Matthew Sweet ponders the relationship between cinema and cats and features some of its best film feline scores including Roy Webb's ‘Cat People', Danny Elfman's music for Catwoman in ‘Batman Returns' and naturally enough ‘The Aristocats'. Also in the programme is Henry Jackman's "Puss Suite" from Puss In Boots, Bruce Broughton's 'Homeward Bound', Kira Fontana's 'Kedi', Yuji Nomi's 'The Cat Returns' for Studio Ghibli, Christoper Young's 'Pet Sematary', Hans Zimmer's 'The Dark Knight Rises', and some of Michael Giachino's Cat Woman score for the new 'Batman' film. Matthew also takes a look at the recently released 'The Electrical Life of Louis Wain' starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy, with music by Arthur Sharpe. The story of an Edwardian cat-lover and artist, which has a digital and DVD release this month.

Ze besluiten hun schoondochter Lorna in huis te nemen op hun ranch, samen met hun kleinzoon Jimmy. Drie jaar later hertrouwt Lorna met een zekere Donnie. En die Donnie blijkt een verschrikkelijke hork met losse handjes, afkomstig uit een gewelddadige maffiafamilie. Hij neemt Lorna en Jimmy stiekem mee naar North-Dakota. En dan gaan Margaret en George verbeten op zoek gaan naar hun kleinzoon. De muziek bij Let him go werd gecomponeerd door de Amerikaanse componist Michael Giacchino, die de spanning voelbaar wist te maken met bedrieglijk ingetogen strijkersklanken en een beetje couleur locale toevoegde door subtiel ingevlochten stukjes western-gitaar. Giacchino schrijft niet alleen voor film en televisie, maar ook voor games - in 2004 won hij een prijs met zijn muziek voor het spel Call of Duty. Pixar sí que sabe cuándo y cómo volver. Si había un momento para arriesgar, para demostrar que su marmita de talento sigue en estado de ebullición, era el inicio del verano y de las vacaciones escolares. La factoría del flexo saltarín recupera a los juguetes más entrañables de la historia para removernos de nuevo por dentro y para despejar cualquier atisbo de duda sobre la grandeza de un gran capitán de equipo: el viejo vaquero Woody. ‘Toy Story 4' es el gran estreno de la semana y lo calibramos en este capítulo con dos críticos de ‘Fotogramas', la revista decana de la prensa cinematográfica española. María Aller se erige en defensora de esta continuación de una historia que parecía cerrada y Ricardo Rosado se viste de poli malo para poner los ‘peros' a una cuarta entrega que se le antoja un poco forzada. Con todo, ‘Toy Story 4' llega aclamada por la crítica y se perfila como el estreno perfecto para toda la familia durante estos días, salvo que otro tipo de público, poco amigo de juguetes de los 90, prefiera ver en pantalla a un lagarto mastodóntico peleando a muerte contra maléficos titanes que amenazan a la Tierra. Es lo que propone el otro gran ‘blockbuster' de la semana: ‘Godzilla: El Rey de los Monstruos', en el que la Humanidad, con la ‘Eleven' de ‘Stranger Things' como pieza clave, necesita fichar al mismísimo titán japonés para salvar el pescuezo. Un pulso desigual que acabará ganando el último regalo de Pixar y que propicia, por anticipado, que celebremos su victoria en el diván de las bandas sonoras. En la sección especial de hoy: ‘La Magia de Pixar', Ángel Luque nos ofrece una degustación de algunos de los temas menos explotados de la factoría, pero que llevan el sello de algunos de los mejores compositores contemporáneos.
