Open the Eyes of my Heart - Ashley Kuttner
After last week's cancelled service due to the snow, we gather this Sunday and find ourselves back in the book of Ephesians! Where Pastor Chris gives us a needed message of how Christ has come into the physical realm to reconcile the spiritual and the natural, bringing all of the virtues that are found in Him to those that also follow Him (Christians). This is the Revelation of the Gospel: because of Him we have been brought from death to life and darkness to light. Rejoice! that even as we await to be in His eternal presence, we can bring many virtues that are found in Heaven down to the Earth.

We should understand the context of today's reading. This is Mark's gospel, the very first gospel to be written. And remember it is a continuation from last week's gospel, where the rich young man comes up to Jesus and asks, “What must I do to inherit kingdom of of heaven?” And he says to him, “Give away everything.”Then James and John come along. They have given up everything. So they are thinking, I got it. We have given up everything. We are following you.” And so John asks, “Can you give us a place one at your right and the other on your left, key places of honor?” (Read More…)Here is my homily from the Twenty-Ninth Sunday of Ordinary time. This Sunday's message dives into the Apostle Paul's powerful prayer in Ephesians 1:15-23, where he expresses his gratitude for the faith and love this church has for all believers. Notice the word “all.” If you're not irritated by someone at Illuminate, you're not attending Illuminate. The fact is, some are harder to love than others and yet, this is our charge - to love everyone. After giving praise to them, he prays for them. Paul prays that they would understand the incredible blessings they possess in Christ. He emphasizes three key gifts: the hope of their calling, the riches of God's glorious inheritance in the saints, and the immeasurable greatness of His power toward believers. This prayer is rooted in Paul's deep affection for the Ephesians and his desire for them to grasp the spiritual wealth they already have. Christian, do you realize all that you have in Christ? If you're like me, too often you ask God for what you don't have. Paul's prayer highlights the importance of spiritual insight and understanding, asking God to grant the Ephesians the Spirit of wisdom and revelation. This wisdom, imparted by the Holy Spirit, enables believers to see the world through the lens of their faith, transforming their lives and relationships. Paul emphasizes the need for Christians to recognize the hope, forgiveness, and daily guidance that come from their relationship with Christ. He also points out that they are God's prized possession, His inheritance, and that they have access to the same power that raised Christ from the dead. This is astounding! Finally, Paul underscores the exalted position of Jesus, who is seated at the right hand of God, far above all earthly powers. He reminds us that Jesus is the head of the church, and that we, as His body, share in His victory and are empowered to fulfill our mission on earth. He concludes with a call to embrace the blessings already given in Christ, to grow in faith and love, and to live under Christ's authority, reflecting His glory and advancing His kingdom. What a great encouragmement for us today!
Send me a Text Message! In Ephesians 1:15-23, Paul prays a prayer for his friends and in the midst of this prayer are the words, the request, "God give them the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that they can know you better." Later he will ask God to open the eyes of their heart. His prayer brings to mind the simple question, "How well do I know God?" If there was one and only one question we should ask ourselveson a daily basis, it might be, "How well do I know him? Jesus once was overheard praying, he said, "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." (John 17:3) Moses spoke with God like a man does with his friend, and yet he cried out to know more of God. Paul said, nothing matters to me more than knowing Christ. I want to know Christ. So how well do you know Him?

He just won season 24 of "The Voice" several months ago, the popular talent competition on NBC and now HUNTLEY joins me on the podcast as he prepares to perform on Fort Moore, near me in Georgia, for their Independence Celebration, a free event open to the public on Saturday June 29, which starts at 4pm. He has a lot to say about God and faith, music and his quick path to fame, family history and support for the military! (3:50) You'll hear some of his performance, that he posted on Instagram, of "Open The Eyes of My Heart," a Christian worship song, then (7:06) we get into our conversation. Huntley first talks about his surprising journey onto the voice and winning it, grateful to God for the opportunity! He talks about leaning into GOD during hard times, like when he was homeless for a few months. Huntley also talks about fighting for what you want and having a spiritual awakening while on The Voice. He's excited to play and sing songs for soldiers and the public attending the Independence Celebration on Fort Moore this Saturday, with country star Brett Young performing after him. You may surprised to hear how tragedy struck some of his family members that were in the military and his deep connections to the Army. We close out talking about what kind/genre of music he describes his as...being authentic...the importance of family...and if his long blonde hair is real. Thanks for listening to the #RunTheRace podcast, which I hope you'll subscribe to! Share it with your friends. Also, write a quick review about it, on Apple podcasts.
