After a brief introduction and overview (0:02), Blaine welcomes Donovan and the two hosts begin with why 'Black Rabbit' on Netflix is so digestible, which has a lot to do with stars Jude Law and Jason Bateman (1:00). Then Blaine advises Donovan to avoid the new Apple TV+ drama 'The Last Frontier' with non-spoiler reasons (3:23) but encourages him to catch up on 'Chad Powers' because it is more than funny as he explains what it examines (7:02). They then talk about the first three episodes of the FX and Hulu series 'The Lowdown' with no spoilers (10:54) as well as the fifth powerful episode of 'Task' (18:03). Shifting into the spoilers, Blaine and Donovan come to a temporary conclusion on what 'The Lowdown' has to say, especially in episodes three and four (20:38). Then they break down one of the best episodes of the year with the fifth episode of the HBO crime drama 'Task' (38:14). Send us a textWe start the show by breaking down Taylor Swift's box office takeover. Her new concert film pulled in over $33 million this weekend—crushing The Rock's Smashing Machine and proving, once again, that Swifties might just be single-handedly keeping theaters alive. But is this really the path to saving cinema, or is it a one-off Taylor phenomenon? This leads us into a larger discussion on whether event-style experiences—like Barbenheimer—are the only way to get people off the couch and back into theaters. We pivot to Saturday Night Live's season premiere and its five new cast members. Has Lorne Michaels officially hit the creative wall after 50 years? This leads us into a debate on whether SNL's problem is the cast, the writing, or simply a show refusing to admit it's run out of things to say.Angelo then gives his take on 'One Battle After Another'. Does he agree that it is as much of a cinematic masterpiece as Jay thinks it is?THEN: BRITISH CORNER: Rhea reviews season four Apple TV's Slow Horses. Why does Rhea think the show is so "smooth" How does the pacing of the show contribute to her review?Angelo follows up with his review of Netflix's Black Rabbit, starring Jason Bateman and Jude Law. Then, in response to Jay's movie recommendation last week, Angelo recommends a old time movie to remember what real storytelling looks like. What makes that older film feel more human, more emotional, and—frankly—more watchable than a $150 million modern epic like ' One Battle After Another'.We wrap up with one big question: Is Jay a cinematic visionary… or just a man who spent $15 to watch elephant poop on the big screen? Either way, tune in next week to find out who's right—and whether SNL finally finds a punchline.LISTEN NOW to stay up to date on all you need to know regarding the latest and greatest in television and the big screens.MAKE SURE TO VISIT OUR SPONSOR: Steven Singer Jewelers! The TV Show is a weekly podcast hosted by Jay Black, with regular guests Angelo Cataldi and Rhea Hughes. Send us a textWe start the show by giving our thoughts on HBO's ‘Task'. From the same creators of “Mayor of Kingstown', how do feel it matches up against the long running HBO franchise? This leads us into a discussion as to whether we grade shows differently based on if we know the area it takes place in.Kimmel and Colbert had a joint simulcast on each other shows the other night. This leads us into a discussion about the overwhelming uproar on Kimmel and Colbert‘s suspensions. From our conversation last episode, is the recent Jimmy Kimmel situation (and the outcry that occurred from it) a clear indication that the first amendment is here to stay due to the self policing by the American people? Likewise, whatever happened to the late night host hating each other? Do we miss this and, most importantly, do we want it back?Despite filming not finished, Christopher Nolan's new movie, The Odyssey, has already has begun selling out in IMAX theaters across the country. This leads us into a short discussion on whether the screen size affects our movie going experiences. Are movies being made today even worth seeing in bigger screens, such as IMAX? Our answers might surprise you.THEN: British Corner. Rhea reviews the sixth season of ‘Unforgotten' on Acorn. As one of her favorite British shows of all time, why did she wait until the whole season came out to review it? What does this have to say about how Acorn, and British shows as a whole, release their content? Why is this murder mystery, in particularly this season, so intriguing and such a must watch in Rhea's eyes?Angelo reviews Netflix's 'Black Rabbit'. What about Jason Bateman‘s performance in this show makes it a must watch? He also give a cliff hanger for a British Rom- Com for Rhea to review next week.Jay finishes up the show by giving us, what he believes, is the best movie of this decade. Editors - Vikash Patel, Cedric Nairn-Smith and Kyle Reiter ACE Black Rabbit editors Viks, Ced and Kyle worked independently during post but still managed to collectively craft a complex narrative that stayed consistent in tone and style throughout the run of the series. And while new guy Reiter described feeling like a "bench player" on the team, Viks and Ced benefited from a long working relationship that began with Viks mentoring Ced as his former assistant. Regardless of any of their past experiences, star and producer Jason Bateman tasked the post team with creating a vibe that had tendencies drawn from Bateman's Netflix hit, Ozark but also from dark comedies like the Safdie brothers' Uncut Gems. Black Rabbit tells the tale of two brothers, Vince and Jake Friedken, former bandmates in a successful musical act whose lives went down different paths in the years that followed. Rising-star restaurateur Jake is forced into New York's criminal underworld when his chaotic brother returns to town with loan sharks on his trail, opens the door to escalating dangers that threaten to bring down everything he's built. VIKASH PATEL In addition to his work on Black Rabbit, Viks won an Emmy® in 2008 for his work on TOP CHEF and was nominated for an Emmy® in 2020 for his work on OZARK. Viks has also edited series that include THE SYMPATHIZER (2024), THE MORNING SHOW (2019), BATES MOTEL (2015-16) and LONGMIRE (2012-14). CEDRIC NAIRN-SMITH Prior to Black Rabbit, Cedric's editorial work could be seen on DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN (2025), MOON KNIGHT (2022), LISEY'S STORY (2021), THE BOYS (2019-2020) and BATES MOTEL (2015-2017). KYLE REITER, ACE 4x Emmy® nominee Reiter has edited such shows as MR. AND MRS. SMITH (2024), BARRY (2018) and ATLANTA (2016), a series for which Kyle would win an ACE Eddie award in 2019. This week Andrew and Ted sit down to discuss what they thought of the first two episodes (out of 8) of the new Netflix original series "Black Rabbit", starring Jude Law and Jason Bateman. This drama / suspense follows two brothers (Law & Bateman) as they struggle with their personal lives as well as each other. While both struggling, personally, Bateman's character seems to be in deeper as he is trying to escape his past with some shady characters while Law's character is struggling chasing a dream. Their lives intertwine as their bonds as brothers, now that both parents have passed, hold onto what semblance of family remains as one (Law's character) is now dragged into the mess of the other (Bateman's character).

My guest today first joined us back in July 2025, and he's here again to share the remarkable journey he's had since his days at Club Med, this time as a creative force in the film and television industry. In 1996, he wrote and directed Kiss Me, Guido, which went on to premiere at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival. The film even earned a glowing review from none other than Janet Maslin, the esteemed critic at The New York Times. Both Kiss Me, Guido and his third feature, Life's a Beach, draw directly from his Club Med experience. It's an honor to welcome back to the podcast, Tony Vitale! In this episode, we dive into Tony's incredible journey in film and television. He tells us how he landed a job as a Location Scout on A Bronx Tale, Robert De Niro's directorial debut. We then explore Tony's own first feature, Kiss Me, Guido, which he not only wrote and directed but later adapted into a CBS sitcom starring Jason Bateman. From there, we move on to Life's a Beach, where Tony takes us behind the scenes of the production and shares hilarious stories about working with Christopher Walken and Rutger Hauer. If you love movies, television, and the fascinating process of bringing stories to life in Hollywood, this episode is a must-listen! **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available to download on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Podchaser, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora, and Listen Notes.
