LESSONS FOR THE PHILIPPIANS // Philippians 1:1-2
From creation (Genesis 1:26-28) to the early church (Acts 2:42-47), God's plan has always centered on relationships. We discuss how discipleship, baptism, and partnering in the gospel are relational rather than individual pursuits, emphasizing shared faith and mission. Drawing on examples like Paul's letter to the Philippians (Philippians 1:3-11) and Philemon's partnership in faith (Philemon 1:6), we see how living in koinonia transforms lives and deepens love for God and others. Move beyond private faith to embrace the joy of a shared life in Christ.Key Scriptures:Genesis 1:26-28, 2:24; Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 2:42-47; Philippians 1:3-11, 2:1; Philemon 1:6; 1 John 4:20-21; Matthew 25:40.
In a world filled with uncertainty, we often wonder how God is at work within and around us. Pastor Ben Palka's message on Philippians 1:1-6 encourages us to find confidence in God's ongoing work in our lives. As Paul expresses gratitude for the Philippians and reminds them of God's faithful work that will continue to completion, we're invited to reflect on how this promise is true for us today. Join us for a message of hope and encouragement as we explore how God, who began a good work within us, is faithful to bring it to completion, transforming our lives and the lives of those around us.

“Greetings to the Philippians” Philippians 1:1-2 February 25, 2024 Pastor Nathan Currey Sermon Application [file] ----more---- Philippians 1:1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons: [2] Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 16:8 So, passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas. [9] And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” [10] And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. The rich theological truths in the simple greeting of this ancient letter is worthy of our deep consideration today. • The Servants • The Saints • Grace and Peace
Welcome to the Unchanging World Bible broadcast here with Dr John G. Mitchell. We are continuing the prison Epistles of Paul series in the book of Philippians. Dr. Mitchell will be taking us to Acts chapter 16 where we discover the background of how the Apostle Paul introduced the gospel to the city of Philippi. And actually it began in a small little setting down by the river with a group of praying women since there was no synagogue there. And the Lord opened the heart of Lydia a woman. Lydia was a seller of purple from Thyatira and she was listening to the Apostle Paul present the gospel e.g. presenting the Messiah from the Old Testament. The Lord opened her heart to believe the things the Apostle Paul had been teaching about the Messiah, Jesus. Let's begin with Dr. Mitchell in Acts chapter 16:11. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/unchanging-word/message

An Insightful Look into Philippians 1Philippians is one of the Apostle Paul's prison epistles, written during his incarceration, likely in Rome. The book is characterized by joy and encouragement, even amidst challenging circumstances. The first chapter sets the tone for the entire epistle, establishing Paul's relationship with the Philippian believers, his own situation, and his hopes and prayers for them.1. Greeting and Thanksgiving (Philippians 1:1-8)Paul begins with a customary greeting, identifying himself and Timothy as servants of Christ Jesus. He addresses the letter to all the saints in Philippi, including overseers and deacons. From the very beginning, there's a sense of deep affection and gratitude as Paul remembers the Philippians in his prayers, emphasizing their partnership in the gospel since the first day.2. Paul's Prayer for the Philippians (Philippians 1:9-11)Paul's love for the Philippians is further reflected in his prayer for them. He prays that their love might abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so they may discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ. It's a prayer for spiritual maturity, underlined by a desire for righteousness that comes through Jesus. Paul's Chains Advance the Gospel (Philippians 1:12-18)Despite his imprisonment, Paul shares some positive news. His chains have actually served to advance the gospel, making it evident that his imprisonment was for Christ. His circumstances inspired other believers to proclaim the gospel without fear. Some did it out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. Paul rejoices that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. Paul's Hope and Future (Philippians 1:19-26)Paul is torn between two desires: to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far, or to remain in the body and continue his fruitful labour. This passage showcases Paul's unwavering faith in the face of adversity and his commitment to the advancement of the gospel. His conclusion is that he will remain and continue with them all for their progress and joy in the faith.5. Living Worthy of the Gospel (Philippians 1:27-30)Paul concludes the chapter with an exhortation to live in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. He encourages them to stand firm in unity and without fear, emphasizing that their struggle is one he shares with them. Implications and Modern Relevance: Philippians 1 is a testament to Paul's unwavering faith and commitment to the gospel, even in the face of persecution. It offers several key takeaways for contemporary readers:Joy Amidst Adversity: Paul's ability to find joy in challenging circumstances serves as an inspiration for believers facing trials.Prioritizing the Gospel: Despite his own challenges, Paul's primary concern remains the spread of the gospel. This challenges believers to evaluate their own priorities in life.Unity in Faith: Paul's call for unity and standing firm in one spirit is a timely message in a world that often feels divisive and fragmented. The chapter serves as a powerful reminder that regardless of external circumstances, believers can find joy, purpose, and unity in Christ.
