I started digging into Stephen Davis expecting a straightforward business fallout, but it didn't take long before the story began to shift. On the surface, you've got a former fire chief—someone people trusted, someone who built a reputation around leadership and service. It begins with trust. Davis wasn't just a business associate—he was someone who had already built credibility within a family long before any deal was made. He showed up when it mattered, and that kind of presence carries weight. It's the sort of trust that removes doubt before questions are even asked.That trust eventually turned into business. Choice Press LLC was formed, structured on paper as a partnership with defined ownership and responsibilities. It looked legitimate. It looked like something that could grow. But as I've seen time and time again, what's written down and what's actually happening can be two very different things.THE GOLIATH CONNECTIONThings changed in late 2025 when reporting identified Davis as Director of Administration at Goliath Ventures Inc. Around the same time, Goliath was attracting increasing scrutiny. Because when concerns are brushed aside privately while narratives are managed publicly, it tells you something about how the situation is being handled.THE CRACKS UNDER PRESSUREBehind the scenes, the cracks were already forming. There were discussions about financial exposure tied to Goliath, including losses linked to overseas investments. More importantly, there were acknowledgements that the company had grown rapidly without the infrastructure to support investor withdrawals.That's a critical detail. Because while those concerns were being discussed internally, the external message remained steady. Confidence was maintained, messaging stayed polished, and nothing publicly reflected the instability being described behind closed doors.THE MOMENT THAT RAISES QUESTIONSOne moment stands out. During a sales call, a financially vulnerable individual was encouraged to consider leveraging home equity to fund services. That's not theory—that's a real interaction. And it raises serious questions about judgement and boundaries.When you combine that with involvement in a high-risk investment structure, it becomes harder to dismiss as an isolated incident. A MIGHTY TREE has fallen! On January 29, 2026, Woody King, Jr became an ancestor. I miss my big brother and friend so much...all hail the king!This tribute re release of my very first episode is a heart warming, enlightening and a very personal conversation with the King of Black Theater on Broadway, WOODIE KING JR! He founded and operated the New Federal Theater in New York City for 51 years until his retirement. The Theater is still going strong. Martin Pring, publisher of the InterMarket Review and chief investment strategist at Pring Turner Capital Group, says that "all measures of valuation ... are up in the stratosphere,"  which means the market is entering "a very dangerous period on a long-term basis." For now, however, Pring stressed that "trend trumps level," meaning that the valuations won't derail the market on their own, because the trend has remained to the upside. Still, he says that could happen soon, noting that the market has been climbing a big mountain during the current rally, but it is currently nearing "the death zone," where it runs out of oxygen. Ryan Kimmel, fixed income allocation strategist on the macro allocation team at DoubleLine, discusses the dilemma investors are in as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics faces challenges in producing monthly employment figures, noting that the issues are more about declining survey participation than they are any sort of politicization of the numbers. Kimmel says lower response rates force the statisticians to rely on "imputed data," which then requires bigger, more dramatic revisions, which can reduce public trust in the numbers. He notes that the key number he is watching will be initial jobless claims; he currently pegs the probability of recession at 30 to 50 percent, but says it would go significantly higher if initial jobless claim trends shift higher. Stephen Davis, closed-end fund product specialist at Nuveen, says that price returns exceeded net asset value (NAV) gains for closed-end funds in 2025, which means that discounts were narrowed. With those thinner discounts, it could be hard for that trend to continue in the new year. Still, Davis sees potential opportunities in municipal bond and senior loan funds in 2026.

Stephen Davis, closed-end fund product specialist at Nuveen, says that while 2025 was a strong year for closed-end fund performance, price returns exceeded net asset value (NAV) gains, reflecting a narrowing of discounts, continuing a trend from 2024. Those narrower discounts will make it harder for that broad trend to continue in 2026, but he noted that municipal bonds and senior loans are two areas that should provide promising opportunities. Davis noted that 2025 saw significant merger and rights offering activity, a trend he expects to continue in the new year.

In May 2000, 32-year-old Australian astrophysicist Rodney Marks died suddenly on an Antarctica base after falling ill just 36 hours earlier. The National Science Foundation (NSF) released a statement saying he most likely died of natural causes. But when the toxicology report came back, it revealed he had actually been poisoned by methanol. How did the methanol get in his system? And why did New Zealand authorities feel like the NSF wanted to stonewall their investigation?
