Today we are joined by actor, producer and writer Nicole Pacent to talk about everything from jealousy, to commitment, to starting new relationships and transitioning in others. For the first time, Nicole talks about uncoupling from a long-term partner who is a parent to her son and the difficulty navigating this when there is no social script. We also talk about the risks of being out as Poly, the power of radical honesty and myths around Poly people and feeling jealous. Note this ep does include specifics about mental health and losing people we love (and hope it's helpful for some of you processing your own losses). This episode was edited with help from Daniel Zafran.

Are you riding the relationship escalator? Maybe you are and don't even know it! Actor, Writer, Podcaster, and Educator Nicole Pacent (Coming Out with Lauren and Nicole) joins us to talk about how we consciously, and subconsciously, model our relationships based on the escalator model. How does media and society shape our thinking around what makes a successful relationship? Why aren't monogamous couples communicating the terms of their relationships like many polyamorous couples? What is the goal in any relationship? We explore these questions and many more on this thoughtful episode about love, happiness, and dying alone. Plus, Melody reveals the new competitive sport she's taken up, while Carolyn embraces her inner hippie. Finally, we end on a question from a listener who has found her "person," even though that person perhaps doesn't want to be found. Black lives matter. By the end of this, you’re just gonna want to go listen to another podcast, called Coming Out with Lauren and Nicole (@ComingOutPod). Because our guests this week are the hosts of that show! Lauren Flans (@lauren_flans) and Nicole Pacent (@nicolepacent) were part of a workshop at the Los Angeles LGBT Center about coming out, and when they could not find a podcast on the subject they started their own! You may recognize Nicole from our two part Poly Party episode, and rest assured this episode is just as badass. Lauren and Nicole go through both of their coming out stories, one of which resembles the complexity of a short film. This then reminds Heather of a pretty solid anecdote. Of course, when pod creators sit down with other pod creators, there’s always a good discussion about the impact the podcast has had on your life. But when they get to the GROSS stories, it involves a literally award-winning tale that takes the cake over any shitting-your-pants story we’ve ever heard...even though it did not happen to anybody appearing on this episode. Following this is one way to receive a sexy-looking vampire bite, and one reason never to travel to Germany. Don’t listen to this, Kyle. We have MERCH! Go to teepublic.com and go craaaaaazy!! And our brand spankin’ new website dirtygirlpodcast.com is good to go, so go check it out! Thank. You. Lauren. And. Nicole. Again, to reiterate, go listen to @ComingOutPod! And thank YOU for listening! The production is produced by Heather Ann Gottlieb, Cameron Tagge, Alex Salem, and Tristen Bankston. The theme song vocals are vocalized by Natalie Sharp. The artwork is worked by Kevin Laughlin. The distribution is distributed by WhoHaHa.
- How do we even start to break down gender conventions? - Are we able to critically look at art while taking what we need from it? - Just how does one raise inclusive kids? These are just a few of the questions Joe and guest Nicole Pacent dug into on this episode. Nicole is the co-host of the FABULOUS podcast "Coming Out: with Lauren and Nicole" where folks tell their coming out stories to the hosts for the first time. Here at The DTALKS Podcast we're all about educating and empowering you to raise inclusive kids and episodes like this one with Nicole go a long way towards that goal. #ComingOutPod #beabetterdad Be sure to go nominate Joe's other podcast - "After the Encore" for "Music Podcast of the Year" at PodcastAwards.com you have to register to vote but it's one time only.
