Ever wondered what it's like to trade a drumstick for a script? Kaleb Naquin, once a high school band aficionado, now finds himself on the rise in the acting sphere, and he's here to pull back the curtain on his intriguing journey. From his days at ED White Catholic High School to an impromptu audition that set his path alight, Kaleb's anecdotes about breaking into the Louisiana film scene carry the rhythm of an inspiring drumline—proving that sometimes the best gigs are the ones you never see coming. Kaleb tears into the meat of the acting world, swapping stories about the trials of presenting the perfect headshot and resume, and the art of networking that could make or break a career in showbiz. We reminisce about the camaraderie on the set of NCIS New Orleans, contrast it with other less welcoming production environments, and share a few laughs about the invaluable lessons learned from background roles. Our chat is a toast to the New Orleans spirit, where helping hands in the industry are as abundant as the beignets, and resources like the Actors Apothecary are the much-needed salve for the acting soul. In the final reel of our session, we recount the thrills (and spills) of the 48 Hour Film Festival, shedding light on how the perfect role could be just a transformation away—whether that's shedding some pounds or sporting a new beard. Our episode wraps with a humorous twist, debating a topic that, while seemingly trivial, is an underlayer to every actor's performance—literally. In this episode of Can't Find My Way Home, I was joined by Kenneth May, Jacob Smith, and Sebastien Simon. All the guests are currently living and working in Busan, South Korea, but hail from the US and France respectively. We got together to talk about the Liquid Arts Project and the 72 Hour Film Festival that will take place between November 19th and the 22nd - when they will screen the final entries. So...what is the Liquid Arts Network you might ask? Liquid Arts was founded in Busan, South Korea. It has served as a stage for the local community to share their talents since 2000. The community has continued to grow its roots within Korea, while simultaneously planting seeds across the globe. Kenneth opens our conversation with more details on how it all started. Sebastien, who serves as the main film expert in the group, and has also worked with the Busan International Film Festival amongst others...tells us how he got involved with the project and how it'd lead to him now teaching film at a university in Busan. Jacob, gives us more insight into how the 72 Hour Film Fest originated, it's previous incarnations, and his role in it. You could say more of a behind the scenes role...but integral, nevertheless. You'll hear about how the Film Festival actually works - and why the winners could be included in a special, out-of-competition section of the 38th Busan International Short Film Festival (April 2021). The team describe how you can participate…styles, genres, props and locations...as well as a recap of some previous notable entries. What makes the Busan arts scene so active and why experimentation is vital? As well as wanting to involve the local, expatriate and foreign student communities in Busan into the project. It's open to all… We also find out about the many other film festivals that take place in South Korea All this and your own shot at the Oscars...no kidding! Let's get right into it...The Liquid Arts Network Follow The Liquid Arts Network https://liquidartsnetwork.com/ https://www.facebook.com/liquidartsnetwork/ https://www.facebook.com/events/hq-bar/72-hour-film-fest-2020/967369587070891/ https://www.instagram.com/liquidartsnetwork/ https://pods.link/i/1515212073 Can't Find My Way Home Linktree https://linktr.ee/cantfindmywayhome Facebook https://www.facebook.com/expatmusicpod Spotify https://spoti.fi/3n7nl2p --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/craig-branch/message

All this lockdown making you feel a little grumpy? Let your anxiety and frustration be expressed by two of the best grumps around, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau! The very first of our '93 picks, Grumpy Old Men was a childhood pick from host James, where John Gustovson (Lemmon) and Max Goldman's (Matthau) whole life is three actions: bicker, argue and fish. That is until a mysterious and zany new neighbour moves in, she zooms around on a snowmobile and has nude busts, it's the Manic Pixie Dream Woman Ariel Traux! (Ann-Margret)Will the hosts be charmed by the pranks of these twwo geezers as they feud for the love of a woman they barely even bother to know?NOTE: We repeatedly say the 48 Hour Film Festival screening will be the 9th. Travis Lupher's passion has always been making movies. He directed, shot and cut the 48 hour film "Time Changes Everything." He followed that up by directing, editing and shooting the film "Dead Vengeance" in 2011. That film would go on to win "Best Editing", "Best Cinematography" and "Best sound design" in the 48 Hour Film Festival. In between those two films Travis had the experience of working on a campaign of Doritos commercials that would really introduce him to just what can be done when you have the right team in place. That is why he created his own company, LA Motion Pix. To establish a team of people that could take movie making to the next level.Check out Travis' work at www.tlupher.com and www.lamotionpix.com.

Last week we attended https://podcastmovement.com/ (Podcast Movement 2018) in Philadelphia, USA. It was a great refresher for us – even an eye opener on some levels – in terms of what we are doing with the podcast as well as what we're doing as doc filmmakers. As was the case last year, we left the conference feeling more connected to a community of podcasters. But this year, perhaps more importantly, we are feeling a need to be more connected you, #doclifer, which is what this week's episode is all about… Connectivity. We are making a more concerted effort to get back to our core of The Documentary Life, which is to provide a platform whereby we, as doc filmmakers, can all feel a little more connected to one another, to our doc brothers and sisters! 5 Ways to Stay Connected as a Doc FilmmakerAs creatives, it's easy for us to get overwhelmed by our projects or other aspects of our lives that demand our attention. This can sometimes negatively impact our ability to function in a creative capacity. I have come up with five ways that will help you take some of that creativity back. I've never had an easy time believing Chris actually likes me. I always felt like he just kind of endures me the way Catholics endure the poor (my limited knowledge of Catholics makes me certain that's a apt simile). Regardless, however little he may have to say on the matter, Chris swears he not only enjoys me but remembers me fondly and even slightly envies me. In this conversation we glaze over our rivalry at Apple Retail, our time working on a 48 Hour Film Festival project, and the aggravation that comes with choosing to be my mentor.
