It's time for the Small-Screen Shameful of Listeners Choice Month... brace yourselves. Listeners Choice Month continues with discussion of a Small-Screen Shameful (a film that never made it to the big screen) in the Pureflix film The Encounter starring... yes... Steve "Sting" Borden. The regular guest for wrasslin'-themed episodes, Ryan Gilbert, comes back to help the guys dissect a movie that is essentially a number of conversations in one location. It also stars a very rude and love-starved Jesus and the guys talk about the movie starting like a horror film set-up, inconsistent superpowers, how the ending LITERALLY spells it out for the viewers and much more. Plus: Nathan proves that he's been everywhere. Listeners Choice continues next week with discussion of the Vin Diesel-less sequel, xXx: State of the Union. Ai-yah! Ai-yah! Ai-yah! Listeners Choice Month begins with a rather digestible slice of 90s cheese as Nathan and Brendan discuss the 1992 hit 3 Ninjas! They discuss this kids movie alarmingly featuring a scene where someone holds a gun to a child's head, the villain of the film employing the most worthless ninjas ever, terribly obvious stunt doubles, the movie setting up toilet humour and not delivering, the stoner bruh kidnappers and more. Plus: Nathan waxes philosophical about a classic movie theme song. Listeners Choice continues next week with a Small-Screen Shameful in the form of The Encounter starring Steve "Sting" Borden. We're talking about the last film you saw before the first lockdown hit this morning PLUS Nathan tells us how Donald Trump likes his steak.
This morning’s events were slightly odd BUT nothing out of the ordinary for Nathan, Nat, & Shaun… because there was a tattoo artist in the studio and our digital guy Tim came good on his promise of getting a #freebritney tattoo on his arm! Perth Wildcat Mitch Norton & Rogue Traders frontwoman Nat Bass also joined the guys for a chat to give them the latest PLUS Nathan fills everyone in on a hilarious (and slightly dark) encounter he had with someone who DM’d him on Insta! Yikes. The February tradition continues with Nathan's wife Patty picking the movie for the podcast and she has bestowed the 2010 romantic comedy The Switch upon the show. This movie was a lot more disturbing than usual so get ready for Nathan to break down why he believed it was written by an incel and how the premise alone is problematic, the guys discuss how Patrick Wilson is definitely not a villain, they discuss the existence of insemination parties, how Diane Sawyer is used as a pivotal plot point, Brendan is disgusted by the absolute worst euphemism for semen and much more. Plus: Nathan has strong opinions about ducks. The guys also drop a hint for next week's movie. Check on Facebook or Twitter on Monday for the reveal! Some. Most. Sufficient Assumption. Inference. The LSAT is full of jargon. Some of it useful, and some of it…not so much. What makes matters worse is that many LSAT prep companies confuse students’ understanding by building unnecessary complexities into the study process. In this episode, the guys hear from a listener who just can’t quite understand “existential quantifiers,” hard as he may try. The thing is: the guys have no idea what “existential quantifiers” even means—especially not in the context of the LSAT. Nathan and Ben do their best to bring clarity to this confused 1L hopeful. Plus Nathan advocates for doing more inquiring and less note taking, the guys hear about a life-changing 20-point improvement, and they offer up a PSA about talking and LSAT-ing. As the sword drop draws nearer, the This Is X Of Swords team gets way more extra than normal. First up, Arturo is on a mission -- he's going to get Raven to dig these books, where she's concerned about pacing (but definitely not concerned about the cats)! Meanwhile, Rod pours his heart out about why Ororo Munroe is THE BEST, which Arturo & Raven can't help but agree. Next up, as Jonah calls it, The Sinister Show -- or moreover, Hellions! Nico maintains it didn't need to be a number part of XOS which Josh & Matty can't help but agree, before the whole team gets deep into the history of the industry, the evolution of line editorship, and the possible Legacy of Fallen Angels? All this, PLUS Nathan, Robbie, Kyle, & Evelyn tackle one of the best books Marvel's released in some time in the pages of Marvel's Indigenous Voices, with special focus on Dani Moonstar, leading Evelyn to want to read more, and sending Kyle, Robbie, & Nathan back to the back issues to reread her classic stories (and there's even a little room for Nico all-time-fav, Echo!)! All this and more on an all new X Is For Podcast!
Nick K sits in whilst Graham is away and he's got an obsession about kites! Plus Nathan needs help with his emails.
This week, Jason MacLeod of "For Screen and Country" comes back to hang out with the guys and discuss the Owen Wilson/Gene Hackman war thriller - Behind Enemy Lines. The gang talk about how a movie makes a scary real-life conflict into a pretty fluffy action zinger while also discussing stuff like Owen Wilson's nose, the stormtrooper-like aim by all the villains, the in-your-face style of the cinematography and much more. Plus: Nathan pitches the ultimate TV show. The guys also drop a hint for next week's movie. Check on Facebook or Twitter on Monday for the reveal! “Klondike Crunch – It’s The Product Of Adultery!” It’s a miracle – on this week’s episode of the Hey Poor Podcast, I “Diehard Sony Fanboy Apparently” Coleman, Anthony “Persona 5 Came Out And So Did I” Spivey, Nathan “I Didn’t Know I Was Muted” Terencio, and Jay “Kylo Ren Apologist” Petrequin manage to pretty much stay on topic the entire time. Shocking, I know, but that’s what happens when we have so many things to talk about, whether it’s debating the merits of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 reboot, gushing over Persona 5, or dissecting the many high-profile trailers that dropped this week.
