This Week Lee and Daniel are yet again joined by friend Jack Graham to cap off the extended look into both Gene Hackman and 1990s thrillers with Peter Hyams' remake of "The Narrow Margin" (1952), "Narrow Margin" (1990). Does this train ride take too long or does it have one hell of a sexy caboose? The host's also talk about what they've watched as of late. Buy the ticket, take the long, slow ride through misidentified Canadian geography. "Narrow Margin" IMDB Listen to Daniel and Jack on the I Don't Speak German podcast. Daniel's Bluesky.

Once you do, you can participate in all upcoming all-request programs. Before we get into today's episode, we must first discuss its origins. On October 30, 2023, I worked late into the evening to complete the first ALL REQUEST HALLOWEEN SPECIAL. The audio was recorded, tracks were chosen, and the editing was finished. I tried to export the show, and to my horror Adobe Audition crashed. I restarted the application and tried again. Same result, but this time I received an error message indicating that my voice-over file was corrupt. It took nearly an hour to record the voiceover and several hours to edit the episode. I was also in the midst of one of my busiest years ever, so I didn't have the time or energy to do it all over again, so I informed my Patrons that the show would be postponed and rescheduled for this year! Thank goodness I have a wonderful community of patrons over there, they understand and waited patiently for the show to be done. Fast forward almost 365 days, and here we are; everything has been re-recorded, re-edited, and... I am pleased to announce that the show has been successfully exported for you to enjoy today! For this first ever Patreon All Request Halloween Special show, you get to hear some spooky favourites from the biggest supporters of the Cinematic Sound Radio Podcast including Alan Rogers, Al Brown, Glenn McDorman, Don Mase, Will Welch, Angela Rabatin, Deniz Çağlar, Jérôme Flick, Stacy Livitsanis, Lee Wileman, Joe Wiles, Jeffrey Graebner, Victor Field, Eldaly Morningstar, Steve Karpicz, Dave Williams and Carl Wonders. Welcome to our yearly miniseries on the Brandenburg Concertos of J. S. Bach! Here we jump into Brandenburg 6, delighting in the weirdness that results when Bach decides to omit violins, preferring a dark, low sound of violas, violas de gamba, cello, and violone. This brings us to some more examples across Bach's oeuvre, as well as some others by Brahms, Bruce Broughton, and John Williams. As any creative person knows, setting limitations for yourself -- "no violins", for example -- is actually a good strategy for stimulating creativity, and results in a more unique creative output. How fortunate for us, then, that Bach seems to agree. Brandenburg 6 - movement 1 - Netherlands Bach Society Other pieces that were used as audio examples: BWV 18 (cantata with 4 violas and no violins) - Netherlands Bach Society BWV 80 (Ein feste burg), middle movement (unison chorale) - Netherlands Bach Society Brahms - A German Requiem - movement 1: University of Chicago Orchestra, University Choir, Motet Choir, Members of the Rockefeller Chapel Choir, James Kallembach, conductor (recording used under Creative Commons Attribution Non-commercial No Derivatives 3.0 license) - refer to the first entry on this IMSLP page Other pieces that we talked about, but did not play as examples: Bruce Broughton - score from Tombstone (1993) - Gunfight at the O. K. Corral (4 bassoons can be heard in the first minute of this scene) John Williams - score from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) - Hogwarts Forever (French horn quartet) (can be heard from 0:00 - 1:50)

On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, the film music community lost one of its greatest recording engineers, Mike Ross-Trevor. His collaborations with composers such as Jerry Goldsmith and Bruce Broughton have become legendary in the film music world. Jason Drury had the pleasure of speaking with Mike in February 2018 for the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST. The two show shows can be heard at cinematicsound.net It was with great sadness that Jason learned of Mike's passing since he had many happy recollections of their interview and Mike has remained a close friend. So, Jason decided to produce a new program by utilizing remastered interview clips from 2018 and by playing some of the fantastic music that Mike was associated with. To give the program a distinct and intimate feel, Mike Ross-Trevor will be the only voice heard throughout, narrating his own recording career and sharing a few memories of the amazing sessions he worked on. Siskoid Cinema presents... No Escape from Kurt Russell, the show that explores the filmography of one of American cinema's best leading men and tries to get a handle on his mystique. Why is it we'll watch anything so long as Kurt Russell,s name is attached to the project? On its inaugural episode, Siskoid and Chris Franklin discuss 1993's Tombstone. A western in the 90s?! The umpteenth retelling of the gunfight at the OK Coral?! Yeah, but Kurt Russell is in it. And hell's comin' with him! Listen to the episode below, or subscribe to FW Team-Up on Apple or Spotify!

Today you get to enjoy the fourth show programmed by one of our patrons from the CONDUCTOR TIER over at our Patreon page. In this tier, which is $10 USD ($14.50 CAN), donors get all of the benefits of lower tiers PLUS they earn the opportunity to program their very own personal one-hour(ish) show once a year. Victor Field, a long-time fan of the show, took advantage of this opportunity and this is the show that he put together for us to enjoy! So, how did Victor get into soundtrack collecting? This is what he had to say... I was born in England but my dad moved us to his home country of Barbados in 1976. I spent my childhood and teen years there before coming back to England to live in 1993. One of first album purchases was TVT's double album "Television's Greatest Hits". I think it was I didn't want to be listening to what everyone else around me was, I'm still kicking myself that I was so late to discover taping from the TV. I once asked my dad why we never went to see "Star Wars" (I refuse to call it "Star Wars: A New Hope") in the cinema? He said I never asked! Although I did go to see "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return Of The Jedi". I haven't seen any of the Special Editions. As with all of the Patreon Playlist shows, this one is a varied and eclectic program featuring music from various eras of film and TV. You'll hear selections from Basil Poledouris, Alfred Newman, Jerry Goldsmith, Dave Grusin, Barry Grey, Derek Wadsworth, Danny Elfman, Craig Safan, Bruce Broughton, Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard, John Williams, and Brad Fiedel. Enjoy the podcast, and thanks for all of your efforts in curating this playlist, Victor! —— Special thanks to our Patreon supporters: Matt DeWater, David Ballantyne, Joe Wiles, Maxime, William Welch, Tim Burden, Alan Rogers, Dave Williams, Max Hamulyák, Jeffrey Graebner, Don Mase, Victor Field, Jochen Stolz, Emily Mason, Eric Skroch, Alexander Schiebel, Alphonse Brown, John Link, Andreas Wennmyr, Matt Berretta, Eldaly Morningstar, Jim Wilson, Glenn McDorman, Chris Malone, Steve Karpicz, Deniz Çağlar, Brent Osterberg, Jérôme Flick, Alex Brouns, Aaron Collins, Randall Derchan, Angela Rabatin, Michael Poteet, Larry Reese, Thomas Tinneny, William Burke, Clint Morgan, Rudy Amaya, Eric Marvin, Stacy Livitsanis, Rick Laird, Carl Wonders, Michael Poteet —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN. Fantastico!
This week we're dipping back into the world of TV. Why, you ask? Because we can do whatever we want! Only 90s Kids may remember the phenomenon known as Dinosaurs, an ABC sitcom that ran from 1991 to 1995 and followed the adventures of dinosaur Earl Sinclair and his prehistoric family. Produced by the Jim Henson company, Dinosaurs was not only a marvel of live-action puppetry, but also just some damn funny television. And in 1992, they produced the album "Big Songs". You'd think this would be a compilation of songs from the show, right? Wrong! This album features twelve tracks recorded by the show's cast exclusively for the album. And most surprising of all, many of the songs are quite good! Join us as we dive in! SHOW NOTES: Dinosaurs is available to stream on Disney Plus You can listen to this album on YouTube See also: Our episode on The Mask Christmas Creeps' episode on The Munsters' Scary Little Christmas INTRO: "Dinosaurs" theme by Bruce Broughton and Ray Colcord OUTRO: "I'm a Dinosaur" by Baby Sinclair Have a soundtrack you'd like us to cover? Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
Welcome to the latest edition of TALKING SOUNDTRACKS on THE CINEMATIC RADIO PODCAST NETWORK. IVORY WAVE is an experimental horror short that unsettles an audience while asking them to empathize with sudden tragedy. Much of Ivory Wave appears to be dreamlike- suspended somewhere just outside the bounds of reality. The film asks the viewer to surrender themselves to the immersive story. The slight disorientation that is presented mirrors how one might feel when in a drug-induced state. Brilliantly, the film surrenders itself to this disorientation as the lead loses himself to grief and substance abuse. The music for the film, written for string quartet and bespoke modular electronics, was by award-winning composer and conductor LEANNA PRIMIANI. In October 2021 for TALKING SOUNDTRACKS via Zoom, Jason Drury had the pleasure of talking with Leanna Primiani at her studio in Santa Monica, California. During the interview, they talked about IVORY WAVE, her career to date and her future musical plans as well as playing excepts from IVORY WAVE and more from this new talent in film music. To listen to the complete Ivory Wave score, head over to her Bandcamp page by clicking HERE! Barry and Abigail interview family friend Ian Rees to discuss his latest project, a solo album called Panic Induced Love. Ian discusses many of his musical influences along the way, including The Beatles, Yes, Primus, Radiohead, Sigur Rós, Animal Collective, and Steve Vai. Ian also discussed composer Bruce Broughton, who worked with his father on Disneyland Paris's CinéMagique attraction, as an influence on his decision to pursue a career as a soundtrack composer. Abigail describes Panic Induced Love as an “edgier version of Owl City.” Ian shared that the track Reasons (A Love Song) was inspired in part by Sleepyhead by Passion Pit. Ian also shared that the track Feathers was inspired in part by Phone Call, a track from the soundtrack to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Everyone discussed their fascination with depressing, complex lyrics that are masked bouncy music, including Jumper by Third Eye Blind. Or just depressing but powerful lyrics like the album Hospice by The Antlers. Ian plays every instrument on every track. SIX! SIX! SIX! THE NATURE OF THE BEAST! Yeah, we're back, and this time.. it's personal. Fueled by Eric Roberts following us on Twitter (and our inevitably cease & desist letter), Episode 8 finds us in a contemplative mood as we discuss 1995's THE NATURE OF THE BEAST (along with its controversial director) and 2014 DOC HOLLIDAY'S REVENGE (aka STRANDED), which is only controversial for being absolutely terrible. We are joined by the luminescent Tonjia Atomic, who is really way too talented to be stuck talking about Eric Roberts movies for 90 minutes, yet here we are! This one is a little late, but it's worth the wait. And you don't want to miss what's coming next! As always, check out ERIC ROBERTS IS THE MAN on Twitter, or come chat ER (or anything else) on our Facebook group. To keep up on the latest Tonjia Atomic news, head over to http://www.tonjiaatomic.com/ which will lead you to a bunch of social media goodness. Make yourself happy by checking out her latest film PLAIN DEVIL over on Amazon. As always, The Roberts Report was JAM PACKED. Discussed were: The teaser trailer for the upcoming HP Lovecraft-inspired film BLACK WAKE directed by Jeremiah Kipp. The film features Tom Sizemore, Nana Gouvea and – of course – Eric Roberts. And it just finished production! We also discussed an upcoming ER appearance in the TV show THE PLAYER starring Wesley Snipes as a former intelligence officer working as a security expert in Las Vegas. HOW WONDERFUL. And we talked briefly about the Bill Duke-directed Nat Turner biopic NAT TURNER: STORY OF A PROPHET featuring Keith David, Blair Underwood, Mike Epps and ERIC ROBERTS. Let's hope the movie is better than this weird poster. Music for this episode: Break #1 – “The Number of the Beast” by Iron Maiden Break #2 – Music from the film TOMBSTONE composed by Bruce Broughton. Break #3 – “Doctor Doctor” by The Thompson Twins Don't forget to head over to iTunes to subscribe and rate the show. If you like it.. tell a friend! Our theme song is (unofficially) officially endorsed by ERIC ROBERTS! Also, all three parts from The Takeaway series "Real People / Best Pictures" (produced by Kristen and hosted by John Hockenberry) are here, with some voices we don't normally hear on Oscar night (but maybe should). In this week's Movie Date podcast, Rafer and Kristen recount their encounters with wildlife in the city and ponder the ways that dance-offs are better than shoot-outs. It's all in honor of the animated feature, "The Nut Job," the buddy cop comedy, "Ride Along," and the spy thriller, "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit." Rafer and Kristen also weigh in on the Oscar nominations, which were announced this Thursday. And there's a big trivia-related mea culpa as well!
