We are absolutely delighted to welcome Richard Bliss, the founder and CEO of BlissPoint Consulting, as today's guest. Richard has focused his entire career on helping people with their social selling behavior. He is well-known both inside and outside of our industry as a LinkedIn Top Voices Influencer and an experienced executive communications leader. Stay tuned as Richard shares his story and offers practical insights on social selling, executive communication, and what truly builds influence on LinkedIn. Richard's Journey Richard began his career with 14 years in the National Guard, earning the rank of Captain, before moving into early enterprise technology in the late 1900s. He became a global evangelist during the rise of email as a business platform, emerging as a leading voice in email security when internet-based threats first appeared. He has spoken in 22 countries, hosted international technology conferences, and built a reputation for helping individuals and organizations understand how fast-moving technologies affect both work and life. Reinvention After Richard served as Chief Marketing Officer and helped the startup grow from under $1 million in revenue to more than $10 million, the company abruptly let him go. That forced him to rebuild from scratch, relying on his personal brand rather than a company title. He launched a long-running podcast, self-published a book, taught himself about social media, and reframed LinkedIn as a business media platform rather than a social one. A pivotal $800-a-month consulting role with a senior NetApp executive reopened doors that ultimately led to Richard founding his own company. Creating Opportunity Richard believes opportunity comes from deliberately placing yourself where it can find you. What others might view as setbacks, he sees as sequences that lead to better outcomes. Modern Credibility In today's digital-first world, people build credibility online long before they meet in person. Audiences constantly evaluate LinkedIn profiles, even when owners remain inactive. They judge professionalism, expertise, and trustworthiness based on what they see, which makes visibility unavoidable rather than optional. Small Businesses Have an Advantage Small business owners often outperform large organizations online because they speak in their own authentic voice. Without layers of corporate filtering, they can tell clear, personal stories and connect directly with their audience. With LinkedIn and generative AI, they can reach customers without gatekeepers, large budgets, or traditional media exposure. LinkedIn LinkedIn works best when treated as an ongoing conversation rather than a static profile or sales funnel. Profiles and posts should focus on the audience's problems and opportunities, rather than one's personal history. Forming Relationships Cold outreach and instant pitching undermine trust. Relationships form when value is given initially through attention, insight, and engagement. Comments, referrals, and thoughtful interaction create a natural sense of reciprocity, opening the door to future business conversations. Building Real Engagement Artificial engagement pods violate LinkedIn's rules, so they are increasingly penalized. Genuine collaboration comes from consistent, meaningful interaction with customers, partners, and peers. Thoughtful comments on others' posts help establish topic authority and increase visibility organically. Using AI Generative AI is most effective as a support tool, not a replacement for a human voice. While AI can help shape ideas and drafts, comments and conversations must remain personal. LinkedIn prioritizes authentic, real-time engagement and increasingly suppresses purely AI-generated content. Practical LinkedIn Rhythm That Actually Works Sustainable success on LinkedIn requires modest, consistent effort. A small number of meaningful comments each day and one to three posts per week outperform high-volume posting. Conversations should be allowed to develop fully before starting new ones, aligning with how LinkedIn distributes content. Events, AI, and the Power of In-Person Connection Despite advances in AI, live events remain irreplaceable. Shared physical experiences, eye contact, and informal conversations build trust in ways digital tools cannot. Competent professionals prepare for events by engaging attendees online beforehand, without pitching, so that in-person meetings feel like natural continuations of existing relationships. A DNA profile is a unique genetic fingerprint derived from an individual's DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). DNA is the fundamental genetic material found in the cells of all living organisms, and it carries the instructions that determine our physical characteristics and biological traits.A DNA profile is created by analyzing specific regions of an individual's DNA known as short tandem repeats (STRs) or single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). These regions exhibit variations between individuals, making them useful for identification purposes. DNA profiling involves extracting DNA from a biological sample, such as blood, saliva, hair, or semen, and then amplifying and analyzing the specific DNA regions of interest.Law enforcement agencies use DNA profiling in several ways:Criminal Investigations: When biological evidence is found at a crime scene, such as bloodstains or hair, DNA profiling can be performed to create a DNA profile from the sample. This profile can then be compared to profiles in DNA databases or against known suspects to identify or exclude potential perpetrators.Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains: DNA profiling plays a crucial role in identifying missing persons and unidentified remains. By comparing DNA profiles from unidentified remains to profiles of missing individuals or their relatives, law enforcement can establish familial relationships or make direct identifications.Cold Case Investigations: In cold cases, where the investigation has gone unresolved for an extended period, DNA profiling can be used to reexamine evidence and potentially link it to a known individual or identify new suspects.Forensic Intelligence: DNA profiles obtained from crime scenes can be stored in DNA databases, such as CODIS (Combined DNA Index System), which allows law enforcement agencies to compare profiles from different cases. This can help link previously unrelated crimes and provide leads for investigations. In this episode, we take a look at the new claims by Bryan Kohberger's legal team that 3 other unknown male DNA profiles were found at the crime scene and what it might mean moving forward.(commercial at 8:30)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Bryan Kohberger claims DNA from three other men found at scene of Idaho murders | The IndependentBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-moscow-murders-and-more--5852883/support.

"Of all the books in the OT, Isaiah is perhaps the richest. Its literary grandeur is unequaled. Its scope is unparalleled. The breadth of its view of God is unmatched. In so many ways it is a book of superlatives. Thus, it is no wonder that Isaiah is the most quoted prophet in the NT, and along with Psalms and Deuteronomy, one of the most frequently cited of all OT books. Study of it is an opportunity for unending inspiration and challenge…it comes to us as a word from God, a revelation of the inevitable conflict between divine glory and human pride, of self-destruction which that pride must bring, and of the grace of God in restoring that destroyed humanity to himself. To read the book with the open eyes of the spirit is to see oneself, at times all too clearly, but also to see God whose holiness is made irresistible by his love." - Dr. John Oswalt from his two-volume commentary on the book of Isaiah. Dr. John Oswalt is our very special guest this week and next on Apologetics Profile. He will be taking us through some of the highlights of this magisterial theological work. His insights will better equip you to give a defense to non-believers who doubt the history and authorship of Isaiah. LeMay Takes Command and the Napalm Tests — James M. Scott — Scott profiles Curtis LeMay as a "hardscrabble" problem solver and pragmatist who financed his university education through brutal labor in steel mills, contrasting sharply with the aristocratic intellectual background of Hansell. Scott characterizes LeMay as a pragmatist willing to circumvent bureaucratic procedures and institutional constraints to achieve military objectives, including the unorthodox practice of utilizing opium to compensate native tribes for rescuing downed American airmen behind Japanese lines. Scott details the American military's systematic preparation for urban firebombing operations through development of napalm incendiary weapons and intensive testing conducted on a meticulously constructed mock Japanese village in the Utah desert, complete with traditional tatami mats and wooden structures representative of Japanese residential architecture, to validate incendiary weapon effectiveness against wooden urban construction. Scottdocuments that LeMay systematically concludes that Hansell's high-altitude precision bombing doctrine represents an "unsolvable equation" doomed to perpetual failure, prompting LeMay to contemplate radical tactical reorientation. 1934 TOKYO
What if the strongest leaders in your school are already in the classroom and do not need a new title to make a bigger impact? In this inspiring episode of Aspire to Lead, Joshua Stamper sits down with educator, author, and department chair Dr. Chris Jochum to unpack his book You Don't Have to Leave to Lead, that reframes teachers as highly skilled influencers, not “just” a teacher. Dr. Jochum shares how his journey from ESL and Spanish teacher to leading a large teacher education department shaped his belief that leadership is rooted in character, courage, and service, and that teachers already practice Fortune 500–level leadership every day in their classrooms. Listeners will learn how to strengthen their leadership identity, craft a personal mission statement that actually guides daily decisions, and approach conflict with adults using the same relational skills they use with students. Whether you are a first-year teacher or a veteran educator wondering about your next chapter, this conversation offers a clear first step, recognize the “superpowers” you already have and choose one small leadership behavior to intentionally grow this year so you can expand your influence without ever leaving the classroom. About Dr. Chris Jochum Dr. Chris Jochum currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Teacher Education at Fort Hays State University, where he leads a teacher preparation program of over 900 students. His career, spanning more than two decades in K-12 and higher education, began in the public schools teaching Spanish and English as a Second Language before holding faculty appointments at the University of Central Missouri and the University of Nebraska at Kearney. His research focuses on leadership development in both K-12 and higher education, as well as the value of study abroad. As the founder and CEO of CJ Leadership Solutions, LLC, Chris translates his research into practice and is a sought-after speaker, trainer, and coach in the United States and abroad. He hosts The Department Chair Leadership Podcast and is the author of The Department Chair: A Practical Guide to Effective Leadership, You Don't Have to Leave to Lead: A Practical Guide to Teacher Leadership, and co-editor of the forthcoming book, Profiles in Educational Leadership: A Practical Approach. Just before midnight on December 6, 1991, an Austin, TX patrol officer called in a fire at a yogurt shop and requested firefighters and additional officers. Once they managed to get the fire under control, firefighters discovered the bodies of four teenage girls in the burned out remains of the building, all having been shot execution style and the building torched to cover up the crime.Almost immediately, investigators on the case ran into a dead end, as leads were scarce and the fire and efforts to extinguish it destroyed or compromised critical evidence. In short time, the case went cold and the residents of Austin moved on. To their surprise, nearly ten years later, Austin detectives announced they'd arrested for young men for the crime, two of whom confessed, and it seemed like, after a long delay, justice would finally be served; however, in this case, justice was still a long way off and when it finally arrived, it came tainted by police misconduct.ReferencesAssociated Press. 1992. Ten years ago, a gavel dropped in a conference hall north of Paris. It was the moment the world agreed on a strategic plan for one of the most consequential transformations in human history. But, a decade later, what has the Paris Agreement truly delivered?Christiana Figueres, Tom Rivett-Carnac and Paul Dickinson pull back the curtain on the moment that changed global climate politics. The emotional reality of that night, the fragile trust built after the failure of Copenhagen, and the architecture of cooperation that still shapes the world today.Looking back, they ask: was it diplomacy's greatest breakthrough, or the beginning of a myth we still rely on? Can an agreement built on voluntary commitments survive as the world becomes increasingly fragmented? Is the Paris Agreement still our best chance at limiting the impacts of climate change - or simply the only chance we have?Learn more:▶️ Watch Christiana's Ted Talk

Denise Poncher, 73, has spent her life noticing experiences that call her to create. A multidisciplinary artist—-creative writer, documentary photographer, custom art framer, collagist, fiber explorer—-she treats each medium as a path toward deeper understanding. Legacy writing now invites her to weave together difficult losses of significant people with joyful threads of being a nurturing grandmother. How have industry and technology shaped our understanding of ourselves and of our understanding and relationship with God? How have such intellectual and societal trends contributed to the rise of atheism and unbelief? I'm excited to talk to Carlo Rotella today. Carlo is Professor of English at Boston College. His books include The World Is Always Coming to an End: Pulling Together and Apart in a Chicago Neighborhood (University of Chicago Press, 2019); Playing in Time: Essays, Profiles, and Other True Stories (University of Chicago Press, 2012); Cut Time: An Education at the Fights (Houghton Mifflin, 2003); and October Cities (University of California Press, 1998). He has written for the New York Times, The Boston Globe, The New Yorker, and Harper's. Today, we discuss Carlo's new book, What Can I Get Out of This?: Teaching and Learning in a Classroom Full of Skeptics (University of California Press, 2025). The book does two things. It directly reports what happened in a class Carlo taught in the spring of 2020. Carlo interviews students in the semesters after the class ended, learning what students were going through while they were taking your class, and also what stood out in their memories years later. The second thing the book does is offer hands-on lessons from a life of teaching. Throughout the book, Carlo discusses how to deal with a class that hates the novel that you assigned, how to reach out to a student who falls silent, and how to introduce the multitude of ways of being enthusiastic about literature to skeptical students. In Part Six of the Mike Tyson career profile, we enter one of the most dramatic chapters in the life of the youngest heavyweight champion in history. This segment covers the peak of Tyson's dominance inside the ring—alongside the chaos that began to consume his world outside of it. The episode opens with Tyson's explosive showdown against Michael Spinks, a fight built up as the ultimate test for the undefeated champion. In just 91 unforgettable seconds, Tyson demolished Spinks, cementing his position as the most feared boxer on the planet. We also revisit his bout with Tony Tubbs in Tokyo—a fight that at the time seemed routine, but in hindsight foreshadowed a darker future. Away from the spotlight of arenas and title belts, Tyson's life was spiraling. His tumultuous marriage to Robin Givens, marked by public conflict and media scrutiny, became a national spectacle. The death of mentor and manager Jim Jacobs—one of the last stabilizing forces in Mike's life—left a void that would never be filled. With Don King beginning to exert influence, friendships fractured and discipline faded. This part concludes with the night that shook the boxing world: February 11, 1990. Tyson vs. Buster Douglas in Tokyo—where the unstoppable champion was finally brought crashing to earth. Through a mix of behind-the-scenes turmoil, loss of focus, and an inspired challenger, Iron Mike suffered one of the greatest upsets in sports history. Learn more about your ad choices. On Thursday, November 20, the Oregon Department of Education released At-A-Glance School and District Profiles for the 2024-25 school year. The Profiles are designed to provide a consistent set of school and district level information to local communities. They contain previously released assessment data for last school year, previously released graduation data for the class of 2024, and some new data for the 2024-25 school year. Because the state uses consistent sources of data and calculation methods for all schools and districts, its reports are useful for comparison purposes - both between schools and districts and within individual entities on a year-over-year basis. However, data on statewide standardized assessment results in English Language Arts and Mathematics tell a bit of a misleading story of our students' knowledge and skills. A number of students opt out of these tests, and because they are not used for placement, grade promotion, or for any other success measure in school, we have seen students and families place far less importance on them in recent years. For this reason, we have identified other measures for determining students' growth and learning on a rolling basis and are using that data to track progress toward our Strategic Plan goals. For example, we are using HSD-administered assessments called Running Records to measure proficiency in English and/or Spanish reading. You can find the District's and each school's At-A-Glance Profile in the Accountability section of our website. Additional information can be found in ODE's press release and on their At-A-Glance Profiles and Accountability Details webpage. Our featured event is the fall Career and College Pathways Steering Committee meeting that was held on Thursday, November 20, at Hilhi. This amazing group of industry partners, educators, and community leaders plays a key role in helping us create clear and exciting pathway opportunities for every HSD student. Superintendent Travis Reiman kicked off the morning by sharing the latest district data and indicators tied to student success and postsecondary readiness. Melissa Pendergrass, Coordinator of Career and College Pathways, framed the day by emphasizing the value of authentic partnerships and high-quality work-based learning. She spoke about how real world experiences not only benefit students but also create a powerful return on investment for local employers who are building their future workforce. Participants then jumped into a lineup of interactive workshops that explored everything from supervising youth at worksites to designing meaningful hands-on experiences, understanding the long term benefits of investing in youth career development, and more. Conversations were lively, solutions oriented, and full of ideas that will directly support students. HSD extends a huge thank you to everyone who joined us. Your partnership helps ensure that students discover their interests, build real skills, and feel excited about their futures. We look forward to continuing this work together throughout the year.Hot News is produced and emailed to HSD families and staff each week school is in session. Please add the address to your “safe sender” list to make sure you always receive the latest issue. Please also bookmark our district website: hsd.k12.or.us to stay informed about what's happening in our district and schools.

What intellectual and social paradigms have made atheism seem like a plausible and viable alternative worldview in the 21st century? What factors have contributed to the cultural dissolution of the Christian faith in our time? On the next two episodes of the Profile, we will tackle some of these questions with our guest, author and teaching fellow of the Davenant Institute in Landrum, South Carolina, Dr. Joseph Minich. Minich's 2023 book Bulwarks of Unbelief - Atheism and Divine Absence in a Secular Age explores the thesis that the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century has created intellectual and social plausibility structures for modern-day unbelief. Henry Kaiser: The Builder of Liberty Ships — Arthur Herman — Herman profiles Henry Kaiser, the second transformative figure in Freedom's Forge. Kaiser, a road construction entrepreneur who had previously coordinated monumental infrastructure projects including the Boulder Dam, demonstrated relentless commitment to ambitious thinking and delivery ahead of schedule and under budget constraints. In late 1940, Kaiser persuaded both British and American governments to contract him to construct "throwaway freighters"—Liberty ships—despite possessing no prior shipbuilding experience. Between 1941 and 1945, Kaiser successfully built 2,710 Liberty ships, fundamentally enabling Allied logistics and supply operations. 1941
