Scott Biersack aka @youbringfire is a freelance designer specializing in lettering and type design based in Phoenix, AZ. He's worked for clients like Adobe, Bacardi, BuzzFeed, Netflix, Snapchat, Starbucks, and Target. Living by the mantra “No Work, All Play”, Scott brings his fire for creating to every new creative challenge. In episode 5, Vicky and Dave have an honest conversation with Scott about mental health, burnout and the pressure of social media. But also less depressing stuff like collaboration, sustainability or trying new things. They talk about ways for designers to make a difference and affect meaningful change. Scott recently started teaching type design at ASU and is going back to school to become a musician — all while working full-time as a freelance designer. Some might say he is juggling a little bit too much, but you'd be surprised how much you get done when you wake up at 4:30am. _________ FOLLOW SCOTT: Instagram: @youbringfire Twitter: @youbringfire TikTok: @youbringfire Website: youbringfire.com _________ If you liked this episode, please subscribe and leave a review. So you might have a great big idea and you’re confident that it’s the right answer to a problem or an assignment . . . but how many times do those ideas get blocked by a key decision maker? The idea might be a brand name, the next big campaign idea or a stunning logo. But before it ever gets off the ground and out to the public, how do you help the decision maker to understand it? Or in our case, we’re talking about the client. In this episode, our guest, designer Scott Biersack and I share a handful of our coaching tips on how to prepare for clients when it’s time to make a big decision. Scott talks about the experience of pitching concepts to other agencies, plus brands like Target, Netflix and others. Think of it this way: You have a realtor to help navigate a complicated home buying process. You’ve got a lawyer to advise you throughout a lawsuit. A doctor helps you choose your treatment options. Everyone needs a reliable coach when it comes to making a big decision. Listen and hear how to be a great coach and a better decision maker. ––––––––––––––––– About the Guest: Scott Biersack is an independent artist and designer based in Arizona with projects seen all around the globe. He partners with both clients and agencies on projects ranging from logotype design, illustration, custom lettering, branding large-scale graphics and more. “I have obsessions with smoothies, biking and recycling,” says Scott via his website. “In that order.” Discover more about Scott’s superpowers via his website, http://youbringfire.com. Attracting Life-Changing Opportunities with Scott Biersack Today's guest has done work for juggernauts like Target, Netflix, Starbucks, Adobe, and Facebook to name a few—and he’s only 25 (but remember, we’re all on our own paths now, so kill the comparison). I’m talking about my brother, Scott Biersack aka Youbringfire, on social media. He’s a legend-in-the-making with his style, craft, and creativity; but what I admire the most is the attitude and self-awareness that he approaches life with. It’s truly inspiring and makes you think of the bigger picture. In today’s episode, Scott and I talk about: How his 365 lettering passion project jump-started his career How burnout and rock bottom were necessary obstacles that led to positive change The importance of your mental and physical well-being The Law of Attraction and changing the lens in which you see in the world His favorite video games, typefaces, and of course, pizza Overall, we get stupid deep and transparent in today’s conversation about things like pricing and life. Scott doesn’t hold back, and I think you’re really going to appreciate it like I did. Enjoy This Episode? If you enjoyed this episode, let me know what you think. Winston works a full-time gig where his strengths in lettering and typography are used daily, he is active in the San Francisco community (on Saturday, he is competing in TYPE JAM), and he has a life.
