Kris, aka "The Road Trip Warrior Audiobook Listener," and Tara have talked many times about their love of audiobooks. The right audiobook is a mix of the right story and the right performer. If you only have one, the project doesn't work. So, it's with great joy that we welcome two very special guests this week to talk about all things audiobooks. If you've listened to a sapphic romance in the last 5 years, chances are good you've heard Lori Prince's voice. And if you listen to historical fiction, then you've probably heard Marisa Calin, too. Here's the other cool thing: Marisa and Lori are married to each other! You know what narrators, readers, and writers also love to do? Laugh. There's a lot of laughing in this episode, probably because there's a lot of love here. Love for stories and how they reach out through our headphones, our speakers, or just the page itself, to connect us all together. Like Kris, aka "The Pusher," is fond of saying, “Punch and roll, bitches. Let's go!” Works/People Discussed SAG-AFTRA strike website WGA Strike Hub Interview with Adam Conover, member of WGA's negotiating committee (A More Civilized Age podcast) "AI is coming for your audiobooks. You're right to be worried." (Washington Post, August 16, 2023) Alison Bechdel's Dykes to Watch Out For, by Alison Bechdel and Madeleine George (audiobook) My Covid Romance by Gabra Zackman About our guests Lori Prince is an New York City based actor and narrator with over 25 years of acting experience. She has an extensive theatre background from Off-Broadway to some of the country's top regional theatres and you've probably seen her on TV. With over 150 audiobooks on Audible, she has become a go-to Sapphic Romance narrator with two Earphones Awards. Marisa Calin is an Audie, Odyssey, seven-times Audiofile Earphones Award winning and SOVAS nominated audiobook narrator. She's had an Audible Best Audiobook of the Year, Apple Books Must-Listen audiobooks of the month, starred reviews in Publishers Weekly and School Library Journal, and books on YALSA's Amazing Audiobooks of the year list. She's also the author of Between You & Me, a queer YA coming of age novel which was selected for ALA's Rainbow Book List, and the writer of the film A Million Happy Nows, which won best feature at the first Clexacon conference. Tara talks new hair colours and adding to her tattoo collection. Kris is back from ClexaCon, with stories of creating the perfect author photobomb. We're not in our twenties anymore, with our back tattoos and art house films. We're past our thirties (how past? None of your business), which means it's documentary time, bay-bee! This week, an interesting theme connects a number of the recommendations: how and why people quit competitions. When discussing Glow Up and RuPaul's Drag Race, Tara tells stories of queens and makeup artists who left before they could be kicked off, and in Kris's official recommendation, she talks about a skateboarder who had to bow out of the Olympics because of misgendering. Was it planned? Not at all. Is it interesting? Let us know on Twitter. If you enjoy this episode, please consider buying Kris & Tara a Ko-fi! Official Recommendations This week, Kris brings us the Netflix documentary Stay on Board: The Leo Baker Story. It's an inspiring story of one person's identity and the sport that they love. Kris really dug this one and we think you'll dig it too. Rounding the bases into home, Tara delivers another Netflix documentary, A Secret Love. Inspired by the recent explosion of Amazon Prime's A League of Their Own, Tara followed up with this documentary about one of the original All-American Girls Professional Baseball League players and her partner, their secret lives, and their changes in older years. It's a home run, folks. Our plans for the First Kill finale ep keep changing, so while we figure our shit out we figured we should do what we do best and talk about lesbian shit (generally). This episode we chat about FirstKillCon aka Clexacon, Hayley Kiyoko and Becca Tilley, Harley Quinn, romcoms and more!
We talk about our big ClexaCon weekend, there's some She-Hulk talk and Nerd News featuring good and bad news about Lucy Lawless. Please subscribe, rate and review! By the time you hear Kris say she's looking forward to the upcoming ClexaCon, bemoaning her 9 AM panel and how everyone'll be hungover… it's already happened. Time is weird, people. Regardless, WHENEVER you're reading this (hearing this?) you'll be treated to Tara and Kris passing judgement on the contestants wimping out of Alone: Frozen, all from the comfort of their homes. There's a bunch more stuff, too, all of it very good. Too much to list, really (there is a list, it's below). Oh, they pick their favourite Drunk Histories! Come on in. If you enjoy this episode, please consider buying Kris & Tara a Ko-fi! Official Recommendations This week, Kris hits a home run with her official recommendation of Prime Video's A League of Their Own. Rather than remaking the 1992 hit movie, this series version shares the stories of queer and/or Black players in the 1940s that couldn't be told 30 years ago. And Tara brings us home with Hulu's Fire Island. This gay romantic comedy is a contemporary reinterpretation of Pride and Prejudice. It takes place on real world Fire Island, where Noah makes it his weeklong business to get his friend Howie laid…all while a new Mr. Darcy enters the field. Works/People Discussed ClexaCon First Kill (Netflix) based on the short story "First Kill" by V.E. Elishia and Kristina met at Clexacon in 2019 and quickly realized that they had complementary vibes, goals, and skillsets. Perrie Voss (co-creator of Avocado Toast the series, @perrievoss) chats with the wonderful ANNIE BRIGGS (she/her). Annie is an actor and writer and also our story editor for Avocado Toast the series and has been a part of our team from the start!Fans will largely know Annie as Lola Perry from the hit web series "Carmilla" as well as "Murdoch Mysteries" and "Transplant". Annie is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC and of the CFC Actor's Conservatory. Annie also co-wrote the hit series "CLAIREvoyant" alongside Natasha Negovanlis. Annie also wrote and directed and starred in her short film "LUVVIE". Perrie and Annie chat about what Annie has been up to during quarantine and the answer may surprise you (hint: she might be learning how to make Cream Puffs - which is very fitting, we think!). Annie also talks about diving into the book The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron over the last year and how amazing that has been. They chat about working together on Avocado Toast and how both Elle and Molly's storylines were mutually touching for her and they talk about how necessary the discussion around bi-erasure is as well as being able to talk about the pain around parental divorce(s). Perrie and Annie also talk about bumping into each other at ClexaCon in London 2018. Annie talks about the drive to create work even though we can constantly find ways of talking ourselves out of it. We also touch on some of her favourite films and filmmakers (Jim Jarmusch and Céline Sciamma). You can find out more about Annie's work on her on Instagram @anniemorganb and Twitter @anniembriggs and IMDB and watch her short film "RUTH" as a part of the CFC "close-ups".Thank you so much to Ontario Creates for their support of this project and to Russell Louder for the use of their song "Cost of Living". #006. REPRESENTATION MATTERS: INTERVIEWING HOLLY WINEBARGERAirdate: June 3, 2020Our first ever interview is with Holly Winebarger, a woman we admire for her strength, tenacity and her drive to help create safe environments for the Queer Community. She was one of the founders of ClexaCon, the mind behind QFX Events and part of the team behind QLikeU. She never seems to stop fighting for representation we all deserve. That is why we felt compelled to make her our first interview and release it during Pride Month 2020.Rated Explicit for language. Please note: There were some technical difficulties with the audio on this interview, but we felt the information within was too important and needed to be shared. If you'd like the shownotes or links mentioned in this episode, head to:https://www.foreverfangirls.com/episode006/

Hello again! Sadly, Clexacon is cancelled due to the virus but we will still be attending whenever the rescheduled event is. Thank you to those that share their stories with us. We appreciate it and will keep them in our mind and hearts. Editor notes: Since this episode was recorded months ago we're happy to let you know the baby we speak of *Spoilers* has been born as of this recording and is a lovely healthy potato to which we wish the world for. :hearts: This time we are talking to returned guest: Jen Tidwell, host of the Earp fiction addiction podcast and all around beautiful person. We talked about that AH-HA moment they realized non-binary clicked with them and their journey since then. We also talked a lot about baby culture and how they plan to raise their bundle of joy in a less gender controlled way.
We sit down with the QUEEN of queer community, Holly Winebarger, co-founder of ClexaCon and founder of QFX! Holly grew up in a small town in Virginia and didn't even know the word "lesbian" until she was 17, so it's no wonder she's spent much of her life fostering spaces for LGBTQ+ folks. She talks about how Ellen's "The Puppy Episode" changed her life, and tells us a coming out story that is *so* outrageous, it literally leaves us speechless! Also, the lasting impact of her mom's best friend, Belinda...
Connie and Becca discuss Fuck, Marry, Kill with Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz, and Emma Stone from the Favourite, Gay Conversion Therapy movies The Miseducation of Cameron Post and Boy Erased as well as Velvet Buzzsaw. We turn to TV for Netflix's Derry Girls and fan out over Russian Doll with Natasha Lyonne. We finish out with Queer Media Conventions such as Clexacon, CarmillaCon and YouTube focused VidCon.
Meet new and longtime members of the ClexaCon staff in our first episode back for season 3. You'll hear from our new Accessibility Coordinator Kàegh and Vendor Coordinator Hellen, plus directors Heidi, Danielle, and April.
We're back! (If you're listening in the future, our ClexaCon announcement ends at minute 00:06:15.) This was a very cathartic episode for us, since Jill and I have both been dealing with some health issues over the past month. But finally, we got this episode out and are thrilled to share the love and positivity with all of you! Grab a bowl of popcorn, and join us for a discussion of WOC representation, the crossover between Jewish-American history and the 1960 film classic Spartacus, and a spotlight on the marvelous Colombian-American actress Paula Garcés (Dr. Kelly Hernandez). We've also dropped a ton of deleted scenes from our podcast recording on our Patreon page.
Episode 49: Anatomy of a Love Seen This week, we're talking about a meta movie that was honestly a little too meta. This 2014 movie about trying to film a lesbian love scene is high on Gay Melodrama and low on pretty much everything else. It's not the worst thing? But it's not the best. Join us as we talk about sex scenes, adolescent behavior that honestly is disappointing, being bored, fun panels at ClexaCon, and some queer animated shorts! Enjoy! When it comes to famous lesbians, there are the ones we see in theaters and on red carpets, but the women who were on that realty TV show we watched 9 years ago can be just as popular. Kelsey Bailey (Upright Citizens Brigade, Here & Queer) joins us post-Clexacon to dish about all the Celesbians she’s been following over the years. The phrase “this is so embarrassing” is uttered multiple times, only to realize the same people. What draws us to these strangers? Why do we track all their moves? How many queer Paulson sisters are there? We also play a little game of celebrity connection with Kelsey. Obviously we can only cover so much ground, so please, no emails with “I can’t believe you didn’t mention _____.” Unless they’re super cool or hot and aren’t on our gaydar.
