Youth Pastor Attempts To Kill 5 Kids & Wife Before Burning House Down

In a shocking revelation, Matthew Richards, a 41-year-old youth pastor from Shawnee, Kansas, is facing grave charges of attempting to kill his wife, five children, and committing arson at his own residence. Authorities have detailed the alleged events that transpired on the early hours of September 16.    The Chilling Accusation  According to the Shawnee Police Department, on September 16, firefighters and police officers arrived at Richards' residence on Goode Drive at approximately 3:47 a.m. This was in response to alarming reports of a disturbance paired with a fire. On inspection, a fire was identified in the basement and promptly doused by the responding firefighters.    Subsequent investigations painted a horrifying scene. All members of the family, including Richards' wife, Stephanie, their 19-year-old child, and four younger children, sustained laceration injuries, with the police noting the injuries were of "varying degrees." In connection with this, Richards now stands charged with five counts of attempted premeditated first-degree murder and an additional count of aggravated arson with the risk of causing bodily harm.    Both Richards and the injured family members were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.    Richards: The Man Behind the Accusation  Richards, a key figure at the Crossroads Christian Church since August 2016, is described on the church's website as “a big kid who loves teaching little kids about Jesus.” The biography goes on to provide insights into his personal life, highlighting his marriage with Stephanie since 2003 and their five children. They uphold three cardinal family rules: 1. Love God, 2. Love People, and 3. Love Sports, with particular affection for the Jayhawks and Sporting KC.    However, in the wake of these serious allegations, there's a palpable dissonance between the family-oriented, religious figure depicted in his biography and the grim charges he currently faces.    Church's Response to the Incident  The gravity of the situation did not go unnoticed by the senior leadership of Crossroads Christian Church. Senior Pastor Kurt Witten took to an official platform on the very day of the incident, stating, "We are aware of the situation involving our Children's Pastor, Matt Richards." He further noted the church's intention to gather more information and assured the congregation and community of a comprehensive statement in due course. Pastor Witten urged for respect considering the ongoing nature of the investigation and solicited prayers for the beleaguered Richards family.    Ongoing Investigation  Authorities remain committed to piecing together the exact sequence of events leading up to that fateful morning. As the investigation delves deeper, Richards is held on a $5 million bond, reflecting the severity of the accusations against him.    The unfolding of these events has understandably left the Shawnee community in a state of shock. Such incidents remind us that appearances can be deceptive, and even the most unsuspecting individuals can harbor dark secrets. As the investigation progresses, the community and the church await clarity on this tragic incident, hoping for justice and healing for all those involved.    In these testing times, Shawnee unites, with many focusing on supporting the Richards family and praying for their speedy recovery. It remains essential to respect the ongoing investigation, allowing authorities to carry out their duties in the pursuit of the truth. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Kouri Richins Can't Stop Lying! Latest Lie: Jail Letter Is A Manuscript!

The bizarre saga surrounding Utah mom and author, Kouri Richins, just took another dramatic turn. Richins, who gained infamy for writing a book about grief following the alleged murder of her husband, now insists a suspicious letter retrieved from her cell was, in fact, a snippet from a new work of fiction she's crafting.    For context, Kouri Richins, after purportedly orchestrating the death of her husband Eric Richins, penned a heart-wrenching tale titled “Are You With Me?”. It's a book that chronicles grief, written only a year after she allegedly poisoned her spouse with a lethal Moscow mule infused with fentanyl. These actions were clouded by rumors of an extramarital affair and Eric's looming suspicions, having once shared with a close friend that Kouri might be attempting to poison him. The suspicion further intensified when, following Eric's untimely death, Kouri was set to close a whopping $2 million deal for a grand 22,000-square-foot home, a deal her husband had previously declined to fund.    In a recent development, last week, authorities discovered a six-page handwritten letter, titled “Walk the Dog,” in Richins' cell. This document, directed to her mother, Lisa Darden, allegedly contained a 'playbook' on how to coach her brother into validating a false narrative about Eric Richins' drug acquisitions from Mexico prior to his fatal overdose. Prosecutors were quick to interpret this as a brazen attempt at witness tampering.    However, in a twist that can only be described as audacious, Richins' defense, in freshly filed court documents, asserts this letter is merely a fragment of a fictional story Kouri is penning about her imaginary stint in a Mexican prison. According to the court filing obtained by Fox 13 Now, Richins clarified to her mother, “When I first got in here I was telling you how I was writing a book … those papers were not a letter to you guys, they were part of my freaking book … I was writing this fictional mystery book.”    Attempting to further distinguish her "fictional" account from reality, Richins expounded upon her story, sharing how it involved a quest to Mexico in search of drugs and eventually led to her incarceration in a Mexican prison. This narrative, however far-fetched, is being presented as the explanation for the questionable letter.  What amplifies the absurdity of these claims is the sheer audacity of Richins' recounting, even suggesting she'd asked her attorney, Skye Lazaro, to smuggle in teeth-whitening strips due to the excessive coffee consumption in her fictional Mexican jailhouse.  Richins' attorney, Skye Lazaro, while defending her client, expressed their intention to further contest the State's allegations and emphasized the impropriety of making the letter public.  However, defense attorney Steve Burton, though not linked with the case, offered an analytical perspective to KUTV, stating, “In a case like this, you want to try to protect against convicting somebody before all the evidence is out.” Yet, he acknowledged the implausibility of Richins' narrative by noting the difficulty of explaining her sudden switch from truth to fiction.    The intrigue doesn't end there. Richins recently underwent a seizure due to being administered the incorrect medication at the Summit County Jail, where she's currently incarcerated. This medical mishap subsequently led to the discovery of the controversial letter.    Given the circumstances, Richins' defense has moved to accuse the state of breaching its gag order by releasing the letter, suggesting it might influence potential jurors.    Amid these convoluted twists and turns, one thing remains clear: Kouri Richins, whether crafting tales of grief or elaborate fictional adventures in Mexican prisons, consistently finds herself enmeshed in stories of deception. The challenge for the courts and the public will be distinguishing the facts from the fiction in this puzzling narrative. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? The case of Kouri Richins, which has taken multiple unexpected turns, leaves many scratching their heads. Recently discussed on the podcast "Hidden Killers," hosts Tony Brueski and clinical and forensic psychologist, Joni Johnston, delved deep into the baffling behaviors and decisions of Richins. As the narrative unfurls, one must ask: Is Kouri Richins living in a world of denial, or does she genuinely believe she's always the smartest person in the room?    "The rollercoaster of Kouri Richins continues...It's a manuscript for a book now," exclaimed Brueski. Richins, who was previously scrutinized for penning a children's book on grief after allegedly murdering her husband, was found with a letter in her prison cell. This letter appeared to contain instructions for witness tampering. However, in a twist nobody saw coming, Richins claims the letter was an excerpt from a fictional book she's working on.    The hosts struggled with the brazenness of Richins' actions. "What baffles me is the fact that she thought she could write this and... pass this off as a manuscript," Brueski expressed in disbelief. Johnston added, "It doesn't look good for her...I can see the jury thinking, well, isn't this somebody who would do the same thing outside of jail?"    Both Brueski and Johnston grapple with the audacity of Richins' choices, questioning her mental state. "Is this just someone who just doesn't...make the greatest of decisions?" asked Brueski, highlighting the seemingly naive nature of Richins' actions. Johnston's perspective, given her background in forensic psychology, is particularly poignant: "There is almost this kind of... denial on the one hand that the situation she's really in and also just a real... overestimation of her own abilities."    The hosts further ponder if Richins, emboldened by a lifetime of people buying into her narratives, finds it difficult to accept the reality that her current environment is not as malleable. "She's had an echo chamber around her... And now she's in a place where no one's going to take her seriously," mused Brueski. The consensus between the two? Richins doesn't necessarily believe her own stories but is certain she can persuade others to. As Johnston succinctly put it, "She's convinced herself that she can convince other people that what she says is true."    In an era where true crime fascinates the masses, the case of Kouri Richins stands out not just for its intrigue but for the audacious claims and actions of the alleged perpetrator. Richins' story, as dissected by Brueski and Johnston, presents a perplexing character study. Is she truly delusional, or does she believe she can outsmart everyone?    With every twist and turn, the mystery deepens, leading us to wonder: In the face of mounting evidence and skepticism, will Kouri Richins finally confront the reality, or will she continue to weave a web of tales, confident in her ability to persuade? Only time will tell. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Why Rex Heuermann's Wife May Sue Police as She Demands 300 Guns Back

Is money more important than morality? This is a question echoing through the latest episode of "Hidden Killers" with Tony Brueski. He was joined by former FBI Special Agent and Hidden Killers Daily Contributor, Jennifer Coffindaffer, to discuss the unsettling actions of Asa Ellerup, wife of accused Long Island serial killer, Rex Heuermann.    The intrigue started when Asa Ellerup made a controversial request to retrieve 300 guns, identified as marital property, from the home she once shared with her husband. These guns were put into evidence as her husband is the main suspect in the Long Island serial killings. According to her attorney, the guns are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Tony Brueski reflected, "Surprisingly, I'm always just kind of like, why are you doing this right now? This just doesn't look good for you."    Jennifer Coffindaffer weighed in, expressing shock at the optics of the situation, stating, “Why? Just from a moral standpoint, does she care about these victims? Does she care about this case?” The former FBI agent emphasized the improbability of Asa getting the guns back, given their potential evidentiary value in the ongoing investigation.    But this isn't the only monetary pursuit Asa seems to be engaging in. Brueski pointed out that she has "55 grand that was handed over to her from the GoFundMe," yet she continues to claim her house isn't fixed. Such behavior, combined with her legal pursuits, has muddled the narrative around Asa's possible ignorance of her husband's alleged activities.    The discussion took a turn to speculate on the potential implications of the ongoing investigation. Jennifer hinted, "If they find, you know, notes, records. Emails, texts any sort of communications regarding her involvement... it shows character." This character hint suggests someone with "zero empathy for others," eerily similar to traits one might expect from a serial killer.    Both hosts were careful not to definitively label Asa as guilty of anything. However, her recent actions, particularly the quest for marital property amid such grave allegations against her spouse, cast a dark shadow. Jennifer summed it up by saying, "Law enforcement has said they don't have any information at this point that she's involved... but by her actions right now, it's casting a real negative shadow."    A particularly provocative point was raised regarding gender bias. Would the narrative be different if gender roles were reversed? Would both spouses be behind bars if the wife were the primary suspect? Jennifer countered that the totality of evidence doesn't point towards Asa. Regardless of gender, the evidence just doesn't seem to connect her to the crimes.    Is society too quick to judge based on actions following trauma, or are these reactions telltale signs of deeper connections? The lines between innocence, guilt, and the pursuit of personal interest blur, leaving us all pondering: Can property truly overshadow the value of human life? Decoding The Culture Of Corruption In Murdaugh Country

Can a justice system's very culture endanger the sanctity of a trial? The setting of the trial date for Alex Murdaugh on November 27th, concerning his financial crimes against deceased housekeeper Gloria Satterfield, which is among the 101 state charges against him, has brought up a bevy of questions surrounding courtroom ethics in South Carolina. The "Hidden Killers" podcast, hosted by Tony Brueski and featuring psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott, dug deep into the matter, raising questions about the alleged culture that exists in South Carolina's courtrooms.    Brueski began by questioning the legitimacy of Murdaugh's upcoming trial in light of recent allegations of jury tampering involving the clerk of court. "Can this go to trial on the 27th? If, in fact, does go that far or does everything in this courthouse need to be reexamined?" he inquired, hinting at deeper systemic issues that might plague the justice system in South Carolina.    Scott responded with palpable concern, saying, "It's shocking to hear about the conversations that the court clerk is alleged to have had." She went on to speculate, "And I would doubt that this is the first time; if this is the way that was happening, this probably is the norm of the culture down there."    The culture in question is the "good old boy" system, notorious for its informal, often questionable ways of doing things. This lax attitude, combined with close-knit relationships in a small community, can sometimes lead to the blurring of professional boundaries. As Scott succinctly puts it, "Small community, everybody's friends, and the rules apparently have been not enforced. It's been lax probably for quite some time."    Brueski further probes into the psyche of the alleged court clerk, asking if she might have believed her actions were justified or if she was unaware of the severity of her actions. "Would you assume that she thought that this was okay behavior?"    Scott, pondering the question, concluded, "Yeah it seems so strange and so apart from the norm that one would think this is not the first time it's happened, that this is just the lady's style." She elaborated, mentioning that while many have vouched for the clerk's good character on the news, it's still plausible for someone to be kind-hearted, yet "clueless and dumb."    The discussion naturally circled back to Murdaugh, with both Brueski and Scott concurring that regardless of one's opinion about him, if jury tampering occurred, he is entitled to a fair trial. "He certainly is entitled to a new trial whether you like him or not, or you think he's a horrible human being, which he is if this did take place," Brueski stated.    The revelations discussed on "Hidden Killers" have indeed thrown the spotlight on South Carolina's legal system. The allegations suggest that the judicial structure's very culture might be compromising the sanctity of trials. As the Murdaugh case unfolds, the broader implications will likely continue to unravel.    With such pressing questions raised about the state's legal culture, one can't help but ponder: How many other courtrooms, unscrutinized and unchecked, might operate under similar, questionable cultures? Will Rebecca Hill Face Charges For Jury Tampering?

In a recent episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, Tony Brueski dived deep into the allegations of jury tampering with defense attorney Bob Motta, the host of the "Defense Diaries." The captivating conversation revolved around the appeal for a new trial due to supposed interference with the jury.    "We haven't really heard a whole lot from Rebecca Hill, other than that she denies the charges against her," began Brueski, setting the tone for the conversation.    To the unacquainted, the name Rebecca "Becky" Hill may not ring a bell, but those following the case closely know her as the figure at the center of the alleged tampering controversy. Motta paints a vivid picture of the tight-knit community where the trial took place: "There's so many players down there, and it's such an incestuous area in terms of everyone knowing each other, everyone practices with one another down there."    Jury tampering, in simple terms, involves unauthorized communications or interference with members of a jury to influence the outcome of a trial. Such actions undermine the judicial process, but determining its occurrence can be complex. Addressing this point, Motta asserts, "If she [Hill] said one word about anything relating to the trial, about believing or not, I believe it's jury tampering."    This perspective comes from the inherent power dynamics at play. Rebecca Hill, as an elected official, naturally commands respect and authority in her community. Her word carries weight, making her alleged influence on the jurors even more potent. "Jurors just don't know... It's an incredibly unusual situation," Motta shared, emphasizing the unique vulnerability jurors might feel during their first trial experience.  Despite the alleged tampering, the crux of the matter remains clear for Motta: every defendant, no matter their perceived guilt or moral standing, deserves a fair trial under the U.S. Constitution. "I detest Murdoch... He's just a terrible person. Notwithstanding that, the guy still has constitutional rights."    This issue is bigger than any individual or case, as Motta puts it, "We're protecting the Constitution." The sanctity of the legal process remains paramount. "Murdoch is the tree. We have to protect the forest," he adds, emphasizing the larger perspective.    Another interesting point raised during the conversation was whether Judge Newman might end up as a witness given the potential involvement and knowledge of the alleged tampering. Adding to the complexity, there's the consideration of moving the trial out of the area due to its heightened media attention. "I don't know where they're empaneling a jury that's not gonna have heard about this case," Motta admits, pointing to the immense challenge of finding an unbiased jury pool given the media frenzy surrounding the trial.    Cases like this, as Motta mentions, are among the most significant in his career, not just for their legal complexity but also for their cultural impact. He likens it to the Valo case in Idaho, which presented its own set of unique challenges and garnered widespread attention.    In the end, the importance of preserving the integrity of the judicial system is evident. It becomes a cautionary tale of ensuring that every individual, regardless of public opinion, gets a fair shot at justice.    And while the podcast episode covered this case in-depth, the broader implications remain: In an era of heightened media scrutiny and interconnected communities, can we truly ensure the sanctity of the jury process? In the world of law and order, it's not always as black and white as one might think. Recently on the "Hidden Killers" podcast, host Tony Brueski had an enlightening conversation with Robin Dreeke, a retired FBI Special Agent and Chief of the Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program. They delved deep into the murky waters of ethics, especially regarding Alex Murdaugh's trial and the actions of the Clerk of Court, Rebecca Hill.    Rebecca Hill, while holding her role since 2020, has been a part of the court system for many years. Yet, her tenure as the Clerk of Court has not been without controversy. The hosts speculated whether her background and the prevailing culture in South Carolina's courts led her to take actions that many would deem unethical. Tony commented, "It does make you wonder if there's just so much of that going on in South Carolina... most people not only do they participate in it, but maybe they are unaware that this is not the norm."    The podcast discussed how certain practices might be deeply entrenched in a system, making it difficult for newcomers to discern right from wrong. Tony drew a parallel from his experience in music radio, where record labels would directly pay to get certain songs aired. "It wasn't even talked about as being wrong," he said, emphasizing how sometimes unethical behavior becomes normalized if seen regularly.    Dreeke provided insight into how a continuous pattern of unethical actions for personal gain, especially when widely accepted, could blur one's understanding of legality. "When unethical behaviors become the norm because everyone's doing it, you start believing and rationalize your own behavior when you're self-serving," he mentioned. The discussion pointed towards a larger issue of people not recognizing their actions as unethical, especially if it aligns with their self-opinion.    However, what was perhaps most alarming was the speculation around Hill's trajectory in the system. The hosts contemplated that unethical behaviors might not just erupt spontaneously. Instead, there could have been a progression, starting with minor infringements eventually leading up to something as serious as jury tampering. Tony posed the question, "Where did this begin? What were the first steps of unethical behavior that led to this extreme?"    As the conversation progressed, Dreeke emphasized the critical difference between unethical and illegal, noting that people often tread the line carefully. Yet, in Hill's case, the line might have been inadvertently crossed. He mentioned, "if you were to interview her and ask her and put her on a polygraph... she's not going to say no."    The bigger concern arising from their discussion was the lack of checks and balances in place. Dreeke was surprised at the apparent absence of a clear policy regarding court officials writing books or publicizing ongoing trials. Drawing from his experience in the FBI, he elaborated on the stringent procedures he underwent before publishing any material.    Tony wrapped up the conversation by addressing the fundamental issue of public trust. "The taxpayers are paying her salary, and that's not what she's paid to do," he said, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability, especially in roles that serve the public.    The episode offered a deep dive into the challenges and complexities of the legal system. As Brueski and Dreeke peeled back the layers, listeners were left with a profound understanding of how crucial ethics are, not just in law but in every profession. If anything, this discussion emphasized the importance of introspection, education, and reform in the broader system. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? BTK Task Force Member Joni Johnston Talks Next Steps In Investigation

In the recent episode of the podcast "Hidden Killers," Tony Brueski engaged in a chilling conversation with Clinical and forensic psychologist & licensed private investigator Joni Johnston about the notorious BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) murderer, Dennis Rader. As more potential victims and connections to Rader emerge, the question that looms large is: how many secrets does the BTK killer still keep?    The conversation unveiled Johnston's association with a nationwide task force formed to probe deeper into the BTK's unresolved crimes. She revealed, "We all signed nondisclosure agreements... our role is just to look at the evidence... to see if there is any connection between Dennis Rader and some of the crimes that... appear to be potentially connected to him."    Gary Upton, a key informant, had previously pointed out that there might be four potential connections to Rader. The Cynthia Kinney case stands out among them, primarily because of the eerie drawings by Rader that mirror some aspects of the crime scene.    "The challenging thing when you're talking about drawings... is we know that serial killers... will journal or they'll draw, you know, both fantasies that they have as well as potentially crimes they've committed," Johnston said, highlighting the unsettling intersection of fantasy and reality in Rader's drawings and photographs. These artifacts often act as a macabre catalog of a serial killer's conquests, but discerning fact from fiction is no straightforward task.    Diving deeper into the psyche of Rader, Johnston reflected on the duality of his nature: the sadist in him that derived pleasure from torturing his victims, and the side that seemed to derive an equal amount of satisfaction by envisioning himself as the victim. She theorized, "This is somebody who is attempting to... relive the pleasure he experienced at the time by almost acting out his own kind of play or movie."    But why, despite being offered immunity, has Rader not come forward to clarify these potential connections? With his physical health deteriorating but mental faculties still sharp, the motivations behind his silence remain an enigma. While Johnston believes that only Rader can answer that question definitively, Kerry Rawson, Rader's daughter, has been invaluable in aiding the task force and law enforcement over the years, suggesting she might have some insight.    Johnston further alluded to suspicions about Rader initiating his violent streak during his Navy tenure overseas, a period he hasn't spoken about. She emphasized, "I don't think we can rule him out, but it does raise a question."    Brueski then brought up an intriguing point about Rader's current relationship with media attention. It appears Rader has found a renewed interest in the limelight, offering unsolicited insights into various cases. This behavior begs the question: is he genuinely trying to help, or is this another twisted game?    A significant concern raised during the discussion was the role of potential media opportunism, specifically the risk of a reality TV show influencing the investigation. Responding to this, Johnston candidly expressed her hopes that the integrity of the task force remains uncompromised, emphasizing, "The check or the reality check is always going to be the evidence or lack thereof."    The quest for the truth, bolstered by evidence from Wichita's untouched archives, remains the primary objective. Johnston concluded with a heartfelt sentiment, hoping for "directions of closure for some of these families."    But as we reflect on the chilling details discussed in "Hidden Killers", another unsettling question arises: how many more "hidden killers" remain buried in the annals of crime, waiting to be uncovered? The New York Post recently reported that in the early hours of a seemingly ordinary Friday morning on July 14, real estate agent Jeffrey St. Arromand's daily routine was abruptly shattered by a phone call that sent shockwaves through his world. The voice on the other end of the line was one of his clients, her voice shaking, breathless, and scared. The news had just broken that the notorious Gilgo Beach serial killer, who had evaded capture for over a decade, had been arrested. The suspect was Rex Heuermann, an architect she had worked closely with over the past year on a Brooklyn brownstone project.    Jeffrey, of Serhant, vividly recalled his interactions with Heuermann, yet it was his client's chilling experiences with Heuermann that drew a cold veil of shock over their past professional associations. Speaking anonymously, she recounted her baffling encounters with Heuermann, which dated back to 2002 when she had purchased her Crown Heights home. Fast-forward two decades later, in 2022, Heuermann played a significant role in renovating her property as the expeditor and architect, which was ultimately sold.    "She drove him home once because she relocated to Long Island," St. Arromand told The Post, hinting at a journey along a "dark and desolate." Reflecting on that eerie drive home, the client revealed a haunting conversation that had taken place between them. "At one point on the drive, we talked about the Gilgo Beach murders — we even discussed the burlap and why someone would use that. In retrospect, thinking about that conversation, it's just bone-chilling," she confessed.    She noted his peculiar behavior as she delved further into her interactions with Heuermann during the renovation. "Throughout the transaction, he was becoming very difficult to work with, even belligerent sometimes. He was constantly arguing with the plumber on the job and questioning his work. Just very odd behavior," she said. "For some reason, in this transaction, he would constantly say, 'I'm not doing anything to get a fine or open an investigation of my license.'"    After the finalization of the property sale, her distaste for Heuermann had grown so much that she preferred him not to attend the closing. “When we ultimately were able to close on the property, I had such a bad experience with Rex that I told him not to attend the closing,” she said. Regardless, he was still owed a balance of payment and made a separate trip to the attorney's office to pick it up. "Apparently he had some disagreement with one of the women associates at the firm. This associate was so uncomfortable with her exchange with Rex that she refused to be in the office when he picked up the check. Ultimately the partner at the firm gave the check to Rex when he arrived with his daughter," she explained.    St. Arromand shared that the property was eventually sold to a celebrity buyer whose identity remains a secret. Despite the troubling interactions with Heuermann, his client had always spoken highly of his work. “She's someone that really supported this guy,” St. Arromand expressed. "She needed the weekend just to decompress," he added, as she grappled with the shocking revelation of Heuermann's arrest.    The Friday discovery marked a shocking turn of events, leaving St. Arromand and his client to grapple with the chilling reality that a man they thought they knew well could be capable of such horrendous acts. This narrative is a sobering reminder of how little we might know about those we interact with daily and the mysteries that might lurk beneath the surface. BREAKING-Alex Murdaugh Pleads Guilty To 22 Financial Crimes To Show Son 'Responsibility'

In a major turn of events, the embattled South Carolina attorney, Alex Murdaugh, has pleaded guilty to a series of federal charges. Following his conviction in March for the murders of his wife and son, this latest development adds another dark chapter to the narrative surrounding one of South Carolina's once-prominent legal families.    Murdaugh appeared before US District Court Judge Richard Gergel in Charleston, South Carolina on Thursday, where he admitted guilt to nearly two dozen federal fraud and money laundering charges. The courtroom atmosphere was thick with emotion as Murdaugh, tearfully confessing, said he was pleading guilty "of his own free will" and so that his son "could see him take responsibility for his actions." He also expressed his desire to help his victims find healing, as reported by attorneys present during the hearing.    As per the official plea agreement, Murdaugh will accept responsibility for 22 charges. These include one count of conspiracy to commit wire and bank fraud, five counts of wire fraud, a single count of bank fraud, another count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and a staggering 14 counts of money laundering. The severity of these charges is underscored by their potential punishment: some can lead to a maximum of 20 years in federal prison, while others could result in up to 30 years behind bars.    These charges stem from a scheme where Murdaugh, in conjunction with a bank employee, allegedly defrauded his personal injury clients and laundered over $7 million. The indictment states that Murdaugh used these ill-gotten funds for "personal benefit," which included settling personal loans and covering personal expenses.    The plea's conditions stipulate that if Murdaugh adheres to the agreement, federal attorneys will propose that any federal prison time runs concurrently with any state sentence given for the same offenses.    However, this is far from the end of Murdaugh's legal woes. He represents the third generation of the Murdaugh family – a lineage of esteemed lawyers and solicitors that once commanded significant influence in South Carolina's Lowcountry. The conviction for the 2021 murders of his wife and son has already sentenced him to life without parole. Yet, claims of courtroom tampering by a clerk during his trial have led to demands for a new trial by his defense team. This controversial claim is under investigation, with South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson pointing out “significant factual disputes” that might jeopardize the credibility of Murdaugh's assertions.    Moreover, Murdaugh remains enmeshed in several other legal battles, both at the state and federal levels, where he faces more than 100 additional charges. One such upcoming trial in November relates to allegations of stolen settlement funds from the late housekeeper of the Murdaugh family, Gloria Satterfield. These allegations are among the first in a long line that accuses Murdaugh of defrauding victims of millions. His alleged financial crimes include embezzlement, computer crime, money laundering, and even tax evasion.    The case of Alex Murdaugh, given his family's storied history in South Carolina, underscores a dramatic fall from grace. While his admission of guilt in federal court marks a significant moment in this saga, the numerous charges he still faces indicate that the final chapter is yet to be written. In the latest twist of an ongoing legal saga, Adam Montgomery's trial over the alleged 2019 murder of his 5-year-old daughter, Harmony, is set to be postponed. Montgomery, already in the legal limelight following convictions on unrelated felony weapons charges, now awaits a crucial decision on the rescheduling of his upcoming trial.    Public defender Caroline Smith, representing Montgomery, filed a request on Wednesday seeking the trial's delay, citing the necessity for a new co-counsel. Scheduled originally to kick off with jury selection on November 20, Montgomery has chosen to waive his right to a speedy trial in light of these developments.    "The circumstances leading up to this delay are intricate and essential for the court and public to understand," states the request. Robin Davis, formerly Merrimack County Attorney, had been listed as the co-counsel. However, in an unforeseen turn of events, Davis has accepted a non-lawyer position within the public defender's office.    Clarifying the rationale behind the reshuffle, Smith mentioned, "The new position, and especially the reasons that have caused her to need to leave her attorney position and seek the non-attorney position, prevent her from continuing as co-counsel in this matter."    Efforts to obtain comments from Sarah Rothman, the executive director of the New Hampshire Public Defender Office, proved futile on Wednesday, leaving many details surrounding this development obscured from public knowledge.    With the introduction of a new co-counsel into the mix, the delay is seen as a pragmatic move to grant adequate preparation time. "A trial of this magnitude and sensitivity demands meticulous preparation, ensuring all involved parties are adequately equipped for the proceedings," a legal expert commented on the case's latest developments.    To add further complexity to Montgomery's legal circumstances, back in June, a separate jury delivered a guilty verdict on six unrelated felony weapons charges leveled against him. He has since directed his legal efforts towards an appeal to the state Supreme Court. The core of this appeal hinges on the legitimacy of allowing testimony from Montgomery's estranged wife, Kayla, during the four-day jury trial which culminated in his conviction.    Judge Amy Messer's decision to sentence Montgomery to a minimum of 32 years in state prison on those charges stands as a testament to the gravity of the crimes. Nonetheless, during the pronouncement of the sentence, Montgomery took the opportunity to assert his innocence regarding his daughter's death.    "I love my daughter unconditionally and I didn't kill her,” adamantly proclaimed Montgomery, urging the jury to separate his prior convictions from the murder allegations.    The state's pursuit of justice for Harmony Montgomery has garnered national attention, sparking debates on the efficiency and challenges within the legal system. With the trial's impending delay, one thing remains clear: the pursuit of truth and justice for Harmony is a path laden with unexpected twists and legal intricacies. As the legal proceedings unfold, the public watches with bated breath, hoping for a conclusion that serves justice.    For now, all eyes are set on September 28th, the scheduled date for the hearing to decide on the trial's delay. It serves as yet another crucial juncture in this convoluted journey to justice for Harmony Montgomery. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In a recent episode of the podcast "Hidden Killers," host Tony Brueski delved into the controversial investigation into the infamous BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) serial killer, Dennis Rader, and his possible connection to four other unsolved homicides. Guest Neama Rahmani, an attorney and former Federal prosecutor, offered an insightful take on the complexities and implications surrounding the matter.    "The Osage County Sheriff's Office seems to be making quite a spectacle of the investigation, don't they?" Brueski opened, highlighting the media frenzy surrounding the case and the somewhat dramatic methods the Sheriff's Office has employed.    Rahmani was quick to point out a significant rift between law enforcement and the District Attorney. "Officers investigate, but they shouldn't be playing lawyer," he said, expressing concern over the sheriff's overreaching jurisdiction, the legitimacy of the search warrants, and the actual evidence in hand. Such discrepancies might just be giving defense lawyers the leverage they need to get a potential case dismissed.    Brueski furthered the debate by questioning the intent behind reopening an investigation against a man already serving multiple life sentences. "What's the endgame here?" Rahmani mused. "Unless you're gunning for a death sentence, what do you gain from prosecuting Rader for one of these murders?" He painted a vivid picture of Rader reveling in the courtroom attention, given his history of seeking the limelight.    The conversation turned to the type of evidence the Sheriff's Office might be relying on. Brueski described decades-old Polaroid pictures of Rader donning his victims' clothing. While such photos might look damning to the general public, Rahmani was skeptical about their legal weight. "Is a Polaroid from 40 years ago strong enough to convict someone of murder?" he questioned, emphasizing that the optics and the reality of a courtroom are often worlds apart.    Yet, one of the most intriguing points Rahmani raised was about Rader's own confessions. The BTK killer has been nothing if not vocal about his crimes, often offering chilling details about his murders. "He's been given offers of immunity if he just comes clean," Rahmani shared. So, why the silence on these new allegations? "What is he hiding? What reason does he have not to admit to these other killings if he did them?" Rahmani posited.    For victims' families, the reopening of cold cases linked to such a notorious figure offers a glimmer of hope. The promise of closure, justice, or perhaps just a definitive answer is invaluable. Yet, the intersection of media, law enforcement's ambitions, and a killer's penchant for drama muddies the waters. As Rahmani pointedly asked, "Unless it's a provable case beyond a reasonable doubt, why make a questionable case that adds nothing to Rader's sentence?"    In the labyrinth of legal intricacies, public perception, and the haunting shadow of the BTK killer, the true path to justice remains elusive. Are we genuinely unearthing hidden truths, or are we merely giving a monster another moment in the spotlight?    How do we differentiate between the pursuit of justice and the hunger for sensationalism? Murdaugh Mistrial: Where Does SC Court's Culture Of Corruption Start?

In an explosive revelation from the latest episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, a former felony prosecutor and attorney, Eric Faddis, weighs in on recent allegations of jury tampering in the Alex Murdaugh case. The twist? It wasn't from an external source, but from a figure deeply embedded in the court's infrastructure: the clerk of court.    "We've got an allegation that the clerk of court is actively influencing the jury to convict this man," Faddis shared, underscoring the gravity of the situation. This isn't just about mere gossip or behind-the-scenes banter. This is about a potentially severe miscarriage of justice.    For those unfamiliar, Alex Murdaugh is currently embroiled in allegations of killing his wife and son. "Say what you want about Alex Murdaugh... he deserves a fair trial," stated Faddis. The fundamental pillar of the justice system is the assurance of a fair trial, irrespective of the accusations or public sentiment.    The crux of the matter is that if the allegations prove true, it could be grounds to overturn Murdaugh's convictions. "I'm telling you that could be a meritorious ground to overturn these convictions of Alec Murdoch," Faddis added, pointing out the severity of the situation.    But what happens after overturning the verdict? Eric Faddis clarified, "In most instances... it would almost always go to a new trial." The scenario might play out in the public eye once again, as the trial would potentially be rehashed in media.    Faddis' insights into court chambers were equally revealing. "People are humans back there," he noted. There's chatter, speculation, and talk about the various players involved in trials. Yet, while such discussions among court staff might be expected to some degree, actively influencing a jury is on another level. Murdaugh's defense is arguing that the alleged influence was so profound that it affected the fairness of the trial.    The central figure under scrutiny, Rebecca Hill, the clerk of court, is alleged to have directly conversed with jury members, making unsolicited remarks about Murdaugh's guilt. These claims, if validated, raise bigger questions about the culture within the courthouse. Faddis pondered, "Is this more systemic of a culture... or is this just one person who's a little bit too vocal than others?"    Another pressing concern is the venue of Murdaugh's ongoing financial fraud cases. With the same judge and court staff, there's an increasing clamor for a change of venue. Faddis remarked, "He's still got the financial fraud cases not only in that same courthouse, but in front of that same judge... that's got to be ferreted out to ensure that... he still deserves a fair trial."    What's in store for the clerk of court if found guilty of these allegations? "In at least in Colorado where I practice that could potentially be grounds for jury tampering, which is a felony," Faddis highlighted. The repercussions would be significant, both legally and professionally.    Closing on a note from the past, Faddis recollected the renowned attorney Clarence Darrow, who faced similar allegations. "The famous attorney Clarence Darrow actually got popped for jury tampering and... was charged with a felony."    As the podcast episode wrapped up, listeners were left contemplating: if improprieties can allegedly occur in a case as high-profile as Murdaugh's, how many other verdicts may hang in the balance due to overlooked influences? Is New BTK Investigation Giving False Hope to Victim Families?

In a stunning revelation on the popular podcast "Hidden Killers," Tony Brueski revealed that the chilling figure of BTK - Dennis Rader - might have had more victims than previously known. Brueski's intense conversation with Bob Motta, Defense Attorney and host of the podcast Defense Diaries, left listeners grappling with a myriad of new details and insights into the ongoing investigation.    "Dennis Rader, BTK being looked at again... Four cases is what he is saying that he believes could very likely be linked to Dennis Rader," Brueski stated. One such case is that of Cynthia Dawn Kinney, who went missing in 1976. The only piece of evidence linking her disappearance to Rader was an obscure reference about a "bad wash day" he made, alluding to his time installing ADT alarm systems across the street from where Kinney lived. "We do see some evidence that Rader was in the area at the time," says Brueski.    However, what is striking about the renewed interest in these cases is not just the implication that there might be more victims, but the level of sophistication and tenacity that investigators are employing to unearth evidence. Motta highlighted how advances in DNA technology could be instrumental in these cases. "The advantages, the leaps and bounds that DNA technology has taken... the hope is going to be that they're going to be able to do direct comparisons."    Furthermore, a national task force has been assembled to look into these cases, comprising many experts known to Brueski and Motta. Among them is Kerri Rawson, Dennis Rader's own daughter, who has been proactively aiding federal agencies with information. Motta spoke highly of Rawson's resilience: "She's an amazing person... the fact that she survived that trauma and is putting it all to very good use these days is admirable." There's an underlying sense of tragedy as Rawson, in her bid to help victims, faces societal backlash due to her lineage.    One pivotal avenue the investigation is taking involves a series of photographs taken by Rader himself. These photos capture Rader wearing his victim's clothing. The aim? To determine if any of the clothing pieces could belong to victims he hasn't been charged for. "One of the bigger things that it seems they're taking a look at are those pictures," said Brueski. The challenge lies in the age of these photos – taken in the 1970s or 1980s – and how they can conclusively link them to potential victims.    In response to Brueski's query on whether a mere photo would suffice as evidence, Motta asserted that while it could be powerful, it's not enough on its own. "If you can get a few pieces of extremely powerful circumstantial evidence, it'll probably be enough." Motta drew parallels with the case of John Wayne Gacy, where unique items and medical records were essential in identifying victims from skeletal remains.    Both Brueski and Motta's conversation touched upon the overarching importance of building a solid case. But for many, the pressing question isn't just about convicting Rader again. It's about giving families, who've lost their loved ones under mysterious circumstances, a chance at closure.    So, as the task force dives deep into old evidence and new technology in hopes of shedding light on these cold cases, we are left with an unsettling thought: What if there are still secrets hidden in the shadows of BTK's grisly past? Did 'Good 'Ol Boy' Culture Enable Rogue Clerk Of Courts To Tamper With Jury?

Dark Side of Wikipedia | True Crime & Dark History

Is South Carolina's justice system rotting from the inside? Startling allegations of jury tampering against a clerk of courts have surfaced, casting shadows on the very integrity of the system. But this could just be the tip of an iceberg, hinting at deeper, systemic problems plaguing the courts.    In a recent episode of the podcast "Hidden Killers," Tony Brueski held a revealing conversation with retired FBI Special Agent, Robin Dreeke. The discussion centered around the shocking instance of an accused clerk from South Carolina's court system allegedly tampering with jury decisions. "The public servant, the clerk, is not serving the public, serving themselves, and it completely undermined the case," remarked Brueski.    The gravity of the situation becomes even more palpable when considering the alleged misbehavior came from the clerk of courts, an integral component of the court's structure, responsible for ensuring justice. With such a pivotal role compromised, questions arise about the integrity of other elements within the system. "Should there be a further investigation into the rest of this machine there in South Carolina... all the way down to judges to anybody involved in this process?" Brueski probes.    Dreeke adds weight to this line of thought, emphasizing the need for systemic introspection. “I think you're absolutely right," he concurs, highlighting the nonchalant attitude displayed by the accused and the suspiciously timed release of her book about the case. This kind of behavior, he suggests, doesn't emerge in isolation but is born from a culture where individual gains are prioritized over justice and integrity. "How did it get in her mind that that's appropriate right now? It came from on top that that behavior was okay," Dreeke opines.    Drawing parallels to another incident, Brueski refers to a convict who recently escaped from a Pennsylvania jail, attributing his escape to poor leadership. He juxtaposes the strong leadership shown by Lt. Colonel Bivens of the state police in recapturing the escapee, against the lackluster administration at the prison. "Leadership. And so when you look at this situation, you fast forward it down to South Carolina, how can a public servant publish a book that fast?" Brueski asks.    Echoing this sentiment, Dreeke illustrates that unchecked leadership could potentially harbor a culture of corruption. To uproot such corruption, targeting individuals isn't enough. "You got to go for the top," he states, suggesting an overhaul of the leadership and infrastructure as the only means to affect real change.    A worrying pattern emerges from the conversation. An environment where unethical behavior becomes normalized, where bending rules is not just condoned but also encouraged. As Dreeke describes, it's a setting where "groupthink gets infused in everything," leading individuals to believe such behavior is not only acceptable but entirely regular.    He offers a chilling comparison to a recent scandal involving a former FBI senior executive named Charlie McGonigal, charged and found guilty of receiving a hefty sum from Albanians and undermining Russian sanctions. Such acts make one wonder: how can high-ranking officials consider these actions permissible? “That's a culture," Dreeke asserts, “that says we can do this."    The conversation on "Hidden Killers" raises disconcerting concerns. If individuals at the core of the justice system, whether in South Carolina or elsewhere, perceive rule-breaking as an ingrained part of their culture, the very foundations of the system are at risk. As the investigation into South Carolina's alleged jury tampering unfolds, one can only hope it serves as a wake-up call, urging reform not just in one state but throughout any system vulnerable to corruption. The unraveling tale of Kouri Richins, a Kamas mother of three accused of fatally poisoning her husband, Eric Richins, and subsequently writing a children's book about grieving, has taken another shocking turn. The Summit County Attorney's Office has recently filed a motion to prevent Richins from communicating with her immediate family, suggesting she's attempting to manipulate them into lying for her defense.    On September 14, a search of Richins' jail cell in the Summit County Jail, where she's held without bail facing aggravated murder and drug charges, led to a startling discovery. Hidden inside a book, deputies found a six-page letter apparently written by Kouri to her mother, Lisa Darden. This letter's initial three pages contained directives for Lisa to relay to Ronney Darden, Kouri's brother.    "Reword this however he needs to, to make the point," she emphatically wrote. "Just include it all."    Within the contents of this letter, Kouri seemingly attempts to craft a narrative for her defense. She urges Ronney to inform her defense attorney, Skye Lazaro, of a supposed incident wherein Eric procured drugs, including fentanyl, from a ranch in Mexico. Further, she alleges Eric forced her to transport drugs during their travels, suggesting a plot to frame her if they were caught. Moreover, Kouri claims that Ronney possesses text messages from Eric that revolve around “getting high.”    "Tell him I need him to do this," she implored her mother. "Bring me home and we will get those damn b- - - - - -."    However, in a candid conversation with KPCW, Ronney stated he was unaware of the existence of the controversial letter. While admitting to knowing about Eric's marijuana habits, he firmly declared, “There's no reason to testify falsely—[Kouri] didn't do anything.”    The intrigue doesn't stop there. The letter unveils Kouri's wish for her mother to disseminate pictures of Eric's sister's daughters to various media entities. It appears that Kouri wanted to shift public sentiment, noting that she had friends scheduled to appear on Good Morning America. Coordinated by Lazaro, these friends were poised to discuss Eric's alleged pill consumption and portray his sisters as envious adversaries.    Kouri's perspective? “This comes down to jealousy, money, and Eric's partying that they don't want to acknowledge and sadly an accidental overdose,” she alleged.    As the motion reveals, another twist arose: prosecutors highlight an alleged video call between Kouri and Lisa on September 13. During the call, Kouri reportedly showed her mother another letter. The whereabouts of this letter remain unknown, with prosecutors speculating, “There is a strong inference that the September 13, 2023 letter was destroyed or flushed.”    Lazaro's response was swift. Accusing the prosecutors of violating a gag order, she vehemently objected to the public disclosure of the September 14 letter. To Lazaro, this move by the state felt akin to a direct leak to the media. She emphasized the envelope that contained the letter was marked "Skye Lazaro (Attorney privilege)", hinting at a potentially illicit search by the state. The defense claims that by unveiling the letter, the prosecutors aimed to sway public perception, further pointing out past instances where the state inadvertently shared Kouri's sensitive information.    The defense's demands are clear: Enforce the gag order, potentially remove the letter from the docket, and hold the state in contempt of court.    Additionally, concerns about Kouri's health have emerged. On September 12, just days before the cell search, she was hospitalized. The reason remains undisclosed, but according to Ronney, a medication mix-up in the Summit County Jail led to her health scare.    With the court recently issuing subpoenas for Kouri's medical records and the jail's surveillance footage, the next stages of this trial promise more revelations. Kouri Richins' next court appearance is slated for November 3, potentially setting the stage for a preliminary hearing.    As this engrossing case continues, the stakes for all involved escalate. The quest for truth amidst a web of allegations, potential manipulations, and heartfelt emotions ensures that Summit County's trial remains under a relentless spotlight..  Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Is it possible that behind the camera lens of some of our favorite family influencers lies a disturbing reality?   Recent shocking revelations surrounding YouTube personalities, Ruby Frank from 8 Passengers and her business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, have left fans and audiences worldwide grappling with disbelief and betrayal. The arrest of the duo followed a chilling 911 call, in which a 12-year-old boy, identified as one of Ruby's children, appeared at a neighbor's home - emaciated, wounded, and bound with duct tape.    "This one, I don't know if it should shock me or not, but it kind of does considering the following that she had," remarked Tony Brueski, host of the podcast "Hidden Killers", during a recent episode.    Brueski and his guest, Defense Attorney Bob Motta from Defense Diaries, delved deep into this alarming incident, attempting to reconcile how a seemingly strict 'old school' parent who once broadcasted minor parenting faux pas could escalate to such horrifying actions.    Evidence of the alleged abuse came to light when "the kids start coming forward", Motta mentioned. Ruby's YouTube channel had showcased her strict parenting techniques in the past. An incident where her six-year-old was responsible for her lunch and was publicly chastised for forgetting it raised eyebrows. While some viewers perceived it as Ruby teaching her children life lessons, others were quick to criticize her approach.    The lines between stern parenting and outright abuse seem blurred for many, and unfortunately, some influencers might be pushing these boundaries to dangerous extremes. In discussing the difference between teaching children accountability and outright neglect, Motta highlighted, "There are parents that still abide by, you know, spare the rod, spoil the child type of mindset, a long way from like when I was growing up."    However, what remains more confounding is the consistent absence of intervention. Despite allegations and complaints, including some from Ruby's own 20-year-old daughter, Child Protective Services (CPS) failed to act. As Motta emphasized, these children are not toddlers. They have a voice, yet for some reason, it was overlooked, echoing haunting similarities to other cases of children being unheard, like that of Lucy Studi.    Motta, while comparing this situation, said, "Like how scary and frustrating that must be for children who are just not being heard." Adding another layer of complexity, Jodi Hildebrandt's involvement, Ruby's business partner, and the complicity of Ruby's husband, who claims to have been unaware of the ongoing abuse, paints a grim picture of children caught in a web of adult manipulation.    Yet, as this investigation progresses, truth and justice may be on the horizon. With the victims themselves acting as witnesses, Motta reassured listeners, "We do have very much eyewitnesses as to exactly what was going on in that house and for how long and by whom. So if it's a secret, it's not going to stay secret for long."    As followers of family influencers, this case acts as a haunting reminder that all might not be as it appears. For the children involved, the hope is that justice will prevail, and they will finally find peace after years of torment.    As the digital age thrusts parents into the spotlight, where do we draw the line between harmless content and the potential exploitation or even abuse of children? When does 'parenting' cross the line into abuse? Tony Brueski, host of the acclaimed podcast "Hidden Killers," delved deep into the twisted narrative of Ruby Frank, a renowned YouTube personality and alleged child abuser. Joined by former FBI Special Agent and Hidden Killers Daily Contributor, Jennifer Coffindaffer, the conversation explored the intersection of social media validation and potential child maltreatment.    Ruby Frank, once held in esteem for her tough-love parenting style on her mommy blog, has recently come under scrutiny for extreme disciplinary actions. "Somewhat reminiscent of Lori Dayville," Brueski commented, hinting at the underlying radical beliefs that might be influencing Frank's controversial parenting methods.    Discussing the potential influence of her blogging career on her parenting style, Coffindaffer opined, "She has over two million people that are supporting her and supporting what she's talking about. So I think it certainly gave her the sense of empowerment and the sense that she wasn't doing anything wrong." The concerning aspect here isn't just the actions of one individual but the validation by millions.    The focus then shifted to an alarming point - the systemic failures of child protective services. "Is the Ruby Frank and Jodi Hildebrandt story another lesson in how broken our system is for child protective services?" Brueski asked. Coffindaffer's response was both empathetic towards the workers in the system and critical of the structure itself. "The system is so broken... the parental rights seem to just overshadow everything that is right," she lamented.    The podcast went on to discuss the role of Frank's husband in the alleged abuse, shedding light on the need for a comprehensive inquiry into the children's experiences. The notion that such potential abuse could remain hidden from another parent living in the same house was deemed unlikely by Coffindaffer. "I just think it's gonna take a real deep historical look," she asserted, emphasizing the importance of thoroughly interviewing the kids and gathering any available evidence.    Brueski and Coffindaffer's conversation paints a bleak picture, intertwining the allure of internet fame with potential abuses behind closed doors. While the discourse highlights a single case, it brings forward a larger societal issue of discerning the boundary between disciplinary actions and outright abuse.    This tale is a stark reminder that online personalities and influencers, despite the façade they might present, are human. Their actions, for better or worse, remain hidden behind the pixels, only surfacing when the screen darkens and real life takes over.    As we ponder the implications of this discussion, one must ask: In the age of online validation, who truly watches out for the vulnerable? How Ruby Frank's Alleged Abuse Went Under The Radar For Years

The façade of social media fame can be beguiling. But what happens when the lives of our favorite influencers unravel, revealing a disturbing and possibly criminal side? Ruby Frank, the once-celebrated YouTube personality and mommy blogger with an audience of 2.5 million, has come under intense scrutiny following troubling reports that hint at a horrifying reality behind her curated online presence.    In a recent episode of "Hidden Killers" with Tony Brueski, Neama Rahmani, an attorney and former Federal prosecutor, delved deep into the allegations surrounding Frank. The image painted was chilling: a child with wrists and ankles bound in duct tape fleeing to a neighbor's house seeking help. This incident has raised eyebrows and sparked an avalanche of questions. Was this an outlier event, a misjudgment on Frank's part, or the tip of an iceberg revealing years of systematic abuse?    "Obviously these are just allegations, but if they're true, there's a special place in hell for people that abuse children, especially their own children," Rahmani commented. Drawing on his extensive background in prosecuting child abuse cases, Rahmani underscored the gravity of the situation. He mentioned the severity of the allegations and compared them to the worst cases he had encountered during his tenure as a prosecutor. "Sex crimes against children, production of child pornography, severe physical abuse... it's really sort of terrible stuff," he reflected.    But it's not just Ruby Frank that is under the magnifying glass. Jody Hildebrandt, Frank's business associate and friend, is implicated in the allegations. Both are being held without bail. The case has multiple facets: not only the criminal component of the alleged abuse but also the welfare of the children, who have been taken into protective custody.    The saga takes another twist with the husband's claim of ignorance about the abuse. While Ruby was residing with Jody Hildebrandt in a different state during the time of the allegations, questions loom about the husband's potential complicity during the years of Frank's mommy blogging. Rahmani illuminated a critical aspect of criminal law in this context: "This is one of those situations where you can be held criminally liable for a failure to act." He further elucidated that turning a blind eye is not a defense. Parents have an inherent duty to protect their children.    Considering the widespread reach of Frank's YouTube channel, Brueski raised a pertinent point, questioning how common such situations are where one parent might be the perpetrator and the other merely a silent observer, possibly living in fear. Rahmani noted that while scenarios differ, if abuse is taking place in a household, it's crucial to scrutinize both partners. "When you're dealing with a case like this with abuse of multiple kids, you gotta look at both spouses, no question," he emphasized.    Yet, as distressing as the allegations are, another layer of concern emerges: Why did authorities not act sooner? The couple's adult daughter has reportedly been trying to draw attention to her family's situation for some time. Despite a few visits by Child Protective Services (CPS), there was no substantial intervention. Rahmani lamented the inefficiencies of social services, citing issues of training, resources, and occasional negligence.    Are influential figures better equipped at hiding their dark secrets? "The parents are good, you know. Sexual assault, domestic violence, these are two of the most underreported crimes in the country," Rahmani observed. He stressed the challenges of prosecuting these crimes, particularly when they involve children, and underscored the magnitude of the issue, emphasizing the vulnerability of kids and the difficulty they face in reporting abuse, especially by their parents.    As the legal processes unfold, we're left to grapple with a stark truth about the intersection of fame, social media, and reality. Behind the glamorized façade of some influencers might lie stories so dark that they defy belief.    Is it then time to ask: How much do we truly know about the lives of those we follow so avidly online? In a revealing discussion on the podcast "Hidden Killers," Tony Brueski seeks insights from former felony prosecutor and attorney, Eric Faddis, about the murky waters surrounding decades-old cold cases, the BTK killer, and the intricacies of investigative processes. Their conversation casts a light on the somber realities facing the families who seek closure and the complexities entangled within the legal framework.    The District Attorney's recent decision to hand over investigations to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) regarding a case from 1976 has rekindled the public's interest. But as Faddis points out, "Sometimes those entities are not as adept in terms of investigating homicides. They do a lot of lab work, analysis, and ballistic stuff, but they don't always do on-the-ground investigation."    Dennis Rader, infamously known as the BTK killer, has been a name associated with numerous chilling crimes. His association with the 1976 case brings forth the question: "Is there another victim? If in fact, he is the guy and he is behind bars or if it is someone else out there again, we're talking about 1976, does it really go high in the priority list of the OSBI to investigate this?" Brueski poses.    Faddis offers a pragmatic perspective, suggesting that while this case carries national prominence, it is not certain if authorities will invest significant resources into it, especially when the main suspect, BTK, is already behind bars.    The conversation takes an even darker turn when discussing the "trophies" that BTK mentioned in a 2008 letter he wrote from prison. Sheriff Eddie Bearden affirmed that the locations provided by BTK were being investigated to recover those "trophies". Brueski's poignant question resonates deeply: "2008 is when this letter was written... why didn't we look into some of these things sooner? Why now?"    Faddis's response highlights an unsettling reality, "Hearing BTK refer to these things as trophies was just… I shudder when I hear that word. It's dehumanizing, callous, and horrible." The fact that these leads are only being pursued now raises significant concerns about lost time and potentially missed justice.    As they delve deeper, both Brueski and Faddis touch on a heart-wrenching truth: the delay in investigations potentially robs already victimized families of any sense of closure or justice. "It's just heartbreaking to see that just the passage of time could have divested those victims and their families from the justice they so deserve," laments Faddis.    In the end, while the podcast episode offers no straightforward solutions, it brings to the fore vital questions about the priorities of law enforcement agencies, the complexities of navigating old cases, and the unending pain endured by families that are still waiting for justice. Whether the OSBI will prioritize this case and bring answers remains to be seen, but the discussion serves as a somber reminder that justice delayed can often feel like justice denied. Does the perfect facade crafted for millions on social media hide chilling secrets behind closed doors?  In a recent episode of "Hidden Killers," Tony Brueski had an enlightening conversation with psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott about the perplexing case of Ruby Frank and Jodie Hildebrandt, two women whose questionable behaviors recently made headlines. The revelations from this story were not just deeply unsettling, but they also shine a spotlight on a concerning trend in the Mormon faith.    Ruby Frank, known for her "curated blonde, attractive appearance" and vast reach on YouTube, gathered over two and a half million subscribers who were torn between admiration and distaste for her parenting approach. On the surface, Frank's parenting seemed rooted in old-school methods, such as not delivering a forgotten lunch to ensure a lesson is learned. However, as Brueski pointed out, there's a "world of difference developmentally between a six-year-old and a 12-year-old," and perhaps, Frank's judgments were misplaced or even detrimental.    While many saw her as pious and strict, others were horrified by her on-screen demeanor towards her children. Beyond the camera, darker details began to emerge, hinting at a deeply troubling double life. But it poses a compelling question: "Is this more common than we think of individuals very heavy on social media?" as Brueski inquired. The way Frank presented herself was like a facade, expertly crafted for her online audience, all while hiding disturbing behaviors.    The mystery deepens with Jodie Hildebrandt, described as a mix between a therapist and a cult leader, who shared a dubious business venture with Frank. Their "counseling agency" oddly focused on topics such as preventing masturbation and the dangers of sexuality. Comparing them to the notorious Chad and Lori Daybell, Scott remarked, "when you put nutty people together, it just sort of amplifies and intensifies."    One can't ignore the apparent pattern of alarming incidents emerging from the Mormon or Latter-day Saint (LDS) faith. While both hosts emphasized that their intent wasn't to cast a shadow over the entire religion, there seems to be a growing list of individuals within the faith showcasing detrimental behavior. If such attitudes are increasingly emanating from the community, is it then, as Brueski suggests, "something to be looked at"?    Ruby Frank's daughter's testimony adds another layer to this chilling tale. After Frank's arrest, her 20-year-old daughter took to social media with a single word: "finally." She revealed her unsuccessful attempts to report her mother's actions for years. This points to a wider systemic issue. Scott hinted at a potential failure of Child Protection Services (CPS) due to lack of funding or staff, a plight that's unfortunately familiar in many jurisdictions.    As the discussion veered towards Frank's husband, a college professor, opinions diverged. While he claimed ignorance regarding the abusive behaviors, Scott found it hard to label him a victim. Was he passive, turning a blind eye to Frank's actions, or complicit in them? If the latter, where does one draw the line between moral and legal responsibility?    The story of Ruby Frank and Jodie Hildebrandt is a distressing reminder of the facades people can build, especially in the age of social media, and the hidden dangers lurking beneath seemingly perfect exteriors. As Brueski and Scott delved deep into this harrowing tale, listeners are left contemplating the complexities of human behavior, societal pressures, and the power dynamics within family units.    In a world where our online selves often differ from reality, how many more secrets remain hidden behind the screens?
