This week, Jeanette and Mero join forces to talk about the 2004 American Action-Adventure Heist film, National Treasure. Directed by Jon Turteltaub and written by Jim Kouf and the Wibberleys, the film stars Nicolas Cage as Benjamin Franklin Gates, a middle aged man who searches for a massive lost Freemason treasure that has been hidden away by the founding fathers of the United States. With the help of his computer sick kick expert and a Pennsylvania Dutch archivist, Benjamin Franklin Gates makes excuses to steal the Declaration of Independence and expose it to "harsh" chemicals like lemon and bad breath. From Nicolas Cage being Nicolas Cage to this movie is brought to you by Visa, Jeanette and Mero decide if this is a movie Cage has to complete to cover back taxes. Thank you Mero for stopping by to talk about this Uncharted-esq film.
Another Patreon exclusive is out of the vault and we're talking the 1992 movie 3 Ninjas! Are Jake and Cody recording together for the first time? What do we think about the UFO/UAP news? Is one of us an alien? Did an alien make this movie? Was ninja stock up in the 90s? Does the movie hold up? Was the grandpa's stunt double obvious? How is 9/11 connected to this movie and actor Victor Wong? Would Tum Tum survive in real life? Would be be able to defeat the 3 Ninjas in a fight? Is Anthony taking the 3 Ninjas side? Why couldn't the villain Snyder tell that the undercover white cop at the beginning of the movie wasn't Arab? Was Snyder a generic 90s villain? Why was the only black kid in the movie cast as a bully? Was the dad a racist? Was he an absent father? Does he deadname his children? Are the 3 Ninjas ACAB? What happened to their babysitter after they were kidnapped? Would we be the 3 stoner villains in the movie? Were they similar to Bill & Ted/Koopa's henchmen in the 90s Super Mario Bros. Movie? Could we take the kidnappers in a fight? Was Anthony inspired as a kid to use laxative against home intruders? What scenes do we remember the most vividly? When was the last time we all watched this movie? Do we like this more than Super Mario Bros. 93? Did this movie have any notable actors? How is this movie connected to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie? Was the TMNT movie not made for kids? What else has the director of this movie, Jon Turteltaub, made? Are we planning to do an episode on Warriors of Virtue? Is Cody doing stand-up comedy with a bunch of big names in LA this week? What happened to sketch comedy? What is Jake's Patreon exclusive dark secret? What is the scar of shame? Who had the best first dark secret? Who should be murdered for their dark secret? Which 3 Ninjas would each of us be? Why do Snyder's henchmen wear plastic visors? Did the 3 Ninjas boil a guy's face off? Does the soundtrack have too much whimsy? Would these kids be taken by CPS? Who would win: the 3 Ninjas or Kevin McCallister from Home Alone? Can the Pigeon Lady and Shovel Man take on the grandpa? Who had better traps for the bad guys: Kevin or the 3 Ninjas? Is diarrhea their only weapon? Did the 3 Ninjas almost murder a guy by hanging? Was Emily an undercover agent for Snyder… or secretly his daughter?! Who had the coolest mask? Which ninja was the best actor? Does Cody have any ninja skills? Would he be the greatest or worst ninja? Would Cody survive a ninja attack? Should they reboot the 3 Ninjas? Who would play are grandpa if we were cast in the reboot? Do we have the Stephen Rosenfield-like ability to get $7000 from each Patron? Could we have beaten the bullies in a game of basketball? Does 2 months of training as a ninja equal dope basketball skills? Are the sequels to this movie any good? While You Were Sleeping is a 1995 Romantic Comedy directed by Jon Turteltaub. This is the story of Lucy Moderatz played by Sandra Bullock. Lucy is a very lonely train fair token collector in Chicago. She daydreams of a more exciting life and secretly loves Peter Callaghan, a handsome commuter played by Peter Gallagher, whom she has never actually spoken to. On Christmas day Peter falls onto the train tracks and Lucy rescues him, and after a wild miscommunication at the hospital Peter's family believes that Lucy is his fiance… all this occurring, while Peter is in a coma. Also want to mention Jack played by Bill Pullman as Peter's brother. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
One half of the Movie Rankers Podcast Duo (James) joins Jon and I for another summary of blockbuster millionaire producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Did he make all those millions just from episodes of The Amazing Race prior to building his CSI and Pirates of the Caribbean production house? Is he a popcorn producer or do some of his mega-hits actually have some substance to audiences? Did he become not as prominent once he stopped using directors like Jon Turteltaub, Michael Bay & Tony Scott? Why'd he take his name off of Geostorm but not The Lone Ranger as well? We were very fortunate to have the amazing and prolific Film Director, Jon Turteltaub, talk with us. He was a senior when we were freshmen at Beverly High. He got his first big break directing 3 Ninjas, which led to getting Cool Runnings. Then he went on to direct Phenomenon with John Travolta, the Kid with Bruce Willis and the National Treasure films with his old classmate Nicolas Cage. That's just naming a few of his movies. He also Produces and Directs TV shows such as Jericho. He gives us all the inside scoop on being a director from BH and we also discuss his father who was a legendary writer on the Carol Burnette Show, Sanford and Son and What's Happening. We also get into some of the humanitarian efforts he does to give back. He's got great stories about his career, working with Nicolas Cage, and even a story about Tom Hanks. Please Subscribe if you like what we're doing (or even if you don't) and give us a rating (only if you like us) and talk to us on Facebook or Instagram and most importantly share the podcast with two friends. This year to celebrate Ninj-ativity 3 we celebrate the 30th anniversary of meeting Rocky, Colt, and Tum Tum in Jon Turteltaub's “3 Ninjas.” We take a deep dive into the film, the exceedingly strange nature of its production and distribution, and how this film that the Boston Globe said “…Crosses Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Home Alone!” was able to find a place in not only the hearts and minds of the you host-companions but an entire generation. Bonus: In keeping with the theme of trimming eleven minutes from the film for release in America we recorded a full eleven-ish minutes of off-topic material celebrating the 50th anniversary of the “Immaculate Reception.”
Tune in as Ryan Conner (Millennial Coffee Break) comes back to 2CC for the third episode of Christmas Month 2022, where we're sharing our thoughts and feelings on While You Were Sleeping, the 1995 Christmas-y rom-com starring Sandra Bullock as a lonely train station tollbooth worker who falls for a man, then falls for his family—but only after she saves him from getting run over by a train, then gets herself tangled up in a huge lie about her being his fiancée. A few of the topics that Arthur and Ryan comment on are characters breaking numerous moral and ethical boundaries in WYWS, the theoretical importance of leaning, farcical comedy's love of the miscommunication trope, and movie titles getting dropped with varying levels of clumsiness somewhere into the dialogue. Directed by Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure), While You Were Sleeping stars Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman, Peter Gallagher, Peter Boyle, Jack Warden, Glynis Johns, Micole Mercurio, Jason Bernard, Michael Rispoli, Ally Walker, Monica Keena, Ruth Rudnick, Marcia Wright, and Dick Cusack. Jon Turteltaub has show business coursing through his veins. Jon's father was the well known Saul Turteltaub. The Producer-Writer behind a numerous number of hit television shows like, “Sanford and Son”, “The Carol Burnett Show”, “What's Happening” and so much more. Jon himself, is no slouch. He is one of Hollywood's top directors. He's not shy about telling you that himself. He has directed a slew of box office hits, like “While You Were Sleeping” with “Sandra Bullock” and “National Treasure” with “Nicholas Cage”. This is just a modest amount of his cinematic prowess. Jon Turteltaub's theatrical accomplishments has made him a national treasure. But to me Jon is more than just a google page of achievements. This podcast conversation reveals Jon's true heart. He comes off as a kind hearted empathetic earnest soul. He gives us a glimpse of the man only his wife, his kids and a few close friends get to meet. This person is who I experienced Jon to be from working with him on the set of one of his earliest hits, “Cool Runnings” staring “John Candy”. In this conversation, Jon blends candidness with a dash of honesty. One cannot help but feel his childlike excitement, passion and love for his profession as a director. His enthusiasm is palpable as he strings his words together like a necklace, dripping with pearls of wisdom. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rawle-d/message

This week, Nathan and Clint meet up for a rare in-person podcast! It's a double-dose of fantastical, flop-haired Cage this week, as he fights the forces of evil with swords, magic, and no small amount of dodgy CGI sorcery. First up is his third and final Disney collab with Jon Turteltaub, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, where he plays Obi-Wan (with a sick leather trenchcoat) to a baby wizard played by Jay Baruchel at peak nebbish nerdiness. It's ostensibly an adaptation of that bit from Fantasia where Mickey Mouse makes the mops dance, but filtered through a buttload of Harry Potter and a vastly overqualified cast. Then, we go small for the folk horror-inspired slog Season of the Witch, where Cage and Ron Perlman play deserters from the Crusades tasked with escorting a maybe-witch (Claire Foy) to a distant monastery where they might exorcise her. There are glimmers of some neat Hammer horror darkness -- see plague-ridden Christopher Lee -- but it's otherwise a dim, cheap action-horror pastiche. On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are doing what a whole lot more people should be doing: Doing what Jason Statham tells us to do and staying out of the water. It's the 2018 film from Jon Turteltaub, The Meg. Some of you may think he's just some English meathead who's been in a few excellent Guy Ritchie films and a whole lot more terrible films from other directors. What you may not know is he's secretly a genius oceanographer and deep sea diver. You think I'm making things up? I think you're not giving the great Statham the credit he so rightly deserves! He saved all of our lives from an enormous, nearly unstoppable megalodon shark and you have the temerity to deny him his bona fides? How dare you. This is just another example of how hard the prettiest and richest people in the world have it. You have no idea. We've got an action film hero who just wants to demonstrate his love of the deep, blue sea and a bunch of armchair critics are demanding that he stay in his lane. Well, not this guy! I'm 100% in camp Statham. When the next installment in the obviously a documentary series, The Meg 2: The Trench, comes out in 2023, I'll be there celebrating this great man's wonderful scientific achievements. Because that's what a real fan does. Journey with us back to the distant year of 2010, a time when Walt Disney Pictures was wildly desperate to launch another multi-million dollar franchise that would convince teenage boys to give them money. Enter The Sorcerer's Apprentice, an ostensible live-action adaptation of a Fantasia segment that would reteam National Treasure director Jon Turteltaub with National Treasure scenery gnawer Nicolas Cage. Audiences at the time didn't take to the idea of Nic Cage wearing a flowing wig and leather duster casting magic goop at Alfred Molina, but we sure did! Listen in as Leigh, Brendan, and Chris discuss aspects of a movie they all mostly liked, from the use of magic to the performances to the locale (you know, it's almost like New York City should be the fourth-billed character in the movie!). Don't worry, we have some bad stuff to talk about as always along with our fixes AND of course there's a really great summery cocktail for you to enjoy as you listen to OneRepublic's "Secrets (Jay Baruchel Tesla Coil Remix)." The Sorcerer's Apprentice is an ode to Disney's 1940 film Fantasia. Born from an idea Nicolas Cage had, it builds an entire mythos from that brief section of the aforementioned film. Balthazar Blake, Cage, is a sorcerer searching for the rightful heir to Merlin—his former master. He was given a ring by the legendary wizard as he lie dying. That ring will signal the chosen one, who happens to be a bumbling nerd, Dave (played by Jay Baruchel). Anyway, it's all fairly silly and dumb, but also decently fun. That is thanks in part to Alfred Molina's Horvath—the sorcerer who betrayed Merlin and Balthazar, aligning himself with the evil Morgana. The repartee between he and Cage is worth the hour and 40 minutes alone. But alas, for critics, the dumb outweighed the fun. The Sorcerer's Apprentice, which reunited Cage with National Treasure director Jon Turteltaub, sits at just 40% on Rotten Tomatoes with 173 reviews. Viewers failed to see its magic, too. They scored it a 53%. Thus, its $215.3 million box office isn't all that shocking. On a budget of $150 million, its failure to cast a sequel isn't surprising either. Now, sit back, let your tastebuds conjure some magic from a Japanese Green Tea IPA from Stone Brewing, and don't touch anything! I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Chumpzilla, and Capt. Cash are firing plasma bolts and wearing our finest old man shoes! This Week's Segments: Introduction/Plot Breakdown – A job so great, it's magic! Pete and Martha sure did read a book for this episode. We take a dip back into the early aughts, when conspiracy theories were fun and fake news was about the Illuminati hiding treasure in tombs and not about lizard people sex traffickers. This week the group continues the magic of "Caged Love" month with the 2010 love story, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, where Nic Cage and Alfred Molina fight over an antique nesting doll and Jay Baruchel has to take up the mantle of the Prime Merlinian, which sounds like an insult rather than a title with some gravitas. Directed by National Treasure's Jon Turteltaub and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, this story had the fellas considering putting an additional parental advisory on the episode. Jokes are 100% NSFW and even less safe to listen to around the younglings. Also in this episode Sarcastro gives the rest of the group a couple of ideas for gifts for his birthday or Christmas based on items in the movie.
On this episode the group continues the theme of "Caged Love" month by picking up their torches and joining Nic Cage and friends in absurd plot to stop Sean Bean and his amazing hair from gaining treasures that were squirreled away by the Knights Templar, the Founding Fathers and Freemason in the film National Treasure. Directed by Jon Turteltaub of Cool Runnings fame, it also stars Diane Kruger; Justin Bartha, Harvey Keitel and Jon Voight's hairpiece. If the plot sounds ridiculous, that's because it is. This is also a film that Fatty reminds us that everyone should inform their children, while based on historical plot points, it's historically inaccurate. But even better it's what inspired himto plan his second career by taking tourists on his National Treasure tour of historic Philadelphia.
Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it's podcast time! We're feeling very Olympic today as we discuss Cool Runnings, the story of the Jamaican bobsled team in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. We discuss late eighties fashion, the cold hard truth of the cold, teaching kids about racism, the lessons we learn from failure, countless one- liners, and much more! Cool Runnings is a 1993 American comedy sports film directed by Jon Turteltaub and starring Leon Robinson, Doug E. Doug, Rawle D. Lewis, Malik Yoba, and John Candy. It is loosely based on the true story of the Jamaica national bobsleigh team's debut in competition during the 1988 Winter Olympics. Cool Runnings was released in the United States on October 1, 1993 to generally positive reviews. The film's soundtrack also became popular with Jimmy Cliff performing a cover of Johnny Nash's "I Can See Clearly Now", which reached the top 40 as a single in the United States, Canada, France, and the United Kingdom.
