It's time for Bonanza City to woke up. And that's why Lauren Flans is here. She's dropping in to the middle of Kid Nation to just watch this one episode and then get as far away as possible as long as wherever that is she can still read episode sysopses. Chris Hayner is here because Jared is his Spirit Pioneer.

It may be hot outside, but our feed drops are hotter ;P. As our hiatus nears its end (we'll be back in just 2 weeks!), we are excited to share a hilarious episode from our friend Lauren Flans over at Coming Out Pod (@comingoutpod). We have been big fans of Coming Out Pod from the very beginning and can't wait to hear what you think after listening to the episode. If you love it (and we're sure you will), don't forget to subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts! ----- Writer Elliott Maya (they/them, and "a sprinkle of he/him in, like, a fruity Victorian dandy boy way") has a real way with words, in case you couldn't tell from that parenthetical. Raised in the *extremely* strict Jehovah's Witnesses religion, Lio and their brother were also the only Black kids at their school. As if this weren't enough, Lio started going through puberty quite early, which coincided with them realizing that they were "not like the other girls, in many ways." Lio knew that college was their only chance of escape, so they started working at the age of twelve. Along the way, they attempted to hide their queerness in high school by becoming a gay bully...but in an ironic twist, they ended up becoming "horrifically" attracted to their (also queer) victim. Besides being an absolutely HILARIOUS storyteller, Lio also has Long Covid, and started the group Covid Cautious Queers. We spend the latter half of the episode talking about the ways in which Lio's illness has changed their life, and the (easy!) ways you can help not only them, but everyone in your community. First thing's first: follow Lio on Instagram at @bougiebasquiat, and please please please see their bio for links to their GoFundMe, their Health Hub, and their Ko-fi! You can also follow them on TikTok at @transnaruto, and check out their *gorgeous* website at elliottmaya.com. Last but not least, follow @covidcautiousqueers on Instagram, especially if you're in Southern California. It's Pride Month, y'all - let's be there for Lio!! Learn more about your ad choices. Trigger Warning: This episode contains extensive discussion of abuse, coercion, control, alcoholism and drug abuse that might be distressing for some listeners. If these topics could be difficult for you to listen to, maybe consider skipping is week's show. Today we are joined by the founder of the non-monogamy resource Poly Pages Claire Travers. We discuss how abuse can manifest itself in non-monogamous relationships and how we can be aware of this to keep ourselves and others safe. Claire also highlights the need for a community-level understanding of what abuse looks like in non-monogamy and non-monogamy-specific resources around this topic. But first, Rich and Siobhan talk about coming out at work and joining Lauren Flans on Coming Out Pod. A huge thanks to Claire for joining us to discuss this important topic. Coming Out Pod's Lauren Flans is here to find out everything she forgot about Wonderfalls.
It's National Coming Out Day! October 11 is considered National Coming Out Day in the United States. The day was first observed on October 11, 1988, on the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights as a reminder that one of the most basic tools is the power of coming out. How fitting it is, that on today's episode Joe talks to Lauren Flans, co-host of the ever popular podcast entitled "Coming Out with Lauren & Nicole". This podcast provides a space for those within the LGBTQ+ community an opportunity to share their coming out story with the world! Joe was fortunate enough to be a guest on the podcast earlier this year and on this episode Joe and Lauren get into a deep conversation about what Coming Out Day means to them, how we can evolve as a society, and get key insights into Lauren's upbringing! Enjoy! About Coming Out Pod Lauren is gay! Nicole is bi! We are joined by Lauren Flans (Wild 'n Out, Another Period) of the Coming Out With Lauren & Nicole podcast to discuss her favorite musical, Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music, but will the film adaptation hold up? The 1977 Academy Award-winning film brought along Broadway director Harold Prince and a couple original cast members, as well as the star power of Elizabeth Taylor and Diana Rigg, but was it enough? We'll discuss all of it, including what changed from stage to screen, why Madame Armfeldt rules, Marc's first experience seeing STAR WARS, what carom billiards even is, how Ryan is 1 degree away from Lesley-Anne Down, and why you should never trust a little girl with your personal secrets! Plus, who is Team Liz or Team Diana? Also, isn't it rich? Are we a pair?
There is a trigger warning at the top of this episode regarding suicide, as the poem in this week's episode deals directly with the topic. The discussion surrounding the subject is that of respect for the author's history, but also how the author chose a humorous lens to reflect a dark subject matter. Elizabeth is eager to introduce her longtime friend, Lauren Flans. Lauren is a contemporary multi-hyphenate. She was a recurring cast member on MTV's Wild ‘n Out and Comedy Central's Another Period. She's an active member of Lost Moon Radio, which is a live comedy and music group in LA and is the current co-host of Coming Out with Lauren and Nicole, a podcast where they host queer folks from all walks of life to tell the tales of how they came out. In their discussion of Dorothy Parker's Resume Lauren notes how the author would likely be cancelled on Twitter, how being bitter and snarky made Parker hopelessly cool, and how she voluntarily offers poetry collections to friends. There are musings on Lauren's longtime crush on Jennifer Jason Leigh and Elizabeth shares a sexy little John Keats line. “[Dorothy Parker] was smart and had this caustic wit and was living in the 1920's when everything was repressed and she was like ‘Fuck everything!' and I just thought that was hopelessly cool.” -Lauren Flans Timestamps: 00:00:00 Trigger Warning (Suicide) 00:00:48 Guest Introduction 00:03:05 Poem Reading (Lauren) 00:03:35 Author Info 00:04:50 Lauren's Relationship to the Poem 00:14:50 Pause / Poem Reading (Elizabeth) 00:16:30 Reflection & Offering Poem & Links: Resume by Dorothy Parker (© 1926) Ode to a Nightingale by John Keats (© 1819) The Portable Dorothy Parker Far From Well (Parker's Review of The House at Pooh Corner) Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (Film © 1994) The Algonquin Round Table I.O.P. We bring back one of the OG sports dump contributors, funny free style rapper and podcasting superstar Lauren Flans. Though she isn't absorbed in the world of sports or even aware of it, she offers some untainted takes on some of the prevailing sports stories of the week. We talk about. - Racist Basketball players/video game streamers -"Plantation referencing" college basketball coaches - Sexually predatory College football coaches. - Full houses at sporting events in Texas All in all it's some funny bits in between me ranting like a madman at the utter stupidity that surrounds us. But you will be happy to know we didn't have time for Hockey OR soccer!
Our groovy pal Lauren Flans (@laurenflans) joins us for a look at the cult leader with a swastika on his head and a song in his heart, Charles Manson. It's the part of the summer of '69 Bryan Adams wisely omitted. Send feedback to @podcastbutevil. Opening Track: The Beatles - Helter Skelter Also included: The Beach Boys (but written by Manson) - Never Learn Not To Love Charles Manson - Home is Where You're Happy Closing Track - Charles In Charge Theme
Black lives matter. By the end of this, you’re just gonna want to go listen to another podcast, called Coming Out with Lauren and Nicole (@ComingOutPod). Because our guests this week are the hosts of that show! Lauren Flans (@lauren_flans) and Nicole Pacent (@nicolepacent) were part of a workshop at the Los Angeles LGBT Center about coming out, and when they could not find a podcast on the subject they started their own! You may recognize Nicole from our two part Poly Party episode, and rest assured this episode is just as badass. Lauren and Nicole go through both of their coming out stories, one of which resembles the complexity of a short film. This then reminds Heather of a pretty solid anecdote. Of course, when pod creators sit down with other pod creators, there’s always a good discussion about the impact the podcast has had on your life. But when they get to the GROSS stories, it involves a literally award-winning tale that takes the cake over any shitting-your-pants story we’ve ever heard...even though it did not happen to anybody appearing on this episode. Following this is one way to receive a sexy-looking vampire bite, and one reason never to travel to Germany. Don’t listen to this, Kyle. We have MERCH! Go to teepublic.com and go craaaaaazy!! And our brand spankin’ new website dirtygirlpodcast.com is good to go, so go check it out! Thank. You. Lauren. And. Nicole. Again, to reiterate, go listen to @ComingOutPod! And thank YOU for listening! The production is produced by Heather Ann Gottlieb, Cameron Tagge, Alex Salem, and Tristen Bankston. The theme song vocals are vocalized by Natalie Sharp. The artwork is worked by Kevin Laughlin. The distribution is distributed by WhoHaHa.
Honestly this is one of our best episodes ever. I'm joined by co host Nooch and Lauren Flans from the "Coming Out" pod. When we start they are soccer novices, but by the end they know a little more, thanks to Brendan Hunt from Apple TV's hit series "Ted Lasso". First Brendan finds the perfect Soccer team for Dan to root for and then we figure out where one of the greatest soccer players in history is going to play this season. Lots of funny detours on the trip! follow us on twitter @sportsdumpshow. rate review and shit like that!
Actor/Writer/Podcaster and self-proclaimed bad lesbian Lauren Flans (Coming Out Pod, Wild 'n Out) joins us to talk about all the ways in which we feel like we're failing our identity. Astrology? Bah humbug. Cats? Allergic. Friends? Mostly cishet dudes. But are these really pillars of lesbianism that we need to shame ourselves for not meeting, or are they dated generalizations that no longer apply?
