We're in the presence of royalty this week, it's award winning actress (and phenomenal Queen Elizabeth II) Claire Foy! Mum really pulled out all the stops to make the most regal of afternoon teas for our star of 'The Crown' - homemade madeleines, mini trifles and even coronation chicken sandwiches. Claire is fresh from making her latest film 'H is for Hawk' and we heard all about the training process she went through to become a Goshawk handler. We also discover Claire is a sucker for a dessert, would love to star in Six The Musical, is always surprised when actors want to work with her, loves a Cosmo, she suffered for years with stomach parasites, loved working with Brendan Gleeson, and we discover her dream meal is her mums special home made spag bol, which has been recreated by her all over the world perfectly! Claire's new film 'H is for Hawk' is out in cinemas now, and it's beautiful. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This week's episode of the Empire Podcast sees Chris Hewitt sit down with two wonderful guests — first, we strap Chris Pratt to a chair (metaphorically speaking, that is) and ask him about his new thriller, Mercy, in which he does battle with an A.I. judge played by Rebecca Ferguson; [25:50 - 40:14 approx] and then Claire Foy, star of this week's moving drama, H Is For Hawk, drops by the office to talk about working with goshawks and Gleeson, Brendan. [1:13:07 - 1:32:55 approx] Both are delights, we're sure you'll agree. Either side of those, Chris is joined in the podbooth by Helen O'Hara, James Dyer and, briefly, Beth Webb for a fun episode in which they reveal their specialist subject on Mastermind, discuss great movie doctors, review No Other Choice, Saipan, Mercy, The History Of Sound, and H Is For Hawk, and go all-in on Oscar nominations discussion in a bumper-sized movie news section. It's all here, apart from the bits we cut out. Enjoy!

Nick looks back at Season 44 of Saturday Night Live, a year that found the show in strong form and introduced Ego Nwodim as a standout new cast member. The regular lineup was stacked with reliable heavy hitters, including Heidi Gardner, Kate McKinnon, Alex Moffat, Mikey Day, Pete Davidson, and more, giving the season a solid mix of energy and consistency. The host list was just as impressive, with turns from John Mulaney, Sandra Oh, Idris Elba, Don Cheadle, and a deep bench of memorable appearances. Highlights from episodes hosted by Emma Stone, Awkwafina, Claire Foy, Paul Rudd, Adam Sandler, Adam Driver, Emma Thompson, and James McAvoy get their due, along with context around the musical guests and what was happening behind the scenes. It's a thoughtful, entertaining walkthrough of a season that delivered laughs, strong performances, and plenty of moments worth revisiting. [Ep 157]

Irish actor Brendan Gleeson has said that he is tired of watching fatherhood portrayed in negative terms on screens. This comes after he starred in ‘H is for Hawk' alongside Claire Foy, this film follows Cambridge academic Helen MacDonald who, while coping with the grief of her father's death, builds an unlikely friendship with a stubborn hawk named Mabel.Gleeson went on to say this particular film is so beautiful in the way that that's what it's trying to do. The memory of this man is that he was a proper, good man who gave love to his daughter. What do you think? Is fatherhood negatively portrayed on screens?Andrea is joined by listeners to discuss.

If all you know of this movie is the steamy, swoony Andrew Scott/Paul Mescal press tour, well get ready to have your heart broken. Andrew Haigh's “All of Us Strangers” is as much about the curious courtship of Adam and Harry as it is about grief, letting go of the past and feeling like a ghost in this world. Jamie Bell and Claire Foy's Best Supporting Dad and Mum will make you weep at some point, and that ending is a real kick in the sticks, but it's also all so beautiful and cathartic that it's worth getting to know these strangers. They discuss Haigh's unconventional narrative choices used to tell the story of a man connecting with us long-lost parents, the performances from the loaded cast that included Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Jaime Bell and Claire Foy and much more! Then, Josh and Ben talk about the newest film from German filmmaker Christian Petzold, “Afire” (1:05:04-End). This month's theme is WOMEN IN CRISIS and crisis is coming in a variety of ways. Sometimes women can go insane and maybe they need to be admitted to a facility but maybe they don't really need to be in that facility? Perhaps it's all just a trauma response because she might have a stalker. What kind of crisis is this? An insanity crisis or a stalker crisis? Maybe both? We're discussing Steven Soderbergh's somewhat covert 2018 thriller “UNSANE” starring Claire Foy, Jay Pharaoh and and Joshua Leonard. The whole thing is filmed on iPhone because why not? Steve is just out here Soderberghing. We get into the details so you should go watch it if you're a mood for a mental mystery thriller with a heaping dose of medical care criticism. Who can't relate? There's a lot of terrible things you might be able to relate to in this movie. The movie All of Us Strangers is a wistful fantasy drama that tells two intersecting stories about different kinds of love: One between a son and his long-deceased parents; the other of two lonely men and neighbors who long for connection. Directed by Andrew Haigh, the film stars Andrew Scott as Adam, a TV writer living a lonely existence in London, and Paul Mescal as his neighbor Harry. Adam's parents are played by Claire Foy and Jamie Bell.
"All Of Us Strangers" had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, where it received universally positive reviews for its beautifully intimate story of a middle-aged gay man reconciling with the past trauma of losing his parents at a young age, all trying to form a new connection with his neighbor in a mostly empty high-rise apartment building. The Next Best Picture team conducted a series of interviews from the time of its world premiere, through its screening at the New York Film Festival, all the way up until its theatrical release with several people involved in making the film. First, we have Dan Bayer's interview with director and writer Andrew Haigh, followed by my interview with the film's composer, Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch. We then hear Ema Sasic's interview with actress Claire Foy and Bayer's interview with star Andrew Scott. Then we return to me again for my interview with cinematographer Jamie D. Ramsay, and we end everything with Sasic speaking with actor Jamie Bell. Each one has something unique to say, and all of them were kind enough to lend us their time to talk about this special film, which you can listen to below. Please check out the film, which is now playing in theaters from Searchlight Pictures and is up for your consideration in all eligible categories at this year's Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
