Send us a textTired of waiting overnight for ELISA results? Serial entrepreneur Bruno Oesch reveals how his groundbreaking 10-minute immunoassay technology is eliminating the biggest bottleneck in bioprocessing workflows. From contributing to Nobel Prize-winning prion research to founding Prionics (the first commercial BSE test) and now revolutionizing immunoassays with Elionova, Bruno transforms high-end science into practical solutions that work for everyday labs. Here are three takeaways from this podcast episode:ELISA - The Lab Workhorse That Still Matters: Since the 1970s, ELISA assays have been a cornerstone of bioprocessing and diagnostics. As Bruno Oesch puts it, they remain the "workhorses of biochemical labs." Despite requiring over four hours of binding and washing steps, ELISA remains widely used for its affordability and reliability. However, its slow, linear workflow calls for innovation.ElioDX - The Next-Gen Immunoassay: While Elionova didn't invent evanescence, they've made it accessible and practical. Instead of lengthy washes, a laser-generated evanescent field enables real-time detection, delivering results in just 10 minutes by measuring signal changes dynamically. The Future of Real-Time Bioprocessing: This breakthrough eliminates bottlenecks in biotech workflows. By integrating real-time analysis, ElioDX enhances efficiency, decision-making, and continuous bioprocessing, ensuring precise insights exactly when they're needed. As David and Bruno highlight, the future of immunoassays isn't just about innovation - it's about making these advancements practical and transformative across the industry.By bridging science and accessibility, leaders like Bruno Oesch play a crucial role in demystifying bioprocessing, sparking impactful discussions, and driving real change in the scientific community.Listen to the full discussion to explore how this real-time approach can streamline bioprocessing and transform your workflows.Connect with Bruno Oesch:LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/bruno-oeschElionova: www.elionova.comNext step:Book a free consultation to help you get started on any questions you may have about bioprocessing analytics: https://bruehlmann-consulting.com/callDevelop bioprocessing technologies better, faster, at a fraction of the cost with our 1:1 Strategy Call: The quickest and easiest way to excel biotech technology development. This is the Catchup on 3 Things by The Indian Express and I'm Flora Swain.Today is the 7th of April and here are today's headlines.Domestic benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty plummeted over 5 per cent this morning, following a sharp decline in US futures triggered by United States President Donald Trump's sweeping reciprocal tariffs last week. The BSE's 30-share Sensex nosedived 5.19 per cent, dropping 3,914 points to open at 71,449.94. Meanwhile, the broader Nifty slipped 5 per cent, or 1,146.05 points, opening at 21,758.4.How Asian markets opened? As trading resumed Monday, Asian stock markets crashed and the sell-off was widespread with Tokyo's Nikkei 225 dropping nearly 8%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 falling over 6%, and South Korea's Kospi shedding 4.4%. Oil prices also continued their downward slide, with the US benchmark crude dropping 4 per cent. The sharp declines followed a massive meltdown on Wall Street on Friday, as Trump's tariffs and retaliatory measures from China stoked fears of a full-blown trade war and heightened concerns over a potential global economic recession. US companies with significant exposure to China saw some of the steepest losses.Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna on Monday said that he will take a call on listing petitions challenging the changes made to the waqf law. The CJI conveyed this to senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who brought up the matter before a Supreme Court bench presided by him. Sibal said that a petition had been filed by Maulana Arshad Madani, president of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind, a body of Muslim clerics. The CJI pointed out that a system is already in place to request listing of cases by emailing the court and said it should be followed and oral mentioning should be avoided. Sibal said he had sent the email request, following which the CJI said that he will examine it in the afternoon. As Indian stock markets plunged 5 per cent, the Congress Monday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that both United States President Donald Trump and he are experts in causing “self-inflicted wounds” to their respective economies. The bloodbath tracking Asian markets came in the wake of concerns over escalation in trade wars following the reciprocal tariff announcements by the US. In a post on X, Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh wrote: “It is no wonder that Mr. Modi and Mr. Trump describe themselves as good friends. Both are experts in giving their economies self-inflicted wounds.”Ahead of this year's Hajj pilgrimage, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has temporarily suspended the issuance of visas to citizens of 14 countries. The government will refrain from the issuance of Umrah, business, and family visit visas until mid-June 2025, which coincides with the conclusion of Hajj. The ban comes amid efforts to manage overcrowding associated with the Hajj pilgrimage and to prevent individuals from attempting to perform Hajj without proper registration, as stated by Saudi officials. This measure aims to avert a recurrence of last year's Hajj stampede, which resulted from extreme heat and the influx of unregistered pilgrims. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has directed authorities to enhance visa regulations. According to the revised rules, the final day to apply for an Umrah visa this year is April 13, 2025. Furthermore, no new Umrah visas will be issued until after Hajj concludes. That's all for today. This was the CatchUp on 3 Things by The Indian Express.

AABP Executive Director Dr. Fred Gingrich is joined by Dr. Chance Armstrong and Dr. Jennifer Koziol to discuss a paper published in the AABP peer-reviewed journal The Bovine Practitioner. The journal is available open-access and the target audience is practicing veterinarians. Veterinarians performing bull breeding soundness exams are often asked when they can vaccinate bulls, and much of the available research focuses on type and timing of vaccination on females. The objective of this study was to determine if and how multivalent vaccines (modified-live and killed) affect spermatogenesis in bulls, measured by the percentage of normal sperm morphology and progressively motile sperm over a complete spermatogenesis cycle in bulls. Our guests walk through the results of the study which demonstrated no detrimental effect associated with the use of multivalent modified-live or killed viral vaccines on the sperm morphology of mature bulls over a 61-day period. This suggests that vaccination of mature bulls following a routine bull BSE or at the time of turnout could be performed with limited risk. Our guests emphasize the importance of the veterinarian performing a full BSE 30-60 days before the breeding season starts. Armstrong re-iterates the Society for Theriogenology (SFT) standards for the appropriate evaluation of bulls for breeding soundness. Koziol and Armstrong are the authors of the SFT Manual for Bull BSEs and you can find information at this link. We also review how stress, nutrition and lameness also affect bull fertility and the importance of the veterinarian performing this complete evaluation to identify satisfactory breeders for cow herds. Finally, we discuss the new AABP Bull Breeding Soundness Examination Position Statement (find it at this link). This statement was developed by the AABP Reproduction Committee which ultimately states that this procedure is the practice of veterinary medicine and requires the expertise and knowledge of the veterinarian to perform. Our guests reiterate that this position statement is advocacy for the practicing veterinarian by AABP. If you are interested in reproduction, Armstrong and Koziol encourage you to join the committee by going to this link to email the committee chair. The email should include your name, veterinary school, grad year and your interest in the committee. Assessing bull breeding soundness exam parameters following vaccination with modified-live or killed vaccine. (2024). The Bovine Practitioner, 59(1), 1-8. https://doi.org/10.21423/bpj20259038

There've been cases of foot and mouth disease in Germany, Hungary and Romania this spring. How would we fare if it crossed the Channel? We're talking about biosecurity all this week, how to prevent disease, like FMD, from getting into the country and how to stop it spreading if it does. Livestock farmers have to follow strict rules when they move their animals. They also have to record all movements to ensure each individual cow or sheep can be traced in the event of an outbreak of a contagious disease. Cattle passports were introduced in 1998 after the BSE crisis and since 2010 all sheep have to be electronically tagged, a response to the major foot and mouth outbreak in 2001. We visit a south Cumbrian auction to hear about biosecurity measures and to see what farmers make of them. And James Wood, Professor of veterinary epidemiology at Cambridge University, tells us that in order to prevent the spread of disease, biosecurity measures are just part of the story. A group of cross party MPs has told the Government that farmers are way down the pecking order compared to the big supermarkets and food processors, and often feel powerless to challenge questionable behaviour by them. Yesterday in Parliament Alistair Carmichael, Liberal Democrat MP for Orkney and Shetland and also Chair of the Environment Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee, introduced what's called a ten minute rule bill; the ‘Food Supply Chain Fairness Bill' aims to give farmers a more level playing field. Presented by Caz Graham and produced by Beatrice Fenton.

Well, I'm glad I decided to end December with bonus podcast episodes because what do you know - I'm sick as a dog! This video is a little different from my usual black sheep content, but I wanted to share it because comparison is heavy this time of year! The vast majority of the BSE community identify as artists or creatives and that adds on a whole new layer to comparison over the holidays. We compare ourselves to our corporate cousins who make way more money than us. We compare ourselves to the people who chose the cookie-cutter lifestyle, not because we want it but because of how much they're celebrated. We compare ourselves to the super successful artists we see on Instagram and TikTok and wonder when it'll be our turn, mostly because we want everyone to see that we DID know what we were doing after all! This is a little reminder that your unique way of living life is valid. And that even when you make mistakes, they're yours to make! Deep self-trust and high self-worth are created by following your intuition and building your unique life, brick by brick. No one can take that away from you. You are inspiring other creatives and black sheep to live a life that serves them, too. I'm so proud of you! If you find yourself faltering on this path, get yourself a self-worth coaching session stat! Let's remind you how worthy you are, look at your fears from a logical perspective together, and make a plan for your next steps. All this can be done in just one or two sessions, and sliding scale pricing is always available. Tap the links below or email me at roshni@blacksheepexperience to get started. Also, if the Eagles win this game, their path to 14-3 is not just possible, it looks likely, and The BSE crew explains why.
