No one does the nexus point of French House and EBM quite like him. 9 DJ Plant Texture - Life - Tresor RecordsThe first of two Tresor releases in my top 10, not sure what has been happening over there lately, but I'm here for it. A great weirdo techno 12 inch where opening track Repetitivo (Stretch Mix) sounding like Jeff Mills having eaten too many haribo, before mutating into scattered hats across the dancefloor, perhaps to trip up Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern who have broken into your house for some reason. 8 Autechre - Untilted - Warp Records Now to the first of two reissues in my list, and despite my somewhat negative thoughts as to their quote unquote live show I saw this year, I still love the music and this one in particular stuck out. Approachable but still properly mad. Proof that extreme computer music can be fun. 7 Clark - Steep Stims - Throttle Records I remember when Chris Clark came out with his first record and thinking that it too warp for warp records. I'm pretty sure we never met when I was in Berlin, unless I got him confused with Kid 606, in which case I apologize to you both. Anyway, Steep Stims is great, playful, emotional, one foot in the past and another in the future, really great work that I think will age really well. Solid work Mr Clark. 6 Emptyset - Dissever - Thrill Jockey Records Amazing new record from Emptyset, feels like they took all the lessons from all the later records and applied it to the earlier ones. Beautiful intense grinding drones, like someone built an installation of Sheer Hellish Miasma and I'm somehow in the room with it. 5 Merzbow, Iggor Cavalera, Eraldo Bernocchi - Nocturnal Rainforest - PAN Full disclosure, Iggor sent this to me, but it's been on my repeated listens ever since. Zen-like terror but incredibly dynamic. One of the best noise releases of the year and I'd go as far as to say a career highlight for each of the members. 4 Various Artists - 30 Years Sonic Groove - Sonic Groove Has it really been 30 years of Sonic Groove? Adam X compiles a collection of outstanding producers for this excellent collection of tracks. Highlights include the mutant acid of Bryan Zentz, the incomparable genius of Mike Parker and the industrial brutality of Statiqbloom. 3 Dopplereffekt - Metasymmetry - Tresor The second Tresor release on my list is the mighty Dopplereffekt. Beautiful, futuristic and unmistakably Detroit. Top 3 don't disagree! 2 Maria Somerville - Luster - 4AD Genuinely shocking to hear an artist on 4AD in 2025 that sounds like what an artist on 4AD sounds like in my head and it's great. Melancholic Ambient shoegaze for a new generation. 1 Coil - Black Antlers - Dais Records Black Antlers is not my favorite Coil album, but it is the one I least expected to be reissued as it was originally a tour only CDR that then got expanded. You could argue that it might not count as a proper Coil album, but who has time for these discussions. Some of the best music ever created. Nick (Disfigure; the one on the right in the pic) Favorites: Kommodus - A Foetal Wolf in Stained Glass - Probably my favorite release from Kommodus. Really awesome auxiliary instruments incorporated here and I like the unhinged melodic leads thrown in on a lot of the songs. It has a punkier tinge to it with the guitar tones and the vocals are equally as heavy Fellwinter - Dark Mediaeval Art - Pure riff-centric Judas Iscariot worship Magus Lord - In The Company of Champions - Epic in every way. I liked this better than the Lamp record this year but M has been writing fantastic black metal for a while and this side project is really refreshing to follow Ultimate Disaster - For Progress . . . - Perfectly written D-Beat in my opinion. Very tight songwriting and the riffs and solos are so well executed Valen - Viarum - I'm a huge Thangorodrim fan and this project has reminded me most of that. This was my go-to Dungeon Synth for some epic game nights this year Enceladus - Demo II - Another great release from this project. I love the half time parts, the more death metal sounding vocals, and just the ferocity of the songs while still being melodic Iron Firmament - Arcane Overspill - Amazing black metal from Washington, a state known for churning out amazing black metal for over two decades. I really love the production on this release, especially the interludes. This band writes amazing riffs and this has been a standout for me in their already exceptional discography Sharp Pins - Balloon Balloon Balloon - I love Power pop, I love Guided By Voices and Sharp Pins delivers on all fronts Occult Blood/Carrion Bloom - Battle Cries of Endless Night - Both sides of this split are fantastic. Put out by Wergild who can't miss lately with their bands/releases Utility - S/T - The hometown heroes! The whole release but especially the first song reminds me so much of Fired Up, one of my favorite CT hardcore bands of all time. Great songwriting and also absolutely on point with the energy and vocals. The demo before this is fantastic as well     The Redscroll Podcast is a monthly show (first of the month going forward) that works as a companion to what we do at Redscroll Records in Wallingford, CT USA. In this short podcast episode, Bryan explores the history of the finned-tube coil, which is what we use for heat exchange in air-source air conditioners and heat pumps. Air-source HVAC systems have copper tubes threaded through thin metal fins. This design was optimized to ensure the greatest possible surface area for heat exchange to occur. However, prior to the finned-tube coil, HVAC coils looked more like plumbing projects with bare copper loops, which were heavy, costly, and inefficient.  In the early 1900s, HVAC was essentially plumbing with higher expectations; capacity was dictated purely by size and charge. In the 1910s and 1920s, early air conditioning pioneers were already attempting to increase surface area with metal discs or pipes, which evolved to continuous sheet fins. The tube would move refrigerant, and the fins would collect heat from the air and pass it into the tube; the finned-tube coil was born. The added weight was minimal, but the contact area was increased by almost 3000%, meaning coils and charges could be smaller with added efficiency. This move was necessary because while we already knew that heat can indeed move without touching molecules (radiant transfer), radiant cooling had a unique challenge: dew point. Finned-tube coils rely on convection and only have temperatures below the dew point in a small area, which allows us to have a small drain pan. Aluminum was also plentiful after WWII, enabling finned-tube technology to evolve to louvered fins and reach the masses. By the 1960s, finned-tube coils were in all sorts of applications. However, it became clear that aluminum was fragile, and we have since innovated to overcome that challenge. There are three barriers that heat transfer must overcome: air-side film resistance (air is a poor conductor), wall conduction through the tube and fins, and refrigerant-side film resistance (oil inside or laminar flow). When they take the club back, if that lead knee (the left knee for righties) collapses and touches the right knee, what happens? You've lost your base. You've got no tension. You've got no torque. You're just... soft.Onthe flip side, if you keep those knees frozen like two pillars of cement, you can't turn at all!The Golden Visual: The "Window of Light"Here is the visual I want you to "Imagen" today.When you make a proper backswing—a true rotation around your spine—your lead knee moves inward and points toward the golf ball, while your trail leg straightens just a tiny bit (but stays flexed).If you do this correctly, looking from face-on, there should be a distinct gap of light between your knees.Why does this matter? Why is that "light" so powerful?1. It Proves You Are Rotating, Not SwayingIf you sway to the right (sliding your hips), your knees often stay the same distance apart, but the whole structure shifts. You haven't created power; you've just moved your zip code.But when you rotate, that lead knee works away from the target. It creates a dynamic angle. That "light" between the knees tells me that your hips have turned deep, but your feet are still grounded.2. It Prevents the "Knee Kiss"I see this a lot with senior golfers or people trying to get a "long" swing. They let that left knee collapse all the way until it touches the right knee. If your knees are kissing, you are in big trouble. You have zero resistance. You can't fire from there. You have to re-plant the heel, shift the weight, and then turn. It takes too much time.Keeping that daylight between the knees means you have maintained width in your lower body.3. It Creates "Torque"Think of a rubber band. To shoot it far, you have to pull one end back while holding the other end stable. That space between your knees? That's the tension in the rubber band.If the space disappears (knees touch), the rubber band goes slack. If the space doesn't change (no turn), you never stretched the rubber band.The "Flashlight" DrillSo, how do we feel this? I want you to try this next time you are on the range or even in your living room.Step 1: Take your setup.Step 2: Imagine there is a flashlight strapped to the inside of your right knee, shining at your left knee.Step 3: As you swing to the top, don't let your left knee block that light. And don't let your left knee run away from the light.Step 4: Feel the left knee move towards the ball, while the right hip goes back.You should feel a stretch in your right glute (your butt cheek). If you look in a mirror, you should see daylight—a nice, athletic gap between the legs.Key Takeaway: The lead knee moves, but it respects the space of the trail knee. They are neighbors, but they don't live in the same house!When you maintain that gap, you are loaded. You are ready to transition. From there, all you have to do is plant that left heel and let the hips unwind. But if you've collapsed that gap, you're stuck.Final ThoughtsGolf is a visual game. Here are three drills to help you feel it."Drill 1: The "Bucket Barrier" (Tactile Feedback)Best for: Golfers who habitually collapse the lead leg.This is the ultimate 'anti-collapse' drill. We are going to put a physical obstacle in the way so your lead knee literally has nowhere to go but the correct direction.The Setup:Take your normal stance with a mid-iron (7 or 8 iron).Place a standard range bucket (standing upright) directly between your legs, positioned right between your knees.Squeeze the bucket slightly with your knees at address to feel engagement.The Action:Take a slow backswing.The Goal: Rotate your hips and shoulders to the top without your lead knee knocking the bucket over.Your lead knee should move forward (towards the toes) and slightly inward, but the bucket prevents it from collapsing all the way to the trail knee.Why It Works: If you knock the bucket over, you know you've lost the "light" and the tension. Keeping the bucket standing forces you to turn your hips around your spine rather than sliding them.Drill 2: The "Wall Slide" (Rotation vs. Sway)Best for: Golfers who sway off the ball instead of turning.Often, the knees stay too close together because the golfer is sliding sideways. This drill ensures you are rotating deep into the right hip, which naturally creates that athletic gap between the knees.The Setup:Stand with your back to a wall (no club needed).Your heels should be about 4–6 inches away from the wall.Get into your golf posture.The Action:Cross your arms over your chest.Make a backswing turn.The Goal: Feel your right butt cheek (trail glute) slide back and touch the wall.At the same time, keep your left butt cheek off the wall.Why It Works: When the right hip goes back (touching the wall), it pulls the right knee slightly straighter (but not locked). This movement naturally creates space between the knees. If you slide sideways, your hip won't touch the wall, and your knees will look weak.Drill 3: The "Freeze & Check" (Visual Confirmation)Best for: connecting the 'feel' to the 'real'.This builds the mental image we talked about in the podcast.The Setup:Set up in front of a mirror (face-on view) or set up your phone to record face-on.If you don't have a mirror, use a window reflection.The Action:Swing to the top and FREEZE. Hold it for 3 seconds.Look at your knees.Check 1: Is there daylight between them?Check 2: Is the lead knee pointing generally toward the ball (or slightly behind it), rather than at your right foot?Check 3: Do you feel pressure on the inside of your right heel?If you see the light and feel the pressure, hit the ball from that frozen position (at 50% speed).Why It Works: This programs your brain to recognize the correct position. By hitting the ball after freezing, you are teaching your body how to unleash the power stored in that "gap."

Technical difficulties are a part of everyday life. As much as we try to avoid them, they always seem to happen from time to time.  That's precisely what happened after a recent recording of the podcast with Speedboat photographer Tom Leigh and videographer Carter Bahde.
