Do you ever feel isolated behind your laptop screen, treating podcasting as a purely virtual endeavor? Many creators build great digital connections but miss out on the transformative power of a physical community. Podcasting from an isolated home studio can lead to creative stagnation and burnout. In this episode of Podcasting Unlocked, we sit down with veteran podcaster Ande Lyons to discuss her 14-year journey through six different shows. We dive into the profound distinction between virtual networking and the visceral energy of in-person community building. Ande shares how moving past the screen can elevate your show's authority, how to tackle implicit bias like ageism in content creation, and why building an intimate relationship with your listeners is the ultimate key to podcast sustainability. This week, episode 284 of Podcasting Unlocked is about the power of in-person connection in podcasting! Ande Lyons is a 4x founder, a former global startup mentor, a serial podcast + livestream host since 2012, and currently the host of Don't Be Caged By Your Age - an interview-style podcast helping folks thrive after 65. Through "Andelicious" conversations with individuals who have defied societal norms, shattered age-related expectations, and forged new and unexpected pathways that left them feeling enlivened, engaged, and visible, Ande helps listeners reimagine and repurpose their lived experiences for a vibrant life at any age.In this episode of Podcasting Unlocked, Ande Lyons is sharing the importance of creating community in podcasting and actionable steps you can take right now to combat ageism and confidently defy unfair societal expectations. Ande and I also chat about the following: The In-Person Community Imperative: Discover why virtual networking groups can never fully replace the energy, empathy, and creative spark of physical meetups like the New England Podcasters Group. The Evolution of a Host: Learn how to successfully navigate a multi-show portfolio over a decade. Ande explains how she pivoted from business-heavy topics like Startup Life to intimate, impact-driven content as her personal goals shifted.Breaking the Ageism Barrier: Explore how to confront implicit biases in media and why representation for older demographics creates an incredibly loyal, untapped audience base.Fostering Real Listener Intimacy: Understand why deep, emotional resonance with your audience is far more valuable than a high download count when it comes to long-term audience growth and podcast retention.Finding Your Collective: Learn how to select a support system—whether it's a regional meetup or a targeted virtual group like the Feminist Podcasters Collective—to fuel your inspiration when production feels heavy.Your podcast might be broadcast to the world digitally, but it is built on human relationships. This week, challenge yourself to step away from the desktop. Look for a local creator meetup in your area, or reach out to a nearby podcaster for a simple coffee chat. You might find that the missing piece in your production strategy isn't a better microphone—it's a real-life connection. Be sure to tune in to all the episodes to receive tons of practical tips on turning your podcast listeners into leads and to hear even more about the points outlined above. Thank you for listening! The Challenges of the Startup Life Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. The startup life brings many challenges. It's not for the faint of heart. It will demand the best of you and will test you often. Here are some key challenges in the startup life: Most founders have co-founders to deal with. Maintaining the relationship is tantamount to having a marriage. This will stretch one's communication and relationship skills. Startups require the founder to be all in Founders are not part-timers. This means giving up other things in return for the startup work. The startup will go through highs and lows. The founder will go through all the emotions associated with the roller coaster ride. Time will pass quickly as startups are long-term endeavors. It's amazing how fast the years will roll by. The startup life is one long series of processes and to-dos. There's nothing romantic about it. Not everyone you meet will have experienced the startup life and will fail to understand your situation. It can often be lonely. For those who persist, it will be one of the most rewarding experiences. Consider these points before engaging in a startup. Thank you for joining us for the Startup Funding Espresso where we help startups and investors connect for funding. Let's go startup something today. _______________________________________________________ For more episodes from Investor Connect, please visit the site at: http://investorconnect.org Check out our other podcasts here: https://investorconnect.org/ For Investors check out: https://tencapital.group/investor-landing/ For Startups check out: https://tencapital.group/company-landing/ For eGuides check out: https://tencapital.group/education/ For upcoming Events, check out https://tencapital.group/events/ For Feedback please contact info@tencapital.group Please follow, share, and leave a review. Video episode!Start Summit 2026, an event organized by students in Switzerland. Featuring an elevator and a challenge every entrepreneur knows well: explain a complex idea in 60 seconds without losing what truly matters. From Start Summit 2026 in St. Gallen, we recorded an Intangiblia Flash episode capturing the energy of a place where investors, founders, and inventors come together to accelerate, expand, and turn real technology into reality. The best founders don't treat intellectual property like paperwork, they treat it like strategy. I walk around the Start Summit, talking about patents, trademarks, open-source licensing, and the real reason IP matters to customers and investors. If you're building a startup and wondering what “defensible” actually means, these short interviews make it concrete in minutes. We talk about a dual approach that many deep tech companies overlook: patent the core hardware innovation while keeping software open source under a permissive license to drive adoption and let customers go deep without fear of IP constraints. Then we jump into consumer and assistive tech, including a cat health-monitoring station that measures intake, temperature, and more, plus a smartwatch built for people with cognitive impairments that uses symbols, schedules, and voice prompts. It's a reminder that product design, trust, and usability can be as important to protect as the underlying tech. An experienced investor and company builder shares why IP is a game-changer in biotech, medtech, semiconductors, and industrial technology, especially when partnerships or acquisitions are the likely path to scale. We also touch on common founder pitfalls, like filing too early, and why a strong IP portfolio is something you reinforce over time, not a snapshot you frame once. If you want more founder field notes like this, subscribe, share the episode with a builder friend, and leave a review with the smartest IP lesson you've learned so far. Oliver Dauert is the founder of Wildya, a consultancy helping nature NGOs and nature businesses grow their impact by getting better at marketing, sales, and personal branding. A Berlin native who wanted to be an elephant seal at age five, Oliver studied business specifically to understand how to change the systems driving the biodiversity crisis. After two years of pivots — from eco-anxiety coaching to corporate consulting — Wildya has found its focus helping the people already doing the work get more attention, more customers, and more resources. In this episode, Oliver and Tom discuss:The Jenga tower explanation of why biodiversity loss threatens everything we've built as a civilizationWhy Oliver chose business over marine biology — and whether he regrets itHow he built a community of tens of thousands on LinkedIn by being a messenger rather than a marketerThe business model behind Wildya, from free LinkedIn content to paid bootcamps and one-on-one consultingWhy the CSRD rollback and Trump's reelection killed his corporate pivot — and why the timing was just wrongWhat "rewilding your backyard" actually looks like, and the three steps any individual or business can take todayWhy biodiversity is a long-term business investment, not a cost — and how compounding returns apply to nature just as they do to capitalThe IUCN tool that shows you exactly what's threatening species within 50 kilometers of your homeThe butterfly that nested on his Berlin balcony and what it taught him about positive feedback loopsWhy personal branding isn't self-promotion — and why the messenger matters less than the messageResources mentioned:1% for the Planet directory: www.onepercentfortheplanet.orgIUCN Red List species threat tool: www.iucnredlist.orgWildya community: wildya.com

Today's conversation is one that touches every single one of us — whether we realize it or not. We're talking about trauma. Not just the big, obvious trauma. Not just what happened to you. But how it lives inside your body… and quietly shapes your health, stress levels, relationships, and even your sense of purpose.Joining us is Diana Bitting, co-founder and CEO of Catbird Health, an AI-powered trauma-informed care platform pioneering an entirely new model for healing. But Diana didn't start here. She spent decades struggling with a chronic inflammatory condition that no doctor could explain. Test after test came back “normal.” She was told it was stress. Or anxiety. Or maybe even “all in her head.”Sound familiar? After trying everything — diets, protocols, medications, functional medicine, and talk therapy — nothing created lasting relief. Until one conversation changed everything. When Diana began exploring trauma science and nervous system healing, her symptoms started to lift. Because here's what she discovered: Trauma doesn't just live in the brain. It lives in the body. And until the nervous system feels safe, true healing can't happen. In this episode, we explore:Why trauma is stored in the nervous systemThe link between inflammation, anxiety, insomnia, and unresolved traumaWhy talk therapy alone may not be enoughThe difference between cognitive healing and body-based healingHow personalized, trauma-informed care is changing the future of medicineWhy every single one of us can benefit from trauma healingThis conversation is grounded in science, but it's also deeply hopeful.Because healing trauma isn't just about resolving the past. It's about unlocking energy, clarity, connection, and purpose in the present. If you've ever felt like something was “off” in your body — even when everything looked fine on paper — this episode may connect some powerful dots. You are not broken. Your body has been protecting you. And healing is possible.MORE FROM DIANA BITTINGCheck out Catbird and start your person healing journey. Learn more about Diana.  Visit seekingcentercommunity.com for more with Robyn + Karen and many of the guides on Seeking Center: The Podcast. That experience eventually led her to build Theanna: a platform designed to support women tech founders from idea to launch. In this episode, we talk about:Why women are turning to entrepreneurship not out of ambition alone, but out of a desire for agencyThe realities of building a startup with four young kidsHow AI is completely changing what's possible for early-stage foundersWhy venture capital isn't the only — or even the most aligned — path for most entrepreneursThe difference between building your first business for money and your later ones for meaningHow motherhood sharpens clarity, decision-making, and boundariesWhat Nomiki is noticing about the next wave of women building techSustainable entrepreneurship vs. the unicorn mythology we've all absorbedIt's a conversation about choosing your own path, understanding your season, and building something that fits your actual life, not a version of life you're supposed to pretend you have.Connect with Nomiki:Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn: @nomikipetrollaTheanna: @theannaioConnect with Ashley:Website: https://www.ashleyblackington.comPodcast website: https://www.andbothpodcast.com/Dovetail® App: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/dovetail-app/id6744341822Instagram: @mydovetail.appLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ashleyblackington/
