James Brown was known by a lot of titles: The Godfather of Soul and The Hardest Working Man in Show Business among them, but as Alicia shares, his personal life was more than a little bit of a catastrophe. From trouble with the law, to trouble with the IRS, to extremely abusive relationships with women, this musical legend's legacy is mixed at best. And was he murdered? If you've ever watched the Amazon Prime series The Tick, or Seven Seconds on Netflix, or High Maintenance on HBO, or After on the IFT Network, then you will recognize Joshua Schubart. A big man with an even bigger heart, Josh sits down with Brad to open up about being homeless, growing up in foster care, and how acting and his foster parents, saved his life. "Acting helped me to escape my situation at the time..." Josh shares his emotional journey of landing the part of Frank on The Tick, the highs and lows of the acting world, working with Michael Cerveris, and the dream he never thought he'd achieve; being a good father. Having graced the pages of GQ magazine as a "Brawny Model," and putting together his short series "The Transformation of Ben Grimm," It appears that Joshua will reach his ultimate goal—being cast in the MCU and working with Taika Waititi. This is a fun episode for comic book nerds and film buffs alike as The Hardest Working Man in Show Business shares his life. About Joshua Schubart: Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Joshua Schubart has been working as a professional actor for over a decade. Joshua had a tough childhood, growing up homeless and in the foster care system. At 14, his foster parents put him in Catholic school, and his life took a turn for the better. He discovered acting in his early teens, as an escape from his day-to-day challenges. He would often say that acting literally saved his life, giving him the drive and motivation to make his dreams come true. Joshua attended the Asolo Conservatory for actor training and got a BA in Acting from Stony Brook University. Upon graduation, he fully immersed himself in the craft, building a reputation as a hardworking and talented actor. Joshua has been seen in projects ranging from small indie films to walking the boards at the Metropolitan Opera. Some of his recent work includes a recurring role in the Amazon series The Tick, and appearances in Seven Seconds (Netflix) and High Maintenance (HBO). His voice can also be heard on a long list of audiobooks available on Amazon Audible, including Blue Summer, Lorelei and Blaze of Ecstasy. In addition to acting, Joshua is a highly skilled stunt man/stage combatant, with training in hand-to-hand, almost every bladed weapon and most guns. Passionate as well about stepping behind the camera, Joshua is the co-founder of the production company 2 Ladies & A Giant. Together with his production company, Joshua created .After, a series about a widower navigating life and the dating scene after losing his wife. The series, starring Joshua, is a story of life, love, and rebirth, and streams on IFT Network. Growing up reading comic books, Joshua hopes to work with Marvel in the near future. And working with Taika Waititi is a dream of his. Also a plus size model, Joshua hopes his work in front and behind the camera will open doors for larger people in the industry, break the stereotypes, and prove that they are more than just the funny or bad guys. In his free time Joshua likes to build computers, read, play different sports, and spend time with his wife and daughter. To learn more about Joshua, follow him on TikTok, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram at @Josh_Schubart. www.joshuaschubart.com About Awakened Nation: Fueled by the passion to ignite game-changing conversations, award-winning author Brad Szollose created Awakened Nation—a podcast dedicated to deeper conversations with today's outliers and cutting edge entrepreneurs, idea makers and disruptors, bestselling authors, activists, healers, spiritual leaders, professional athletes, celebrities, politicians and rock stars...conversations that take a deep dive into the extraordinary. Fingers crossed that this episode description doesn't get deleted this time! Part II of this fireside chat gets to the meat and bones of BTS, and when you take a listen, you'll see why that phrase works so well. You may even salivate during our discussion. Meat and bones and also tenderizing as a way to negotiate.....I hope you marinate on these concepts. Even right now as I type this, I'm getting hungry! In my brief intro, I talk about finally getting my plane ticket for 2023 National, which is the largest card show in the United States (trying to remember my international listeners!). I am very much a window seat person on airplanes, and so I put a poll up - are you a window or aisle seat person, or for some reason are you a middle seat person? (If you are, please consider unsubscribing right now!) In Part II, the self proclaimed "The Hardest Working Man in the Hobby" Dan and I get into the actual reason I asked him on the pod, which is BTS. Dan talks about how he first started buying on eBay, setting up as a dealer in local and regional card shows all around the United States and why he thinks the Dallas Card Show is the best regional card show. Dan also talks about the implicit or hidden costs of setting up as a traveling dealer, tenderizing during a negotiation, understanding cost basis and other people's positions while negotiating, why a 1/1 of sometimes not really as rare as we may think it is, the mindset and inventory for a successful dealer, pop counts, and whether there should be a Hobby ChatGPT. We end with a question from ChatGPT (multi part answer from The Great Curator), and I want to personally let our future computer overlords know that I will not fight the inevitable outcome. Finally, Dan talks about how he is able to live in the great state of California without having a car. Please buy his cards and like his content so that he can buy a car. Presented, written, directed, edited, and narrated by Denny Cards Executive produced by Dan Nguyen
Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Deanna Brown-Thomas, whose father was none other than Mr. Dynamite aka, The Godfather of Soul aka “The Hardest Working Man in Show Business”. We are of course talking about the legendary James Brown. When Deanna agreed to be a guest on the podcast we had no idea just how honest and forthcoming she would be talking about her father. In fact, she used the word ‘transparency' and that's exactly what our interview was like. Outspoken, honest, joyful and genuine, Deanna spoke to us about everything from what it was like meeting (or perhaps being set up with) Eddie Murphy backstage as an adult to meeting Soul Train host Don Cornelius on camera as a four year old. As we discussed on this episode, there were very few entertainers who were as well-known across the world other than James Brown and we dig into it. We also learned of James Brown 75/25 rule about show business which frankly was a life lesson we should all learn from. For a man who was known for his explosive live act, it was the school of hard knocks that made him learn that without the business, there was no show. When you work as hard as James Brown did onstage, you better believe, it was taken care of offstage. We also spoke about Deanna's career in radio, in running the James Brown Family Foundation and the James Brown Academy of Music Pupils in Augusta, Ga which provides musical education for local school children as well as a James Brown tour – the only one you can see in the world. We also learned about the James Brown estate which Deanna was very, yes transparent about.. We also discussed James Brown's role in the civil rights movement, his love of Jazz, his ownership of radio stations, what it was like behind the scenes and one subject we like to talk about - life on the road. It's sometimes not all it's cracked up to be. In fact, you might find yourself ordering room service instead of attending an afterparty on the road with her dad. You'll have to listen for yourself. Deanna was a fantastic guest, a warm and frank person who wasn't afraid to ‘go there'. So take a listen, to this episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast and you'll see what we are talking about.

Welcome to October 5, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate getting funky and paying things forward. As a child growing up in Georgia, James Brown was so poor that his clothes were little more than rags, for which he was sometimes sent home from school. So when he became a professional musician, he dressed in extravagant outfits, becoming known for his capes, rhinestone covered jumpsuits and copious amounts of jewelry. Brown's talent earned him the name “The Hardest Working Man in Show Business.” He was a major player in the history of Funk music, setting the standard for musicians like Earth, Wind, and Fire, Parliament Funkadelic, and even Prince. On National Get Funky Day you don't need to be the Godfather of Soul to get your groove on. You may not be aware of how your choices add up, but doing something nice can have a far reaching ripple effect. For inspiration, consider the story of a young man from South Carolina with big dreams and humble beginnings. Though he never aspired to be a superhero, young Chadwick Boseman had a talent for acting. When that talent led him to a chance at attending Oxford University, the only obstacle was the immense tuition. Enter Denzel Washington. Though the two had never met, the benefactor paid for Chad's tuition and his acting career began. That career ended much too soon, but left a legacy of outstanding performances. On National Do Something Nice Day celebrate the ripple effect that even a small act of kindness can create. 'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day. Introducing the The Hardest Working Man on LinkedIn! In this episode, we learn how to make sales like an actual human being instead of some caricature of a salesperson who only thinks about the numbers. Dale Dupree is on the show and he is leading his own Sales Rebellion to change the way people think about sales and how salespeople operate. He is a creative genius when it comes to finding new and unique ways to break the norm and get the attention of his prospects. He uses his superpowers for good, of course, by making sure that everyone he interacts with understands that what he wants more than anything is to truly connect and get to know who they are and how he might be able to help. We dive into so many great stories of hilarious ways he's gotten the attention of people he's tried to sell to and what this world of sales really means to him personally.

Voice Over Actor, Singer and Author Rodney Saulsberry narrates this bio feature on James Brown. An American singer, songwriter, arranger, and dancer, who was one of the most important and influential entertainers in 20th-century popular music and whose remarkable achievements earned him the title, “The Hardest-Working Man in Show Business.”
Despite him being officially The Hardest Working Man in Podcasting, the Goon Pod production team begged, bribed and eventually blackmailed the magnificent Mike Fenton Stevens and he agreed to appear on the show! Mike looks back at some interesting highlights from a career on TV, radio and the stage spanning more than forty years and he explains how the Goons informed his early development in terms of performing comedy business in front of a crowd. We discuss the episode The Tale of Men's Shirts which was the A-side of the 1960 Parlophone LP The Best Of The Goon Shows No.2 - one of many comedy records in the house as Mike grew up. There's plenty to talk about and as is customary the conversation veers off in all directions… it will be of interest even to those who have never heard The Goon Show but love British comedy in general. And yes, we do tackle the topic of exactly who it was who first came up with the “Ringo's not even the best drummer in the Beatles” canard! We discuss how Joey is the hardest working man in rock & metal, and sum up Welcome Home for everyone. The album has been pushed back due to shipping delays from the global supply chain issue, and other things according to Joey. But the episode was too good to hold on to. The Godfather Of Soul Blazed A Funky Trail! Welcome to October 5, 2021 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate getting funky and paying things forward. As a child growing up in Georgia, James Brown was so poor that his clothes were little more than rags. Sometimes he was sent home from school for being too dirty. So when he became a professional musician, this shaped his image. He dressed in extravagant outfits—becoming known for wearing capes, jumpsuits covered in rhinestones, and copious amounts of jewelry. This caught everyone's attention, but it was his talent that earned him the name “The Hardest Working Man in Show Business.” Brown was a major player in the history of Funk music, setting the standard for musicians like Earth, Wind, and Fire, Parliament Funkadelic, and even Prince. It's National Get Funky Day and while you don't need to be the Godfather of Soul, you can play some music and get your groove on. Aaron Collins was only 30 years old when he came up with his last wish. In life, he loved to give waiters and waitresses a big tip, and when he passed away just a few weeks after his 30th birthday, his brother Seth carried out Aaron's last request. Sarah Ward was serving pizza to the Collins family at Puccini's Restaurant in Lexington, KY when Seth handed her a $500 tip wrapped with Aaron's name. Sarah immediately offered to share it with the entire staff. Even better, she pledged to tell Aaron's story for the rest of her life. Since then more than $30,000 has been donated to continue the cause, now known as "Aaron's Last Wish.” Wait staff in all 50 states have received $500 tips. On National Do Something Nice Day celebrate the ripple effect with your own act of kindness. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.

Meet Sean “SDot” Mascoll, this weeks featured Go Getta on The G Code Podcast. No matter what field of entertainment you work in, the one thing that everyone knows is that the lifespan for most people in this line of work is very short, but what makes the difference is one's drive to stay in it and make it all happen. Sean Mascoll a.k.a. Sdot, all around go-to guy is no stranger to hard work. Who knew that when Sdot started working on the street team for one of New York's premier hip-hop radio stations, Hot 97 (WQHT) in 2000, that it would have led him to be one of the most integral people in making SiriusXM Satellite Radio (formally Sirius Satellite Radio), function as Manager of Music Programming Operations. Sdot's passion to leave his mark in the industry led him to a position in the production department for Hot 97's sister station Kiss FM (now ESPN Radio), while still working for Hot 97's street team in 2001. Realizing that in order for him to really make it all work, Sdot left the street team to focus on commercial production in 2002 for Emmis Communication's top three New York stations: Hot 97, 98.7 Kiss, and CD 101.9. At this point, Sdot was labeled “The Hardest Working Man in Radio” due to his motivation to really learn it all. In 2003, he was recruited to work on the “Star and Buck Wild” morning show (Hot 97) as one of the morning producers and continued on morning show production for over two years, working with Sway (MTV/SiriusXM), Joe Budden (popular rap artist/reality star), and Miss Jones (air personality). “Working morning radio was definitely an experience. I was able to work with a great staff and was able to build as a person and professional,” states Sdot. The word about his work ethic spread and in 2005, Sdot returned to commercial production where he was then approached by Reggie Hawkins who he previously worked with at Hot 97, to work for Sirius Shade 45 as a board-op for all mix shows. Still pulling hours for both commercial and satellite radio, Sdot realized the possibilities at Sirius and left commercial radio in late 2005. He came on board with Sirius Satellite Radio producing live mix shows and as a Music Coordinator working on different stations. Since then, after overcoming a few ups and downs within the radio industry and working in both talk and music radio, Sdot is currently Program Director of SiriusXM FLY (uncensored Hip Hop and RnB from the 90s and 2000s) and Manager Music Programming Operations. Some of his duties include, but not limited to the hiring of interns, part & full-time employees, creating work schedules for staff, approving timesheets, providing additional personnel support for employees, and maintaining the day-to-day operations of SiriusXM FLY. “Working at SiriusXM Satellite Radio really has been thus far the monumental point in my radio career. I think it’s such a learning experience that early in my career, I have the opportunity to be exposed to such an array of music genres and be in a position of leadership” says the mild manner Mr. Mascoll, “It’s great that one moment I’m in the studio with Boyz II Men, half hour later I’m in programming meetings”. Making sure that listeners get their daily music fix is this magic man's forte. “A lot of people are closed minded when it comes to different kinds of music…not me! I have no problem contributing to our hip hop stations and then turning right around, and doing a live broadcast on one of our rock channels. Go figure, this Brooklyn native was so into rock? With a diverse background, Sdot doesn't see knowing different genres of music as a problem, but as something new to learn while his career stock rises…fast! “When I tell people what I do and the channels I work on, I get mix reactions. They don’t understand how a person that's so into “hip hop” can sit for hours at a time and listen to artists like Frankie Lymon, Beres Hammond, or even a rock band like Matchbox Twenty…I tell them “change, brings freshness!” Sdot has certainly come a long way since his humble beginnings on the street team. God and passion wakes him up every day to make Good Radio. His ability to not take “NO” for an answer, his determination, and focus will take him far. Follow him on instagram (@sdotgoodradio) and take a look into his world!
