Guest: Lt. Col. Andrew GayForecasts don't just matter for farmers, travelers, or weekend plans — they can influence decisions that ripple across the globe. Few people know that better than Major Andrew Gay, who has served as a meteorologist in the U.S. Air Force, at the White House, and at the Pentagon. In those roles, weather wasn't simply data — it was mission-critical information that could impact safety, security, and strategy at the highest levels. Today, we'll hear how his career has bridged science and service, and what it takes to forecast when the stakes couldn't be higher.Chapters00:00 The Importance of Weather Forecasting02:51 Andrew Gay's Journey to Meteorology05:56 Career Path in the Air Force08:53 Supporting Military Operations11:44 Weather Forecasting at the White House12:30 Break 114:44 Current Role and Responsibilities17:55 Challenges in Weather Forecasting21:52 Emerging Technologies in Meteorology22:26 Break 225:06 Effective Science Communication29:50 Advice for Aspiring MeteorologistsSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

You get dropped right into geek therapy this week as you bounce from cult-favorite movies to Pixar shorts, then straight into practical Mac and iOS wins. You learn how to use the twenty-minute rule to bail on bad movies guilt-free, long-press your iPhone's brightness to reveal Dark Mode and other hidden controls, and turn Live Listen into your stealth superpower for staying connected in noisy rooms. You also tighten up your iOS workflow by wrangling multiple photos, files, and links at once, and even rethink how often you actually need to say “Hey” to your devices. Don't Get Caught missing the little system tweaks that make your Apple gear feel brand new again. From there, you dig into real-world listener problems and come away with a cleaner network, a smarter Mac, and a more resilient data setup. You troubleshoot eerie eero behavior and learn how to coax stubborn 2.4 GHz-only devices onto your Wi-Fi, then set your Mac to auto-launch apps on wake with tools like Keyboard Maestro and Advanced SleepWatcher. You untangle VPN weirdness, then go full NAS-ty with guidance on migrating to a new Synology and choosing the right model using MGG's comparison as your roadmap. You wrap it all with Cool Stuff Found: Setapp's new plans, rock-solid MailBackupX, US Mobile for nerdy cellular control, ForeverNotes for wrangling your brain, Titanium Software utilities, AppleCare+ plus Apple One savings, and TP-Link's Wi-Fi Toolkit turning your iPhone or iPad into a pocket network analyzer. 00:00:00 Mac Geek Gab 1133 for Monday, March 16th, 2026 March 16th: Robert Goddard Day MGG Monthly Giveaway – Enter to win a copy of SoundSource from Rogue Amoeba! One of the best parts of the Geekin' on Walt Disney World Podcast community is that it eventually jumps off the internet and into the parks. In Episode 659, we kick off a two-part trip report from a recent Geek Meet weekend at Walt Disney World where a group of longtime friends and listeners gathered to spend a few days enjoying the parks together. For this trip, Dan, Andy, and I shared a family suite at Disney's All-Star Music Resort, which turned out to be a surprisingly great option for a small group traveling together. The suite setup—with separate sleeping areas and a small kitchen space—worked perfectly for our home base during the weekend. A Weekend Built Around Community The meetup was inspired by longtime Geek Kevin Curtis-Allen and his wife Deborah coming down to Florida. That gave us the perfect excuse to organize a larger Geek Meet, with around 25–30 members of the community joining throughout the weekend depending on their travel schedules. From the very beginning, the trip was less about rides and more about spending time together—meeting up in the parks, sharing meals, and bouncing from place to place the way Disney trips often unfold when you're …

Guests: Doug Hilderbrand & Jennifer Sprague-HilderbrandWhen you think about the weather world, you might picture satellites spinning overhead, supercomputers crunching data, or meteorologists trying to explain that yes, the cone is not the size of the storm. But behind all of that is a whole community of people working together to keep us informed and safe. Today, we're joined by two people who know that ecosystem better than almost anyone: Doug and Jennifer Hilderbrand, co-founders of the American Weather Enterprise Association. Together, they're building a space where the public, private, and academic sectors can actually talk to each other — and maybe even agree on a few things — to strengthen the entire weather community. We'll dive into why they launched the association, what they hope to change, and how collaboration can help us all navigate a future with more complex storms, more data, and more demand than ever.Chapters00:00 Introduction to the Weather Community03:04 Personal Journeys into Meteorology06:03 The American Weather Enterprise Association Explained07:56 The Importance of Economic Valuation in Weather13:16 Break 113:45 Building a Strong Foundation for the Future20:00 Advocacy and Engagement with Policymakers25:50 The Personal Dynamics of Building an Organization26:30 Break 232:02 Conclusion and Future DirectionsSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
