Mobile Audio Technology & Podcasting On the Go: A Conversation with Fernando Eid Pires - Part 2“Eyesight's probably the first sense most prioritized by the brain but right behind it is hearing and it can influence your state of mind, your emotions. You know, if you put the right music to work, you work better. If you put the right music to work out, you work out better, you know. If you want to have a romantic date, there's a very different kind of music you'll want to play there. Well, needless to say, it's amazing, and if you're cognizant of what you're choosing to hear it, will have an effect on you." -- Fernando Eid Pires This episode's the second half of my interview with entrepreneur, audio engineer, and Audiosigma founder, Fernando Eid Pires as we discuss his inspirational book Jumpstart, the ins and outs of developing the PodMobile, and his perspective as a newcomer to the voice industry. As always, if you have questions for my guest, you're welcome to reach out through the links in the show notes. If you have questions for me, visit www.audiobrandingpodcast.com where you'll find a lot of ways to get in touch. Plus, subscribing to the newsletter will let you know when the new podcasts are available. And if you're getting some value from listening, feel free to spread that around and share it with a friend, along with leaving an honest review. Both those things really help – and I'd love to feature your review on future podcasts. You can leave one either in written or in voice format from the podcast's main page. I would so appreciate that. The Extra MileThe second half of our conversation starts with a closer look at the creative and engineering process behind PodMobile and how Fernando's using feedback from his contacts within the voice and audio industry to continue developing and expanding the mobile tool into an audio Swiss army knife for every occasion. “The idea of the PodMobile,” he explains, “is that it solves your problems. So if you have to go the extra mile... then I think my equipment is not doing the job that it could do.” Getting Your Life TogetherHe also tells us about his book Jumpstart and the lessons that it drew from his early life and struggles to help others follow their own path to success. "It's about getting your life together," he says. "It's very much self-help." Fernando acknowledges that this can be easier said than done and that he had to overcome his own struggle with shyness to be able to offer advice to others. "It's very difficult for somebody to just take days to just lay out that plan," he tells us. "It's not easy. It's easy to tell someone to do it, but it's not easy to overcome the resistance to do it yourself." The Right MusicOur discussion concludes with the role sound plays in our well-being, and how the power of music, from jazz playlists to classic rock to lofi hip hop, helped him persevere through some of his most difficult struggles. “If you put the right music to work,” Fernando observes, “you work better. If you put the right music to work out, you work out better. You know, if you want to have a romantic date, there's a very different kind of music you'll want to play there. Well, needless to say, it's amazing and if you're cognizant of what you're choosing to hear, it will have an effect on you.” Episode SummaryThe process of expanding PodMobile's versatility and audio compatibilityHow Jumpstart aims to help guide other entrepreneurs in their journeyThe beloved grandfather whose life has been an inspiration to...

Mobile Audio Technology & Podcasting On the Go - Putting Audio to Work“I get a bigger satisfaction working with things that has a constraint in terms of budget, you know, cannot be overly expensive. You have to deliver a ton of value for the money. I think this is so cool to work with that and like kind of, you know, work a miracle out of the parts that you have. Then, you know, go super fancy and, oh, this is the best thing ever. And you should pay, you know, ten grand for this. And then you can basically use anything. I think this is sort of like the movies that when, you know, the budget is short, sometimes the movie is a lot better and then the sequel, when you have a lot more budget, much more money to make the movie, maybe it's not as good.” -- Fernando Eid Pires This episode's guest is a relentless entrepreneur and a highly skilled electrical engineer with five patents and an inspiring history to share. His name is Fernando Pires and I first came across him and his expertise when a fellow VO reviewed a wonderful audio interface he'd come up with. It's currently called the PodMobile, but he may change that name in the future. It's a useful new tool to help voice actors and podcasters alike, get the best sound for their recordings: I've tried it myself and can tell you it is an excellent piece of equipment. We talk more about where his love of sound started, his electrical engineering, his current interest in sound, and where he thinks it'll end up. So stay tuned! As always, if you have questions for my guest, you're welcome to reach out through the links in the show notes. Both those things really help – and I'd love to feature your review on future podcasts. You can leave one either in written or in voice format from the podcast's main page. I would so appreciate that. Between Toys and SoundThe interview starts with Fernando's memories of listening to music in the car as a child, and we talk about how audio became a passion for him early on. “I was between toys and sound equipment,” Fernando explains. “But when I was twelve years old, it became pretty much all about audio.” He tells us about growing up in São Paulo and how its music scene helped cultivate his love of music. “If you want to listen to jazz on a Tuesday night,” he says, “you got it. If you want to listen to blues, you got it. Bossa nova, you got it. Samba, you got it. Anything. So rock and roll? Plenty.” An Expensive LessonFernando talks about his first patent, a beautifully designed and ingenious custom audio mixer that turned out to be hopelessly impractical. “It was a wooden cabinet painted silver,” he says, “like automotive paint. It was like the iPod of professional audio. It worked great. It was a pleasure to use, but to build it? Oh my goodness.” We talk about the hours of work he poured into each one of the hundred devices he eventually sold, and the lessons he learned from that project. “Honestly, that patent resulted in nothing,” he admits. “It was just extremely expensive. It wasn't a good idea.” Entrepreneurs from BirthThe conversation turns to his success with the PodMobile and the entrepreneurial spirit that carried him through those early setbacks, a spirit he thinks many people possess without realizing it. “I believe that most...

Welcome to Jon's author diary for the week ending October 6, 2019. It’s been a mixed bag of a week. It started well enough. I wrote a short story called The Princess and the Tailor for a charity anthology inspired by Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. I took the theme of a person transforming into a monster and ran with it. It tells the story of the way Kat’s parents met in The Ravenglass Chronicles. And if you’ve read the series, you’ll know that things didn’t exactly go well. I want to thank everyone who helped make The Ravenglass Chronicles episodes 1-11 boxed set an Amazon best-seller. It was only there for a couple of days, but I did get a pretty orange tag on my book! I went back to work on The Hanged Man, which is book 12 of The Ravenglass Chronicles, and I’m about three-quarters through now. I had hoped to have my draft finished by Friday, but life has a tendency to throw obstacles in the way…   Digit On Thursday, my guide dog Digit was attacked by a Staffordshire bull terrier while I we were walking my son home from school. It was quite traumatic, but I managed to get the other dog off Digit before he could do any serious damage. Poor guy has three wounds on his front left leg. The vet has stapled and bandaged him and he’s walking around with a cone around his head. The wounds went down to the muscle, but didn’t damage the muscle, so he should be healed in a couple of weeks. What made it particularly frustrating was that the dog’s owner was completely unapologetic and ran off when I tried to speak to him. Luckily, one of the other parents managed to get a photo of him, so hopefully the police will be able to catch up with him. I had to deal with the fallout from that for the rest of Thursday and all day Friday. So this has meant going to the vets (twice), talking to the police, Guide Dogs, and the local dog warden to give statements, etc. And, now, I am out of a guide dog for two weeks meaning I have to go back to using my white cane…which sucks.   Podcasting On the Sci-Fi Roundtable this week, Shane Thomas and I were joined by author Andy Zach to discuss the neuralink, which enables you to link your brain to a computer. We’re coming to the end of the Wizard of the Wasteland re-write, so, next, I’ll be posting the pre-edited chapters of the new version of The Fool, which is set about six months before The Ravenglass Chronicles and tells the story of how Kat and Hansel became friends. News Academy of Podcasters Awards announced for Podcast Movement on July 31st. Including a Hall of Fame. Should be interesting watching. ---- Google Kills Another Service Google Helpouts are dead. I, along with a LOT of other “podcast gurus”, have predicted that feedburner is next. I'm not saying that if you use feedburner you should get off now….. Ok I am, but if you don't plan on moving, at least have a plan in place for WHEN (not if) Google kills it. Just sayin! ---------------- Facebook Pages Facebook has added a new subcategory for pages called “podcast”. To find it, create your page and don't worry about what category you put it in because it won't matter right now. Once you get it setup, go into your page and where it says “category” select edit. Then select “other” as the main category and podcast as the subcategory. That's it. ------------------- Podcasting On the Cheap There is a podcaster I know (who shall remain nameless) who podcasts for “free”. Yes, of course he had to buy a microphone and a computer. I'm guessing he also pays for a connection to the internet (Although you could get that free if you want to travel to it). It is doable. His setup is kind of cool, but he is worried about part of his system. That part…. FEEDBURNER (we don't talk about that enough :) ) He uses blogger for his webpage and runs 3 podcasts off of it. The problem is that Blogger (also owned by the RSS Hating Google) doesn't have a podcast compliant feed. He stores his files on Archive.org and puts them in the feed at blogger and uses feedburner to add the tags needed to podcast correctly. Feedburner still does that correctly (for now). So, he is (mostly) podcasting for free. It is possible. Another new friend of mine, Stan, Podcasts cheaply using Buzzsprout. He's on the $12 per month plan. But thats all he has to pay. He can upload 3 hours of podcasts per month for that (they charge by the hour, not filesize) He uses the buzzsprout page as his website and to generate his feed. Yes, there are problems with that setup, as with the friend on blogger, but it works. His podcast is #1 in his niche! All this from buzzsprout which is a service that most will poo poo (including me). BUT, It can be done. (Check out stan's podcast about the App CyberDust here: http://cyberdust.buzzsprout.com/ ) There are “other” reasons why you don't want to use buzzsprout but I won't get into that here. I guess what I'm getting at is, a lot of us “Gurus” get wrapped up in how to set things up using the “best” way we know for growth and future proofing your brand and your system. The point is, that isn't necessary in all cases. What I teach here is for the Advanced Amateur podcaster or for the beginning professional podcaster. If you use my methods, your podcast can grow to unbelievable size and you won't have to change any of the technology. That being said, what I teach here is certainly NOT the only way. I'm learning that it might be good to help people at all levels of expertise and budget levels. (I still think feedburner is a bad idea) When you really get down to it, Content Rules! ------------------- Blubrry Tip of the Week - Getting support When requesting help with something. PLEASE include the login email for your account at Blubrry.com. We do not need your password. Include your Feed address, your website address and your iTunes listing address if that is what you are asking about. It would save several emails back and forth on the email system or it would save time in the forum to answer your question. Blubrry, unlike other platforms, leaves a lot of the setup to you, so YOU own it. We don't control your feed so we can't fix it. BUT if you give us the feed address, we can help YOU troubleshoot it. IF you are a paying customer of Blubrry, we will provide email support. Otherwise, if you are using the free products,
