing fast, and funding a beauty brand on their own terms. They speak candidly about the realities of entrepreneurship as Black women, the exhaustion of the grind, and the unglamorous but necessary balance between creativity and financial fluency. With humor, honesty, and hard-won wisdom, Kadi and Myka remind us that building something enduring isn't about chasing perfection; it's about alignment, resilience, and the courage to keep going when no one else sees the vision yet. You'll Learn:[00:00] Introduction[02:37] How a Venice salon became a sanctuary where beauty and wellness truly intersect[06:44] The holistic insight that turned hair health into a wellness story, not a vanity one[09:52] Why pairing intuition with data changed everything in their product development process[12:26] The reason community came before product and how that built lifelong brand trust[15:03] What it takes to lead with values and speak truthfully, even when it polarizes people[18:32] How two longtime friends turned complementary strengths into a thriving partnership[20:10] The hidden cost of the grind and what “balance” really looks like for women founders[23:14] Why creatives must master business to sustain their artistry long-term[32:18] How losing the wrong investor opened the door to raising money on their own terms[36:52] The single mindset shift that helps them push through every obstacleUse code MAKERS15 for a discount at www.highbrowhippie.comResources Mentioned:Dream Ventures Accelerator | WebsiteHighbrow Hippie | WebsiteFollow Highbrow Hippie on Instagram.Follow Myka on Instagram and LinkedIn.Follow Kadi on LinkedIn.Follow Nancy Twine:Instagram: @nancytwinewww.nancytwine.comFollow Makers Mindset:Instagram: @makersmindsetspaceTikTok: @themakersmindsetwww.makersmindset.com

It's something we do for someone." —Johnny-Juan Ortiz Sales gets a bad rap. For many, it feels pushy, sleazy, or manipulative. But what if the truth is the opposite? Real sales is truly about helping someone solve a problem, and the ability to sell is the very skill that keeps doors open, businesses alive, and families thriving. Starting in straight commission sales at 19, Johnny-Juan Ortiz built over three decades of experience where every paycheck depended on his ability to believe in himself first. That journey shaped him into a respected business coach and speaker who now teaches entrepreneurs, leaders, and professionals that selling the right way is service, strategy, and love in action.
